The Elaion Conflict (Closed, Attention Northfrost)

Oil. It had become the Black Gold of Silver Industria, the soul of its over-growing industrial capabilities and population. With a seemingly endless supply of jobs, money, and houses, thousands immigrated to the nation every day - the poor looking for a new life and a good-paying job, the rich looking for a new investment and a secure home, and even the middle class looking for a quick ticket to a better life. Although the government claimed to be left wing, corporations had taken control of the nation and the politicians knew that if they even tried to enforce business regulations, they would never live to see another day. Yet now it all boiled down to one thing – the need for oil.

Silver Industria was a nation named, loved, and worshipped for it’s industrial capabilities. Although poor in natural resources, Silver Industria imported billions of dollars in raw materials every week to be manufactured and sold for over three times the price. There was one problem – if imports would shut down then industry would shut down and Silver Industria would collapse. Luckily, there was such a diverse world market that importation was impossible to shut down. However, oil wasn’t nearly as available as such things as wood and iron, and an oil embargo could cripple if not completely halt manufacturing. Although money was not scarce, no companies wished to waste the money for nuclear power plants or alternative energy sources, meaning oil supplied power plants, vehicles, homes, factories, and even the ships and airliners used to import supplies.

There was a quick solution – the mountain island chain of the Elaions. Located less than 200 miles away from the SI homeland, the Elaions were known to hold large oil reserves. Unfortunately, the nation of Northfrost owned them, another pro-industry nation but with a corrupt government that saw its people as cheap labor instead of human beings. Northfrost, located nearly 1,000 miles from the islands, horded the oil like a dragon with its gold, keeping a heavy defense on the island chain at all times. A much larger and more militaristic nation, Northfrost felt little threat from the recently formed island of corporations, but that would soon change. On March 3rd, the leaders of the seven main corporations met with the politburo to discuss war. Although no notes were taken of the meeting and all security cameras and voice recorders were purposely turned off, the result of the meeting was obvious. The next morning, 32 factories temporarily shut down, a taboo rarely seen in such a business-loving nation. They were to undergo quick renovations and machine transfers. Within two weeks, they were back up and running as productive as ever. However, instead of yachts and automobiles, they were pumping out jet fighters and war ships.

Note: Sorry for the long post. I just thought it would be good to get the entire storyline and reasons for the war sorted out. I plan to make a map soon of the conflict area soon (check your telegrams).

OOC: I'm tagging for interest. I have a similar war going but on a larger scale. May I recommend actually buying your products instead of just having them out of thin air. You can find weapons and vehicles at Geneticon Armed Forces Engineering (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=479386).

Northfrost Political Office
Ms.Sherry, after a thorough weapons search and identity check, entered the Northfrost Political Office, the seat of power in the nation. Inside sat the 18 ministers of the nation, each armed with expensive cigars and the most comfortable chairs ever invented. The Information Technoligy Minister had fallen asleep and was drooling on him, his cigar still burning on the floor. The Army Minister and Air Defense Minister were in a heated debate on whether they should research tactical missiles or strategic bombers. The rest of the men sat in silence, puffing on the cigars. They seemed oblivious to her presence.
"Uh, sirs, we have a issue with the Elaions." The Army and Air Defense Ministers stopped arguing and turned their attention to her. The Infotech minister slightly awoke, looked at the secretary, then fell back asleep.
The Naval Minister spoke up, "Well, what is it? Another damn strike?"
"No, sir. Rumors are spreading across the corporate-nation of Silver Industria that they plan on taking the islands for their oil resources."
The ministers broke into laughter. The Infotech Minister awoke at the sudden laughter and picked up his cigar. After depositing it back into his mouth, he straightened his suit and sat up in his chair as if he hadn't even closed his eyes.
"Woman, Silver Industria? That poor excuse for a nation is just a safe haven from taxes that corporations and poor people gather in hopes of actually making something useful." The Army Minister informed her, putting out his cigar and tossing it into a flower pot filled with weeds and a dead tropical plant.
"Actually, sir, they've switched production of a few dozen factories to pure military output. They've also increased their army size. They could strike the islands quick and could capture them before we're able to send reinforcements!" This time she was met with stern faces.
"Do you know who I am? I am the Army Minister of the Dominion of Northfrost. I could have you executed in the most painful ways imaginable. If you raise your voice to me again, I'll..." He was interupted by the Arms Manufacturing Minister:
"Sir, we could use this to our advantage. Silver Industria holds an entire island of factories, power plants, and plentiful labor. It could almost double our manufacturing output and provide us with a better base to protect our islands."
Silence fell across the room as the men thought. Ms.Sherry was too terrified to speak, remembering rumors of a man who had his tongue cut out for arguing with his manager. "Leave the room, woman," the Naval Minister ordered. She obeyed with a simple nod and left silently.
"This could work. But if we attack them, this could weaken our relations with our trade partners. I say we allow them a window of attack - we weaken the island chain's defenses. When they attack us, we unleash hell upon them and conquer them in a massive invasion."
"Even better - after the war we can enslave their people. We could say the Industrians are being punished for attacking us. We could release them after a decade or so, so those tree-humping human rights activists don't come here again."
The men sat there, the little wheels turning in their heads. This would work. Northfrost's first military conquest in decades.

OOC: Like I said before, Northfrost is a long distance northeast of the Elaion Islands. It's an island covered in mountains, with plains in the middle where the main cities are. It's not a huge island but pretty big (it has to house 450,000,000 people!) There are also small islands around it. (I should make a map)

The Military Factories continued pumping out the war machines of cold steel. Thanks to the donations of multiple corporations (in exchange for secret promises of oil fields after the war), multiple training bases began construction, equipped with the most up-to-date training equipment avaliable on the open market. Ammunition and small arms were arriving by the jet-load and soon the nation that had been defended by only a little over 1,000 soldiers was on it's way to having a fully-functional invasion force. The nation's worker pool, however, was starting to dry up. Already factories had been forced to purchase overly expensive machines to take the place of unfilled jobs and now, with nearly 8,000 good workers transferred to training camps, businesses were starting to suffer. A 4.9% drop in exports had arisen within the first month and immigration couldn't keep up with the steadily disappearing supply of workers.

September first was chosen as the date of the first test of SI's new recruits. A small force of 52 men, disguised as human rights extremists, was transported to Elaion at night on four-man underwater crafts. Carrying with only minimum equipment and nothing that could be traced back to Industria, the men snuck inside the fortifications and set up explosive charges on multiple buildings and guard towers. They then snuck out of the base the same way they had come and returned home in time for breakfast. The bait had been set. Now they would have to see if the slave empire would react.

The explosive charges erupted into massive fireballs, the sheer force shaking the island. Fire spread quickly, engulfing buildings, sheds, and even igniting an ammunition depot, that explosion causing more deaths than the actually charges. Extensive measures were taken to ensure the safety of the oil springs, many workers "sacrificing" themselves to prevent disaster. Immediately thinking it was workers revolting due to working conditions, a holocaust of the island's peasants was ordered the next day, with over 4,600 people killed in gas chambers and firing squads. That day, news stations across the land reported the terrorist attack, stating that anti-government terrorists had attached explosives to the homes of workers resulting in all the deaths. Ofcourse, the news stations were under government control meaning everyone believed terrorists had killed those people, not mass executions ordered by the government.

Over 5,000 additional Northfrost soldiers were transferred to Elaion, along with nearly 2,000 spread across the rest of the chain. In addition, two aircraft carriers and some escort ships were sent to patrol the islands. Although they did believe that activists had carried out the attack, it was odd for it to occur with such perfect timing as Silver Industria's militarization.

OOC: Yeah, my government's pretty oppressive. Imagine an extremely pro-business stalinist state ruled by paranoid ministers. Also, when are we planning on starting the war?

"Operation Blazing Star was a success, men." Meruss announced as he walked into the meeting room. The other 6 monopoly owners laughed and patted each other on the back as if they'd just won an award. Meruss dropped seven editions of the Industrial Times on the table and watched as they were hungrily seized. When they had all taken theirs, Meruss picked up the remaining copy and read out loud:

"Mysterious explosions rock the Island of Elaion. Anti-Government Terrorists believed to be the case."

The seven men, the richest and most powerful people in Silver Industria, were like little kids that had just found a bug. They passed around the newspaper, pointed out certain parts of the article, and even began passing around the original plans for the attack. Aerial photos of the damage were passed around multiple times, the men rejoicing at the sight of an island engulfed in smoke and flames. After a few minutes, they began to calm down and Meruss continued.

“I’ve talked to General Thompson about when the best time to attack is. He says next July, right after hurricane season. He says that if we plan our invasion right, they’ll have just repaired the oil wells and will have shipped the workers home.”

Janseen interrupted him, “What are our chances of success? Northfrost has quite an able military.” Meruss thought a bit before answering.

“It all depends on our initial strike. If we capture the islands and secure naval and air supremacy over the area, our chances are pretty good. If the initial strike fails, we will be forced onto the defensive.” The men fell silent as they pictured Silver Industria being turned into an island of slave labor under Northfrost’s rule. Their thoughts were interrupted as General Thompson, one of the four generals of the Silver Industria Defense Force, knocked on the door and then entered.

He spoke as he entered, “One of our E-3’s has been shot down by Northfrost’s defenses on one of the Elaion Islands. We believe it crashed in shallow water and has been recovered by the enemy. We believe the crew of six has survived.” The men were silent. It was Janseen that finally spoke up.

“It looks like the decision may be made for us. If they don’t return our men and the wreckage – perhaps we will need to put our foot down.”

OOC: Dang, that's a giant plane to survive being shot down!

The City of Northfrost
Smog hung over the city like a thick fog. Endless funnels of black smoke bellowed from the hundreds of factories. Dozens of snow plows road through the snow-covered streets, followed by a small army of children shovelling away their hopes of getting out of school. Two policemen stood on each side of the children, their clubs out in case one of the kids decided to slack off. Government-owned shops lined the streets, many filled with people trying to get their rations of clothes and food for the month.

Suddenly the public speakers, one located at the corner of every street, awoke with a horrible screech followed by a thunder-like voice:
"Attention citizens of Northfrost! The time for change has come! Today we captured the spies of the rich, stuck-up nation of Silver Industria. Instead of us declaring war, a poll will be taken to decide whether we should go to war. It is time for the people to choose: Go with the government's plan and take over those rich snobs, taking their riches for ourselves and increasing your monthly rations to over double your now; or go with those anti-government fools who want us to let the gold-horders fill up our nation with their spies and laugh at us. Our nation has fallen on hard times. We can fix this now! Never again will things be like this! Northfrost will be rich and powerful once again!"
With another screech, the speakers shut off, leaving the people to digest what they had just heard. Within hours, poll boxes appeared on every street. It was a rare thing for polls to be held but when they were, everyone voted. Little did they know that their votes were never counted. The government had already made up their mind. After the polls closed, the votes would be burned in a giant fire that would light up the night. It was known as the Democracy Flame, which they believed was lighted every time the government moved one step towards democracy. In realty, it was their democracy turning to ashes.

To the Empire of Silver Industria:
"We shall not returned your men or your aircraft. They shall be executed for acts of espionage against our nation. If more spies are found, we will consider it an act of war."

The Politburo had exploded into chaos. When the Top 7 announced that Silver Industria would be willing to use force if the pilots weren’t returned, politicians across the island gathered to challenge them. However, these seven men controlled nearly 65% of the nation’s money and over 80% of Silver Industria’s production and exports. That, combined with the 56.8 million people that worked for them that knew they would receive a serious raise to prevent unions springing up while part of the worker population was away. The SI Military mobilized and the strike force was dispatched just half an hour after the mobilization call.

Four AF-18 Hornets, traveling at subsonic speeds, zoomed over Elaion, attracting the heavy fire of Anti-Air Missiles. Doing a quick turn-around and slowing to accurate speeds, the Hornets split up and unleashed their deadly missiles. The missiles, AGM-65 Mavericks, locked onto their targets and, with deadly accuracy, eliminated all of them. Patrol towers, anti-air systems, radar systems – all eliminated within seconds. The attack jets performed another 180 and headed back, dropping their second load of missiles at important military buildings.

Sukhoi SU-27's zoomed off the Elaion air strips, ready to destroy those damned strike planes. Armed with the best equipment and upgrades in Northfrost, the planes chased down the Hornets and opened fire, flooding the sky with missiles and bullets. Using their great agility, the SU-27's made sure that none of the Industrian planes would have a chance to escape.
On the island, Northfrost soldiers worked quickly to repair the destroyed equipment. Anything repairable was fixed within minutes, with swarms of workers overflowing each piece of equipment. Tools were distributed to every avaliable soldier to make sure that the island would be back in perfect condition by the time the second attack would arrive.
Back in Northfrost City, workers were gathered from across the city and loaded into boats. Each was handed guns and some ammunition and told that the rich bastards in the south were trying to steal Northfrost's oil fields so we would be even poorer and they could mock us. The people were ready to fight, ready to kill those bastards.

“Big Dog, multiple enemy fighters spotted.”

“Engage enemy fighters. Our objective is to take out enemy air support so an amphibious group can arrive.”

The four Hornets kicked in their afterburners and spread out to avoid any accidents. One Hornet went down within seconds, an enemy missile engulfing it in flames. The wing leader launched two sidewinders at an enemy fighter then began ascending rapidly to take the fight onto his grounds. One missile missed its target but the second hit the enemy right in the exhaust, ending his short career. The other two Hornets, each having only two sidewinders diverged – each to his own preferred altitude.

Meanwhile, SI soldiers said their farewells to their families. Jets loaded neatly onto the carriers, ammunition and supply ships were filled to the brim, and lastly the amphibious forces loaded onto the transports. Two C-17 Globemaster III’s were loaded with artillery, and one roofless ship of battle-ready PzH 2000’s. As they were about to depart, they witnessed six F-16 Falcons zoom overhead.

“I thought the strike jets demolished the island’s defenses. What the hell are they sending those guys in for?” General Thompson asked an Air Control officer.

“Well, I guess we sort of… forgot about the airfields.”

“What?!?” Thompson shouted. He was known for his short temper and the Air Control officer was ready to run. “We’re about to leave for that island! You guys had one job and you couldn’t even do it? Now we’re going to get blown out of the water before we even see the island!” The general stomped up the stairs and onto the carrier. He met Carrier Group Officer Miercoles on his way to his office.

“Sir, are we delaying departure?” Miercoles asked quietly, noting Thompson’s red face and obvious mood.

“Ah, screw the air force. Let’s set sail. Make sure air defenses are ready. Those AF retards can’t do a single thing right!”

OOC: How many fighters do you have in the battle right now?

Between 15 and 20. More are on their way.

Repairs on the base continued quickly. The boat of soldiers was well on it's way, speeding towards Elaion. Surrounding it was a group of battleships and destroyers, along with two carriers loaded with fighter planes. Submarines lead the group, ready to destroy any ships that got in their path.
The SU-27's took over the battle, destroying another Industrian plane and swarming around the others. The pilot of the only Northfrost plane to be shot down had survived and was swimming to shore. Two soldiers in a speed boat sped out and rescued him and took him to safety. By now almost half the anti-air systems were back online and were ready to destroy any air reinforcements the enemy would send.

Wing Leader Joez witnessed the explosion of yet another friend out of the corner of his eye. He had no time to watch, with three enemy fighters trailing him. Joez lead them down towards the Elaion Mountains and swerved through the dangerous cliffs, kicking in his afterburners when he could. His enemies were keeping up, however, and gaining on him. Finally he decided that out-maneuvering these enemies wouldn’t work, and the dogfight was clearly in favor of the fighters. He began to climb in altitude, hoping to abuse his jet’s much higher ceiling.

The F-16’s arrived less than 20 minutes after leaving the home island, saving their comrade’s lives. The Falcons were much more capable of taking on the enemy fighters, and unleashed their wrath instantly. Their Vulcan Gatlings tore through the enemy aircrafts, accompanied by sidewinders and their much better maneuverability. One by one the enemy jets fell, allowing the Hornets to return home safely.

The Cruiser Battle Group continued it’s rapid approach to Elaion. General Thompson nervously sat in the radar room, scanning the screens for any trace of enemy vessels or aircraft. Once he got to land he’d be fine. At sea, he felt like a sitting duck.

The SU-27s, after losing 8 planes, flee from the battle as fast as they can. They land on the approaching carriers to refuel and get fresh pilots. On the island the repairs are nearly complete. The S-75 anti-air system was turned on and missiles filled the sky. Also, repairs on the missile sites were nearly complete and workers began preparing scud missiles. Artillery and anti-ship guns began setting up on the coast to destroy any Industrian forces that tried to land.

Sorry, but a few complaints:
OOC1: How are you repairing all this stuff, especially this fast? Not too many things survive a direct missile hit, especially the anti-air systems which were specifically targetted to ensure they were destroyed.

OOC2: How is all this stuff just suddenly appearing on the island? At first you just had walls, guard towers, oil wells, and a few military buildings. I took for granted that you had air fields, radar systems, and even anti-air systems due the island chain's distance from your home island. But now you have SCUD missiles, a giant stockpile of surface-to-air missiles, heavy artillery, and even anti-ship artillery!

OOC3: How is your fleet almost to the islands? You are thousands of miles away. If my supersonic jets just reached Elaion from 200 miles away, your giant, fully-loaded ships aren't going to get there that fast.

IC:

Seeing the enemy aerial force flee, the Falcons turned their attention to the island's reappearing defenses. The fighters performed a steep climb then split up. The explosions of the V-750's took out one Falcon and damaged another, sending him home early for quick repairs (S-75’s aren’t the most accurate anti-air systems). The remaining four dived down and released their Maverick Air-to-Ground Missiles (each has 2 along with his six sidewinders). The heats of the anti-air systems, having just fired a barrage of missiles, were easy targets for the infrared-guided missiles that took out their targets with ease. The fighters then sped off before the remaining S-75’s could launch another attack.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to cheat. I'll try to be a little more realistic.

Northfrost City
"We've lost how many jets already?" The Northfrost Air Force Minister screamed as one of his secretaries gave him an updated battle report. The secretary nearly dropped the papers in frieght.
"Well, sir, they say that they almost had the attack force destroyed when the enemy reinforcements arrived. The enemy planes were better equipped and were fresh, while our planes were outdated and tired from battle." The secretary responded, trying to sound like she knew what was going on. Really, all she knew were numbers and a three sentence summary of the air battle. The Naval Minister stepped in.
"Don't worry, I can take care of this. I have two carriers full of planes on their way to the islands. Destroying all of those are impossible. We also have ships full of workers and soldiers to repair the S-75s and defend the island from invasion. Those corporate losers can't do a thing to us."
"Our military is three times the size of theirs. Our only problem is getting that military to an island two thousand miles away!"

OOC: Let’s just skip ahead around an hour. It would be pretty boring just describing the ships on their way to the islands.

IC:
The Falcons, refueled, re-supplied, and repaired, arrived back to the skies over Elaion, joined by two Falcons from the carrier. Yet another F-16 went down to anti-aircraft fire but the 6 remaining fighters took out multiple targets before returning to the carrier. The Hornets, along with two Falcons, returned to the island to try to weaken the artillery positions, especially targeting anti-ship artillery.

Meanwhile, the Carrier Battle Group finally came into view of the island.

Btw, here’s a summary of my two carriers’ aircrafts (just incase you think these jets are appearing out of nowhere):
4 Falcons (8 counting the rescue attack force)
2 Hornets (from the initial attack force)
2 Blackhawks
2 Raptors

The island's anti-air systems had been demolished. Although they had taken out two enemy jets, the S-75s had proved useless to Elaion and the entire Northfrost defenses. However, they still had plenty of artillery and most of their anti-ship artillery to stop the invaders from landing. As the ships came into view, Northfrost soldiers lined the beaches and dug themselves in. Scrap metal from the anti-air systems was used to build small shields for the artillery to give added protection.

The Northfrost Fleet, only half-way there, recieved news of the disaster. They sped up to full speed and prepared the fighters to depart as soon as possible. The enemy may beat them to the island, but when they arrived, the Industrian force would be crushed.

The Carrier Battle Group approached the islands; the main attack ships took the lead, with the carriers and transports converging in the middle and auxiliary ships in the rear. To start the attack, almost every jet on the carriers took off to destroy targets across the island and maintain air superiority. The two Blackhawks split up to find and rescue any surviving SI pilots that had been shot down. The Missile Cruisers unleashed their Tomahawk missiles at major buildings and large artillery, followed by submarines to secure sea superiority. The transports approached the heavily guarded buildings as the soldiers nervously prepared for what could be their final mission.

The explosion of the Tomahawk Missiles marked the beginning of the battle. P-800 Anti-Ship Missiles zoomed in the sky then exploded as they crashed into the enemy transports. Three hit a carrier, two hit a transport, and the last hit a Missile Cruiser. Sprut-SD 2S25 Artilleries opened fire on the approaching ships, raining down fire and destruction. Soldiers on the shore opened fire on the ships, unloading round after round onto the enemies.

Workers scavenged through the destroyed and burning buildings to find any materials and ammunition that hadn't been destroyed. As they opened the garage door on one building, they were happy to see 6 T-90 tanks, lined up along the sides of the buildings. The helicopter in the middle had been destroyed, but the tanks didn't have a scratch. Soldiers fueled and prepared the tanks then moved them into position to join the artillery.

Two transport ships exploded under the impacts of the anti-ship missiles. RIM-116 missiles zoomed from the carriers, taking out multiple missiles in the air. One missile got past the anti-missile defenses and smashed into the base of the control, erupting into a fireball and instantly killing eight personnel. The Missile Cruisers unloaded their ESSM’s, easily taking down all approaching missiles. The four remaining transport ships quickly moved to surround missile cruisers for anti-missile defense, realizing that it could be a dangerous journey to the shore.

One injured SI pilot was recovered by a Blackhawk but all others were assumed dead after a 15-minute search. SI aircraft continued their bombardment of the island’s defenses, periodically stopping to rearm and locate new targets.

Northfrost soldiers rushed across the beaches preparing for the landing. Artillery began to be rolled up the beach but the sand slowed them down and made it hard to get the machines anywhere. All the air attacks had left the island's defenses practically destroyed besides some artillery and basic infantry. Those six tanks were Elaion's only hope. Workers were assembled to the beaches carrying large pieces of metal, most just scraps off destroyed equipment, as shields. They knelt in front of the soldiers, acting as practically human shields for the small army. One worker, watching the enemy fleet approach, decided to try and flee. She made it four steps before falling dead, a bullet-hole through the back of her head. Cowards were not welcome in the Dominion of Northfrost.

The SI Fleet slowed to a halt and allowed the transports to move ahead. Industrian jets rained hell upon the beach defenders, allowing perfect cover for the transports to advance untouched. Artillery sitting on the roofless ships showered fiery death upon the shore as well, the greeting of the SI amphibious invasion.

Back on the home island, the politburo was excited about the news. Air superiority, disabled anti-air systems, severely weakened island defenses… it all sounded too good to be true. Perhaps Silver Industria’s first war wouldn’t be a horrible defeat like many had predicted.
Northfrost

As the Industrian transports opened their gates and the soldiers poured ashore, the remaining Northfrost Artillery opened fire, pouring artillery shell after artillery shell into the masses of men. Northfrost soldiers emptied their machine gun clips into the piles of men but were outnumbered and were forced to retreat. SI bullets tore apart the defenders as they fled and artillery had to be left behind, too heavy to be evacuated this quickly. The Northfrost soldiers took up refuge in a hospital, one of the few buildings not to be hit by bombers, and turned it into a fortress, posting dozens of guards and snipers on the roof as well as at every window and balcony.

The Northfrost Fleet recieved a message from Captain Hemmel of the Elaion Defense Army:
"Admiral, it's too late to save us! Those bastards have destroyed our equipment, taken our artillery, and have us trapped inside a hospital! Save yourselves! They're too strong!"
"General, get yourself under control! We'll be there in an hour, you'll just have to hold out until then. We have plenty of air support and missiles to destroy the enemy force and launch an invasion of the Industrian homeland. We just need you to hold on a little longer."
Admiral Herkov turned off the radio and returned to his office. His second-in-command, who had been listening, followed him in.
"Sir, it sounds bad. Perhaps we should go back and gather more forces."
Herkov was angry at his subordinant's faithlessness:
"Elaion isn't our target. We'll capture the Industrian Homeland, then crush those scumbags that have taken over our islands. With all the SI military on Elaion, they won't even expect an attack. Silver Industria is as good as ours."

“Papa Carrier, requesting air strike.”

“Strike force ready, please key in target”

General Thompson pulled out his battle planner and zoomed in on Elaion. He found the hospital, clicked on it, and read off its GPS coordinates.

“Coordinates confirmed. Strike force dispatched.”

Thompson ordered his men to clear the area. An eerie silence fell over the island. Suddenly jets appeared in the sky followed by lightning-fast missiles. Multiple missiles hit the hospital, turning it into a giant fireball. The strike force continued attacking until the entire building had been reduced to a single floor of flaming rubble. They then vanished as quick as they had come, leaving the soldiers watching the ruins for any movement. Four soldiers advanced on the building, looked around (not getting too close due to the flames) then returned to the men with a giant smile. The soldiers let out a massive cheer, signaling the end of the battle.

Thompson called HQ back in Silver Industria, “Elaion secured. Enemy forces eliminated. Will commence searching for survivors after I get these party boys under control.”

The commander on the other line laughed. “Good. We’ll send in reinforcements to secure the island. Northfrost may attempt a counter-offensive. Be prepared.”

“Don’t give me orders, Donald. I know perfectly well what I need to do. I just figured these men should have a little celebration for this nation’s first victory.”

The Northfrost Fleet swung way north of the Elaion Islands and then headed towards Silver Industria from the north. Planes were fueled and cannons were loaded. They would deal a final, devastating blow to Silver Industria right now.

The Northfrost Ministers heard of the loss of Elaion and were quickly losing hope. They did not know about the Northfrost Fleet approaching Silver Industria or the quick and surprising victory Northfrost would have while the Industrian soldiers were off partying on Elaion. Soon they would all be the slaves of the Northfrost Empire. Soon Silver Industria would cease to exist.

As the soldiers partied and scavenged the island ruins, they discovered a strange stairwell that led underground. Within a dark room sat an Industrian on a wooden chair, tied up with a gag in his mouth. He was covered in bruises and cuts from being beaten, but besides that he was fine. This was one of the pilots from the spy plane that had been shot down! The man, Johm Ecklezky, was freed, handed a beer, and forced to tell every second of his captivity as a prisoner of war. He explained the deaths of the other pilots, the interrogations by Northfrost soldiers, and being locked in a dark room while he heard the entire island rattle in war. The news spread back to the SI home island quickly, and reporters were interviewing him live within hours. He had stumbled into his 15 minutes of fame and had accidentally started the war that had bought Silver Industria a new island chain.

The Battle for Silver Industria Begins

Northfrost SU-27s zoomed towards the island nation, ready for revenge against these monsters. MIG-31s followed them, arranging into battle formation, and finally by Yak-38s. This giant air fleet was followed by 12 TU-22s, armed with napalm and MK-77 bombs. They would demolish the entire island as payback then finish it off with a land invasion.

The fighter array of nearly 80 planes cleared a path for the bombers then went into a wide patrol as the TU-22s dropped their bombs of fire, set the city below them ablaze.

Aboard the leader carrier, Admiral Herkov listened to the reports with extreme happiness.
"Admiral, the fire is spreading rapidly. At this rate, the entire island will be a giant fireball in hours!"
The admiral laughed with joy.
"Good, good. Don't get sloppy and make sure not a single bomber goes down. We've got plenty of bombs ready for you to pick up as soon as you finish with this load."
"Yes, sir. This island will be ours by nightfall."

OOC: Wow, about 100 of my jets defending an entire island against your air armada  Btw, where'd you get all of those aircraft? You had to have had twenty carriers in that fleet!

IC:

F-14 Tomcats had only been purchased because the Air Force Import Budget had some left over cash but not enough to order another wing of F-18's. Now these fighters, purchased only as an after-thought, were one of the first groups in the air to stop the hell the surprise attack had unleashed upon the island. They unloaded their modified AIM-54 Phoenixes, each locking onto a different enemy fighter with six missiles per Tomcat. After that barrage, the F-14’s slowed to combat speeds and put to use their untested 20mm Vulcans.

Meanwhile, FA-18’s were prepared and launched, having not been ready for such an attack. After nearly 15 minutes of waiting, the Super Hornets erupted off the runway, heading straight towards the bombers.

The North-Central District of the island was ablaze, the incendiary bombs making quick work of the crowded metropolis. Thousands fled the district, entire subdivisions being engulfed in a massive wildfire. Fire departments from as far away as the Capital District were dispatched to combat the fire but were fighting a losing battle. The police chiefs met and came to the conclusion that the fire would have to be fought from the air, yet they weren’t risking losing good pilots and expensive planes against enemy aircraft. A state of emergency was declared for the northern half of the island and many of the island’s major businessmen were transported to the South-West District in fear of enemy forces. The Politburo, however, announced that they would not budge from the Capital District and expressed great confidence in the abilities of the island’s defenses.

Aerial photos of the destruction had impressed Admiral Herkov. At this rate, the entire island would be cleared for Northfrost's labor camps without sending in a single bulldozer. Yet now was not the time to gock at the demolition. Some Industrian fools were trying to shoot down his precious planes and he wouldn't allow it. All aerial units were ordered to split into pairs so that they could protect each other. A giant circle around the bombing ground was arranging, with the fighters circling the demolition group so that not a single bomber would go down.

The suprise attack had startled the air force and the Pheonixes had left over 40 fighters destroyed. However, many had been able to dodge the missiles and sped towards the attackers to encircle and destroy them. The SU-27s once again used their agility to out manuever the enemy planes. 4 went down within minutes with many more promised to follow.

OOC:
Quick Summary of my forces on my island
2 Nuclear-Powered Submarines (WSIS Conquer and WSIS Commander)
5 Type-45 Destroyers
2 Guided Missile Cruisers
14 F-14 Tomcats
25 FA-18 Super Hornets

I think I've already listed my forces at Elaion (yeah, my military's pretty small).

The FA-18’s, now ready for action, zoomed into battle. They zoned in on the enemy group attacking the F-14’s and unleashed their first deadly rain of AIM-120’s, bringing down over 40 enemy aircraft (they have over 90% accuracy) and clearing the way for the retreat of the Tomcats. Keeping within medium range but avoiding a close-quarters battle, the 25 Super Hornets made good use of their remaining 4 AIM-120’s each, dropping their enemies one-by-one.

On the ground, fire departments across the Northern Districts were beginning to panic. The fires were out of control and causing multiple casualties for ground crews. In addition, no air support could be provided for the firemen due to the enemy aircraft and no one was willing to let their homes and offices be bulldozed to prevent the spreading of the blaze. Mr. Meruss, the largest land-owner in the North-Central District and one of the wealthiest men in Silver Industria, finally ordered for the demolition crews to go to work. He agreed to pay compensation to the building owners and already owned a large portion of the buildings. This would be a major financial crisis for him, but he was willing to do it if that meant saving the island from turning into a giant fireball.

At sea, the only two SI submarines built were ordered to strike. Much more were planned to have been built, but time and budget restrictions had reduced the expected fleet of 15 submarines to two. It was up to these two ships, the WSIS (War Ship of Silver Industria) Conquer and the WSIS Commander, to keep the enemy fleets busy until reinforcements could arrive. Both were dispatched to go directly for the enemy carriers, hopefully crippling the attacking aerial power and beginning a war of attrition against the Northfrost invaders. Failure wasn’t an option – it could mean the end of Silver Industria.

On Elaion, General Thompson was furious. How had they not detected the enemy fleet approaching the home island? Not only that, but now they needed the force that had just given sweat and blood for these islands to abandon them and go off to another battle. He decided to refuse their demands and, after multiple threats to fire and exile him, he finally decided to send a missile cruiser and two auxiliary ships, having decided that these crews hadn’t really fought yet and it was time they earned their paychecks. The three ships set sail for Silver Industria, first to refuel and resupply, then to launch an attack on the enemy fleet.

58 more fighters went down, finishing off the last of SU-75s and Yak-38s. However, 14 more MIG-31s still remained and were determined to destroy the Industrian Air Force. The MIGs performed and pincer movement and took down multiple Superhornets then, like performing an airshow, flew up, did a back flip, then charged straight into the enemy planes. Two smashed into enemy planes, the pilots ejecting right before impact, and the rest unleashed their machine guns, taking down 8 enemy aircraft.

The bombers continued the rain of fire, turning the city into one giant flame. Under the Admiral's orders, they began dropping napalm on fireman crews to stop the firefighting crews. They may lose the battle, but Silver Industria would lose it's homeland.

The kamikaze attacks stunned the SI pilots. The Super Hornets quickly maneuvered to escape close-range combat and return the fight to their battlefield. Their Gatling guns unleashed their fury upon the enemy jets, taking down two and (now with much more even numbers) moved in for the kill. Meanwhile, the F-14’s, now refueled and rearmed, flew straight towards the bomber group. It was time to get revenge for the havoc they were causing.

The war against the wildfire was a hopeless fight for firefighters. It had now spread to the North-East District and, on the other side, was approaching the North-West District. Fire crews were seriously considering taking the risk of sending anti-fire planes. Even worse, the intense heat and collapsing buildings had practically destroyed the North-Central District’s water system, causing fire crews to have to import water from nearby districts. A massive flood of fire refugees was quickly crowding the streets of the Northern Districts, making transportation for supplies to fight the fire even more difficult.

A much different story was playing out under the waves off the northern coast of the island. The WSIS Conquer and WSIS Commander moved in for the kill, keeping full communications silence and reducing radar power to help avoid detection. Closing in on a Northfrost Carrier, the Conquer unleashed two homing torpedoes then turned to flee, not bothering for kill confirmation. The Commander, however, was much more aggressive and stormed straight into the center of the combat fleet, unleashing a missile at a cruiser before turning and unleashing two at a destroyer.

A terrible explosion rattled one of the Northfrost Carriers, followed just seconds later by another. Alarms sounded in every room of the ship and the crew began to panic as water poured in too fast to stop it. On top of that, fire had erupted where the water hadn't already flooded and was slowly moving towards the ammunition room. Before even the first lifeboat had hit the water, the ammunition room exploded, ripping a huge chunk out of the side of the carrier. The ship was doomed and now almost 1/4 of it's crew was dead.

The next targets, a cruiser and a destroyer, fared much better. The cruiser took the direct hit but it's pumps allowed the crew enough time to patch the hole and put out the fires. The destroyer lost an engine to the torpedo, causing a large fire in the back of the ship, but the second torpedo missed completely, zooming out in the open ocean. Already seeing the explosions, they knew it was a submarine and began using depth charges. They were answered with a massive underwater explosion, sending massive tidal waves in all directions. The destroyer was nearly knocked over by the waves and two men were knocked off board. Geigar counters quickly revealed the cause of the explosion - the submarine had been nuclear powered and the depth charges had caused a nuclear explosion in the reactor. The fleet was quickly ordered to leave the area.

The air battle had taken a turn for the worst and Northfrost fighters were ordered to retreat. 5 more fighters went down before the planes escaped, heading straight for the carrier. The enemy F-14s took out four bombers causing massive, firey explosions in the sky. The remaining bombers, having recieved word of the fleet's retreat, began fleeing, with three bombers 'volunteering' to stay behind and hold off the enemy fighters. The Northfrost planes all landed on the fleeing carriers but were fueled and supplied incase they would have to defend thier retreat. Admiral Herkov sent in his announcement of retreat to the Silver Industrian Politburo, and announced his failure to the Northfrost Naval Minister, quickly realizing that this could mean the end of his life.

The Northfrost Ministers met and finally came to a conclusion. Conquering Silver Industria would be extremely costly and wasn't worth the cost. Northfrost couldn't be conquered by Industrian forces, no matter how hard they would try. The Elaion Islands would be the only point of conflict, which the SI held distance advantage but Northfrost had military and resource advantage. This could end up as a bloody stalemate which could ruin both nations. Finally a list of demands for peace was sent to the Industrian Politburo:
-A 5-year Peace Treaty
-The Northern Half of the Elaion Islands for Northfrost(Elaion will be split)

OOC: Let's end this. Like my ministers said, this is just a giant stalemate. Trying to attack Northfrost would be suicidal for your troops (our army is like three times the size of yours).

The SI pilots could hardly believe what had happened. They had destroyed an enemy over 10 times their size with only a few loses. However, their celebration was cut short as the manned civilian planes and any available bombers to begin dropping water and flame retardant upon the blazing North-Central District. Civilians in the area began working together to combat the flames themselves, helping out the firemen greatly.

The Politburo rejoiced when they heard of the attacking fleet’s retreat and was even more excited when they received Northfrost’s Terms of Peace. Although they wouldn’t get to keep the entire island chain, the politicians felt it best to accept the terms and saved as many lives as possible.

To: The Nation of Northfrost

We accept the terms and will begin evacuating northern Elaion immediately. Perhaps a long-lasting peace between our nations can be established in the future.

The retreating Northfrost Fleet was ordered to change it's path to North Elaion. Shipments of soldiers and workers were immediately set out from the homeland to the reclaimed islands. Plans were already being drawn up for the construction of the Elaion Wall, a giant brick wall covered in barbed wire, motion-sensing machine guns, watch towers, security cameras, and pretty much any other defense avaliable. The North Elaion Islands would become a giant military base. These remaining islands that had not been stolen would not be lost. In fact, soon the rest of the islands would be Northfrost's. All they could do now was build up their forces and wait.

OOC: It's time for some Berlin Wall stuff. Don't expect this to be over just yet.

Celebrations erupt across Silver Industria in celebration of the young nation’s first victory. A national holiday (a rare event due to the shut down of all businesses) is declared although parties continue for weeks. Statues and memorials sprung up across the nation and veterans became national heroes. The jets that defended the island against the horde of invaders were sold off for billions of dollars, with half of the profits going directly to the pilots and maintenance crew that flew it during the war. In addition, the new Elaion Oil Company was established, with all veterans and the families of deceased veterans receiving shares. As soon as all of the celebrations died down, reconstruction of the North-Central District began. A giant monumental tower was constructed in the center of the district, with images of firemen etched into it and the names of all the fire fighters that died fighting the blaze inscribed at the base. Silver Industria seemed to be heading towards a bright and prosperous future.

However, the military and government had a much different prediction. The large garrison of Northfrost soldiers on the islands and the construction of the Elaion Wall was worrying the Politburo. Military production, although scaled down, continued to pump out tanks, jets, and ships. Recruiting had received a much-needed boost due to the explosion of patriotism, nearly doubling the size of the military. New bases were constructed on Elaion and the southern islands. A new defense network was established on the home island, hoping to prevent another surprise attack or any attack at all on Silver Industria. The build up of forces went relatively unchecked by the media, with small articles popping up every once in a while but no one really bothering to care much. For all the people knew, Northfrost had been whipped and Silver Industria could do it again if those bastards tried anything again. Over 10,000 civilians had died in the blaze and anti-Northfrost feelings were at an all-time high. The media began reporting on the harsh conditions of the “slave state” and many called for a liberation of the Northfrost people. However, the government wasn’t prepared for another war and they knew the military wasn’t either. They hadn’t been prepared for the last war but they would make sure all forces were ready for this one.

OOC:
This time, let’s use only units bought from storefronts. That will make numbers and force sizes much easier to decide. That last war was pretty interesting, though.

OOC: We need more land and maybe another nation or two. Just us two and some islands in the middle is going to end up as a constant stalemate.

IC:
Larger barracks and better fortifications were built across northern Elaion and the northern isles. A minimum quota of 200,000 soldiers was implemented on the islands and a full military command outpost was set up. Airbases were built in northern Elaion and the northernmost island of the chain, each with a minimum of 45 fighters and 5 bombers at all times. Construction on a large naval base in north Elaion also began, although the size and cost of the project meant it could be another 10 months before it would be completed.

The Air Minister argued with the other ministers for hours in the Northfrost Government. He wanted up-to-date aircraft with modern weapons and equipment and highly-trained pilots. However, the other ministers wanted to focus more on the naval and ground budgets. Finally they agreed to exchange quality or quantity - the Air Force would be tripled in size but would only have a small budget increase. New schools would be built on both North Elaion and Northfrost to accomodate the large flood of recruits. The naval minister, who the air force's budget increase had been taken from, was promised more construction factories in compensation, and the army budget remained the same, although the draft would be increased to all men ages 18 to 30. To find nurses and office aids, a small draft of 21 to 24 year old women would be put into effect as well. To keep a worker shortage from arising, the minimum working age was lowered from 15 to 13, and children ages 10 to 12 were allowed to take jobs as janitors and other easy jobs.
