Civil War breaks out

The Nation is collapsing. Just as soon as it came, it seems it will be gone. The Workers Party has taken to the streets of Paradise City, attempting to overthrow the government. The Imperial Army is too small to be effective in stopping the rebels. The Chancellor is locked away in his palace on the Royal Island in the center of the city. Around the island, the rest of the city is burning.

From Chancellor Lucius Blackhelm,
To all nations, we request aid in crushing this rebellion. My army is far to small to be able to hold back this rebellion. There is only 25,000 men in my army. There is almost a half million rebels attempting to storm into my palace. We can only hold them off for so long. Please, anyone who can send help do so now

OOC: what are the workers parties goals/beliefs or whatever; are they just communists or what?

The House of Hasek could not sit by and watch such actions affect a nation of similiar ideology and organization. King Alexander I also hated socialism, which say this workers party as nothing more than agitated socialists. However he decided to leave this ball in the court of his Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Wesley sat down with his cabinet as they tossed around concepts and ideas for intervention and how to provide aid, also what exactly could they provide? Once a decision had been reached, Prime Minister Wesley implemented it with haste. He first contacted Security-General Donald Ross, head of the Ark 9 which served as the chief Loudainian Intelligence and Operations organization. Ross assured Wesley that something could be implemented and would be. With his orders handed to him in the form of a Top Secret PM Executive Order, Ross set about the form of aid that Loudain would provide.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Considering the state of Loudain's military in both size and technology, they had long decided to focus on Special Operations and BlackOps tactics to compensate for their lack of size and revamped defenses. This proved effective for the nation, and showed in the way that Ark 9 completed operations successfully.

While Loudain could not send a large army, they could offer what they had. And they did just that with a commercial cargo ship had its route pass nearby the nation. From that cargo ship, an Ark 9 team deployed and made its way toward the shore. Intel had gathered that the Workers Party had indeed gained strength and support, but they not moved strategically. The rebels were now locked in the city and surrounding the Royal Island. They had essentially set themselves up for an ambush. But Ark 9 was not there to set up such a move. They were there to use subterfuge.

Once the team reached the shore, they quickly moved inland via night and established and HQ/Rally Point. The team did not have the ability to have communications with Loudain so they realised they were on their own until the mission was accomplished or they all failed. The team then went about using gathered Intel to adapt to the culture via image mainly. The goal now was to destroy the movement from within or at least fracture it into oppositional factions.

ooc:yea, the Workers Party is pretty much a super Communist group. They are mainly armed with ak-47's and MP-5's. They also have a few T-55's scattered around the city, and may have an Mi-24 helicopter.

A TV news anchor on reports "The Workers Party is now basically in control of the city. There are a few small pockets of Imperial resistance scattered around, but the main force of the army is on Paradise Island, defending the imperial palace. As you can see, the city is burning as the Workers Party has started torching everything that they see as being even remotely capitalist. They have nearly 10,000 men surrounding the ports, were a small pocket of about 1,500 men have been holed up. It is only a matter of time before these men to are overrun, like so many of their countrymen already have been. For the Imperial News Network, this is Julia Rubyhilt, signing out"

The delapidated truck rumbled down the dirt road in silence, with another one following it. Behind the two trucks were two old sedans. The four vehicles left trails of dust in the air while they motored ahead towards their destination. Inside the two trucks were a few men dressed in casual clothing, resembling members of The Workers Party. The two sedans held men as well, all looking casual.

With the Imperial Army in obvious shambles as far as organization went, Ark 9 felt that they needed to shut down the resistance movement by attacking the concept of "helping the people."

Step one in doing this was being carried out as they came within sight of a power plant up ahead. The lead truck had two men in the bed of the truck with SMG's armed and ready but concealed. Watchful eyes monitored the gatehouse that was coming up fast, checking to see if anyone was around. If it was still in control of Loyalists...well then unfortunate for them that they must die for the greater good.

They were on the outskirts of Paradise City, and sure enough...the Workers Party had taken over the Power Plant. But even though the Imperial Army was unorganized, the Workers Party was the same. Any large revolution movement was based on 95% charisma and fervor with about 5% planning and strategy tossed in. It was obvious that the Power Plant was being held merely as a piece of infrastructure to claim.

The convoy slowed down as a man with an Ak-47 waved his hand for them to stop.

"Business here?"

"Sent from the city to reinforce security here. We think there might be a plot by a faction of the Party to destroy this structure and allow foreign forces to invade the city."

Just that tidbit should be enough to get the rumor mill flowing. With a few more minutes of chit-chat, the convoy was allowed in and they moved onward. Every member of the Ark 9 team felt a bit of anxiousness and nervousness. They were in the Lion's Den so to speak. The four vehicles all parked and the entire team moved out with swiftness towards their destination inside the power plant. Initial observations were that the Power Plant had very minimal staffing...just enough to keep the place running and say they were there.

Now time was of the essence. The team carried four duffel bags and with one member having experience as an engineer, they relied on rough know-how and common design patterns to find where they could cause the most chaos. The group split into three teams. The first team moved towards the command and control center, the second team went for the transformers, and the third team went to gather as much intel as they could.

The first team moved down some confusing hallways before reaching the command center, and upon arrival a gunfight broke out with some armed revolutionaries. The quick bursts of gunfire echoed through the halls before the threat was eliminated and they went about setting up explosives. The second team found no resistance or troubles and also went about setting up explosives. Meanwhile the third team went about collecting information which amounted to blueprints, maps, and electrical engineering data. Once all three teams had finished what they needed to do, they hightailed it back to the parked convoy. By now the security at the plant had been alerted and random gunfire sent rounds bouncing off the cars and ground. The vehicles spun out and took off to get out of dodge, running into the gatehouse with a team member sustaining a wound. And as they vehicles left a trail of dust in the opposite direction, flames and explosions filled the Power Plant.

The power would go out in Paradise City tonight, dampening both spirits and attempts to communicate and organized.

Next step? A radio station.

Momentarily, the power in the Imperial Palace went out, but the backup generators soon kicked in, and a strange gray light was produced from the lights. Chancellor Blackhelm looked out his window towards the city, and saw the power to all of Paradise City go down. All that lit the streets now was the fire from buildings and vehicles.

Meanwhile, the commander of The Workers Party armed wing, Marcus Steelblade, had watched as the power plant exploded into flames. He ordered about 20 men and an old T-55 tank to go out and cut off the intruders on their way back to the city.

OOC: I've placed my soldiers and tanks under your command. Against the rebellion. The soldiers have ZA-1 assualt rifles and ZT-1 AT weapons, and ZP-1 pistols. My tanks are XM-1s. They have a 120mm ETC main gun, two coaxial .50 caliber machine guns, two .50 calibers on the roof, two AT missile launchers, two SAM launchers, and four Florernst Turrets. Those shoot big bullets using a mini MLA at missiles and shells.

"Hmmmm... an interesting situation indeed" muttered High Tyrant Caldmoore as yet another country was added to the list of previously unknown empires. Not a day passed in the world where new continents, people and places were being uncovered. New places to explore, and new places for the Reich to prepare to visit in the years to come, But that, that is in the future... for now Caldmoore thought to himself as he was given a printout of the situation in the new country.

"So, a communist uprising is it?" he muttered as he looked over the details... "poorly equipped, light infantry force, limited elderly armour and equally old aerial support"... he continued to flip through the files, reports of suspected adversity from some form of resistance, whether it be internal or external unknown, and a large presence of another, previously unknown force that was equipped with phenomenally advanced armoured vehicles.

"Hmmm..." Caldmoore stopped for a moment, his aides caught unawares behind him almost bumping into the powerful Tyrant, "my my, that IS interesting... seems here our seismologists suspect we'd find large mineral and petroleum reserves beneath their eastern expanses... might be about time for our military to show some panache and provide a stabilising presence" he murmured to himself.

He turned to face his aides, "gentlemen, inform the council of war that we are to prepare our forces for assistance of this empire... it's about time the Reich made a name for itself to the east as it is"

...

A few days later

http://ps2media.ign.com/ps2/image/article/601/601751/killzone-2-20050405045925634.jpg

"My people, my fellow Reichans. As you may have heard our grand forces begin preparations for the greatest undertaking in our years. We will be moving in to the newly discovered nation of Exponent to restore peace and bring this nation within our beneficial rule. We shall purge their tainted empire and in the process save them from themselves. We shall make them a stronger people, and in turn make ourselves stronger for the road that lies ahead. People of the Reich, this is our first test, a test of a might, a test of our mettle... A TEST of US! We shall pull through our test, and we shall do it, WITH GLORY!

We shall not do it for ourselves, we shall not do it for them... we shall do it for our Reich! FOR POWER!!!! FOR THE BLACK REICH!!!!!"

The roaring of the crowds was only drowned out as the massive organised air armada, the cream of the Reichan Air Arm, flew overhead, moving forward to support the Reichan army and Reichan navy as they moved against their respective targets...

High above, one of the few Reichan satellites positioned itself above the nation of Exponent... a few moments later, on command of some unknown elements on the ground, a trio of large metallic objects were jettisoned off the satellite. Called 'Heaven's arrow' by the rank and line troops, the burning up projectile, actually an enormously powerful explosive warhead, began its rapid descent through the earth's atmosphere towards its intended target.

In another part of the Reichan empire, the small missile command was given the order to launch the powerful GODHAMMER pattern Fuel Air Explosive weapons, as powerful as any small tactical nuke, but without the fallout... it was the perfect weapon for what would be the perfect invasion...

Or so every Reichan hoped...

P.S please ignore the swastikas and the like... these are just cool planes though!

ooc: Pythogria, i know wat ur tanks look like, ibought production rights to them lol, and black reich, thats alittle overkill for a rebellion, dont you think?

Pythogrian troops arrived just before daybreak at the ports, and helped the Imperial troops break out of the port. The Workers Party was now fortifying the area around Grand Army Square, in the north side of the city. They set up a huge wall of burned our cars and APC's, surrounded by barbed wire. In the square was a few anti air guns, and about 500 men, armed with mainly ak-47's and rpg-7's. T-55's were attempting to slow the advance of Pythogrian armor, but it was really not worth the fight. So far only 1 XM-1 was disabled on its way out of the port. Worker Party snipers were all over the city, and random street corners had machine gun nests positioned on them. It would be a tough fight to get through the city. General Steelblade was in a base somewhere outside of the city, with a few hundred soldiers. He ordered all major facilities to increase security in case of any special forces being sent in from abroad.

OOC: Relax Exponent, I won't godmode or anything dumb I promise, and anyway, sounds like your govt could do with a powerful(ish) ally right now seeing as you got nuke bombers and super battleships on their way

IC:

The invasion (the military commanders hated when the troops used that word, 'humanitarian engagement' was the preferred term) was going excellently, the few armed rebels who had been sent against them, however, unlike their erstwhile companions within the nations capital, had managed to put up a fairly decent fight. Unlike many of the other groups of resistance fighters who were seemingly being annihilated left, right and centre, these soldiers were working the countryside to the best of their advantage...

"TEAM TWO! MOVE FORWARD!" Barked Leiutenant Lewis, the sound of the enemy machine gun arching up again was drowned out by the KRAK-KRAK-KRAK-KRAK-KRAK of return assault rifle fire. One soldier got up to throw a smoke grenade but was cut down by a fullisade of gunfire from a previously unknown location, a dull roar of an engine and the squeaking and clanking of treads suggesting that it had been one of the few rebel T-55s that had escaped detection so far.

"ENEMY ARMOUR BEARING 0709! TAKE IT OUT!" Screamed Lewis, at that call a lone soldier slid forward and began to get a bearing with his powerful anti-armour rifle, the huge 20mm rounds had proven quite effective at making a mess of the elderly vehicles so far, and would not fail to disappoint now...

BOOM! The sound of the heavy rifle firing caught the attention of the machinegun crew again, who promptly riddled the area of the muzzle flash with bullets. "We need to nail that gun pit" Lewis thought as he noticed a huge flash of sparks spew up from the treads of the enemy armoured vehicle. After a second, more successful attempt to lay smoke he got his men to move forward, firing at the hip, whilst of limited accuracy, was proving quite capable of making the enemy duck for cover. Another three men however were cut down as they moved forward... slinking his way to the corner of the gun pit Lewis pulled the pin from a grenade, watched as the timer dropped to '2', and lobbed it through the open apeture.

The resulting explosion caused the small bunker to collapse in on itself, the troopers inside no longer posing much of a threat to anyone...

In the distance, a large battle was being fought, and he could see the clear burning trail of one of the Heaven's arrow shells flying down to strike a target...

...

The three heaven's arrow explosive warheads screamed out their unholy sounds as they drove through the sky as a burning meteor. Long since having been melted, the caps of the warheads were now sharp-pointed super-heated tips, more than powerful enough to decimate a skyscraper...

The first shell struck square on Grand Army square, and while it did little in the way of injuries or deaths, the sheer sight of this burning object burying itself into the ground and then exploding a huge portion of the square into oblivion was quite a sight indeed, the second shell missed its target slightly and drove through a skyscraper, detonating roughly two thirds the way down, the result was catastrophic as the huge iron juggernaut gave way to itself and collapsed into the street.

The last shell however struck somewhere not expected at all, it struck the harbour entrance of the local port, perhaps it was coincidence this was one of the few ports large enough to dock anything of super-battleship size... the few missiles that had been launched from within the Black Reich itself had taken care of another dock, although that had been less than surgical, and the huge blasted craters gouged from the earth signified the final resting place of a number of innocents...

"All in the name of peace" was Caldmoore's response to critique of his decision.

...

As this was occuring, Caldmoore sent a communique to the Exponent leadership, both the embattled government and the communist forces. Not surprisingly, this broadcast was picked up by those other forces that had decided to become engaged in this conflict...

ATTN: Leaders of the Exponent civil war

We, the glorious empire of the Black Reich, do not take kindly to our neighbouring empires being engaged in pity squabbling over politics. As you may be aware, our forces have begun the systematic annihilation of any armed resistance it encounters, and will continue to do so until both sides lay down their arms and come to the negotiating table. We care not for your politics or your beliefs, all we care about is that you work with us to create a region that is strong and can stand up against outside aggression. We have no qualm with your people, only your current inability to function effectively as a state.

Join us in our quest to make our nations powerful, the choice is yours.

In the City Villa of Senior Consul A. Commodus Disius, three men were surrounding a TV. The Consul now saw the news of Civil War, and felt obligated to do something for the fledging government of Exponent.

"Our army is not strong enough to supply troops to the nation, we cannot manage it," the Foreign Affairs Procurator, Marcus Vibius said.

"Yes, I realize this. Although we could attempt an airlift for the Chancellor, we could get him out of the city until order has been restored," Commodus replied.

The Foreign Affairs Procurator nodded in approval, and went to carry send word to the Chancellor and a transport for an armored helicopter.

Chancellor Lucius Blackhelm,

The Holy Republic of Disius, a small nation, offers to transport you and any other dignitaries that need to get out of the city, by a small and swift air lift. We will transport you to the Consuls' City Villa in New Roma, our capitol. If you accept we have one request. Once order is restored, we wish to build an embassy for our country in your city.

OOC: Black reich, are you going to attack the Imperial and Pythogrian soldiers as well as Workers Party troops?

The force pushing out of the harbor immediatly turned around and began making emergency repairs on the harbor, trying to fix whatever they could, while at the same time fending off attacks from the communist soldiers roaming the city. In Grand Army Square, the chaos from the shelling was beginning to subside, and they radioed out to General Steelblade to inform him of their situation. The General looked at his map, and tracked the route of the Black Reich invaders. He decided it would be best to keep them away from all of the major cities, as his men could use the forest to their advantage. He ordered a full division of 15,000 men to go out and meet the Reich troops. They would be supported by a small company of T-55's.

Meanwhile, in the Imperial Palace, a panic came over the Imperial Command Staff as they watched the skyscraper explode. The General of the now dispersed Imperial Army, General Claudius Blueshield, had watched the shells come down from his room in the Imperial Palace. He realized that they now may have a new enemy, and one with air power. He activated the 1000 AAD-1 anti air balloons that the Empire had recently ordered from the Phoenix militia. He then tried to figure out the best way to reorganize his battered army.

OOC: I will only attack them if they provide me with a valid reason, at the moment, ANY armed resistance against Reichan forces is being IC'd as a hostile act. Until such time as I get a communique from anyone else otherwise, it'll stay that way.

IC:
The men and women of the outlying suburbs of Paradise City were brought to fore along their driveways and walkways in the pouring rain.

For the small time they had been under the influence of the Reich they had learnt one thing - Reichans did not take kindly to the communist terrorists...

A single man fell to his knees on a makeshift podium for all to see, tears mixing with the rain as he recieved another jolt of the shock rod for his effort to stand. On his forehead was the word 'Terrorist'. His face was a mess of swells and bruises from where the Reichan soldiers had beaten him the days previously. A Reichan officer stood over him, shock stick circling menacingly, as if it were alive itself.

"SEE HERE! PEOPLE OF EXPONENT! SEE THE FACE OF YOUR HATED FOE!" he roughly grabbed the man by his battered jaw and bodily thrust him to his feet, the bulging of his eyes the only giveaway to the phenomenal pain shooting through his jaw from the vicelike grip.

The people looked in a mixture of horror and awe, some covered younger people's eyes as they themselves winced at the sight before them.

"THESE PEOPLE! THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE YOUR LIFE A MISERY, AND YET YOUR GOVERNMENT CANNOT EVEN ORGANISE A RESISTANCE AGAINST THEM!" He delivered a sharp kick to the captive, who promptly fell as obediently as he had learned over the past few days.

"But with us, with the assistance of our glorious empire, you can remove the taint of these scum! You can have a government that will be strong, and will make your people stronger than they ever were before!" He stepped forward from the helpless captive and spread his arms "all you need do is state your allegiance to your government and the values of the Reich. Peace through prosperity, prosperity through STRENGTH!" The orator moved back to the prisoner, pulled out his sidearm and prepared for the summary execution that was required by Reichan law.

More than a few murmors swept through the crowds, but it wasn't enough to convince the orator when suddenly he heard someone shout "LOOKOUT! IT'S ANOTHER TANK!"

Instantly people ran back into their houses. From one end of the suburb could be seen one of the advanced Pythogrian armoured vehicles, its chassis bristling with cannon and missiles, "hmmm, an impressive design indeed" the orator said, waving his free arm he signalled to the Reichan soldiers hiding within the area... with a number of waves he sent his signals Rocket troops maintain ambush position, infantry support provide backup

Giving the prisoner another forceful kick "stay down" he growled, the orator put his hand to his throat mic and spoke "Sector 2 command this is Example 5. We have armour of the advanced forces in our vicinity, request immediate AT airborne assistance on stand-by should necessity occur"

It would be the first face to face of Pythogria and the Black Reich, and it could end in one of two ways only...

(OOC: Hey I am going to hop in if no one minds. Exponent if you could toss up a map in paint – or very accurately describe your country – I think that might help a lot of people here.)

The capitol was a mess. Paradise City was ironically named because with four armies and an insurgency swirling about around it reminded General Tatiana Mikhailov like the stories of hellfire she was told as a child.

The general was placed in charge of securing Exponent and ending this insurgency – by means of forced negotiations. To that end the general was provided with the largest deployment of Otariet forces overseas to date. Taking stock of her charge she realized that the impressive endeavor in Soviet Arms Dealers paled in comparison to what she was given to accomplish her mission.

The charge of so many military assets was overkill when considering the resistance Exponent could offer up. It would be quite obvious to anyone observing that this was a show of force – for the benefit of the foreigners.

The fleet was two main prongs. With Paradise city turning very rapidly into a bloodbath General Tatiana Mikhailov had decided that throwing more meat into the situation would be less than productive. With this in mind the task force rushed towards either side of the Paradise City theatre. Well supported by the accompanying navy the transports would hit the beaches hard – spilling their cargo onto the sand. The Otariet forces would hold the two beaches and await the super freighters en route.

The super freighters were of the Foothold class and despite their designation cargo carrying was the least of their duties. Designed to be run aground at full speed these freighters were prepared bases that within hours of being run aground would be a staging point for the Otariet action in Exponent. The Footholds even possessed runways for the planes that were now being prepped in Otares proper for use in Exponent.

General Tatiana Mikhailov took stock of the scene. Tactical readouts pumped the situation into her war room. Sighing deeply she pressed the radio button – summoning her XO.
“Yes ma’am.” The clean shaven XO was quick in appearing.
“Walter.” The General smiled, addressing her longtime companion. She had served with her XO for along time and the two had become comfortable in referring to one another with less than perfect courtesy. Walter – seeing that the General was in an informal mood – stepped into the room closing the door.
“What can I do for you Tatiana.”
“Read this – tell me what you think.” Walter took the print out she offered. He took a moment to read it before looking over it to her face.
“It’s probably prudent but I don’t like it.”
“No?”
“No. We risk obliging ourselves to these people and that is not what we are about.”
“True – but being upfront might earn us some respect.”
“Perhaps – like I said though, prudent with reservations.” Tatiana nodded at Walter’s recommendations.
“I agree – send it to the Black Reich HQ, as well as the Pythogrian command.”

Message to the Black Reich and Pythogrians in Exponent

Greetings Comrade;

I am General Tatiana Mikhailov and I have been tasked with interceding into Exponent. As my advanced recon drones have confirmed there is already fighting within the capital. First I must say that I have no intention in interfering with your respective missions – Paradise City will be the last Otariet objective.

Otares is going to make two landings in Exponent and drive into the rest of the country. We will secure the surrounding countryside and leave the capitol untouched. And while this has no affect on your machinations for the capitol I send you this message for two reasons. One: as a courtesy to powerful interests whom we will be operating in proximity to. Two: we expect only domestic resistance in the countryside.

Otares is all but committed to the Exponent theatre and I must say that my nation once committed will have certain interests – as I am sure you both do. If it is so desired I can support a meeting after my landings – whereupon we can all come to terms with each other’s desires for Exponent’s destiny.

The tank turned towards the Black Riechians, and stopped. Infantry poured around it, and the commander shouted, "So, I'd assume this is the Army of the Black Riech?"

Of course, in case of trouble, several helicopters were ready to come into the fray...

The Reichan commander looked at what was before him, a single Pythogrian tank, a number of their infantry, and the telltale sound of helicopter blades signified that they had support on the way. "Hmmm, clever use of force" the officer said. Pausing slightly, he showed his hands as a measure of goodwill, motioning to an unseen pair of soldiers, they raced forward and grabbed the prisoner... they still had a summary execution to perform, and Reichans never failed in their duty...

As the orator moved forward a single BANG! came from behind him, he grinned slightly at the sound Another foul terrorist is cleansed he murmured to himself.

Along the street, after the one gunshot, the silence could almost be tasted, the only sounds being the sound of the rain, wind, and rumble of the tanks engine. Knowing he faced an armoured war machine and a number of potentially hostile infantry he moved up and performed a ceremonial Reichan bow - a slight dip of the shoulders.

"Greetings Pythogrian, it is about time our people met", the orator took off his wet weather helm to expose his face "I am Captain Peter Lomenko, fifteenth Reichan assault corps, and leader of the fifth example platoon."

The phythogrian sat in his cupola looking intently Can they understand a single bloody word of what I say? thought Lomenko. Nevertheless, he continued to speak, "As your people have yet to perform any significant actions against our own, we welcome you as brothers in arms for the moment. I am sure our leaders would like to end this bloodshed as soon as possible", he extended his arm in a gesture of what he hoped was comraderie for these people.

Back in The Black Reich

High Tyrant Caldmoore looked at the messages presented by his men and those of Otares. "Hmmm, seems we are getting along well enough with the Pythogrians, as long as they keep out of our way and we keep out of theirs we may be able to make something of this... 'understanding' once things have cooled down..." Caldmoore dismissed the issue with a wave of his hand and instead focused on the images from the Heavens Arrow satellite. The transports of Otares were huge, but they were good and fast.

"Hmph", he snorted, "they think they can just take what we have already won for our people and for the safety of Exponent do they? They tell us where we will stay while they are not even here?" Caldmoore rapped his fingers on the table as he read the message again, "no, we cannot allow them to just waltz in and take what Reichans have fought and died for, they will not be allowed to just take our land and our new peoples" Caldmoore said.

Looking over to his prime diplomat, High Ambassador Markan, he said "Markan, prepare the following messages..."

To Pythogrian leadership:
Greetings from the Black Reich

It seems our nations share a similar destiny, both of us have an interest in a peaceful and prosperous region, and both of us are willing to bring this about by whatever means is required. The Reichan people respect such steadfast beliefs and will to stand for what is believed to be right for your people, as such, we offer a meeting of government officials to begin talks between our people in hopes of establishing some form of understanding between our people.

May you prosper in times to come
High Tyrant Caldmoore

To Ortares leadership:
Welcome Ortares

Whilst we will tolerate your presence for the time being, the people of The Black Reich will offer this one measure of advice, be careful how you word your demands. As we have to others who are engaged in this incident we offer the mantle of possible future relations to you as well, however if you take territory that has been rightfully cleansed for the people of Reichan Exponent, we will be forced to defend our new young allies to the best of our abilities. We wish there to be peace between all involved in assisting our newest regional member, and hope this can lead to some form of future coalition in the expansion of our glorious empires.

In good faith
High Tyrant Caldmoore

As he finished the script, Ambassador Markan coughed a little, "excuse me High Tyrant sir, but there is the matter of this alleged army of Dunnemar"... the High Tyrant looked at the report and subsequent intelligence... he smirked, then chuckled slightly before calmly crumpling the report and dumping it in a nearby bin, "what sort of garbage was that?" he asked...

The transports made an almost whoosh noise as the alloy bottoms struck the sand of the beach. Before the craft had a chance to settle the doors had flung down into a ramp and the contents spewed forth. The first wave of transports was infantry and heavy tanks. The infantry sat upon the tank chassis and as soon as it had cleared the confines of the transport the infantry leapt from it and onto Exponent soil. The tanks – an impressive 120 tonne beast of reinforced steel alloys – rolled forward slowly, their tracks making deep impressions on the beach.

The infantry hurried about their task – sand bagging and fortifying the beachhead – while the majority of the tanks pushed on. The tanks were the tip of the wedge – albeit a blunt instrument themselves. The tanks were to push hard into the interior of the country. They would seize smaller airfields deeper into the country.

By now the second wave of transports was hitting the beach. APCs and mobile launchers – as well as more tanks – spilled from these vehicles. The APC followed after the tanks while the mobile launchers took up positions the infantry had cleared for them. Within moments the Otariets would have secured the beachhead required for the Footholds to come ashore.

OOC: Otares, i am confused about you, r u here to try and take over, or are you just putting down the rebellion. and Pythogria, are u siding with the Reich to take over? Also, i can build XM-1's cause i bought production rights right? if not let me no and ill change what i wrote.

Over Paradise City, the 1000 AAD-1 anti aircraft balloons were activating, tracking the Black Reich Air Force. If the outsiders became hostile, the ballons would release their devastating array of weaponry on them.

In the Imperial Palace, the command staff was in a state of confusion. It was now obvious the Black Reich was an enemy, here to exploit the rebellion for its own good. General Blueshield had sent a radio message to the Workers Party

General Steelblade
As you can see, your rebellion has begun to bring an end to our nation. I ask, no i implore you to bring your army back and join the Imperial Army. We will refit your forces with the better weaponry that we posess, allowing us to actually stand a chance against the outside threat. We will send supply trucks to resupply your forces with more modern weapons, and you can pick up more advanced armor at the factories.
Thank You,
General Blueshield

In his camp, General Steelblade recieved the message. As much as he hated to admit it, the nation came before his political agenda. He ordered his men to find the Imperial supply trucks and exchange their ak-47's and MP-5's for the more advanced SAR-21's the Imperial soldiers had. Hundreds of other men were sent to the armor factories to man the XM-1 tanks, the same as the ones Pythogria was using. With the two groups working together, they would be able to repel the Black Reich from their nation.

On airfields all over Exponent, the Workers Party was releasing the pilots that they captured in the beginning of the rebelion. The pilots got into their MiG-29's and A-36B Mustangs and awaited further orders.

The Pythogrian shook the man's hand, and replied in English, with a heavy Common Speech accent. "Yes, our government does want to save Exponent. After all, as far as we see, the Exponentian government hasn't really done much wrong."

The Ark 9 team had managed to lose those following them with mere speed and the oncoming night. With a Power Plant destroyed and merely auxillary power running Paradise City, they had made some progress. But they realised now through communications and intel that other forces were getting involved in this civil war. The team was also given new goals to achieve...which they began carrying out.

-------------------------------------------------------

The meeting had been delegated with care and tact. It had been a very careful process to ensure security AND secrecy. In one of the medium sized cities, not Paradise City mind you, a single house was the locale of the meeting. The urban sprawl of the city was blackened by both night and despair at the situation that was going on. Suddenly a civil war had turned into an affair of people sticking their fingers into one big pie.

Five members of the Ark 9 team were present, all sitting at a table in the basement of the home. Also at the table were some former Government officials and enterprising black marketeers. With an estimated 50% of the economy being Black Market under the oppressive anti-business regime, the black marketeers were making money with constant thought of being imprisoned while doing so. The government officials were being brought to the table by near force however. They had been rounded up the different black market organizations and their thugs. The meeting smelled like greed from the get-go.

"Shall we begin?" asked the leader of the Ark 9 team.

The assembled men all nodded with cigarette smoke wafting in the air above them.

"First off...your nation is in shambles. Foreign armies are marching and rolling across YOUR sovereign land as we speak. While one, if any of them, may have true objectives of peace and prosperity...it can be assured that the rest are all looking for a slice of Exponent. Some here are loyal to the Imperial Government...well guess what? They're on the verge of being murdered or turned into puppets. Some here have been attempting to survive and live under an oppressive rule. Some say that the people cannot live happily with businesses...Loudain is a contradiction to that. Our people make very good wages, we have low inflation, low unemployment, and low tax rates. Our economy is working well and moderate freedoms are being given to the people every day. A communist state will not be much better than the one that is being attempted to be overthrown."

He let his words sink into their heads for a moment before continuing.

"This is why you all must act...for the people in this coastal city and the outlying region comprising this area. They are out there living in squalor. You are starving your people. And when the noose of those foreign powers comes...well they will be strangled with it. This is why I have been informed by my government that I am allowed to make an offer to you men."

Now that the first speech had smacked reality in their faces, he continued.

"Rise up. Rise up and be noticed. Seperate yourselves from this sinking ship. A seperatist movement...a movement to create what is right and stand away from what is wrong. Should you assembled gentlemen here decide to carry out such a movement...you will have backing from the Loudainian government and King Alexander I. You will be given foreign aid...a rough first estimate is 5 billion. You will be given arms to re-arm yourselves. You will be allowed sovereignty. However...there are terms to this offer. You must install a Constitutional Monarchy government. Once you have achieved full seperation and sovereignty, you must ally yourselves with Loudain. Now we will also send military, government, corporate, and administrative officials to assist you in rebuilding what you create. Imagine a life for your children where they may be assured decent wages and living conditions. Or a life where they can be safe at night. A life where they may survive."

Once he finished talking, he lit up a cigarette and watched the faces of those assembled. Did Loudain want a piece of the Exponent pie too? Of course. But right now was a time for salesman style tactics.

"And these conditions are assured I assume?" spoke out one of the men.

"Of course."

The men began speaking to each other. They bargained and haggled. They argued and negotiated. And when all was said and done, they looked to the Ark 9 team leader.

"I believe we have a deal..."

Water broke along the bow of the HES Fatherland, a Titan Class Carrier and the flag ship of Mastir Genrael Von Furer. The Genrael stood with his hands clasped behind his back as he surveyed the process of his fleet. The Skull and Crossbones gleamed in fluorescent lights strung up in the bridge.

"Genrael! We've entered Exponent waters."

"Send the Shadow Sharks out for surveillance. Report back to me when they have completed their sweep."Came the firm reply from the Naval General.

"Yes Genrael."

Gazing down at the rows of planes assembled before him he turned to the Brigade Genrael standing next to him.

"Send out the RADFs, I want reports as soon as possible. If they're fired on...don't hesitate to fire back."

Transport ship, making its way towards Paradise City

Flaeg Sergant Tuya ran his fingers over the stubble that had accumulated on his chin. He was surprised at the quiet that engulfed him as his the transport zoomed through the water, the Destroyers lay quiet, not a sound from the Frigates. It wasn't like the normal attacks they'd been in before. He assumed the utter silence was because the Genraels were afraid they might hit Pythogria's forces.

"Alright men listen up, our job is to take the beach head. Once we get there fan out, take out all resistance and then advance into the city. Our target is the fuel depot, there is known resistance there and we're supposed to take it out...You're blessed by the Fatherland and the Emperor. May they protect you."

Before the boat had settled the Morgians were off the boat and waste deep in the water, guns exploded firing on the dark shapes in front of them...

HES Fatherland

"Sir the beach head has been secured..."

A smile cracked the lips of the Genrael and he glanced out at the burning ruins of the city. "Has there been word from the subs?"

"They encountered some resistance, but we have not received word as to whether or not they were friendly."

"Very well, give the order to advance. Send word to Emperor Talrich that things are looking right on course...but things are not under control yet."

As the messenger ran off Von Furer glanced out at the dark waters, ships were arriving from the Ocean. Despite the relative silence from the Morgian guns before they had been lively for several hours before finally stopping, afraid they would begin to hit their own forces.

"So it begins...the people of the Fatherland will be pleased." With that the Naval Commander retired to the lower decks, the sound of gun fire and jets ringing in his ears.

The Chancellor looked out a window of the palace, facing the port. There were hundreds of soldiers making repairs on it after the Black Reich missile attack. Looking into the harbor, he watched the dozens of little boats bobbing up and down in the water. Farther out to sea was some more boats. They looked weighted down. They were probably fishing boats, hauling back their cargo. A few freighters were sitting in the port. Another was anchored about 3 miles out to sea. Small patrol boats zipped around the harbor. The only battleship in the navy, the EIS Excelsior was at its port in the city of Divinity, about 50 miles up the coast.

The daring class approached the city, but slowed down. Smoke was coming from the city. No doubt, the workers party had made a large effect on the city. Snipers stood in the observation tower with their spotters, searching for enemies. The destroyer then approached the harbour to dock.

General Tatiana Mikhailov cursed as the tactical display updated – showing now active Exponent aircraft. Shaking her clenched fist she shot a wild eyed glare to her XO.
“Walter.” Her voice would’ve killed at that point – her tone deadly serious. “Tell me for the love of the above that our anti air is in place?” Her XO swallowed before returning in a controlled voice. He knew her bluster was to hide her worry for the safety of the troops – but she put up one hell of a poker face. Tatiana lashed out when she was even the smallest bit insecure – it made for interesting conversations to say the least. However as a military leader it was a very desirable characteristic.
“Our air defence is – mostly in place. The launchers are being setup now. Any slack near the coast can be picked up by the ships systems though – it is only our inland anti-air which might be lacking.”
“Is this going to be a problem?”
“Not for the Migs. They’re an air superiority fighter and I don’t foree them giving the armor ground heavy casualties. Though unprotected APCs are a worry. The Mustangs are our primary concern as they can carry enough ordinance to hinder the armor column.”
“Solutions?”
“We have dispatched some recon drones to the area for enhanced sensor resolution. If they harry our troops we can respond with deadly force – but with the holes in the defence they will get some rounds off.” Tatiana nodded at this.
“Make the air defense a priority. I want my incursions to have air superiority. Speaking of which can we put the footholds aground?”
“Yes ma’am they only need final clearance.”
“Given, go.”

The giant Foothold class ships came ashore in a thunderous roar. Cutting a trench into the beach the great ships stormed into the tree line – cutting a swath out of the natural sights of Exponent. The great ships armor belt expanded outwards as it plowed unto land – expanding the surface area of the ships. It took two deafening minutes for the ships engines to finally overload – unable to push the mass of tonnage any further inland. It looked rough but with a little imagination one could see it. The Foothold class ship would be a functional outpost in a couple of hours, a functional airport in less than two days, and a deepwater port before the end of the week. Even now transport ships cut over its muddy wake to put bulldozers and cranes ashore. Footholds were probably the most efficient way to put down a base – but the cost was astronomical. The mobile nature of the ship would never be salvaged. No Footholds were deployed only when Otares was committed to laying down some serious infrastructure.

In the fields outside the city, the Workers Party is still fighting the Black Reich. It is a pretty lopsided fight, but the communists were a determined force. They had managed to hold the Black Reich in Heavens Valley, just outside the city, but how long they would maintain the high ground was unknown. About 100 T-55 tanks poured down the hill firing their 100mm main gun and their top machine guns into the Black Reich lines below. Roughly 1000 Workers Party soldiers charged down the slopes with them, guns blasting. Another 50 tanks took up defensive positions on top of the hills behind a makeshift sandbag/debris fortification. the other 14,000 men waited as well, firing their ak's, mp-5's, and rpg-7's, raining fire on the Reich troops below. 2 Mi-24's appeared, and added to the communist firepower by unloading the armament on the Reich line, then providing cover with their 12mm machine gun for the men charging down the slope.

The big metal board was set out as men unloaded. Because they were using an anti-air destroyer instead of a transport ship, the had to unload everything by hand. The artillery and tanks had to be pushed up a series of ramps to the top deck. A few men were resourceful enough to fashion strong ropes out of steel wool for the men to pull on. It was kind of like tug of war. Still, it was tiring business. A transport ship had been commissioned by the navy, but only just recently. They weren't the ones who would use it. The men did not finish unloading, and took a break. After a bit of a breather, they would start again.

roughly 30 XM-1 tanks and a few dozen troops had showed up on the beach where the Footholds had landed. Mustangs flew by overhead, surveying the scene. A man stepped forward from the group. "I am colonel Octavius Redaxe, of the Imperial Army. What are your intentions on our land?" as he said this, the men behind him locked and loaded, the tanks took targets, and the Mustangs turned around, flying towrads the footholds again.

The Ark 9 Team had moved their HQ to Divinity. They had sent communications back to Loudain concerning the deal that was brokered as well as the need for supplies and the such. But now they were more concerned with how to execute their strategy with success. The underground Corporate forces had gathered to form a coalition army...if that's what you could call it. They were armed with rebel arms roughly, though they had better resources that the Workers Party which meant RPGs, Explosives, and Sniper Teams accompanied their standard AK-47s. The government officials who had also agreed to the deal were at their underground offices and working with the Ark 9 team. The objectives were laid out and everyone agreed that speed would be their best ally. The question arose about the support of the citizenry, and all agreed that it would be feasible. Already the Corporate forces were working hand in hand with local churches to assure aid to the citizens caught in the middle of this civil war. All Workers Party supporters had left to do attack Paradise City, only loyalists and those who stayed neutral remained. And those who stayed neutral were those who already had grudges against the Imperial government for its policies and organization.

At around eight o'clock at night the forces began their seperatist movement.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The first target of the evening was a local TV and Radio station. While all such stations had been beefed up with security to some extent, they were still spread thin. And under the quiet blanket of darkness, they suspected little...that is until the light from explosions and gunfire turned night into day.

The explosions came from a violent RPG attack and suddenly local buildings with windows were errupted in muzzle flashes and noises. Imperial Forces began to take cover but they had been startled by the quick attack. The urban sprawl of Divinity proved dangerous to armor support with Seperatist forces moving quickly and blowing the tracks off any tanks assembled there. Molotov cocktails flew like flaming birds through the air and smashed to form seas of fire and screams.

The Seperatists quickly pushed the forces back into the station building where the brutal gunfights began. Fifteen men quickly died in a rush as the Seperatists fought with anger and fury against the Imperial forces.

A half an hour after the fighting begun, it was over....

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, the largest group of Seperatist forces made their way to the harbor. The EIS Excelsior sat peacefully in its dock. Imperial forces were obviously on guard but supplies were running very low with supply chains caught off. They were pushed to looting even at times, which did not help them in winning the hearts and minds of the people. Loudainian satelite photos had given a perfect map of the Naval Port. With the nation's only Battleship docked there, it was a near goldmine for bargaining and supplies. The armory in the naval port for a battleship would be perfect.

The main gates to the harbor from the city were guarded well with machine gun nests. Men off-duty were relaxing in their barracks and playing cards to music.

And much like the radio and TV station attack...this one came out of nowhere.

The assault was furious with RPGs and gunfire going off against the entrance gates. Alarms were sounded as men rushed to their positions for defense. A large truck accelerated toward one of the main gates packed with explosives, however had its tires shot out. As the speeding truck began to flip, it exploded into a rolling ball of burning steel. Each bounce sent a large blast and explosion off. But was this even the real attack?

Fourteen small craft boats began to sneak into the harbor. The water lapped softly at the sides as they manuevered into position. Seven of the boats made their way to the quiet EIS Excelsior. The other seven moved to other docks where men began to get off. These weren't half-trained Workers Party rebels...these were hired thugs. Men who made livings off killing. Many of them were ex-military. They had been bought by the Corporations and Black Market Organizations. Now they were moving with speed and stealth towards the key objectives. The first was the armory, another was the supply depot, and the final one was the Command Center. The frontal assault distraction had worked it seemed with little resistance being met. The other seven boats by the EIS Excelsior were throwing hook lines to begin climbing up the sides of the ship and onboard. Once onboard, they went about fighting their way to secure the key objectives of the Engine room, the Bridge, The armory, Communications room, and the Gun rooms. The sailors had been caught off guard and those that didn't surrended when they saw the guns pointed at them were killed. Those who did surrendered were rounded up and sent to the onboard stockade. The officers, EXO, and Captain were also rounded up and sent to the stockade.

At the frontal assault, the Seperatists were making strides forward with Imperial Forces being pushed back. Back...into the Seperatists forces already in the harbor. The following ambush was brutal, and a failed attack on one of the armory bunkers sent a violent and earth shaking explosion into the air. A last-chance counter-attack was staged but by now they were losing both men and morale.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

As the sounds of battle echoed through the night in Divinity, by dawn they had hushed. The sound of deadly silence drifted through the quiet streets with the signs of battle being obvious. That morning as the citizens turned their radios and TVs on, they were greeted by an assembly of government officials and corporate representatives.

"Ladies and Gentlemen of Divinity. At eight PM last night, a seperatist offensive was staged to throw off the Imperial yoke that had been laid upon our city. We are proud to report there was very very minimal civillian casualties. We are also proud to report that the Imperial government no longer governs Divinity and our outlying suburban region. As of today...your assembled civic, religious, and business leaders do proclaim that we seperate ourselves from Exponent and deem ourselves both an independent and sovereign entity. In days leading up to this move, we have tried to figure out why the former regime has failed...and we have come to the conclusion that it is because of a lack of strength. We have also come to the conclusion that a Communist regime would be no better. This is why we feel that it is in the best interests of all citizens in Divinity that we formally declare ourselves independent of both the former Imperial regime AND the Workers Party revolution. In the days to come, we will be drafting a constitution to create a strong and powerful executive branch with representative legislative branch and a fair judicial branch. We will also be encouraging public support and activity in these affairs. As of today, we govern our own fates and destinites...we govern ourselves, as opposed to a weak Chancellor or an insane revolutionary. We encourage citizens to go about cleaning up Divinity with support from Seperatist forces, and to begin going back to normal life. It is time that we begin the rebuilding of the future for our children and grand-children. Let us have freedom ring today...and in jubilation shall we celebrate it. Thank you."

And such an event did happen. The comforting words from the speaker and assembled men had lifted the spirits of the people. They took to the streets to smile, laugh, and dance. They tore down both Workers Party propoganda posters and Imperial flags and insignia. They began to knock over statues that glorified the Imperial regime and cheered on as Seperatist forces drove and marched through the streets.

Meanwhile, from the Naval Port...another form of communication was taking place.

To: Chancellor Lucias Blackhelm
From: Daniel Croft, Governor-Director of Divinity

It is my duty to inform the Chancellor that as of today, the city of Divinity is no longer a member of Exponent. The city and its outlying suburbs have delcared both independence and sovereignty over their own affairs. The course of actions leading up to this decision cannotbe changed and need no discussion. What is now possible is peace. Peace so that needless bloodshed be continued. Regardless of a positive or negative response to this message, it is also my duty to inform the Chancellor that the EIS Excelsior is now in our hands. We have no need to murder or kill captured Imperial soldiers and sailors, nor the commanding officers. Nor do we have any need for such a large Battleship. However if provoked and attacked, we will execute the prisoners and scuttle the battleship. It is hoped that you will see reason and sit down to acknowledge our independence as well as assure the safety of your men.

And another communique was sent out as well.

To: All foreign powers involved in the Exponent Civil War Conflict
From: Daniel Croft, Governor-Director of Divinity

As of today, the city of Divinity and its suburbs declare independence and sovereignty. Divinity is no longer a member or affiliate of this civil war between Imperial forces and the Workers Party.

And a final communique sent out from the Constitutional Monarchy of Loudain

To: Chancellor Lucius Blackhelm, and all foreign powers involved in the Exponent Civil War
From: King Alexander I of Loudain and Prime Minister Wesley of Loudain

It is with great honor and pride that the nation of Loudain recognizes the new sovereign and independent power of Divinity. The nation of Loudain also offers their support to Divinity for rebuilding and establishing a new government. It is highly advised that those involved in the Exponent Civil War do not regard Divinity as a member of such a conflict, and that performing offensive tactics against Divinity will result in conflict with the nation of Loudain.

OOC: The workers party rejoined the Imperial government for the time being. The guys fighting the Black Reich dont know this yet, and that is why they have not upgraded their weapons.

Aboard the Excelsior, things looked grim. The communications officer had just gotten a message from Admiral Claudius Steelhammer. It was short, but understood, reading "Take one for the team, boys" The men knew what they had to do. The Excelsior was carrying a large amount of Lewisite on board, to be used against the Workers Party is they attacked Divinity. The Seperatist attack caught the ship off guard, and the Lewisite was never able to be deployed. The sailors were going to die for their nation, and take down all of the traitors in the city with them. Bombs were planted all over the ship on the first day of the communist uprising, in case the ship was taken. The only officer left on the ship, the comms officer gave the order to destroy the ship. An ensign flipped a switch on a small device in his hand. Moments later, the pride of the Impeial fleet exploded in a massive fireball, showering the area with debris. Seconds later, a cloud of Lewisite began to form around the wreck, slowly covering the city.

Meanwhile, a force of ex-Workers Party men began moving toward Divinity. There was about 300 T-72 tanks, supported by 50 XM-1's, along with about 10,000 infantry. The men all understood that once the could unify the nation, then they would talk about their government. The Chancellor had promised new rules protecting workers rights. Although this was not the new order they dreamed of, it was a start. But for now, the country came first.

A message from Chancellor Blackhelm

Fellow Exponentials, today, the city of Divinity was attacked by a band of Seperatist soldiers, provided with support from the government of Loudain. In response to this attack, this EIS Excelsior detonated its large store of Lewisite. This undoubtedly has inflicted countless casualties. Allowing this attack to take place was possibly one of the most difficult things I have had to order during my reign. As much as I regret saying it, this was a necesary maneuver. Our forces are stretched far to thin to be able to adequetly deal with this new problem, and if it was left untreated, it would surely have spread out beyond the city into the countryside. I also regret to inform you, that as of this morning, we are at war with the nation of Loudain for supporting the Separatist rebels. The war will not be a good war, and many lives will be lost, but it is necesary for the survival of the Empire.
FOR THE EMPIRE!!

So while I am committing a lot of forces into Exponent they are not all in theatre yet. I also do not have the stuff that is being prepped in Otares proper – that will be cargo planed in, but this is because I have not secured any of the airfields inland yet.

And remember two beaches one on either side of the capitol city.
IC:

The Exponent troops were stopped at the perimeter – a good distance from the Foothold. After a few tense moments with a conscript – who had no grasp of the native tongue – an officer was fetched. The officer introduced himself and offered his hand to the colonel.
“Well Colonel it is good to meet you. I am Royal Lieutenant Andrei Vasilev. Before we continue I would very much appreciate it if you called your planes back and told your men to stand down. I imagine your pilots are probably pretty nervous right now.”

While the Royal Lieutenant spoke each plane had dozens of confirmed sensor locks. Active LIDAR and RADAR washed into the air as the air defence came active. Worse still as the planes approached the Foothold the defences there picked the planes up, as well as the air defence of the ships out to see. All told there were dozens of anti-aircraft sites pointed skyward; be it land or sea based.

Andrei Vasilev, still in a collected voice, addressed the Colonel in front of him.
“We intend you no harm Colonel and I think you can see that if we wanted to we could do much harm. And so I tell you this. Otares is here to end the insurrection. We are to take onto us all the Imperial and Worker soldiers. These soldiers are to be brought into a new unified army to restore the peace.

“But right now I ask you to tell your men to stand down.”

Several kilometers from the tension on the Otariet perimeter the armor column began its first stop. The tanks rolled about in a sweeping pattern as an APC unloaded its contents. The unloaded infantry dug into the spot that the tanks had cleared. Once the forward outpost was secure the column continued on – its path slightly arced now. While no one without active overhead surveillance would realize it the two armored divisions were circling the capitol city several kilometers out and leaving sand bagged fortifications in its wake.

Major arteries were secured with large deployments of infantry. The fighting in the capitol was being isolated from the rest of the country. The Otariet troops hoped to act as a thin line, containing the bloodshed to the capitol.

Back in her war room on her flag ship General Tatiana Mikhailov looked at the transcript of the messages put out by divinity. Shaking her head she looked to her XO.
“Walter do we have the Foothold’s airstrips running yet?”
“No ma’am”
“Have we secured any inland airfields?”
“No ma’am.”
“Dammit why not?”
“Well by deciding to flank the capitol with the armored advance we simply don’t have the troops.” The general snorted at this.
“Walter we have more troops concentrated here than anywhere else.”
“Yes ma’am and most of them are still either waiting for the Foothold docks to come active or are being ferried from the freighters. It’s slow going without a port.” Seeing the general’s nostrils flared – a sure sign that she was going to spew rage again – Walter raised his hand. “We have some ashore now and when the port comes active in the next few days we will be able to put a lot of troops down very quickly.” The General nodded at this – frustrated at the logistics of this early stage beaching.
“Give me a status report on what we have put down in the last day. This UDI cannot go unanswered.”
“Yes ma’am.” Walter called a junior officer over and leaned into the man’s ear. Speaking quietly the young man nodded vigorously and then ran back to his station. “It will be coming on your screens momentarily ma’am.”

As the screen began bringing up force projections in green text on black background Tatiana squinted. Reading to herself she mumbled, “We had 30 hours of unloading with 200 landing craft… we need to maintain base defences – what can we spare.” Looking up from the screens she gave the order to Walter.
“I want you to divert this.” Motioning to certain lines on the screen.
“To where?”
“Divinity – I will start the response but I want the troops going ~ pronto.”

It was a bit of a logistical hurdle but inside of an hour of the Governor-Director of Divinity’s message an Otariet mobile force was en route for the city (of Divinity). Spearheaded by 50 heavy tanks the rapid response unit moved, on average, 70kph. The city would be able to see the dust cloud of the convoy within a few hours.

The centre column rolled straight for divinity. The intimidating rank and file of the 120 ton tanks would be the first thing citizens of divinity would see. Any who looked for it though would see that the flanks of the heavy tanks were peppered with a formation of 25 lighter tanks. And information with these tanks was a smattering of 75 pieces of light artillery.

The rear flank of the formation was comprised of 35 APC – all full with infantry. These lightly armed APC formed a semicircle around the bread basket of the formation – the mobile launchers, heavy artillery, CnC, and support vehicles.

A menacing sight to be sure but with no declaration of Otariet intent – or indeed participation – one could hardly expect the assault. Tatiana herself had no intention to order the assault – except for an hour before it was launched.

(OOC: Yea I’ve been up for two days so I apologize if this is less than sensical)

roughly 30 XM-1 tanks and a few dozen troops had showed up on the beach where the Footholds had landed. OOC: Otares' footholds

Commander Julius Blackhorse of the Workers Party looked at the chaos unfolding around him. He felt betrayed by Steelblade giving into the Chancellor and joing the Imperial forces. He watched the scenes of all the foreign forces coming ashore, and of the lewisite attack on Divinity. He realized that now would be the opportune time to break away from Exponent, and form a communist state of his own. Together with a force of nealy 100,000 hardline ex-Workers Party members, he formed a new group, the True Workers Party. The TWP was still poorly armed, but they had succeeded in taking one of the largest airfields in the country. At the Redemption Air Base, Blackhorse gathered his forces. He had mustered a force of 90,000 infantry, almost 500 T-55 battle tanks, 50 Mi-24 helicopters, and nearly 700 T-22 backfire bombers.

It was with these bombers that he would inflict his first casualties. He had recieved reports that a force from the nation of Kubra had been attempting a landing. This would not be acceptable. He ordered 50 bombers to the landing site, and annihilate any Kubrian on the shore. The only AA the Empire had was in Paradise City, so the bombers would have to take a long way and flank the soldiers on the ground. As the last backfire took off down the runway, Blackhorse began planning his next phase of attack.

General Steelblade had now rejoined the Imperial Army, and was now preparing his force to go back to Paradise City, and defend it from any outside threats. He had a large force under his command, and they were well supported in the air. Any invasion of the city would be met with deadly force.

OOC: who's footholds?

(Mine Foothold is a class of ship which sole purpose is to beach and form the skeleton of a base. It contains landing strips, barracks, infrastructure, pre-made defences, etc. Moreover there is a lot of cargo capacity so it puts a lot of equipment on shore in short order. I need only unpack the sucker.

I have currently deployed a Foothold on the coast on either side of the capital and Exponent is coming out to figure out what my intentions are. Since I just sort of showed up, only offering up a message to the two most powerful foreign interests; Pythogria and Black Reich)

As supplies continued to be unloaded, snipers and theri spotters were sent to different areas. Their job was to kill any stary hostiles or scouts, as well as radio the main force if a large attack force should aproach. The men continued to unload stuff. They were assured a hydraulic would be on the next shipment of men and supplies, but that remained to be seen. In the meantime, the soldiers did what they could. The Daring remained docked, serving as a barracks for the men. Everyone worked to the best of their ability. Then someone had the brilliant idea of driving the tanks to the surface instead of pulling them. also, the tanks could tow the artillery. It was so simple, that the commanding officer went into a depression.

T-22's approached the Kubrian force, and began radioing each other. "This is Red 1 over the hostile forces, preparing to drop." as this order was issued, the first plane flew over the Daring, unloading its bombs. Plane after plane flew by, laying devastation on the ship. By the time all 70 planes would be finished with the bombing, the Kubrian forces would be eradicated from Exponent.

Meanwhile at the TWP airbase, the second phase of the new Communist uprising was starting. Mi-24 choppers flew out of the base. Their new mission: find and destroy any towns within 50 miles of the base still loyal to the Empire.

"Coyote to base, large body of potential hostiles spotted", said a sniper to his radio. From the Daring, the CO heard the call and started to order men different positions. Although, it was too late. Bombs were already dropping on the Daring. But after all, the Daring was an anti-air destroyer. The shipboard surface to air missiles opened up on the bombers. The flak guns followed suit.

Unfortunately, it was not enough. Bombs ripped though the Daring, sinking it. Luckily, the ship was in shallow port water. Although it was now useless, it could be salvaged. In fact, a flak gun still worked. It kept firing at the enemy.

Most of the soldiers were off the ship, staring at the smoking wreck of the Daring. From that, C5 Galaxy LMG's were set up on bipods. The eryx launchers were set on tripods, as well as set on the shoulders of soldiers. They were all aimed at the roads where tanks and soldiers could go through to reach the soldiers. The laxily duggen foxholes were hastily fiunished with the dirt put in sandbags. The sandbags were passed around, creating barricades. Everyone was gearing up fro a battle.

(OOC: Consider this a standing order once the helos begin firing on civilians)

The general looked on in horror as the tactical read out reported the helicopter’s new genocidal firing patterns.
“Walter bring the mobile launchers up we need to bring those helos down. I will not have these idiots killing the citizenry I am here to protect.”
“Yes ma’am”

Within moments the launchers had coordinates – relayed from advanced recon drones. Spitting fire from the base of the unit the launcher spewed forth a medium range missile. The missile itself was tracked for a three dimensional coordinate. It was the missiles payload, which was meant for the helicopter. Each missile was a guided sabot for 32 smaller air to air missiles. The missiles were fact and incredibly maneuverable – designed to track and kill vehicles as fast as jet interceptors. There was little doubt that the helicopters would not survive. Just to be sure overkill was the concept in mind, with a ratio of 4 payloads to 1 helicopter.

Out of 1 truck, a TWP soldier leaned out the window, and fired an rpg directly at a barricade. The battle between Kubra and the TWP had begun.

General Tatiana Mikhailov looked at the display in front of her. Apparently saving those civilians was going to bring the wrath of the Rebellion down on their position. Shaking her head in anger she did not like what this forced her to do. Almost as a sigh she looked to her XO.
“Walter. Bring the destroyers closer to foothold, over lap the air cover. Begin firing at those bombers. Right now they are still scrambling, we can get a few salvos out before they hit the armored column.

“Have the tanks pull back. Draw Exponent through the trees. If they want to engage the tanks they will have to go through the shooting gallery first. We will use our fire support to our advantage here. Get the fleet to start launching cruise missiles, one per tank. With the extra time gotten from the retreat we should be able to lay waste to their armor – leaving only unsupported infantry.

“As for the unsupported infantry,… bring the cruisers main guns online. Load the showers and flense the woods.” Walter winced at that command. He knew what she wanted done. Otariet cruisers were often used in a fire support role and as such a lot of special ammunition was kept onboard. The ammunition she was referring to was a sabot that contains hundreds of copper shards. The round would fly towards its target, intact, until it was about thirty to fifty feet from the ground. Then it would explode. While the explosion itself did not do much damage to the target – it did super heat the copper shards and throw them down into the target. Unlike harder shrapnel the copper liquefies at this temperature – until it is cooled by its target. All too often its target is human flesh. The liquid metal seers into the bodies and begins to run through it. Perhaps down a vein, or around a bone; before it diffuses though the metal cools and the target is left with a shrapnel wound that requires hours of surgery. Walter knew that most people didn’t like using these weapons – they were certainly outlawed by other nations. But Otares had never signed any treaty restricting itself to certain weapons.

Walter’s internal lament was interrupted by the General’s last two orders

“Prepare another expedition similar to the one we have en route to Divinity. Send it out to support the armor columns.

“Record which bases these forces are coming from we are going to need to take retribution later.”

He would have 50 men take the unarmed Cessna aircraft on the base into the skies. the Cessnas would fly 1 cessna to eech bomber and provide a suicide shield, and crash into the missiles before they hit the bombers. The remaining 20 were flying low over the tanks and soldiers, ready to absorb the projectiles flying towards them as well.

The general gave a grunt to the tactics that Exponent was not practicing. More confused then anything she walked over to her XO seeking the answers that she was not getting by wracking her own brain.
“Walter.”
“Yes ma’am.”
“What the hell are the Exponent troops doing?”
“Well ma’am they appear to be trying to shield their troops from our assault by…” The general cut in.
“Walter the response time of launching aircraft is measured in minutes. Impressive but the in flight time of our missiles is measured in seconds. The sabot travels at about mach 3.5 while the payload missiles break out and accelerate to mach 4. There is no way the Cessnas will get there in time. In fact in the amount of time I have said this to you we have launched three more volleys, two of which had time to deploy and then strike their targets.”
“Yes ma’am.” Walter was uneasy – not knowing what his commanding officer was looking for.
“Deploy another drone to the area I want to increase sensor data – something else must be going on. In the meantime bring down those Cessnas as well. As for the ones overtop of the infantry bring some incendiary rounds into the mix; if they want to take a hit they can fall their fiery flaming frames into their friends. Bring one of the battle ships online, increase the bombardment.”
“Yes ma’am.”
“And get the fleet to redouble the cruise missile launches – obliterate those tanks. The airbases are now a target too. I am trying to practice limited warfare here but I don’t think the other side is getting it.”
“What do you mean ma’am?”
“I have enough military firepower at my disposal that I could turn this country into dust and roll tanks over a wasteland. Instead I have only engaged threats as they appear. And even when those airbases launched these cursed bombers I concentrated on the bombers – leaving the bases alone.”
“Yes ma’am.” Walter was still not sure what the general was getting at but he knew better than to interrupt her.
“Have the armor column fall back into the ranks of the support we scrambled. It’s infantry chasing a mobile force – we can obviously out maneuver them. If the infantry are stupid enough to chase the tanks back to the reinforcements then it will be infantry on open ground against an encroaching heavy tank formation. As for the bombers, have they begun firing yet?”
“Not yet ma’am.”
“Well just keep firing missiles we are talking about an open air engagement where we have a large concentration of anti-air. The upper hand is ours.”
“Yes ma’am.” Walter walked off quickly. He didn’t know what the Exponent where doing either, but he couldn’t see how they were going to survive so many ordinances.

The Cessna's, proving ineffective, split into 3 groups. 1 group would assist in covering the infantry, while another would launch kamikaze attacks on the enemy armor, and the 3rd would continue to attempt to cover the bombers. As they began to dive on the Otariet armor, the infantry began to spread out into 3 long straight lines, completly covered under the Cessna wall overhead.

Meanwhile, at the airfield, General Blackhorse seemed happy, as a new division began rolling in. They had been captured from an Imperial base early in the rebellion, but General Steelblade did not use them. Nearly 200 ZSU's began rolling onto the base, along wih a number of patriot missile batteries, and almost 100 SCUD missile launchers. The patriots and Scuds were set up immediatly. Within a few minutes, General Blackhorse ordered all 100 SCUDs to open up on the retreating Otariet armored division. The bombers failed, hopefully this wont. Blackhorse was still expecting 3 more shipments of new weaponry to be brought in soon.

(OOC: I am a bit confused as to this is going down so I have included some ooc notes – they will be the stuff in brackets.)

(I am a bit unsure as to how the ‘suicide shields’ are now doing anything. I thought their original purpose was to take a missile for a bomber. But regardless I have made a post mentioning that these planes are having missiles fired at them too.

As for getting a Cessna to shield an infantry platoon. The Cessna moves much faster than a man on foot. In fact it has to or it falls from the sky because there needs to be a certain amount of wind resistance. As an aside you do realize that even if this were possible a Cessna cannot take a round from a cruiser. My cruiser’s primary gun is a 12 inch fast track. If it was unlucky enough to absorb a battleship’s shot it is an 18 inch shell. Moreover if all of the above is possible I won’t mention the fiery mess a Cessna makes when it goes down.

As for the bombers dive bomb I guess I can be blamed here for not specifying numbers. But consider the launchers at the foothold. They each hold 12 rockets – which break into 32 missiles – there are 16 mobile launchers at one Foothold – So I can put 6,144 missiles into the air in short order. And while I could imagine a bomber taking perhaps two missiles to bring down I think I have it covered.)

The Cessnas dove at the Otariet armor position with reckless abandon. The heavy planes careened towards the tanks. It took a second before the commander realized what was going on but as soon as he did the radio began to crackle.
“Holy shit those planes are going kamikaze. Turn around, drive at them.”
“What?”
“They’re freaking Cessnas not jet fighters we might be able to get under their dive range. APC guns up!” With that the tanks began to turn back towards the charging Cessnas, hoping to get under the plane’s maneuverable range. As the troops pin wheeled the APCs brought their machine guns up skyward. The bright rounds began to fly upwards, giving the Cessnas trouble of their own.

The tactic was mostly successful but, and the undefended Cessnas absorbed a lot of fire but as the Cessnas plowed into the ground they still did a lot of damage without living crew or functioning systems. The rear of the formation was hit hard. A few dozen APCs were utterly obliterated, while others would need repairs.

The general looked at the probe telemetry coming in.
“Our father above.” She whispered as she crossed herself. “It’s a good thing we put more drones into the area or we would have never seen this being set up.” Looking up to her XO she shouted. “Walter I am feeding you some co-ordinates, there are almost 400 of them. I want you to put two missiles on each of them.”
“Ma’am that is going to seriously reduce our projection power for the next fifteen minutes – the navy has not yet fully reloaded from hitting the tanks.”
“We still have main guns and some missiles. Get them reloading dammit! These launchers might be able to damage the base – I would rather take them out now and deal with the next 15 minutes as they come.”
“Yes ma’am.”
“And send in some more drones – we need to keep track of what is going on out there.”
“Yes ma’am.”

Blackhorse had now had most of the Otariet AA focused at the bombers and Cessnas. This was a good time to strike the footholds. He would be able to take out the Imperial troops there as well as the Otariet ones. 150 Tu-22's were scrambled, eech 1 with a smaller plane to provide a missile screen. They would be upon the footholds in moments. 70 Su-30's blasted off ahead of the bombers, hoping to soften up the footholds for the bombers.

Walter called out the incoming planes. The General winced. She had hoped that the Exponent air forces would have arrived en masse to press the assault. Instead she was left with opening up on the 70 Su-30 and giving the bombers time to circle back and retreat, or absorbing some damage and luring the bombers closer. She hesitated for less than a second, deciding to let the incoming Tu-22s receive fair warning – by watching their comrades in the Su-30s be torn to shreds. The general nodded to Walter.

Walter immediately hopped on the radio to the rest of the fleet. Almost instantaneously the destroyers which had clustered near the Foothold (see post number 69) loosed their air defences. The armored box launchers on the decks of the destroyers spat angrily skyward and some of Otares finest ship to air missiles raced towards the Su-30s. Each destroyer had four box launchers containing eight missiles. Ten of the destroyers fired – putting eighty missiles up, more than enough.

The other destroyers watched for misses or kills. If the Su-30s managed to avoid one or two missiles the other destroyers would toss more up. Perhaps worst of all the engagement was so quick that the destroyers could fire enough missiles to bring down the Su-30s and re-rack for the encroaching Tu-22s.

As for the Foothold, any Su-30 pilots who were suicidal enough to keep tone on the Foothold – guaranteeing a missile hit from a destroyer – were greeted by anti-missile ordinance. No system was absolutely perfect true, but the lighter ordinance of the Su-30s was mostly destroyed, the rest of it doing little damage to the heavily armored Footholds. All ready repair crews were putting out any fires and running back to cover for the still inbound bombers.

The General for her part watched the massive fleet launching – and the resulting loss of Exponent planes – shaking her head. Looking up she asked.
“What do you think Walter? Now that the Tu-22s know that the destroyers are in range will they continue?”
“I don’t know ma’am it would not be the first hopeless cause we have seen today.”
“No, you’re right. Bring Foothold on board air defences to full readiness. If they want to tangle we are more than ready.”
“Yes ma’am. Just so you know the mobile launchers are tied up with the Cessnas and bombers.”
“I know. It’s probably why they attacked, but the Foothold itself as well as the destroyers should do it.”

With much of the Otariet weaponry focused on the attack on the armor, 10,000 infantry, and about 1,000 armored pickup trucks mounted with either 50 cal machine guns or grenade launchers began making their way towards the footholds.

In the woods, mortar fire began coming down both on the squads that had advanced in, and on the men on shore. there were about 50 mortars all around the area, all firing in rapid succession.

(I assume you are attacking the same foothold that you are bombing. Just remember that while yes there are two Footholds the beaches are on either side of your capital city. I don’t know exactly how large your capital city is but as a comparison London England is 1,579 km². So I am guessing that my Footholds are probably about 200-300 km apart from one another.

And I think the second paragraph here, about the woods, is for Kubra right? If it’s not I am not ignoring it I was merely confused.)

The general looked at even more troops coming in.
“By the saints these people come from no where!” Thinking for a moment she began entering orders into the displays. The reinforcements for the armor column dealing with suicide Cessnas would need to be delayed, they had this to deal with now.

The reinforcements deployed into a defensive position between the Exponent assault and the Foothold in question. The ‘bread basket’ put down its roots and brought its weapons up. There were five pieces of heavy artillery and two mobile launchers. One launcher was prepared for air defense operations, the other surface targets. The five pieces of heavy artillery were self propelled beasts which lugged a 16 inch cannon, whose operational range was almost 25km. The Otariets however waited until 20km, so that they would be deadly accurate.

While this was going on the APCs caught up to the bread basket. The troops spilled from the back and began sandbagging and creating earthworks. They knew that they were the last line of defence and setup nested positions with determination; if the commanders’ predictions were right though they would never need fire a shot.

While this occurred the light tanks and artillery moved to the forward flanks of the position; some three kilometers closer, and 45 degrees off the straight line between the heavy ordinance and the Exponent forces.

The heavy tanks pushed straight towards the oncoming enemy, their order to stop five kilometers out and reverse course. They were to hold at five kilometers and continually fall back. This would keep the tanks at maximum engagement range but hopefully little fire would clear the 5k distance.

That was the plan anyway and when the artillery were in place, light at 17km and heavy at 20km, there was a thunderous roar through out the battlefield as the guns open up. While the tanks were not in position the first barrage saw 75 8 inch shells and five 16 inch shells. Each light artillery piece was in full shoot and scoot mode, popping off a round and moving position. The entire formation rolled about in a large circular pattern to avoid enemy counter fire. These shells came every three seconds. And with 75 units they could maintain a steady pattern of deathly barrage.

The heavier shells came every fifteen seconds. Each shell weighing literally a couple thousand pounds the Exponent troops were peppered with the explosions of the light artillery, and fire stormed with the heavy. With the troops seventeen kilometers out it would take the infantry an hour of this punishment to reach the artillery positions. In that hour the Exponent troops would be on the receiving end of 240 large incendiary rounds and a whooping 1200 shells.

With the shells coming down in such number on so much loose infantry the heavy tank commanders had to wonder if perhaps the Exponent rank and file might break and run before they got their to add to the firing.

(The tanks move at 70kph so to clear 15k, and be in firing range, the tanks need less than fifteen minutes.)

OOC: sorry about all of the confusion. the Cessnas are making a wide circle around the troops, and are not like keeping pace with them. The mortar attack was on Kubra. And yea, I kind of planned on ignoring that nuke.

Blackhorse was getting angry, he was unable to launch a successful attack yet. :headbang: He listened on his radio as the Su-30's were obliterated. He ordered the bombers to change their course, this time headed for the Otariet fleet. He had one more devious plan uphis sleeve. He ordered roughly a thousand small motor boats out to the fleet. the boats all had small rocket launchers, but this was not their purpose. Each one was packed with explosives. They were going in on a suicide mission. Also, with the APC's driving in to escape the kamikaze Cessnas, they were being driven into the line of fire of the infantry, who began opening up with their rpg barrage. The Otariet missiles would not be much of a problem. The newly found Patriot missile batteries came on line, and fired their weaponry at the incoming missiles, while the SCUDs screamed towards their Otariet targets. If any Otariet missile made it past the patriot screen, the ZSU's would come online and open up a barrage at them.
At the Footholds, 300 mortars and a few light artilery pieces began opening up on the defenders of the footholds, as the thousands of infantry, and their truck support began their rush to the beach head, covered by heavy rpg fire, with every man hurling grenades out in front of him, then taking out their ak's and opening fire

The Otariet tanks were now being drawn closer to the TWP infantry as they attempted to flee the Cessnas. The infantry opened up their initial rpg attack, which was followed by the troops launching a salvo of mortar rounds into the tanks, than an attack from an MLRS unit that was dragged along with the infantry. 5 Cessnas over the infantry broke formation to dive into the Otariet formation with their countrymen.
At the airbase, the SCUD launchers began to reload, and now had their missiles aimed for the fleet. They launched this new volley, hoping to lay into the fleet before the ships could reload all of their guns.

"hit the dirt", men shouted. Men were all scrambling for cover in foxhols. 19 artillery guns were destroyed. However, the mortars only made dents in the tanks. Mortars are generally not the best for anti-tank combat. Although, the men were veberable. 100 men died in the mortar shelling.

The sqauds sent in the jungle scrambed into bushes. another squad and a half was obliterated in shelling. Of course, their own guerrillas were in the forest. They must have not meant much to them. The people left started edging out of the forest, One man was injured, though. "let them get me", he said to his comrades. They nodded sadly and continued to retreat. The injured man stowed away his pistol, waiting for the guerrillas to get him.

about 3 dozen guerillas began firing their ak-47's at the Kubrans. They charged out of the jungle, knowing they would die. each one threw 2 hand grenades before he drew his ak. They fired at the kubrans for roughly 5 minutes, before pulling back into the dense jungle. Mortar rounds continued screaming into the Kubran forces. A number of shells were focused at the crippled Daring. 3 Katyushas were also in the jungle, and the too began firing at the Kubran troops

Only 3 men who were sent in the jungle survived. The survivors had injured limbs, too. The Kubrans outside the forest shot as much as they could at the guerrillas. When they retreated, artillery flared up. They fired 3 salvos each, then stopped. The tanks rolled into the forest, knocking down trees. They shot rounds and rounds into the empty forest, then reatreated.

The Daring was not badly hurt. Ships are generally more armoured than tanks. However, many patched up holes split open again. That would mean extra work if they lived. because msot men qwere below decks, not many got hurt. However, 10 seamen on deck died.

OOC: Kubra, how many men are on shore right now?

3 more katyushas were brought in, as well as a hlf dozen T-12 anti tank guns. The T-12's released their armament first, smashing into the Kubran tanks. Together, the now 6 katyushas fired a barrage of high explosive rockets at the Daring. Every 3rd rocket was had an air-burst warhead on it, and were exploding over the Kubran infantry. While this barrage was happening, a huge guerilla force charged out of the forest. Nearly 300 men charged at the Kubrans, firing their rpg's and ak's at anything that moved. 4 guerilas took aim at the Darings command bridge, which had already recieved significant damage from the bomb raid. They aimed their rpg's toward it and fired, the 4 rockets, slamming into the bridge and exploding, created a huge fireball. The image inspired the TWP troops to continue fighting, despite the chances of victory being slim. 12 more anti tank guns were being wheeled out, this time in the form of old pak 38 50mm anti tank guns.

OOC: I just remembered that I sent in 100,000 soldiers. Add an extra zero to the end of all my losses with the exception of armour and vehicle losses. Yea, that seemes right. Yea, my losses were a bit godmode-ish. Add the extra zero to the ends of em and that would seem better.

IC: The Kubrans were not taken aback, they kind of expected the attack. The daring was pierced numerous times, but no matter what it could not sink in such shallow water. The air burst missiles were deadly things, killing around 3 thousands troops. Still, the fighting ensued. 30 tank were destroyed, but the reflective armor kept away most losses.

The bridge did not survive. The CO and the crewmen alike burned alive. They screamed for help, yelling in agony and begging for death. The Kubran soldiers heard this. They were not taking such an attack lying down. Volleys of grenades were sent along side anti-tank missiles. Mortars were set up, firing their medium range rounds. The snipers hiding in various place opened fire onto those that seemed to be commanding soldiers. Kubran tanks fired away with their tank guns and 50 caliber machine guns.

Also on the coast of Kubra, a carrier was sent. The place had no air support, so they figured they should send a carrier. They didn't know about the battle going on.

OOC
(Right I don’t want to sound like a whiney bitch but I have a few complaints. Maybe you can clarify for me please.

You keep popping units up from no where; first the infantry and pickups and now these 1000 ships. I don’t mean to nag but I think I would notice these troops. Now really I have no problem with this as there is a certain fog of war that is always present. But I have made repetitive posts about me putting up drones for sensor data. This should give me some response time to deal with your incoming troops.

First the pickups and infantry – which now apparently have artillery support. I spoke about engaging your troops at ranges of 20, 17, and 5 kilometers. With heavy artillery, light artillery, and heavy tanks respectively. Mortars don’t have that kind of range as far as I know. I also made the comment that it would probably take infantry an hour to hump it into direct fire range. I also worked out the math for how many shells that would be. You also make the comment about engaging the Foothold defenders. These, if you remember, were the troops that were headed out to reinforce the armor being hit by your suicide Cessnas. This redirection would keep you a good distance from the Foothold itself. We are, or so I thought, having a battle in Exponent countryside; your forces against mine.

Second the scuds, patriots, and other anti-missile systems. You wheeled them into your base and began setting them up, I have drones in the area. So, as I put in the post, I preemptively struck. I mentioned that it pushed my missile capacity to its limit, but that was the point. The systems of which you speak take time to setup. I fired missiles at incomplete systems, I did not wait for you to make them fully operational before I fired. Being able to realize you are moving troops around like this is why I put so many recon drones up. I’d kind of like this explained, how the sites survived and SCUDs came my way.

Third your Cessnas cannot be a shield for your infantry. I don’t understand how you are doing this. Even is you managed to calculate where a shell was going to land and the parabolic intercept, which is one of those hard nuts that still troubles engineers today, and put a Cessna under it all that would happen would be that a Cessna would be ripped apart by a shell. I cannot see a Cessna being able to take very many shells from a battleship or cruiser. So I guess this is two fold, how are your Cessnas catching my shells and how are they surviving when they do?

Fourth it is not just APCs in that group that the Cessnas divided at. The APCs were following the tanks. Since they were following the tanks they would be the ones hit, as they were last in line. I would’ve preferred if some tanks died instead, considering the loss of life when a full APC goes down, but I had to be fair to you. I said the APCs were last in line so they were the ones that died. That said the front of the line, driving into your infantry, is the heavy tanks. Now please remember that this formation was retreating so an about face, towards you, does not immediately put them into weapons range. And if it does, well my mistake then – I have miscalculated distances. I would need a bit of a recap because I have pictured it wrong then.

Fifth is a bit of a continuation of four. The infantry which are about to engage my troops who just about faced; how are they so able to keep marching forward and firing? Combined cruiser and battleship bombardment has been raining down on them for a long time now. And I am not sure if you have made a single post about it. They seemed to have advanced menacingly towards the target regardless of how much death rains down on them.

Sixth I did launch missiles at all of your Cessnas so even if they were acting as fire support shields how did they not get ripped from the sky when I loosed an AA salvo? I understand the ones which dive bombed me kamikaze style, as they were beyond my means, but how many missiles do I have to launch? I am confused as to why they are still flying with no posts about counter measures, maneuvers, or anything. I would point out that while I realize that not every missile I fire will bring down a plane there does have to be an acknowledgement of it. Countermeasures or something. Give me a reason to fire more missiles, as it is I am simply scratching my head and wondering about the first salvo.

Seventh is the MLRS. You are dragging around a mobile launcher and didn’t mention it? No offense but I think I would’ve reacted a little differently if you had in any previous post mentioned a mobile launcher was cruising around with your infantry.

I am going to hold on the IC post until I get caught up. Sorry to keep bugging you like this but I am a little frustrated because I must’ve gotten lost somewhere. So if you could toss up an ooc post explaining away the above points that would be helpful, thank you.

P.S. If you would prefer to not RP with someone like me I can understand that too. I just want to make sure you are still enjoying me being in your thread.)

OOC: sorry about the confusion, but i will try to make everything a bit clearer. First, The old Workers Party pretty much ran the country, and had troops everywhere. Most of the TWP soldiers are out in various parts of Exponent, and not in the airfield. This would explain why they seem to appear, i should have said they were at a base nearby or something. The guys attacking the Foothold defenders are striking at the foothold on the shore, that was how i had seen it.

Second in post #75, it says they were set up immediatly upon entering the base, and so were operational when you attacked, a SCUD launcher is rather quick to activate and it is based on a vehicle, so its pretty much drive, stop, fire, and the Patriot battery can be assembled rather quickly, because it can pretty much be caried around on a truck, unloaded, and turned on, and a ZSU does not require time to be set up, it only needs to be manned.

Third, the Cessnas are not stopping all of the shells, and are flying in something of a circle above the infantry, catching what they can, and they are pretty much exploding on impact from the shells.

Fourth, as i said before, the TWP has troops everywhere, they came out of a position that was not to far away from the armor. Only the T-55's left from the airbase.

Fifth, the soldiers are moving through a pretty dense jungle, so those copper things have a limited effect, i thought you would have realized that when you posted yourself that you were waiting for the men to come through the forest in post #69. The soldiers are still taking damage, but 30,000 men spread out through a dense jungle is a rather large area to hit.

Sixth is my mistake. I thought you were just shooting at the bombers. As it stands, we will act like all the Cessnas are downed, i apologize for that one.

Seventh, the MLRS is a Katyusha. I meant to put that it was disguised as a troop truck, but i forgot to put that, im sorry about that one to, that was my mistake. Either way, your sensors would not have caught it.

I hope that this clears things up. If you have more questions, I dont have any problem answering them. Sorry about all of the confusion.

"Lets go chubby" the guerilla said in Exponential. they tied his hands behind his back with a belt, and than started to literally drag him through the jungle. After what seemed like hours for the Kubran, they came to a hut. The Kubran was lead inside, where they another man stood. He had a few medals on. Nearly 3/4 of the gueillas were killed. Almost all of them were wounded. They once again fled back into the jungle, leaving the 12 anti tank guns on shore, firing at the Daring and at missile batteries. The men manning the anti tank guns knew they would die, but it would hopefully be for something they believed in.

(Allright thank you I am a bit less confused now.

On the first point I know that you were planning on attacking the foothold directly but I had scrambled reinforcements for the armor column that was dealt the kamikaze Cessna. When I realized that you were making a stab at foot hold the reinforcements were redirected to cut your attack off. It means that my armor is probably going to be raped because the reinforcements are tied up but it also means that you never made it to Foothold.

In regards to the tanks (and point four and five) I guess I had not realized the terrain we were talking about. I should have paid more attention really. I was thinking Afghanistan and you were thinking Vietnam. The mistake is mine but it’s a fair one to make as guerrillas usually get away with shit like this.

Point two. I am a little sketchy about this considering I should have been able to detect them rolling in but you conceded six and as a gentlemen I will concede point two.

Seven makes more sense now, the disguise being a key factor there :P

I will leave out the attack on the foothold until you give your thoughts on the intercept. I figure at the cost of loosing a fair number of the forward tanks it would be tactically and logistically viable to deny you approach, tell me if you agree.)

The motor boats rushed the Otariet navy. Seeing them accelerate madly toward the fleet, and based on the earlier tactics, it was safe to say it was another suicide run. The destroyers for their part simply began throwing anti air missiles skyward to deal with the bombers. The ships maneuvered to reduce the effect that these incoming ships would have, but not to the detriment of their ability to put up a wall of anti-air missiles. Firing their full salvo and racking them up again the ships would bleed the bombers.

While the destroyers maneuvered the released torpedoes towards the encroaching suicide ships. This would not kill them all but it was the frigates job to engage these motorboats. The frigates charged the motor boats, closing the distance rapidly. The frigates fast track guns filled the space between the Exponent and Otares fleet with five inch ammunition, while their twin torpedo tubes filled the clear ocean with high yield warheads.

Naval engagements were always breathtaking displays of aggressive power but with the small Otariet frigates charging the puny Exponent suicide boats one could not help but notice the blood thirstiness of this particular engagement. The Exponent ships drove straight at the fleet with an abandon born of zealotry, while the Otariet frigates rushed the onslaught knowing full well that their small ships were necessary to protect the larger cruisers and destroyer air defense.

When the general realized the utter ineffectiveness of the missile strikes new firing solutions were passed to the battleships. Now both ships were firing rocket aided shells at the base. The shells were simply concussive explosive shells, and they were a bit smaller due to the rocket components, but the battleships were still delivering 1,500lbs explosives into the airbase. In fact with eighteen guns firing in tandem between the two ships approximately six shells a second were striking the base; or as the general thought to her self, 540,000lbs of explosives every minute.

The cruisers for their part swapped out the copper rounds for more traditional dumb fire concussive rounds. While there would be quite a bit more damage to the country side the Otariet were not about to suffer even more losses simply because they were squeamish about ripping a specific section of the jungle out.

As for the ill fated advanced armor column they began to take RPG fire from the Exponent rebels as they all but literally sprung up from the forest. The tanks were by no means helpless and returned fire. The 120t monsters sported two 120mm cannons. And while the true effectiveness of this vehicle was in its ability to lay down a lot of rounds at a good distance it was no slouch at infantry engagement. The tanks charged the enemy infantry, its turret tracking and firing as it went. The formation would take losses from this engagement to be sure, but the Exponent defenders were sure to notice that it took more than a few RPG rounds to stop the Otariet heavy tanks.

The APCs however were another story. As they fled the crashing Cessnas they were fired upon by the RPGs and mortars of the rebels, and suffered for it. While the crew usually survived these encounters, as per the point of the vehicle, sometimes it would take only one or two well placed shots to disable the vehicle. At which point Otariet infantry spilled out the rear of it and used it for cover, it’s machine guns still making it a decent bunker.

The dislodged infantry for their part took to the trees. Scattering into small groups of 4-9 the men fanned out and went to ground. They salvaged what they could from the APCs. This meant that some were sitting in sandbagged positions with anti-tank rifles and machine guns. Others made it out with only their gear and rifle. And worse yet some never made it out at all.

Meanwhile back at the fleet SCUD missiles were coming down. As they passed over the Foothold, to reach the fleet, the good majority of them were brought down by Otares’ own anti-missile systems. By the time the SCUDs got to the ships they were few and far between, no match for the naval anti-missile systems themselves; systems which operated separately from the ships offensive capacity. The Otariets grimaced at how close the SCUDS were coming now and knew that the missile systems were a last resort. What’s worse if the battleships did not destroy the SCUDS soon in bombardment the defense would begin to fail. The missile defense was an overworked system. It spewed so much ammunition into the air so quickly it was prone to overheating and jamming. While the systems performed like perfection for a couple of operations it became much more problematic with wear.

OOC: Otares, how much ammunition and weapons does your fleet have, you are bombarding an airbase, firing at infantry, shooting down bombers and SCUDs, and defending against 1,000 motor boats. Isnt your fleet a bit overworked?

As the first shells began to rain down into the base, Blackhorse ordered the whole base evacuated. He sacrificed all of the bombers and other planes still on the runway, and pulled his men back to the outpost captured in the outbreak of the war. Nearly 2/3 of the Patriots had to be abandoned, because they could not be packed up fast enough. Most of the SCUDs had gotten away, but still a number of them were destroyed in the hail of naval artillery.

OOC: so hes a fat guy

"Lets go chubby" the guerilla said in Exponential. they tied his hands behind his back with a belt, and than started to literally drag him through the jungle. After what seemed like hours for the Kubran, they came to a hut. The Kubran was lead inside, where they another man stood. He had a few medals on. He was an ex-Imperial major, but he turned against the army and joined the TWP. He looked at the POW. "What is your name?" he asked in perfect Kubran The man merely smirked. "What's it to you", he sneered. The gunwas quite uncomfotable. Rahter, it seemed to dig in. His smirk changed to a grimace.

OOC: Your cannons only shoot 1 round before needing to be loaded again, right?

OOC: Yep, its only got 13 rounds per minute

The major pistol whipped the Kubran soldier, then spit into his face "I do not like you, or your kind. You have no business here. Now I will ask you again, what is your name?" As he said this, one of the guerillas took out a battery, and attached a wire to it. He than cut one end of the wire off, so sparks began coming out, and walked toward the POW. "We dont like playing games here in Exponent" the major said.

The cannons they were using only fired 1 round before it needed to be loaded. Therefore, only 12 batteries were destroyed. They had only 40 though, so it was a considerably harsh loss. The rest of the missile batteries left fired at the anti tank guns. The machine gunners followed suit. 200 men died, inluding 30 seamen. There were 300 wounded, both minor and serious. By minor we mean maybe even just scratchs because the person was clumsy and fell. Serious as in ripped up guts and might not live.

"Soldiers sign unbreakable contracts", Lucien said. OOC: what a thoughtful guy.

The guerilla put a bag over the corporals head, and tossed him in a truck. they drove for a bit until the truck came to a stop, and the bag was removed from Lucien's head. He was in a village, defended by an SAM site on one side, and a small earthwork wall surrounding the whole place. There was a number of injured guerillas at the base, as well as about 15 armed guards. A radio tower was over in the northwest corner. Mortar and artillery positions were all around the village, and Lucien could see the shells come up from the dense treeline, and arc towards the beach. In the village, it was relativly peacful. The mortars were just far enough that you could not hear them fire, only see the shells. Lucien was lead to a little bamboo prison, and thrown in with 5 other people, 3 of them were former Imperial soldiers. The other two were just villagers.
On the beach, mortar and artillery was falling, but only lightly. It was not enough to do much, but it was able to keep the Kubran force off balance

He then lead the group through the jungle, an dup a steep rocky hill. One of the Imperial men fell, and almost lost a mortar. the guard hit him twice in the face with the butt of his rifle. The Imperial, face bleeding, still managed to get up. It was obvious his nose was broken. The group trudged along up the hill. At the top, a group of 8 guerillas stood around, waiting for the mortars. The group was very lightly armed. One man had an old bolt action rifle. a few others had some handguns. They obviously were not expecting to get in a firefight. At the top of the hill, the Imperial with the broken nose collapsed.

OOC: Otares, how much ammunition and weapons does your fleet have, you are bombarding an airbase, firing at infantry, shooting down bombers and SCUDs, and defending against 1,000 motor boats. Isnt your fleet a bit overworked?

(The fleet of cruisers is the ones firing at the infantry positions. There are 45 ships so not all of them are shelling at once. The ones who are not shelling are being re-supplied by ammo ships.

The battleships were firing incendiary rounds. And have now switched to rocket guided long range rounds. There are only two battleships but between the 18 guns there are literally thousands of rounds between. Some AP, some incendiary, some dumb fire kinetic, a half dozen nuke shells, some long range rocket guided rounds etc. They were firing at the infantry and are now firing at the base, with first incendiary and then rocket guided rounds.

The one’s engaging the bombers are destroyers. There are 30 destroyers with 4 boxes of missiles. Not all the missiles were fired to take out the fighters. They had time to re-rack for the bomber wave. So with a full compliment the destroyers can toss up 960 missiles and can fire three times before they are depleted. 1 in box and 2 re-racks.

The missiles were predominately brought down by the Foothold defense systems, but each ship has an independent missile shield system which can work regardless of what else the ship is doing. The cruisers themselves have the missile shield, a fast tracking projectile launcher, and an anti-missile missile system – as the cruisers are the work horses of my fleet.

As for the motor boats they are being engaged by the Frigates, there are 60 of them. They were pretty much maneuvering about until the motor boats showed up.

I know that I am not invincible, and I am sorry if I seem that way. But the way I figure it I have military superiority in a lot of areas. I am going to loose some frigates now because of these suicide motor boats and because of my cockiness I am going to loose quite a bit of this forward detachment. My only real hope is for them to hold on long enough for some semblance of a rescue. I have more military hardware than you. The only way you will be turning me back is by superior tactics, like the tank ambush.

As an FYI I am impressed I should not have lost it, but unless you slip up like I did I can’t see good things for these troops.

So I guess to answer your question. My fleet is feeling the pressure yes, but nothing I have posted is beyond a reasonable expectation.)

The general nodded; enthused that her opponent was retreating from the base that was giving her so much trouble. She was about to order the reallocation of some tasks, to give her the kind of presence needed to quash the motor boats, when Walter chimed in.
“Ma’am we have reports that most of the SCUDs and some of the patriots are falling back to another base.”
“What? Damn!”
“Orders ma’am?” The general stopped and thought hard about what she was going to do with this latest development. If she allowed the enemy to simply reposition itself they would merely begin firing again and the missile shields would not prove 100% effective under a sustained barrage. And if she did not intervene in the naval situation then ships would go down.
“Dammit Walter track their position. Have one turret (three guns) follow their path, have the other five bombard the base they are retreating to (fifteen guns).”
“Yes ma’am.” And with that the rocket guided 1,500lbs explosive rounds began tearing into the fallback position of the true workers.

At sea, the motor boats were taking a beating. The whole fleet focused their rocket launchers on the bridge of the lead frigate. They all could not miss. The very first motor boat collided with a frigate, explodong and tearing a massive hole in the ship.

With no reallocation of forces the frigates and the motor boats were left to each other’s throats. A thousand missiles lit above the ocean towards the lead frigate. The missile shield of that and the nearest frigates put up a valiant effort but brute force sometimes cannot be denied. The frigate did not even get a chance to capsize as the missiles incinerated most of the ship, sending its innards upwards and outwards. While Otariet frigates were sturdy little vessels this one went down with all hands.

The first suicide ship collided with the frigate. The explosives on board the motorboat ripped apart the armor belt. The ship listed wildly, taking on water. Some of the deck crews had been killed in the explosion, others thrown into the ocean. The ships bilge pumps activated and replacement crews raced to the decks. The ship was in a bad spot but the bridge crew sought to keep her afloat by bring her into the current. Without the waves it was possible that the pumps might be able to keep her afloat. This mean that the ship could no longer keep its torpedo tubes points at the enemies and that the surrounding frigates would surpass it. But the valiant ship would list and continue to fire its guns. With so many motor boats there was always a target.

At the Otariet armored column, the mortar fire increased in frequency, and hand grenades and rpgs were flying out of the jungle toward the tanks. Explosions tore threw the trees, sending dozens of guerillas flying through the air. Body parts were flying everywhere. The Katyusha was raining down 25 high explosive rockets every few minutes. Every 5th rocket was an air burst, exploding over the Otariet soldiers fleeing their burning APC's.

The best way to describe the Otariet forward position was – cluster fuck. The Exponent bombers still flew above, harassed by the machine guns on the APCs. But while this occurred the APCs were being raped by the airbursts and RPG fire. Troops would spill out of the APCs, bunker down, kill some guerrillas, and then the closest guerrillas and dozens of Otariets would die in a fiery airburst.

Even the tanks were taking losses now. They knew that their only hope was a charge to the Katyusha. Or more specifically they needed to get within five clicks of the Katyusha. Then they could stop the rockets which devastated their position. This, however, meant that the armor was now separate from the APC position. Guerrillas were sure to surge in behind the tanks and the APCs would be pinned down but they would be obliterated if that Katyusha was left in operation. The tanks for their part barreled along firing rapidly. With so many guerrillas there always seemed to be a target – be it for two main cannons or the mounted machine guns. And while their numbers dwindled, rapidly, they would be able to push to the Katyusha.

While the first group of attack choppers went after the Otariet drones, 2 more choppers went off to the Otariet armored column. The choppers had plenty of rockets on board, and were prepared to do some damage to the tanks on the ground.

With the appearance of the choppers the chances of the tanks’ success were cut. The choppers missiles began to rip the tanks apart. The tanks to their credit kept on with the push to the Katyusha, their machine guns now pointed skyward trying to bring the choppers down. This ill-fated incursion fought like devils as they tried to hold on to what was obviously a losing battle. If the Exponent troops kept up the onslaught the tank commanders could not see themselves continuing for much longer. That said if they could only be reinforced this battle would be very different. The only consolation to these men was that the cruisers bombardment still came down. Maybe, just maybe, this bombardment would break the rebels before the ambush broke the Otariet.

As for the other choppers they would find that drone hunting was not that simple. While not armed the drones had the RADAR profile of medium to large bird and it emitted no heat. Worst of all, for the Exponent forces, the drones seemed to have a cruising speed much in excess of what it was exhibiting. The drones would scan at one cruise, and maneuver at another. While dedicated search patterned brought the drones down easily enough they were quickly replaced by launches at the coast. In fact the Otariets increased the number of drones in the air – as the general merely grimaced at the requisition forms she would need to later fill out.

Blackhorse smiled upon hearing that the tanks were driving towards the Katyusha. "Order all of the mortars to focus on the APC's. And get 3 more choppers up there. And you know what, lets end this quick. Fire some SCUD's at the armor position" With that said, almost 1500 mortars turned their fire on the APC's, raining death on the Otariets. The Ka-52's flew out of the base to assist the other choppers in destroying the tanks. about 50 SCUDs were armed up, and launched their rockets at the Otariets, lending some more firepower to the mix. The guerillas in the jungle saw the armor begin to leave the APC's, and took this to their advantage. They began to surround the tanks as they drove throught the jungle. RPG and AK fire began smashing into the tanks from all sides, as the tanks were now entirely surrounded. Suddenly, a report came from a scout on shore. He radioed in that he had seen the battle ships open firee, and the new base was probably the traget. Blackhorse immediatly ordered the ZSU's to spit out a lead wall, hopefullt screening some of the devastation from the barrage.

At the sea battle, motor boats were getting blasted out of the water left and right. Still, they kept on launching rocket after rocket. The damaged ship was now being circled by the motor boats like a wounded animal circled by sharks. The motor boats were blasting at its bridge with their rockets. Finally, one of them dove in, blasting another hole into the damaged ship. All around, the boats smashed into frigates, tearing huge gaps. Rockets were smashing into Otariet frigates, causing further damage. Out of a small fishing village, about 20 torpedo boats were assembled, and they too would join the sea battle, hopefully adding to the chaos.

The APC position was non-existent. The vehicles were all disabled or destroyed, and the few remaining Otariet infantry had gone to ground. Hopping to wait out the combat the Otariet infantry were hiding in fox holes, up in trees, or fleeing on foot.

The armor advance was devastated as well. The formation was lost and it was a rag tag grouping of a few dozen tanks that still managed to push towards the rocket vehicle. The fire from the rebels was less constant now, with few targets to shoot at. The tanks were also putting a fair amount of distance from the initial engagement site. As much as the rebel cross fire hut, it was nothing in comparison to the SCUD volley which tore the tanks apart.

The heavy tanks for their part were impotent against the bombers and at a disadvantage to the helicopters. However, as soon as they were within 5k of the Katyusha though they would be able to exact some semblance of vengeance.

The frigates at see were acquitting themselves admirably, but the missiles were starting to take their tolls. The missile shield system got more and more ineffective as it heated up. While the frigates were in close quarters for overlapping protection it was not a perfect plan.

Impacts, spread across the forward line of the ship, began to become more frequent. The ship damaged earlier saw another motor boat slam into the hull on the same side as the existing wound. This capsized the frigate, which saw most of its crew abandon ship. This frigate was out of the fight,

Other frigates were taking suicide strikes now as well. The fleet tried to circle about its wounded members in response. It was obvious that they were not going to get away with a zero casualties engagement, but by spreading the hits out equally over the ships it was hopped that they could avoid losing another vessel. This meant that most ships would need time in dry dock, but harm reduction was the strategy here.

It seemed odd to Otariet command that fishing boats were being launched into this mess, but there were other things to be worrying about. Unbeknownst to the Otariets the fishing boats were really torpedo boats. With so much confusion in the water the secret would be kept until the first torpedoes were launched.

(OOC Almost didn’t see this one.)

At the assault towards the footholds, the TWP was caught of guard by the unexpected appearance of the Otariet armor. They began to surge toward the tanks, having men to the left and right of them be blown apart.

The TWP found out quickly that the armor was not another unsupported venture, but a fully supported division. The Otariet rocket platform fired rockets which broke apart into more than 400 smaller ordinances, each one large enough to disable a lightly armored vehicle. The TWP trucks being the primary target here.

While these guided rounds came down with stunning precision the light artillery’s dumb fire rounds peppered the TWP position with a constant rain of dumb fire rounds. The country side itself was being mulched, one could only imagine what was happening to the people standing on it.

This was of course accompanied by the much larger explosions of the five heavy artillery positions.

The heavy tanks began rolling crossways at ninety degrees from the TWP infantry, with some tanks falling behind. The tanks had a much larger engagement range than the rag tag TWP. So this shifting fall back maneuver saw the tank formation fall back, trying to keep the TWP at about 4.5 km from the lead tanks.

(Ah, just wondering because the light artillery was engaging from 17km out, with the tanks trying to keep at 5km.)

OOC: they hav M 120's, so almost 7k

The mortars were laying down some fire, but before the artillery was set up, it was all blown apart. The Guerilla line finally broke, and after inflictng only minor damage with their mortars, the force pulled back into the deep jungle.

Meanwhile, at sea, the torpedo ships finallly got thrown into the fighting, and each launched 2 torpedos. 40 torpedos were now also bearing down on the Frigates. The torpedo boats were reloading, and preparing for another volley

The general looked at the screaming sonar signatures of the active torpedoes.
“Shit.” The deception was a good one and it left her with little options. The frigates possessed some anti torpedo counter measures but it was the rapid speeds and maneuverability that allowed the frigates to out maneuver them. So the general was left with a choice. She could order the frigates to deploy counter measures and stand ground, or maneuver. If the maneuvers were initiated hot torpedoes would be careening towards the rest of the fleet, devastating the destroyers air defense capabilities. Wincing the General knew she could not allow that. “Order the frigates to deploy counter measures and give them the leeway to maneuver, but they aren’t to allow any through.” Watching the frigates on screen report their orders being received she pounded her fist into the table holding her tactical console. “DAMMIT!”

Taking a stride that turned her 180 degrees her eyes burned into her XO. “Walter. Prepare some transport helos. I want every fishing village within 50 km of the capital secured. NOW.”
“Aye ma’am.” Walter took to figuring the logistics out. He knew that it was going to be a strain to open another front on the coast but the General was not in a kidding mood.

Back at the frigates it was anarchy. The countermeasures were in the water but that was about all that could be done. With so much churr in the water SONAR was limited at best. The frigates activated scramblers to mask their own signatures as well. Beyond that the countermeasures launched made noises that were indistinguishable from the frigates. Moreover they gave off rapid active SONAR pings.

Forty torpedoes make quiet an explosive mess in a small section of ocean. Torpedoes struck motorboats, counter measures, and frigates. Torrents of water shot upwards hosing down decks, while other explosions tore the armor belts out of the frigates.

The worst of the crisis was averted to be sure but four frigates went down with several other taking direct hits. The damaged frigates listed and tried to pump the water out. Some worse than others, at least two were dead in the water and out of this fight. Otariet CnC made notes of pick up spots and damage assessments. The radio waves crackled with the frantic buzz of encrypted comms – all brought on by the torpedo attacks.

Taking in the scene the General looked to Walter.
“Walter is the forward position a write off?”
“Well ma’am if we can get some reinforcements out there we might be able to…” Walter trailed off, he knew what the general wanted. “Yes ma’am. The position is unsalvageable without massive reinforcement which we cannot muster rapidly enough.” The general nodded. She knew how hard what Walter just admitted was.
“It is my call Walter.”
“Yes ma’am.”
“Do it.”
“How many?”
“Twenty five. We will sustain the bombard with the other twenty.”
“Aye.” With that twenty five of the cruisers disengaged from the bombard mission.

Leaving that formations and cruising to the rear of the frigates the cruisers re-racked from surface missiles to sea missiles. Some ships were faster than others but the cruisers let off terrifying roars as missiles leapt from the decks. Both vertical launch and box launched missiles flew from the ships.

Cruisers were beefier ships and possessed 6 armor boxes of eight missiles. The four vertical launch systems fired larger missiles. The vertical launch missiles were designed to deliver ordinance to some hefty targets. With no such target existing they air burst over the torpedo boats. 100 missiles launched at various intervals exploded thirty feet over the makeshift torpedo boats.

Any torpedo boat left after the airburst was immediately picked up by the box launched missiles. These were targeted one per boat – at both the torpedo boats and the suicide boats. At 8 missiles, in 6 boxes, on 25 ships; a total of 1200 missiles acquired Exponent targets marked hostile.

The general watched the impressive launch impassively. She knew that the cruisers would make quick work of the naval engagement but she knew that the forward position was all but a loss now. She only hoped that the remaining 20 cruisers would make the TWP pay dearly for their assault.

Meanwhile the decks of the freighters were alive with activity. They were preparing the transport Helos for assaults on the fishing villages. It was not so much an assault as it was a deployment. Every fishing village within 50km of the capital would have a contingent of Otariet troops put into it. It was hopped that the TWP would not engage, Otares would not fire first. But by the one true God the general vowed to herself. If the villages wanted to act like military supply depots then they would get treated like them.

(OOC I don’t think I need to describe the flight of the Helos to the villages. They are obviously going to avoid the trouble spots en route. The only question is if the villages get hostile when the transports arrive.)

This seemed like the perfct opportunity to grab some guns and run. He waited for the other imperial men, including the one with a broken nose, to set down their mortars. Lucien pretended to inspect something, then pretended to trip. The trigger on the gun jiggled a bit and nearly fired, but it just barely held. He rolled into a better position and hoped the guards would fall for his ruse and collect him.

OOC: how many men are going to each village?

Blackhorse listened to his radio. "Those men died for the cause, and they did their job well" he said when he heard about the naval defeat. Apparently all of his makeshift fleet was wiped out.

There were 17 villages in this area. As the first helicopter came into a little village known as Angel Harbor, the TWP appeared to be in control of the village. As soon as the chopper passed just overhead, a TWP soldier came out of a hut on the water, and fired a RPG, hitting the chopper in the tail rotor. As the chopper began going down, 5 more TWP men jumped into a pickup truck and started driving to the site they expected the helo to go down.

Along the coast, far away from Angel Harbor, 5 boats were bobbing peacefully in the waves. The back of the boats had a large tarp covering something. It became soon apparent what they were covering. A number of men peeled off the tarp, revealing an HY-2 missile on each boat. The missiles would probably be shot down, but there was always the chance that the over worked anti missile system would failm and they would hit a cruiser. All 5 missiles were targeted at the same cruiser, and the men prayed 1 might somehow hit it.

At the ambush on the armored incursion, the Ka-52's began mopping up the remaining tanks, and a few mortar positions began to open up on the tanks trying to flee.

OOC: Ladies and gentlemen, for your (not so) enjoyment... the Black Reich... we're back, and we're badder than ever...

IC:

Shadow Soldier Freydan looked through the scope of his anti-material rifle... the sudden assault by the enemy forces a while ago had crippled a significant Reichan supply line, forcing Reichan forces to consolidate, dig in, and essentially watch from a distance as the other forces began their own little proxy wars all around. It had been somewhat of a significant embarrasment at home as well, and the politiking that had occured since had further hindered any rekindling of the Reichan offensive... but now, the bickering was over, the Reichan supplies were now duly defended, and a new respect had developed for the enemy forces...

That didn't however stop the complete purging of any rebels within Reichan territory... the concentration camps had been proof enough of that... as was the simple wooden crosses with the words 'TRAITOR', 'COMMUNIST' or 'REBEL' written on them, and a date of death.

Freydan didn't care about that, all he cared about was the removal of his enemies. The fact that he was, in fact, dressed in one of his enemies uniforms didn't faze him either... it merely let him do his job that much easier.

He was one of the best Reichan troops available... he was a Reichan Assassin, the best of the best...

Freydan before he headed out on task.
http://www.theregiment.ca/kevinch2.jpg

He lined up the rebel commander ahead, this man, the one responsible for organising the embarassing assault on Reichan supply lines, was to be removed from service as an example, and as a message to all invovled... the Reich was ready to roll, and its war machine - this time, was not about to stop...

He pulled the trigger, and time felt as if... for a split second, it had stopped...

By now the 1st Imperial Army has swelled to nearly 700,000 men, and was equipped with almost 70,000 T-72 tanks, 10,000 XM-1 tanks, and its airforce now had 3,000 Mustangs, 1500 T-22 bombers, 1500 MiG 29's, and 800 Su-30's. The force was supported by a massive force of Ka-52's and Mi-24's. The massive surge of nationalism swept the country, allowing this massive construction to take place. Many more men, vehicles, and planes were expected to be produced soon. They even had imported a new assault rifle, the devastating phoenix militia AR-22A3. This force was ready to throw the Black Reich out of Exponent, and hope that Otares and Kubra would deal with the insurgency.

The Imperial Airforce launched nearly 600 bombers over the Reichan army, with almost 800 Mustangs and 400 Su-30's. This was the prelude to a massive ground war.

From Chancellor Blackhelm
To Leaders of Kubra and Otares

We are forever indebted to your nations for your aid in this war. Although we now have an army capable of defending itself, we urge you not to give up. The army is new, and untrained. It will be entirely incapable of dealing with the insurgents and the Black Reich. We beg that you keep your forces here to combat the communists. The fate of Exponent is in your hands. We hope you will choose to stay. We will be forever grateful, and will seek to form alliances with both nations, and establish embassies in both nations.

As foreign support came in for both ends of the conflict, the war has shifted away from an embattled war with the insurgency to a full-scale battle against Black Reich."

"I dont like em, not one bit. Those dirty rotten back stabber are gunna get whats commin to em. Minutes earlier, Imperial General Blueshield had ordered a masssive missile attack on all Reichan AA and air fields. 700 SCUD missiles were launched at those positions. On top of this, the General wanted to make the Black Reich people pay for their intrusion. Another 300 high explosive SCUDs were fired at Black Reich cities.

Moments before the missile firing, Chancellor Blackhelm appeared on TV.
"Government of the Black Reich, we know of your treachery. We are aware that you had planned to conquer our land, under the guise of sending in peacekeepers. It is not to lae to save the lives of your people. Our missiles have all been equipped with a transmitter, allowing me to destroy them in flight. It is not to late to pull out of Exponent."

(Hey no time for a full IC post but a quick question [there will be something up tonight probably]

The imperial army is importing weapons as well as ramping up production. [post 143] so I was just curious as to how much time had passed. I was under the impression that the TWP and I were in a heated battle that had only been going on for less than an hour. But it looks like you’ve just done a production drive and draft. I only ask because it would only take a couple of days for the Footholds to be fully operational. Moreover I would be able to bring more forces into the theatre from Otares proper. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind seeing some of the other guys hit brick walls too [sorry Reich :P ] but I was just looking for clarification before I put up a post.)

It has been 3 days. The weapons imports were done via supersonic jets, the tanks were given 2 us by other countries (i dont no wher that post is, but it was an old one i posted when i first started in NS, and the factories were pumping along on the assembly lines to make duplicates) and the troops were increased not by draft, but because the original Workers Party merged with the Imperial Army. The guerillas are the True Workers Party, a hardcore sect of the original rebels. The TWP was only formed after day 2. So the fighting seen by Otares and Kubra have seen has only gone on for about a day.

In three days I could bring in 40,000 heavy tanks, 20,000 light tanks, 120,000 light artillery, 3,400 heavy artillery, 2,210 mobile launchers, 100,000 infantry, 35,000 jeeps, 5,000 APCs, 100 transport ships, hundreds of CnC and support vehicles, several hundred spec ops teams, a few hundred bombers, thousands of strike fighters, a couple dozen thousand interceptors, a handful of attack planes, a hundred attack helicopters, 1,000 transport Helos, and a few hundred CnC + Support aircraft.

On top of additional deployments I could’ve swapped out the damaged ships, launched several offensives, the status of those 17 villages would be determined, and resolved the issue with Divinity.

So should I assume that the numbers posted are the announcement of the timeline and I should fill in the blanks? We would keep RPing at the same pace and working towards that post. The only problem with that is that our actions might affect the out come and thus those numbers.

Perhaps we should speak with one another on MSN so that we can collaborate on a single large post that takes into account all three days?

Or any other suggestion I am forgetting. What are your thoughts?)

OOC: Okay, here we go :sniper: FIGHTS ON!

IC:

The SCUD missiles raced in and slammed throughout Reichan areas of operations, many were shot down by the excellent Reichan air defence systems, yet the sheer numbers of missiles, almost a thousand in all, rapidly ate through the more proficient air defence systems, forcing the remaining missiles to be engaged by the radar directed AA guns...

http://centurychina.com/plaboard/uploads/Anti-Aircraft_fire3.jpg

While a majority of the missiles were engaged, a large number still made High Tyrant Caldmoore wince as each loud explosion represented another missile that penetrated...

"Marshal, ready our response, prepare the Godhammer missiles, and get the Heaven's Arrow systems into range... all of them... they want to engage in war..."

Tyrant Caldmoore's voice was cut short as one rocket suddenly slammed into the building he was in. He was flung from the window he was looking at and lay crumpled on the floor.

After a few moments, he stirred and picked himself up off the floor. The Marshal he had been talking to did not stir, a pool of blood slowly forming around him...

"IF YOU WANT WAR! THEN BY GOD YOU... WILL... HAVE IT!" He roared.

"Fire more missiles!" General Blueshield yelled. "Hit whatever airfields are left, and find and destroy their missile silos too!" On that order, all of the SCUDs were reloaded, and started firing thier payload once more. "Start throwing up some of those new anti-satellite fighters too, whatever destroyed Grand Army Square has to be a devastating weapon. Make sure all Patriot systems are online as well." Hundreds of Patriot anti-missile systems from before the war were now becoming active, and these, combined with the AAD-1 anti aircraft baloons already in place made a quite effective missile shield. Meanwhile, the 1st Imperial Army fianlly made first contact with Reichan troops, the XM-1 battle tanks unleashing a deadly volley into the enemy.

300 T-8 sprite light tanks, purchased from the phoenix militia raced ahead of the army, and directly engage the Reich first line, while they are still supported by the XM-1 fire. The XM-1's and T-72's were rolling along, only a half hour behind the sprites. 500 anti sattelite missiles, also purchased from phoenix, were launched into the sky to disable the fearsome heavens arrow system. Meanwhile, overhead, the Mustangs were wreaking havoc on Reich armor, while the SU-30's attacked supply lines and Tu-22's bombed anti aircraft positions and mopped up on the airfields that the SCUDs did not hit. The wave after wave of SCUD missiles was devastating to the Black Reich. Nearly every half hour, almost a thousand missiles were screaming into Reich territory, and with more and more AA being destroyed, the damage to Black Reich was increasing. Chancellor Blackhelm made another announcemnt to the Reich leaders.
"Tyrant Caldmoore, we strongly advise you to pull your soldiers out of the nation of Exponent. If you have any compassion for your people's lives, you will pull out of my nation. We still have detonators on our missiles, and if you wisely choose to pull out, the next wave wil detonate harmlessly in the sky. The guerilla began swimming to the Otariet dingy. He was pulled aboard without question and tossed an emergency blanket. As soon as he began looking around the Otariet officer on the raft spoke to him in the Otariet native tongue. A tongue which, while Slavic in origin, has had four centuries of isolation to develop and mingle with the tongue of the Otariet natives. Otares, a totalitarian state with little to no outside contact with the rest of the world for centuries, could count on one hand how many foreigners had heard the Otariet speak their language. (OOC Seriously you can I have been in like four threads.)

(OOC two helos at 20 men each. I will reinforce as necessary. Is Angel Harbour the only one offering resistance?)

Angel Harbor; Codename Villa1

“This is VT1-1 to control we have the village on visual.”
“VT1 this is control we copy. Keep an eye out for trouble – the TWP may have a presence in this village.”
“Roger control we will make a pass over and see if we stir anyone up. VT1-2 come in low and hot. If we take fire you should be able to deploy.”
“Roger VT1-1 we copy. VT1-2 is ready for ops.”
“Well VT1-2 careful on the way back out.”
“Phht. You just watch your own ass VT1-1.”
“Roger that.”

The radio chatter was in high spirits as the two choppers raced towards Villa1. VT1-2 dropped low to the ground, its dual propellers throwing up chop from the water. VT1-1 for its part flew un-diverted towards the village.

When the RPG came from the village it was little surprise. VT1-1 took the hit and began to go down – the strain of this helicopter weight was too much for the single rotor. With the two overhead rotor design, however, VT1-1 went down in what the report would later refer to as a ‘rough but fair’ landing. Three men were casualties of the landing: One broken arm, one unconscious, and the third a fatality. The compliment of VT1-1 for its part immediately set to the hike back to the village. Well armed and alert they prepped a stretcher for the unconscious man and setup a radio beacon by the body of the other. The short hike would be little for the trained squad.

VT1-2 for its part watched VT1-1 go down with a grimace. While is was not beyond the realm of possibility to loose transport helos in a deployment it always looked bad. The pilot of VT1-2 spoke a prayer internally while accelerating and hopping on the radio.
“This it VT1-2 to command respond.”
“Command, we copy VT1-2.”
“Villa1 is TWP hot. We have observed one RPG position and one hostile vehicle thus far. The co-ordinates are being sent in now.”

Before the radio conversation was even completed a cruiser in the Otariet fleet had loosed two cruise missiles at the vehicle and the hut. Any new threats were called into command and dealt with similarly.

VT1-2 for its part did not slow until the last moment. In fact the men exited the chopper some ten feet from the ground at almost 30kph. Twenty Otariet soldiers were now in Villa1 with guns up. VT1-2 for its part blew by, trying to exist on a low vector. The Otariets scattered to nearby building for cover.

(If you could describe Angel Harbor a bit for me I would appreciate it.)

Meanwhile the missiles which were coming in on the cruiser now zeroed in on the one which had just launched. The HY-2A was a passive IR missile and this cruiser was the hottest one on the water. When the missiles were already halfway to their target was when the Otariets detected them. The missile shield snapped active but only managed to down three; the other two crippling the cruiser. The ship was damaged badly and would not be able to proceed under its power. The ship was listing and already two frigates were being dispatched back in a tug boat capacity.

The general for her part glared at the tactical display, ordering a ship to ship missile barrage at the perpetrators. It was over kill to be sure but her anger at the TWP at this moment was palpable.

Meanwhile the diverted reinforcements began pushing towards the pockets of survivors. While the tanks and APCs may have been all but inoperable some small groups of troops still lived, as evidenced by drone recon and sporadic radio transmissions. This time the Otariet advance was slower, and well scout by forward drones. Beyond that the lighter tanks moved ahead of the main formation, providing a complete forward hemisphere of detection and engagement.

All the while the Footholds raced to their completion. The busyness here was matched by the work in Otares proper. Airplanes of all sort and function were launched to coincide with the completion of the Foothold airfield. The Otariets were ramping up engagements and other launches of ships and their escorts occurred on Otariet docks.

(OOC do you have any other large coastal cities, or just villages? Any word on that map?)

It is smaller than Paradise, and did not realy have as much fighting, although some was seen.

The guerilla opened his mouth to the Otariet on the dinghy to reveal he bit off his tongue when he was blown off of his boat. Blood stained his shirt. The Otariet would hopefully stop talking to him, realizing he could not speak.

At the boats who fired the HY-2's, the crews began to celebrate, as 2 missiles struck the cruiser, more than they originally expected. This celebration however was short lived, as a massive missile barrge flew into them, leaving no survivors.

In Angels Harbor, The cruise missile blasted apart a hut, killing an elderly couple. The man with the RPG had already ran to go see the crash site. As the other Otariet soldiers began entering the village a machine gun opened up on them from behind a row boat. This signal brought about more gun fire from all sides, as numerous huts now had men armed with ak's firing from them. An rpg came screaming out of a space between 2 huts, blowing up in the dirt, showering the Otariets with soil.

At the destroyed Otariet armor, the first relief tanks began coming in. This caught the attention of the Ka-52 pilots, who radioed the position to the Katyusha. 3 of the Ka-52's had to go back to the outpost to re arm, but the 3 others were still ready to unload on this new detachment. All through the jungle, the mortars were being re supplied by weapons caches in villages all around the area, and repositioned on the new tanks. Light artillery was also now being lugged through the jungle towards the battle seen as well.

The Otariet officer looked at the guerilla and shook his head. He spoke again in his native tongue and put his arm around the guerilla. The officer continued speaking, in what the guerilla could tell was a friendly tone. Not really looking for the man to reply the officer continued speaking in the Slavic intonations as he pulled a medkit out from under his seat. Beginning to pull out some disinfectant and gauss he started to tend to the guerilla’s injuries. It was not until part way through when a syringe was pulled out and a gesture made towards it that the Otariet officer seemed to want some sort of affirmative or negative response.

The soldiers began returning fire on the incoming hostile forces. Some had already taken hits and were being tended to by the medic, but it was offering up resistance that was the primary concern.

As the troops took cover two of the men in the lead pitched a frag grenade into the rowboat. Dropping to the ground they army crawled to cover, trying to stay low.

A female conscript chambered a round into her launcher and began firing, in quick succession, flash bang grenades. The soldiers’ polarized goggles protected them from the bright flashes but anyone with that benefit would be blinded and left nauseated by the brilliant flashes. She fired six flash bangs and dropped to the ground to re-chamber another six.

At the same time the squad left on foot by the downing of VT1-1 began double timing it to help their comrades. It would only be minutes before they were there. Already they were close enough to hear the exchange of gunfire and the explosions.

Back at the Otariet fleet another three Helos and this time two attack helicopters were being prepped to support Villa1. The general looked at the latest tactical report from Villa1. The TWP would be pushed from the ocean there was no question of that. The only question was how many Otariet men and women would die to do it.

The battalion commander snigger at the Exponent forces before him. The TWP had raped an unsupported armor column but a fully supported division was another matter. The mobile launcher popped of a rocket, which put about half a dozen missiles on course for each Ka-52. Even the ones which were now heading back to rearm. The second rocket launched was to intercept the ordinance of the Katyusha. It would be brought down before any harm could be done.

As for the Katyusha itself, having been active for so long it was a brilliant heat signature. This, and the drones overhead, gave the Otariet mobile launcher perfect co-ordinates. (OOC the one set for ground targets.) Another rocket was launched, this payload was however more than four hundred guided bombs. These smart bombs rained down on the Katyusga. The terrain in the area would be liquefied by sheer heat and kinetic force. One could only imagine what would happen to those caught in the blasts.

While all of this went on the cruisers still pounded the Exponent country side, flushing troops out and making any large scale mobilization incredibly difficult. And now with the naval threat having been dealt with the full cruiser force was able to resume bombardment (less one of course). If any mortar team or artillery piece did show its self by firing the position would be swarmed thousands of pounds of ordinance.

OOC: how many people are on the dinghy? and Redemption is Imperial, with a few small cells, seperate from the TWP but still pushing for communism, mostly through terrorist attacks. I forgot to mention there is like 30 little boats floatin around outside the town. They arent armed .... or are they?

Blackhorse realized they would not win here this time. He ordered the troops to retreat. The guerillas melted away, leaving behind the heavier weapons, and mixing back in with society.

In the jungle around the crash site, roughly a dozen guerillas had come out of the jungle and began scavenging the crash site for anything they could use. Meanwhile, the survivors of the crash were now being ambushed on their way to provide reinforcements. A 50 cal and about 12 ak's began tearing through the forest. Also, all along the trail, traps littered the way, the slightest misstep could lead to a grenade swinging out of a tree, chest height, at the offender.

The firing stopped in some areas with the flash bangs, but now it seems that more guerillas from all around the area were pouring in. Otariet drones were picking up massive movement through the forest. Almost 300 men, and 20 pick up trucks were en route to Angel Harbor. The first little detahment from the jungle, 20 men, had already entered the town.

At a small coast guard station aong the coast, the TWP hatched another scheme. There were 3 old wood and canvas bi planes, which the coast guard used to help spot sinking ships. The TWP had different plans. They took the planes, and fit 2 torpedoes to each of them. Soon the planes were in the sky. The Otriet radar was unable to pick the planes up, due to the fact that there was no metal on them. The planes stayed in the clouds till the last moment, before dropping down and loosing their torpedoes at close range of the fleet. The pilots then each picked a ship to crash into, and dove at them, firing their ak's out of the cockpit all the way till the crash.

Lucien motioned for them to stop moving. He oved into the forest, mouthing them to follow. He pointed at trees, then moved his finger upwards to communicate for them to climb the trees. He swapped his pistol for one of the escapee's rifle. Then he climb a tree. He sgook the rifle a bit, just in case there was dust. Then he took careful aim at a machine gunner. He breathed slowly, squeezing the trigger gently. He kept his breathing controlled as he squeezed the trigger harder and harder. Then, he fired.

The machine gunner went down. The rest of the men in the village scrambled for cover. Others began firing into the tree line
