SULTAN CLASS BATTLESHIP

Overview
The 'Sultan' Class Battleship is a design made by Questarian Aerospace Systems Marine for the Al Muslimeen Navy's Imperial High Seas Fleet. The AMN requested a flagship capable of leading their warships into battle, operating as both a potent warship and a good command an control vessel. QAE was contracted for the design and they graciously accepted. The 'Sultan' class is similar to the Vanguard class employed by the Questarian Royal Navy and shares many design similiarities, from guns to engines. It even uses Questarian electronics. The design was to be submitted to the Al Muslimeen Navy by QAE within eight months, and if it was approved QAE would sell the design to the AMN for further construction within the Khailfah.

Weaponry
Guns
The main armament of the 'Sultan' Class are the three main barbetted turrets - each turret contains a pair of Mark 30A 30m rangefinders, and a backup Mark 22A 15m rangefinder for optical sighting of ranges up to 42,100m and 36,000m respectively. Each turret contains three 550mm, 62 cal main cannons which are precisely 34.1 metres in length. Each cannon can be elavated from -3 degrees to +45 degrees for a maximum range of 110,251m with rocket assisted shells. Ammo feeds from the turret and the barbette magazine provide each gun with 100 shells. The turret face is protected by 650mm of HSLA steel and the barbettes by 800mm of HSLA steel. The three turrets are designated A,B and X turrets. Each is RADAR controlled by three Mark 94A Gun Control RADARs capable of scanning and locking targets using frequencies operating at 300 MHz.

In addition, fourteen dual turrets for the 155mm dual purpose cannon are mounted on the ship, six port, six starboard, and two aft. These guns can be elavated from -5 degrees to +80 degrees and are used to shoot down missiles and aircraft using specialist airburst rounds. Each turret holds 240 shells in its magazine. The shells range from airburst rounds to armour piercing shells for anti shipping work. They are controlled by the Mark 97B Gun Control.

Furthermore, eight 'Sea Shield' class six-barreled-35mm close-in-weapons-system chainguns are located around the ship. They can track twenty targets at a time at engage at ranges around 1300m. Each gun can kill a pair of missiles before impact. They are controlled by the CPDC RADAR sensor and can shoot at up to 4000 RPM total.

Missiles
There are four 96 cell vertical launch blocks, each cell being a metre square and eight metres deep. This provides the 'Sultan' with 384 vertical launch missiles capable of anti air, anti submarine, and anti shipping work. The missiles are controlled by the Mark105A Combined RADAR LADAR InfraRed Missile Director System that can track up to 2,500 different missiles and sixty different ships simultaenously.

Fourteen Hastings sextuple barrelled short range rolling airframe missiles are fitted around the ship. The Hastings is a fast, maneouvrable missile that can reach ranges of 30km to hit incoming missiles and aircraft. They can be fired almost instantly at a moments notice as long as a target is available.

Armour
The 'Sultan' Class uses the Mark A Armour Scheme, [Link] (http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f16/MattShipwrighter/Questers/ArmourSchemeA.png), capable of defeating shell sizes up to and including 600mm and even withstanding the infamous 635mm shell. During tests the Mark A Armour Scheme resisted 11 762mm AP shells to the vertical and 5 762mm AP shells to the horizontal. Protection against subsurface threats is provided in the form of six 'Sea Serpent' anti submarine/torpedo decoys launched from the ship and twelve 533mm CIWS TT. The 'Sultan' is full NBC protected and sealed.
The armour values are as follows:
Horizontal
-450mm HSLA steel
-200mm Titanium/Tungsten layered mix
-200mm Ceramic/Boron/Silicon Composite
-Honeycomb network frame to add extra support for the deck armour and a 60mm thick DS steel layer on top and below to serve as as decapper and a support for snapping bolts, respectively.
Vertical
-600mm HSLA steel
-2x 150mm Titanium/Tungsten layered mix
-300mm Ceramic/Boron/Silicon Composite
-Foam layer
-250mm of HSLA steel behind the main armour layer to serve as extra added support for both structure and armour.

Propulsion and Sensors
The 'Sultan' is propelled by four waterjets, fed through eight shafts and eight pressurised water nuclear reactors that provided 300MW of power each. The power, and the well laid bow of the 'Sultan' and her formly shape allows the vessel to move at 34 knots max speed and 28 knots cruise speed. The main rudder allows the ship to pull a 700m turn and is partially protected by a dropdown layer of unspecified HSLA steel.

The sensors included on the 'Sultan' are:
Type 10 Air Search RADAR
Type 20 Sea Search RADAR
Type 30 Bow-Mounted Sub-Search SONAR
Type 40 General Search LADAR
Type 45 General Search LIDAR
