[This maps out the timeline of the UNSC until my intro, and hopefully will record many events in the future.]
March 30th, 2007 - Scientists working at the Jodrell Bank observatory in the United Kingdom record the first proof of UFO landings on Earth, when a large pyramid-like ship crash-landed in the English Channel. The wreck is taken into the custody of the United nations.
February 15th- September 17th 2010 - The research team in charge of the efforts to work out the alien ship map out and successfully copy many aliens systems such as sophisticated crystal circuitry and a primitive energy shield system. Several FTL engines are discovered, indicating that the alien ship was a fleet tender.
September 18th 2010 - After a record-breakingly speedy meeting of the UN general assembly, the discovery of the new technologies is made public. At 18:30hrs the creation of a 'Star Command' is announced, and a charter drawn up. It is deliberately vague. A ship is commisioned, the UNS Gorman, named after the observatory technician who first spotted the UFO.
April 15th, 2016 - The Gorman is launched. In a horrific tragedy, a ship matching the design of the first UFO attacks and destroys the Gorman, and proceeds to orbitally bombard Europe, Asia and North America. A series of thermonuclear strikes destroys the attacker.
May 12th, 2016 - The UN General Assembly unanimously passes the 'one world' act, establishing the first world-wide government. Star Command is declared the military wing of the new government, headed by Fleet Admiral Wilson (an optimistic title given that UNSC consisted of three ships at the time).
October 22nd, 2016 - Shocking research is released indicating that it is likely that many worlds exist which are identical to Earth, due to a series of shifts between universes that dumped these identical worlds in our Universe. A first-contact programme was initiated, intended to make contact with these 'counter-earths'.
