Former Medical University Chief Charged

Trabia, Shinrita: April 25- Michael Gallagher, former President of The Shinritan Medical University, was charged with Misuse of state funds, 1 count of fraud, 1 count of embezzelment and 1 count of assault against a police officer today at Trabia Supreme Court.

Gallagher, 61, resigned from his position 2 weeks ago and was arrested on April 23. He resisted, but was subdued in his Trabia Heights mansion. He is charged with allocating 750,000 Gold Liras in state funds for scholarship programs at the university, funneling it to personal accounts and using it for personal use. He is being held in Lennon State Penitentiary without bail, and is facing 45-50 years if convicted.

Prime Minister Scott Solari had the following to say, in response to the situation: "I feel sorry for Michael Gallagher's family, that they have to live with the fact that his greed cost many less fortunate Shinritans the opportunity to go on with their futures to become doctors and help keep the great nation of Shinrita healthy. I am repulsed, for his greed jeopardized our national security."

His trial is set for May 2.
