Meaningful Insignificance: the Plight of a Few (FT, Closed, ATTN NoF)

ooc: First off, this is the third time I'm typing this, so its quality has gone down a bit along with its length, sorry.

Second, this is a continuance of a side plot in this thread: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=474516

Third, to the best of Kazeci knowledge, there is no way to track Kazeci jumps. One can, however, look for entry and exit signatures. You're also in the situation of using your leech to find us.

Fourth, BT and Bullet are short for Bullet Transport, the sleek, fast, agile, FTL capable shuttle of Kazecistan.

Ic: Seeing their position to be disadvantageous, they decided to cut their losses and save their asses. A short jump was the only escape that allowed them to keep their internal lock-down procedures operating and flee, so it was chosen. A short, encrypted transmission to the Bullet and the ship vanished in a flash of blue-hued light. Shortly after, the BT followed.

Both reappeared in an asteroid field and quickly brought systems online, the BT landing inside of the destroyer and transferring its passengers to the bridge via the internal transportation system, thus bypassing all of the security measures. Using the stocks in its bays, the vessel produced a new particle cloud and left its entry point via STL drives for better safety. The next move was up to the enemy.

((OOC: Info on the Black egg device. Each soldier is given a device that is about the size and shape of a standard chicken egg. The only difference is that it is a pitch black color. These devices can only be handled by Nofian soldiers. They have genetic recognition of a special gene that is genetically engineered into everyone in the nation. If the device finds a lack of the gene in the person holding it, than it immediatly injects a highly deadly neurotoxin into the person. They have five seconds before irreversible damage occurs to the central nervous system, and eigth seconds till death. Subdermal implants that the Nofians are outfitted with allow interaction with the device while holding it. (The notable exception being Pixious, who has remote control access to her's) The egg device has three types of signals it's sends, one that is a basic tracking signal. A second that is a High distress signal, and is noticable by all passing ships within a fair distance. The final one is a heavily encrypted one that is only sent out upon the death of the owner. The device is made out of an incredibly low friction material, and is near impossible to destroy, due to the fact it more or less slides off of anything that touches it. People are able to hold it due to the fact that it detects the heat signatures presented by a human body, and it presents small needles that dig lightly into the hand.))

The leech drones stopped their swarm, and headed back to the mother ship. Images of the Kazeci ship were an abundance of information, and this was advantageous. The Nofian ship didn't pursue, but rather sent copies of the images to the fatherland.

Information was sold for high prices in the blackmarket, and these images provided more than enough information to determine the ships country of origin. Nofian ships would post in the area, out of tracking range, and send puppet nations trade ships in to moniter the situation, and find the craft if it eluded the Nofian ships again.

A tracking signal was an integral part of every Nofian's suit, weapon, and 'black egg' device. The Kazeci ship didn't know it, but it had more than enough tracking signals for any Nofian ship to follow it to the ends of the universe. The signals were heavily encrypted, and incredibly difficult to track.

Three Nofian leech motherships made for the abundance of these tracking devices, in the middle of an asteroid field.

ooc: Does that last post imply that you've sent three leach motherships? Can I get info on them, looks, power, etc.? Thanks.

ooc: Good that we got everything worked out. Hopefully we'll (I'll) keep it alive from now on...

This should be good, got to love the military rejects with tech against the special forces w/o it. (Not that you don't have tech, but not the same reliance on your ship's tech.)

Ic: One of the many stats that slowly swirled around the holographic pillar in the middle of the bridge started with "Distance from nearest Kazeci territory:" and ended with too many zeros. Hiding was their preference, but that wasn't going to happen. As soon as all was quieted, all was again on alert. Three wails of the battle siren, much like an air raid siren, and the alert tone was turned back to a dull series of beeps. All crew members were at posts, and action was swift. It had been decided that in the event they were followed, they would strike immediately. The incomplete stats previously gathered allowed them to have targets already planned, and this they used to full advantage. Salvage destroyers don't always clean up in the most peaceful of areas, and were equipped with a single HLIC, for emergencies. Heavy Lethal Ion Cannons are the most powerful of Kazeci weapons, not what you'd find on another race's non-com. ship. It was also a one time use thing for them, they hadn't the power of cruisers and couldn't recharge it with any real speed while under attack. They accelerated rapidly toward the nearest ship.

The massive turret turned slightly for aim. The moment it was in range, it came to life as the energy stores were dumped into it, there appeared to be no charge time as they unleashed the seething energy with unparalled force. The turret recoiled with blinding speed and slowly advanced forward again, all the while directing the thick golden particle stream at the belly of the attacking ship. Pulses ran along its length, delivering intermittent heavier blasts during the continuous assault. Thirty seconds. Thirty seconds of their worst, their hate, their fear.

The turret was again silent, its power cut off, perhaps for the last time. They had been advancing the whole time, and were soon in range for the cutting beams- unorthodoxed, but effective.

((OOC:Now, is it just me, or before did you specifically say your ship didn't have any form of defense other than the tractor beams, and cutting beams?))

ooc: True, I did say, "the salvage destroyer has no real offencive weapons" (post 283, page 19) at least once and sort of hint at the idea often, but one needs to take it in context. The HLIC isn't offencive, really, as it is used in defence only- these guys don't go looking for fights. Also, 'at their disposal' comes into play. They hadn't near enough power to use it before, now they do. It effectively doesn't exist if you can't use it.

((OOC:Whoops, forgot about this.))

The ship made a desperate last minute attempt to dodge the beam, but hit several asteroids causing damage to the several of the leech bays. The beam hit several of the bays at the bottom of the ship, rendering them unneffective.

Several things were certain, the enemy could not make a hasty escape, as the asteroind field it chose as cover would destroy the ship if anything hasty was done. The damaged leech mothership launched it's drones. The drones were smaller, and could easily navigate the field with little damage, also having figured out how to get past the shrapnel shield made this much easier. Due to the damage to the ship, only three quarters of the drones could launch.

The Kazecis had a few tricks left, they were enterprising engineers after all, but not many. Severely outnumbered, out gunned, and out maneuvered. Every second was a blessing. The 'gunners' manned their cutting beam stations, assisted by targeting AIs, and began the work of taking blips off of the map. These high-precision narrow-focus beams carried mare than enough power to pass through hulls like a blade through butter and the destroyer carried more than enough power to run them all non-stop for days along with other systems.
