There was a ripple is space. There was a small, bright, white light. It expanded, when suddenly, a ship instantly appeared, removing the light. It was a seed shaped craft. All around it, other white light appeared. And more craft took their places beside the first one.

On the cpmmand deck of the main ship, there is a humanoid creature sitting at a chair. Everything seems to be organic, and there are 26 creatures in the deck. A humanoid like creature, they are about 2m tall, and have a whiteish tone to their skin. All the ones on the deck seem to be wearing inticrate paint schemes on their bodies.

"We made it"
"Indeed sire"
"Status of the fleet?"
"Our colony ship, 2 escort carriers and 6 destroyers. As well as numerous smaller support craft."
"Very well, it seems everything is in order."

Baron Julius Raumson was enjoying time on his personal yacht. There was not much in the way of managing his fief that needed to be done. He had decided to come out and explore the outer reaches of the Empire, maybe land on some planets and hunt some of the more dangerous wildlife there. His vacation would be interupted, however.

Selvi, his Mentat navigator, alerted him of some new ships that had appeared near the yacht. He told the Baron to come and help him decide what should be done.

"These ships that have appeared are quite large. I am not sure where they have come from," Selvi said.

"They could be from renegade houses," suggested the Baron

"We can not rule out the possibility of these ships being from another nation. This area of space is not fully under Imperial control, and I suspect that ships from outside the Empire pass through here frequently."

"Well, ask them who they are and what business they have here."

Selvi sent out a transmission to what appeared to be the main ship:

Attention unidentified vessels, you are about to enter Imperial space. Please identify yourself and the business you have here.

"Well, that's good," said the Baron after hearing the response. "If they were hostile, then that might have been the end of us."

The Baron may have been satisfied, but Selvi wanted to know more. "What are they doing here with those ships? They look like they might be military ships."

"I will send him a transmission personally. We will find out what we need and figure out what to do after that."

The Baron sent a transmission back to the ship to which the previous transmission had been sent:

Greetings, I am Baron Julius Raumson, the head of the Raumson House, which is one of the Great Houses of the Padishah Empire. We also wish to extend a hand of friendship. May we ask why you have come to this area of space?

RCVF Dawn's Path

There was a sudden gap in space, spiked tendrils of red snaked out of the dark gray apurture. A small ship emerged from the portal in a slow tumble, the twin engines sputtering and failing.

"What the hell?" Ship Master Stilov asked, furrowing his brow.

"Sir, we have exited Valari-Lesirov space." the man on the ops station volunteered.

"Any sign of the convoy?"

"No sir, they have not exited VL space."

This was the worst possible scenario. Stilov's ship, the Dawn's Path was too small to mount a VL-FTL engine. His ship must have gotten caught on a gravitational field. The Ship Master looked outside the window into the black depths. He saw what had happened, the twin stars of this bianary system must have pulled his ship off course. But there was something else--

"Sir! Preliminary scans show multiple ships in-system!"

"Really, any idea on size yet?"

"Not really, sir. But possibly large enough to mount an FTL drive system."

"Interesting, keep scanning and let me know of any changes."

The Ship Master walked towards the back of the Command room. He took the large lever mounted on the wall, he ordered another crewman to aid him. Together, they pulled on the large latch. There was an eerie groaning sound and then the sound of the mettalic locks clicking.

Outside, the small ship's rear unfolded to reveal four spiked arms. The arms folded around and snapped into place facing the sickly sharp front of the ship. The Ripper-class troop transport was very good at what it was designed to do: rip and punch its way through enemy hull surfaces. After it had completed it's task, a contingent of fifty USTAD-III SuperSoldiers would emerge hopefully into a passable space, delivering the two-meter tall, dark gray and black clad killing machines. This had also been tested with AKIMO BioMachines, but the extreme risk involved with keeping them contained had them abolished and only used once in battle.

"Send our distress call, Audio only."

"Yes, sir."

With this, the Master left to his quarters.

Unidentified Vessels, this is the RCVF Dawn's Path of the Crimson Vaal Royal Fleet. We require either FTL transport, or long range communication to contact our battle group. The group in question poses no threat to you or any of your respective leaderships. We await your reply.

Christian Jackson kissed his wife Erin good morning as he flopped into his helm station on the tiny bridge of the CBS Intruder. They were the only two bridge officers aboard, out of a crew of ten. Neither were really in the beige uniform mandated by Scout Command, and the two dice that dangled over the viewscreen were decidedly non-regulation.

"Where are we this morning, dear," he asked Erin sleepily. She checked her nav/tac board before pointing to a small, unassuming star system on the star chart taped unceremoniously over the dedication plaque.

"R-XD437, mostly empty, entirely uninhabited. There's a bunch of ships here, which is probably unusual." Christian raised his eyebrows.

"A bunch of ships? Can you be a little less vague?" Erin cast him an arch look, which still made her look regal despite the oil stained pants and punk band t-shirt that she wore.

"You're the sensor guy, you tell me." Fairly rebuked, he scanned his board.

"Uh, we have what looks like a small picket, a private ship of some kind and several unknowns. And two star destroyers, the old ones. Probably older than me, at that. Even so... they're bigger than most anything insystem. And they're moving."

"That could be bad."

"Yes. Yes it could."

"Think we should say something?"

"Eh, why not." Erin tapped a control on her board. "This is Erin Jackson of the Colonial Belleisle Scout Intruder to Star Destroyers. What is your intent?" She tapped another control, general transmission this time. "Your turn, Chris."

He looked down. Stained t-shirt and boxer shorts. No shoes. "Audio only, right?" Erin looked at him and nodded emphatically. "Okay then. Chris Jackson, same ship, same country. What's going on, guys? Anything interesting?" Erin smacked him gently on the back of the head. Spare bunk tonight, probably.

OOC: Sephrioth, what did you just do? I couldn't... quite tell. Also, I might post as 'Gurguvungunit' on occasion. That's my main nation, and I usually use it for forum stuff. So if you see my characters posted by Gurguvungunit, it's still me.

The Destroy Yassir peeled off the main formation, heading towards the ship in disstress. The order had been recieved to grow weaponry, and all over the hull of the ship small pods appeared, which grew in an accelerated speed to what seemed like cannons.

The yacht's navigation room was a circular area with windows on all sides. The starlight caused the Baron's silver suit to sparkle as he stepped across the room to try to see what Selvi was looking at. All the Baron saw when he looked out were little specks of light.

"Star destroyers, sire. I can tell by their arrow-like shape," Selvi informed.

"They must be too far away and it is too dark for me to see them," said the Baron.

"I can not tell their size from what I can see right now, but our sensors show that these ships are quite large, like all star destroyers that I am aware of." Selvi pulled out his speculum. "I am searching for any symbols on the star destroyer that might indicate allegiance. So far, I have not come across any that match anything that I am aware of. I will have to jot this down and compare it to records later."

Selvi procured a notebook from his robes and began writing details of the star destroyers that he spied using a special language that was designed for quick writing. His pen danced across the paper in a frenzy that showed the lifetime of devotion the Mentat had spent honing his navigation skills.

This is why I hired him, the Baron though. Such a skillful assistant has proven essential to me.

"What should be done?" asked the Baron. "If star destroyers are in the area, it means almost certain conflict."

"They are moving towards us, sire. We should begin backing away. They are far enough away that we can try to send a transmission asking their intentions. If we judge that they are getting too close, then we can make our escape."

"That sounds like a good plan, Selvi."

A transmission was sent to the Sephrion star destroyers:

Attention star destroyers of unknown allegiance. This is a vessel of the House Raumson. Please inform us of your allegiance and what intentions you have so close to Imperial space.

"Two smaller ships have also appeared, sire, although I doubt that they are aligned with the star destroyers. One of them has sent a message requesting aid in FTL transportation."

"Let us see what happens with the star destroyers before we offer help. I am suspicious of all these ships appearing near the same place."

"As am I, sire."

"Star Destroyers not responding, luv," Erin said in her delightfully lilting voice. "This might get bad. Wanna signal the Scout Corps?" Chris thought for a moment. Belleisle didn't operate a standing military, any ships that showed up would either be armed freighters or the long range scout cruisers. Either way, nothing good would come of it.

"Nah," he replied. "We're just going to have to wait it out. Keep our noses down and make friends, right?" Erin grimaced. She knew well enough how good her husband was at diplomacy. Not very.

"How about this," she said cautiously. "I'll handle communications, you try to contact Gurguvungunit. Maybe the mother country'll spare a few cruisers, huh?" Chris shook his head.

"They're busy-- some war in the Atlantian cluster. We're on our own out here. Just... try to, you know, not piss people off, okay Erin?" She gave him an arch look again. "What? I'm just saying."

"Vessels of the Yazzan Empire, my name is Erin Jackson. I am a representative of the Gurguvii Colony of Belleisle. Welcome to this sector of space. We are explorers as well. Please be advised, the large vessels that have just entered this sector-- we call them Star Destroyers-- they are extremely dangerous warships. I would advise that you do not approach until you have ascertained their mission." Chris raised his eyebrows at her.

"Was the warning really necessary? We don't have any proof that the destroyers aren't just exploring like us."

"They're purpose built warships. What would they be doing out on a sightseeing cruise?"

"Point."

"Have we recieved any Communications?" Ship Master Stilov asked, rubing his eyes.

"Yes, sir. One of them refers to a 'disabled ship'. The other refers to a group of ships, they say they are on a mission of exploration, but with multiple armed ships," the man on ops frowned.

"I see, did you attach a distress signal to our message?"

"Um.. yes I did, sir."

"And did they say anything about aiding us?"

"They were going to send a destroyer to aid us."

"An odd ship choice for a so-called 'rescue mission'."

The crewman nodded. Stilov looked around in dispair, he needed to contact the flagship before they arrived. They should know that there were multiple armed vessels in this area. Stilov doubted that the enemy ships would last even a second against the Io, the Interdictor-Class SuperBattleship, but they could pose a serious political threat to the Vaalite Leadership. The battle group needed all the men they could, and the fleet had been ordered immediatly to his home planet to quell a large uprising from a nearby group of nations.

Stilov looked at his command console, his troops could be ready in two minutes and his engines were fully operational now. It was possible to unload his soldiers and take a ship, but it was a political situation that his country could not handle right now. He looked at his command crew nervously, they seemed oblivious of his thoughts, but they would do their jobs with skill and precision.

Outside, the dark blue transport's sickly arms and sharp nose gleamed in the light of the twin suns. The dark red sash down the two hundred meter hull gleamed in the light, the signature of the Royal Navy. The crew on the inside awaited the next series of events...

Ship Master Stilov looked at the new message. The other ship had undoubted taken an interest in his ship, but the composition of the message had seemed almost... organic. He remembered an incident from three years ago when a contingent of AKIMO BioMachines had escaped containment aboard a ship similar to his own. He had been assigned to clean up the mess, but it had been quite easy since the AKIMOs never left anything for others to find. They simply attacked, killed, infected their hosts with eggs and then, moved on. He had heard one speak before, and it sounded exactly like the voice on the other side of the communication, and it sent a cold shiver down his spine. He keyed the Comm and shoved away his fears.

To: The Yassir
From: RCVF Dawn's Path, Crimson Vaal Protectorate Swarm Ship

We do not require repairs, but we do need aid in either FTL transport or use of your long range communication equipment. You may send a transport, but we may have to use our own capability to connect them, this would involve forceful entry through the hull of your transport.

Stilov punched the Comm button, ending the audio transmission. The sight of the silver armour of an AKIMO had never quite left his mind. He took a deep breath, hopefully he could contact his battle group very soon...

Selvi continued to watch the ships. He noted how the weaponry had appeared on one of the vessels of the Yazzan Empire. "The ships drew power from the sun, and grew appendages like plants," he remembered reading when studying accounts taken from famous space explorers who had seen odd kinds of ships. While it was unlikely that this ship is one of the mythical plant ships, he could think of no other explanation for what he had seen.

"The Yazzan ships seem to have plant-like components, sire," informed Selvi.

"Really? I heard that such a ship was theoretically possible, but I did not know that any had actually been built," remarked the Baron. He pondered the subject with interest.

"I did not know that there actually were any ships of this kind either, sire," admitted Selvi. "This will be the first ship like this in our records."

"Seeing a plant ship is more interesting to me than what we might find on any of these planets," said the Baron. "Should we try to meet these people personally?"

"Before you hear me out on this, sire, I want to remind you that my Mentat abilities are useless when I don't have information on the situation. I can not accurately judge the risk associated with these plant ships. Having said that, I believe that we could ask for a meeting to be arranged between us. They came barreling into our territory, so I believe that we deserve something from them."

"Very well, tell them that I want to speak face to face with a Yazzan authority."

"Of course, m'lord."

Selvi sent a transmission to the Colony Ship Gralk:

Greetings, visitors from the Yazzan Empire. The Baron Julius Raumson is intrigued by what seems to be plant technology incorporated into your ships. He would also like to get to know your people, as we have not yet encountered each other before. This is why the Baron wishes to have an audience with an authority from one of your ships. We will assist you in your exploration efforts and inform you about this area. May the Great Mother bless you.

"What is the situation regarding the star destroyers?"

"Sire, apparently they are looking for rebels in opposition to their empire. As far as I know, there are none in this system."

"Tell them that. Offer help if they need it."

"Right away, sire."

Another transmission was sent to the star destroyers:

This system is under the jurisdiction of the Padishah Empire and is the property of his majesty, the Padishah Emperor. We are unaware of any rebels that might have fled to this system, but then again, this area is not checked upon often. You will be allowed to search this system providing that you observe the sovereignty of the Padishah Emperor. If you find any rebel groups, the Padishah Emperor would like to be informed.

Erin was the diplomat of their little operation, Chris reflected. If anyone was going to initiate first contact with the Yazzen, it ought to be her. She seemed in agreement, since he'd been told to explain the situation to the rest of the gang, and for God's sake, keep out of her way. To that end, he sat everyone down and explained the situation. Reactions were mixed.

"What, living ships? Cool." That was Dr. Daniel Carter, resident exobiologist. "I'm all for it. I mean, they're on a diplomatic mission, right? What're diplomats going to do to us?"

Engineer Hiram Garrovick raised an eyebrow. "They say they're on a diplomatic mission. What we know is that they're a bunch of extremely well armed, organic battleships." The others' responses fell somewhere between the two, with the notable exception of Reya.

Reya was, as she put it, 'concerned'. She was curled, catlike, in her chair at the foot of the table, tapping her nails against it's arm. It wasn't so much her laconic response that had gotten Chris' attention, but rather that she was so reluctant to divulge more. Usually Reya was irrepressable, always ready to share a story. She had plenty, too.

The first thing that one noticed about Reya was that she was, well, blue. Tall, with a shock of white hair that curled down past her middle back, she definately stood out in a crowd. A black tattoo of unknown origin curled around her left eye and forehead. It probably meant something, but that was another point on which Reya was unwilling to divulge information.

"Care to elaborate?" Chris sounded nonplussed.

"Not really." She got up and left. He raised an eyebrow.

"Guess we're done, then."

In the interests of closer diplomatic ties between our two nations, we would like to arrange a meeting at your convenience. Please respond.
