Diary of Captain Samantha Wyatt, 4/20/2096, 1946 hours

This is my first personal entry as captain of this vessel. A Hyperion class heavy cruiser... I'm suprised I managed to beat out the competition for one of the new ships. It's certainly a step up from commanding an air frigate, I suppose.

We've been deployed to a system out towards the edge of the Saggitarius Arm, to test out the new model Euclid mobile armors. Strange things... they're a lot different than the UAVs used by the navy.

The navy back on Earth, that is... I'll have to get used to thinking of the ANSF as a separate entity. Just ten years ago, I never imagined there was anything beyond the skies... but now, it's all about expansion and exploration, and finding out as much as we can about potential enemies before they find out about us.

In a desolate system with no planets and lots of asteroids, a pinprick of light appears in space. Expanding to reveal a swirling blue tunnel into nowhere, a bright speck of light zips out of the distance, until it appears suddenly in normal space: a Hyperion class heavy cruiser, the Broadsword.

On the bridge, Captain Spencer looks at the displays.

"Status report."

"Metaspace exit successful, Ma'am. No abormalities detected in the vortex generators, recharge will be complete in fifteen minutes."

"Right, then. Time to get on with why we're here. Launch the Euclids, and deploy the test support craft."

The launch bay door in the bottom of the ship opens, and the linear catapult extends, each section locking into place. As it finishes extending, inside the ship, the test support craft is moved into place on the launch platform, robotic arms stabilizing it as the magnetic fields of the catapult grab it.

"Epsilon 1, ready for launch."

"Roger that, Epsilon, Launching."

With that, a countdown starts on a holographic display outside, and when it reaches zero, the main thrusters ignite and the blocky craft zips along the accelerator and into open space, where it begins to deploy buoys, targets, training drones, and other such neccesities for the upcoming tests.

Inside the Broadsword, the platform that had the test support craft on it cycles downwards, as the next platform is moved into position, this one containing a massive Euclid mobile armor.

Much the same scene plays out, as two three-craft squads of Euclid mobile armors are launched, and form up to begin maneuvers. The pilots themselves are somewhat untried, though they've used the craft well in simulations.

"Beta 2 here. These things handle a bit more logy than they did in the simulations... seems like the eggheads overestimated their maneuverability a bit. Acceleration seems fine, though."

"Roger that, Beta 2. Commence maneuver trials..."

With that, the six craft begin working their way through the first test course...
