~West Corinthian News Broadcast~

Today Czar Vasili Kotov announced the formation of a senate in the capital city of Kydonia.

"We need to dispel the notion that West Corinthia is 'just another corrupt dictatorship.' It is time the people felt represented in government. However, I shall still maintain direct control over the country-we don't want the fiasco that occured years past to happen again." The Czar was quoted as saying.

The new senate of West Corinthia has 100 seats. 30 seats are voted in by the people of West Corinthia. The other 70 seats are elected by the Czar. The senate will convene for matters of varying importance and for the purpose of advising the Czar. Any decision they reach can be overruled by the Czar, and he can have anyone removed from their position at will. All candidates for the 30 democratically-elected seats must pass a thorough backround check, searching mainly for anti-government affiliations.

Many are optimistic about the changes. We interviewed several citizens around Kydonia:

"You know, the Czar's a great guy, but he's only human, right? He's trying to run a whole big country all by himself, but now he's got some people there to help him. I think it's a good idea, but he needs to establish that he's the one in charge, not them." One citizen was quoted.

Others are not so optimistic:

"Screw the Czar!" another citizen shouted as he was loaded into an idling police car by two heavily armed policemen. "He shoulda never taken power from that president guy. This is another way for him to oppress the people and make us feel like we're represented, when it's really still him in complete control! Set limits to his power! Spread the truth!"

Whether you agree or disagree with the decision to convene a senate, it was the Czar's idea, and that makes it the right thing to do. Long live the Czar!

OOC: If you haven't realized it yet this senate actually has 0 power. The Czar isn't one to share power, but he wants the world to accept West Corinthia as having a legit government.

The Kingdom of Fourhearts
Diplomatic Decree

While the Kingdom is slightly pleased to see some progress towards democracy, we fear that these measures are simply an empty gesture.

The People of Fourhearts eagerly await the day that West Corinthia has a Senate that is truly represenative of the people that it serves.

Prince William's Office

Prince William and General Sherman watched the report of Democracy in West Corinthia. They were quite interested in the situation, because West Corinthia was right on the border with them.

"You think that Kotev is serious?" asked William.

Sherman turned to the Prince. "Well why don't you just call him and ask?"

Prince William shook his head. "He's a dictator and more than that, he's a very shady character. Very shrewd and very secretive."

"He's most definately secretive." agreed General Sherman. "I can't imagine what he does behind closed doors, where the press cannot gaze, and rule of law does not exist."

Prince William shuddered. "That's why I'd rather not talk to him unless it's absolutely necessary."

The two sat in silence in the room. It was nighttime in Wilhelmsborough. The only source of light in this office came from the lamp on Prince William's desk.

The Prince opened his mouth. "The thing about him is that he doesn't allow his adversaries to see how powerful he truly is. There is something which the people are not allowed to see. And that is what worries me: what dark secrets that man hides."

"Hmmm," the General thought aloud. "I wonder if he wonders the same thing about yourself."

The Prince didn't say a word. There was nothing he could say to that.

The Prince turned his head to the Defcon marker that was installed in his office. It was currently set at Defcon 4.

Slowly his eyes slid past the numbers: 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1. But he stopped on the number located right below Defcon 1.

It was the number 76.

The Prince turned back to the television screen.

Sherman spoke again. "Are we going to make a statement on the situation?" he asked.

The Prince thought for a moment. "Yes, but keep it short and brief. Nothing more than a "good luck" is all that's necessary."

"As you command, sir."
