Ham-fisted thugs

OOC: This is my first attempt at this sobe gentle in your feedback. :) More detail will be added as the nation evolves. For now, HFT is fairly new to the scene and looking to expand. By the way, thank you to Terror Incognita for the basic template I used to build this thing. It certainly made my life easier.
Ham-Fisted Thugs (Future-Tech):
Full Name:
The Republic of Ham-Fisted Thugs
Short Name(s):
HFT, Thugs
Government
Executive Branch
Chief of State:
President Myra Angblat (elected, figurehead only)
Head of Government:
Chancellor Hamish Foop (directly elected)
Cabinet (Ministers) appointed by the president on the recommendation of the chancellor
Legislative Body:
bicameral Parliament consists of the General Assembly (1513 seats; elected by popular vote under a system combining direct and proportional representation; a party must win 5% of the national vote or three direct mandates to gain representation; members serve four-year terms) and the Interstellar Council (69 votes; provincial governments are directly represented by votes; each has three to six votes depending on population and are required to vote as a block)
Judicial
Constitutional Court (half the judges are elected by the General Assembly and half by the Interstellar Council)
Populated systems:
The Republic of Ham-Fisted Thugs resides in what is now known as the Omicron system, a binary star system with a total of seven plants in attendance of the two stars. Of those seven planets, only three find themselves within the liquid water zone and can therefore be considered inhabitable by Thugese standards. Omicron A, the system’s primary star is orbited by three planets namely, Pardal (Omicron A1), Durat (Omicron A2), and Yeltsin (Omicron A3). Of those three planets, only Pardal and Durat are inhabited. Yeltsin is essentially a large rock in space, devoid of any life. It does however serve as the Thugese military’s proving ground and training facility. Pardal is considered the Republic’s capital with a planetary population of 100+ million. Durat was the second planet colonized by the Republic and boasts a population of nearly 70 million.
Omicron B, the system’s secondary star consists of four planets, of which only one is inhabited. Tyndaal (Omicron B1) is a gas giant, useless to the Republic at this time. Fia (Omicron B2) is the youngest of the three inhabited worlds with a population now approaching 45 million. Ganat (Omicron B3) and Manoor (Omicron B4) are lifeless planets. Republic survey crews are currently engaged in ascertaining what, if any, industrial value these two planets may pose as preliminary scans have hinted at significant resource deposits.
Economy:
Well developed free market economy. Growth rates have been steady at 4-4.15% per year for the last six years. Current emphasis is being placed on encouraging foreign investment within Thugese markets and opening new markets for Thugese goods and services.
Technology:
Highly advanced though limited in scope. Biological and social sciences lag behind industrial and military sciences. Medical technology is first rate but has reached a plateau in terms of new research. Research treaties are currently high priority items within the Ministry of Technology.
Military:
The Thugese military consists of three main branches. By far the largest, the Thugese Space Navy is well equipped and capable of action outside of the home system. However, due to limits imposed by industrial capacity (the Republic is a smaller nation relatively speaking) the largest vessels in the Navy are battlecruisers in the 800,000-1 million ton range, with heavy cruisers, light cruisers, and destroyers rounding out the force. Current industrial output simply precludes the construction of dreadnought and superdreadnought class vessels. It should be noted that the Navy itself is divided into two distinct operational units, Battle Fleet and Survey Command. As their names imply, these divisions have distinctly different duties within the military structure.
The Thugese Marine Corps is a highly trained and well equipped force which fills both the traditional role of any marine corps and that of a standing army. The standard unit within the Corps is the Stellar Assault Unit, which is capable of rapid deployment across reasonable interstellar distances and can operate without support for up to 90 days.
The Home Guard consists of lighter patrol and attack craft that operate within the home system only. Capable of very high sublight speeds, these vessels are not capable of FTL travel and therefore do not venture outside of the home system.
