Northford

I'm Still a bit Iffy with Hyperlinking everything on this board, so, I'll just do it conventially, (one big-ass-post) ...
Government.
As a Commonwealth, Northford has a rather unconventional system of Governance. Stemming from its formation 600 years ago, it has three levels of Government, consisting of two Houses, a Cabnet as well as a head of state. A short explanation of each follows below:
Lower House: House of Men:
With a name stemming from a time when only men were represented in Government, this house is formed by members of the public who are elected conventially. They sit terms of 3-5 years, and have the power to propose law, vote on it, ammend it, vote to declare war (assuming there is no veto in Other house/cabnet), et cetera.
Upper House: House of Signatories:
The name stemming from the fact this house was formed by those men who origionally signed the "Articles of Citizenship", and,"The Rightous Constitution of Northford", this house is formed by members of the social group typically called "Gentry". Most often consisting of desendants of The Erus's (Lords) of Ancient Northford, or those citizens deemed to excell themselves, showing qualities that are ideal of a Northfordian Citizen. A more honourary position, the House of Signatories powers reflect this. While they may still propse law's with the prior consent of Lower House, their job is instead to play "Devil's Advocate" with the lower house, helping them edit their bills to make them more appropriate as they see fit.
Cabnet:
This is formed by those asked to by the Head of State. Fufilling positions such as "Chancellor", "Minister of Defence"; these are typically the people who are charged with the day-to-day running of the Government. While they can be from either house, it is normal for them to be from the lower house. The exception to this is the "Head of Admiralty" (Presently, *Provisional head of Navies, James Tricker), and the Chief Justice (Highest Office of Law in the country). These two are often given Honory Titles.
Head of State:
Forming a position between a Monach and a President, Northford's Head of State is commonly regarded as HOS (Pronounced Hoss). His powers are somewhat far ranging, although, generally most are merely ceremonial anachronisms. Elected every 10 Years.
Culture
(Resembling Early 1900's England, do IC write-up later)
Demographics
**55% Female
**45% Male
**No Figures for Religion (Does not collect personal data)
Labour Split:
20% Primary Industry
40% Secondary Industry
30% Tertiary Industry
10% Specialist Industries
Military
Navy:
Thus far the largest Military Service in Northford, the Northfordian Navy currently operates a number of Corvettes, Patrol Boats, and a small group of Cruisers. The fleet air arm, while not yet formed, will be an intergral part of the Force.
(OOC: I'm going to do a post on Northford Military Doctrine at some point.. when a) i get round to it, and b) I actually have the money to get what I want lol)
Army:
Consisting so far of two main Elements, the Commonwealth Guard, and the Mechanised Infantry. The Commonwealth Guard is the "Elite" unit of the Army, and is trained in everything from counter terrorism to airborn landings to the correct usage of heavy armour. The Mechanised Infantry is the "Regular" units of the Army, who fight a combination of IVF's and Heavy Armour.
Air Force:
Not yet formed. Air support for troops is part of the Army's "Job", while Naval Air support is tasked to the navy. Thus far, the Air Force is simply tasked with ensuring that Northford's Air space is not compramised, and although sections such as "Strategic Air Command" exist, they are, at the moment merely administrative complexes.
Costing Breakdown of Military:
Navy~ 65%
Army~ 25%
Air Force~ 10%
Foreign Policy
Presently, Northford has embassies in a number of nations, is on friendly terms with a number of nations, and is allied with several (Pythogria and Craven come to mind). Furthermore, elements of The Kingdom of Bertling's Armed forces are training with the Commonwealth Guard.
