Millitary Usurpation of Power [Attn. Pythogria]

Moantha

Moantha City- Capital of Moantha

High Mediator Elect Josef Jasp stepped onto the platform. The supreme-court member, dressed in somber black, stepped forward. “Do you understand the terms under which you are placed?”

“I do.”

“Then repeat after me. I solemnly swear to serve the people of Moantha to the utmost of my ability. To place their well being above my own. To obey the law of the land, and above all, to obey the Moanthan constitution.”

Jasp repeated after him. The High Mediator Incumbent, Harold Steffan stepped forward, unpinning the medal that symbolized his position, and preparing to pin it on Jasp. He froze at the sound of a gunshot.

That General Greyson had chosen to attend the swearing-in was to be expected. He was, after all, the head of Moantha’s small military force, the Moanthan Fighting Corps. What was unexpected, on the other hand, was that he had brought a pistol, fired it into the air, and was now aiming it steadily at Harold Steffan.

“I wouldn’t do that I were you,” he said calmly. Throughout the crowd, men wearing large bulky coats shed them, revealing weaponry ranging from pistols to submachine guns to shotguns*. Two bodyguards pulled semi-automatic pistols from their holsters and stepped in front of Jasp. Another began hustling the dignitaries on the platform towards an armored limo. No one was ever sure who shot first. But after the first bullet flew, everyone with a gun opened fire. Steffan went down, and the Justice fell a few steps later, but the rest made it into the limousine which roared off.

Two of the bodyguards were dead, along with several of Greyson’s men. Greyson stepped up onto the platform, and picked up the medal. As television cameras rolled, he pinned the medal on his own chest.

“Ladies and Gentlemen of Moantha, do not be alarmed. This transaction of the government will be as peaceful as possible. I am doing this for your good. Moantha must be strong. Moantha must be able to defend ourselves. This is my goal. Once I have finished this goal, and once I have made sure it cannot be undone, I will step down, and I will allow democracy to return to Moantha. Until then, I hereby declare Moantha in a state of martial law, effective immediately. Any who attack the current government will be placed in holding facilities, until such time as democracy resumes. That is all.”

Colonel Richardson watched the address until the shooting began. Then he turned to his second in command.

“It’s starting. Let’s move.”

“Are you sure about this, sir?”

“Aren’t you? I’m sure that I don’t want the rule of Moantha to be Might Makes Right. I’m sure I don’t want democracy to take a back seat to military strength. So are the rest of the men. If you’re having secondary thoughts…”

“No, sir!”

“Then let’s move out!”

“Yes, sir!”

Carl Maaschian had a pistol in his hand as his door was kicked in. He sat at his desk, which was as immaculate as ever, and pointed the pistol at Greyson with an unwavering hand.

Greyson held up his hands to show he was unarmed.

"So," asked Carl, "Which will it be? Am I going to be imprisoned for 'crimes against Moantha, or will your bully boys just put a bullet in my head?"

"Neither," said Greyson, "You're going to keep doing your job. I don't have anyone that can do it better."

"Colonel," said a young aide running up to Richardson, "We've just recieved word that Pythogria is moving to support Greyson."

"Damnit," snarled Richardson,

Six soldiers came up to Jasp, and handcuffed him and all of the other people on the helicopter.

They were told the following: "You will not be harmed. Pythogria is in support of this new government, and, once this ordeal is over, you will be allowd to go with no criminal record whatsoever."

---Imperial Palace---

"Hmm... Seems South Moantha's broken off..."

"Yes, sir. They want to exist "democratically"."

"Well, then, as for that... Crush them. D not harm civilians. We only want a new, more competent government in power. Not a regime. If this new Moanthan government is an opressor, tell me, and I shall deal with it."

OOC: Geez, overkill much?

IC: Greyson stood on the docks, awaiting the promised forces. Two large men carrying sub machine guns flanked him. Greyson himself had a pistol in a holster, and his hand rested on it. The transition had not been completely smooth. One attempt had already been made on his life, and he didn't even believe that one had been Richardson's work.

Richardson... was a problem, and not one he had forseen. It would be absolutely necessary to capture him. If he escaped he would continue the fight no matter how high the odds were stacked against him. Worse yet, if he were killed, he would be a martyr for his men and gods knew how many others would join the rebellion.

The fleet of about 50 transports began the long, tedious process of unloading massive amounts of cargo. Helicopters flew off to airports first, and Carryalls helped with unloading. Tanks rolled off onto the docks first.

The Pythogrian commander approached Greyson, bowing plitely as is the Pythogrian custom. "So, where exactly do you need us?"

"I am sorry sir, but we are already at Cold War with the Gaurian Republic and dealing with troubles at the Vuhefillian States. We don't need to get involved with every despot that takes power," replied Rey Eduardo del San Acero.

"But your heighness, they have the support of Pythogria!"

Eduardo stopped walking. "What did you say?"

"Pythogria is asissting them in their coup. We have no idea why, but they are."

"That is impossible!" yelled Eduardo. "There is no reason that Pythogria would help such a cause." He thought for a moment and said, "I will meet with the leader of Pythogria and discuss this situation. There has to be a sound reason for this."

Pythogria IS assisting Moantha itn it's coup. The democratic governmnet before this coup was, to say the least, very incompetent. The country was in danger. With no real military, why, any maniac with some AK-109s could destroy them. As General Greyson, the initiator of th coup, has pledged to reinstate a new, fair democracy once this is over, we have supported him with the hopes of a new, and more competent government.

Should he begin o opress the Moanthan populace, we will turn against him.

"Hmmm..." Eduardo was thinking as he read the statement made by Pythogria. "General Greyson has usurped power in the name of democracy. This sounds too familiar..."

"You aren't thinking about Emperor Cortés are you?" asked Picardo.

Everyone in the country knew him. He was the original ruler that usurped power peacefully years before the Edoniakistanbabweaguan War of Liberation that dethroned him and his corrupt despotism. They knew of the consequences of a peaceful coup. They had fought the despot that claimed to be their savior.

"I am not very sure about General Greyson, but I do trust Supreme General Khonsu Izakabad. Send him a message stating that we will asisst until it is no longer necessary for our presence to be there. Once General Greyson shows any signs of not giving up authority, we will be forced to pull out."

A machine gun ais and fires at the man, but it is too late. The dynamite blows the armor of the MBT inward. One the crew is dead.

The APC takes the blast, but the gun is disabled. "BLOW THEM TO HECK!"

The tanks begin to use their main guns, and once the area is clear, rush the square, firing munitions at everything that is an enemy.

***
In the town's sewer system, large amounts of explosives had been ammassed, spreading under the whole town, but mostly under the square. As a walkie-talkie blared a few words, one man lit a match.

And the square errupted. The explosives spread outwards from the square, consuming the entire town, as parts that had not been blown out collapsed in.

As men poured into the square, the defenders routed, heading for the heavy forest on the far side of town. Then something completely unexpected happened.
***
In the town's sewer system, large amounts of explosives had been ammassed, spreading under the whole town, but mostly under the square. As a walkie-talkie blared a few words, one man lit a match.
***
And the square errupted. The explosives spread outwards from the square, consuming the entire town, as parts that had not been blown out collapsed in.

Though this did destroy a large part of the invasion force (it amounted to 90% of all casualties) it is understandable that it is hard to blow a whole town. Most infastructure withstood the blast, but many soldiers perished.

The field commander survived. "What the... Is everyone OK?"

A few groans, and a few yells were heard. Wounded were everywhere.

"Curse those slimy no good... [censoed for everyone's own good]!!!"

In the end, the town was taken, but at a price. 16 HBTs, 34 MBTs, 40 LBTs, 50 Recon Vehicles and 12 APCs to be exact, and 500 infantry.

---
It is a standing element of our foreign policy to assist with military revolutions whenever possible.
---
Based on our findings by the foreign ministry, your movement is in league with our own: to establish and govern through armed force, for the goals of creating a society based on strength and resolve.
---
We respect this agenda, and would like to contribute manpower and material to your unique objectives.

At present, our armed operations in Imperial Nod has drawn to a close, and the military is eager to get started in a new theatre.

"How strange. He seems to be lacking of the 'defeat in detail' future dictators usually favor," Donner said. He handed the PDA back to his liasion.

"I will see to it, Chancellor."

"Defeat in detail" means utterly annihilating your enemy with as many forces as you have available. A flyswatter will kill a fly just fine, but a shotgun will also do the job, and you'll -know- there's no chance in Hell of it coming back.

Thus, in this context, "defeat in detail" would be calling for my men to drop into the region and obliterating the miscreants.
