Daleks are not godmod... {FT reference}

Ok, this hasn't really come up yet in my experience, but have you ever had the problem of people complaing about a series-specific tech they are not familiar with rather than try and look it up?
as an aid to such situations, I propose a listing of less well-known series techs, and their attributes, including possible weaknesses

Dalek battle armor:
Plusses:
hull/sheilds can deflect most small arms fire.
frequently manned by fanantically loyal troops
drawbacks:
monocular vison limits feild of view, and provides no targeting redundancy
often requires external power source
Although untis posessing anti-gravity capability are known, lack of legs generally makes staircases a considerable problem.

OCC: Yeah I thought that esipode of "Doctor Who", was pretty good too, the one next week looks even better.

Your forgot to add as a plus that it can break almost any code fast. It can compute billions of calulations a second.

Daleks are also extremely xenophobic and view anyone apart from themselves as lower life forms suitable only for slave labour.

with Davros out of the way they were unified under the Emperor Dalek on their homeplanet of Skaro.

i wouldn't say that they were godmodding. they have their strengths and weaknesses like any other race.

Timelords, now THATS godmodding :P

Nah, Daleks rock; a massive Dalek invasion could be the next big thing. Move over Shivans; DALEKS!

Argh! that acursed word has dragged me from my stupor to post in this topic!

Damnable shivans.
Well yes, it seems these dalek guys are okay, all it really takes to kill one it seems is a little heavy firepower.

I've always thought Daleks are the lamest bad guys they could of created: They look like floating dustbins to me.

There is nothing wrong with playing Daleks, and as previously mentioned, possess their own unique strengths and weaknesses just like any other race. However, Daleks being what they are, playing them would be difficult because they are so xenophobic, as everyone (even former enemies) would band together and fight them once they know the Daleks true tendencies. Also, the player would start with a small number of them assuming that the nation of Daleks is a new one.

It might be advisable, therefore to start small and work up within the galactic power structure.

I've always thought Daleks are the lamest bad guys they could of created: They look like floating dustbins to me.

But therein lies their genius! They can blend into an earth environment, posing as innocent inanimate collectors of refuse, then when no one's looking they pick us off one by one. By the time anyone notices, it's too late, and they EXTERMINATE!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!!

Seconded. A Dalek War would be ten kinds of awesome.

Daleks are powerful, but they can be stopped. However, it would take at least a BFG to take one down. Or the DNA of Rose Tyler ;) .

Definetly not Glocks or G36s.

EDIT: And my brother and I postulated this. When the Dalek absorbed the internet in the recent Doctor Who episode, perhaps he got the idea to hover from a fan website.

they always could hover.

if you cast your mind back to the William Hartnell story 'the Dalek invasion of earth' they had hover pads even then. in fact one emerged out of the River Thames on a hoverpad.

they've hovered in other stories as well.

I would agree that a Dalek war would be a lot of fun :)

Daleks can be blown open by almost any energy weapon, right? I remember Captain Jack blowing one wide open with some form of laser. Even the Cybermen were brought down by a concentrated volley of laser rifles.

And, if a Dalek tried to download the internet again they'd be completely corrupted by the infinite numbers of viruses...

The 'new' daleks seem more humourous than scary. For example, when we first learned what that plunger thing does... they suck your face! OMG NO!

... And it used it to hack that security panel.

Historically Daleks can be killed using most heavier modern small arms such as RPGs, satchel charges etc etc, they can also be disabled by tea towels, baseball bats, blankets, wordgames and sonic screwdrivers (reverse the polarities).

As a dalek nation you also generally have a pool of slaves to do msot of your work.

As for Cybermen, well, silver or gold (not sure which)does the job on them fairly well.

Gold as in the "Glitter Gun".

UNIT has armour piercing rounds to deal with Daleks and gold tipped bullets to deal with Cybermen which just goes to show even a 20th century weapon can take them out.

Of course it should be remembered that the battle armor is not the only technology the Dalek possess.

(Never got a chance to watch old Dr. Who, but I know they at least have space travel.)

An anti-material rifle such as the M82 Barret (.50 cal) could do the job, likewise with a heavier weapon such as an Browning M-2 or some type of anti-tank weapon.

At least anti-tank. Even with a Barrett or a M2, I'd think you'd have to really push your luck-Dalek shields can absorb a lot of small arms fire before they go down, at least from what I've seen (I may be wrong!).

I'd go with explosives, like the RPG-7V or the US SMAW rocket launchers, or the US Mark 19 or Chinese QLZ-87 (http://world.guns.ru/grenade/gl25-e.htm) grenade launchers. Lots of explosives.

Barring that, I'd go with the Quake II BFG 10K.

Bah give me a blanket, a baseball bat and a sonic screwdriver and i'll take them all out.

The daleks actually had a large number of very nasty weapons that got more detailed mentions in the various dalek comics.

Or you could always trap them at the bottom of a flight of stairs. That'll stop most Daleks.

That's only because of the percieved FT-over-MT superiority. A NS-ifed AMR could easily penetrate the armor of one of these. .50 cal rounds have an extreme punch to them, and there's not much, minus dedicated tank armor, that can withstand a sustained .50 caliber barrage.

I do not doubt the power of the .50 BMG or the .50 Soviet calibers. I do not deny they can tear vehicles asunder. I just think a Dalek would probably pose a tougher challenge than any heavy equipment the US/UK/Russia/China can deploy currently. Not to be flippant, snide or rude, but have you seen Doctor Who?

true or you coudl make them trundle over a tea tray completely imbolising them...

Or ask them random questiosn causign them to explode...
