FROM: HIM James XXIII
TO: All Nations

To all nations,

This is a plea for assistance in helping us deal with a massive oil spill, off the coast of the Island of Ralakov. We fear a great deal for the health of the local wildlife and the nearby beaches. Here are the latest pictures:

All those who are willing and able, we require expertise and equipment to help clean up this mess. For further information, please contact HIM Coastguard, who will be leading the operation!.

"Hmmm....intriguing. I'm sure we can help with this."

Diane Watts, Environmental Officer for the First Council Of The People's Republic Of Karullia looked over the plea for help from Macaronia. She smiled a little "Get Doctor Lubeck on the wire. I think maybe him and his team from Karullia City University may be able to help."

An hour later, Lubeck was penning a message to the Macaronian Environmental Health Division.

"Dear Friends,
It troubles me greatly to hear of your dilemma. As such, I offer my team to your disposal. We are a 12-strong team of environmental health experts based at Karullia City University, and have had considerable experience with environmental disasters and research the world over. If we can help in any way, please do not hesitate co contact us.

We could most certainly use your expertise in this; we have very little experience in cleaning up oil spills, and this one is of such great magnitude we need all the help we can acquire.

The Port of Monmouth will be the base of operations for the clean-up operation, and we are able to help organise flights for your team to Imperial City International Airport should you require these.

Dr. Lubeck and his team settled into the Learjet's seats for the flight to Macaronia. The twelve-man team, as well as thirty-five environmental studies students, had all worked together before to counter oil spills, and were confident this one would be no different. Indeed, Lubeck saw it as a valuable field study and had acquired some of the latest clean-up equipment.

He pored over books and charts of the region, attempting to ascertain which areas would be the most heavily affected, and spent most of the flight engaged in this activity.

He was finally startled from his books by the feel of the Learjet's descent. Tomorrow, his work would begin.

I'm finishing off my posting for the night- will continue at work tomorrow. Night all!

The captain of the SotG Njord radioed Ravolia and Macaronia, "We don't have any experience in dealing with oil spills, but we will supply security for the ships here in case the pirates make another attack."

Dr. Lubeck reclined in the plush hotel room. Indeed, the Macaronian government had accomodated them well. Maybe he could overlook the fact that they were the complete opposite of Alexanderian philosophy enough to actually enjoy his time in Macaronia.

Several members of the team were partaking of the bar downstairs in preparation for a long day (And sea voyage, hence the reason he had retired to his room- choppy waters made him seasick at the best of times.) Their equipment was ready to be loaded on board a charter vessel, and he had it on good authority that KCU had arranged for the university's Auxilliary Research Vessel, the Hermes, to set sail from New Haven later that day. Hopefully the vessel would be on station within the week with much heavier equipment for environmental research and spill control. The booms and pumps they had would help, but there would be a large race to prevent the spill hitting the Macaronian shore.

He was confident, however. This was, after all, his job. He smiled, and poured himself a whiskey.

Well, one wouldn't hurt.

Aboard the IPS Saber
Within the oil spill area

The IPS Saber was a Command Ship seconded to the Coastguard by the Navy, and it was aboard her that Rear Admiral Thomas had set up his HQ. He stood on the bridge now, looking out the window at the ongoing clean-up operation. The Woodstock had been split in two by the force of the explosion, and charges had been set on all the major tanks. Oil was still bubbling uo from the bottom of the ocean, where the hulk of the vessel lay. The rear end of the tanker could just about be seen, sticking out from the surface of the water.

Booms were being brought in from all across the world, trying to stop the oil from spreading further out. He sighed. The Collective would pay for this, he was sure. He looked down at the Message pad, at the transmission he was composing:

TO: SotG Njord
FROM: HIM Coastguard

We welcome you to the Empire of Macaronia and Raviolia. Would you please join the Coastguard vessels already in the area - Captain Andrews of the IPS Falmer is in command of the Security Fleet, and shall provide you with information with regards to patrol areas and such.

- Rear Admiral Thomas
- Coastguard Task Force Commander

Passing this to the waiting Yeoman, he headed for the Operations Room.

"I don't see how this Collective expects causing a major enviromental disaster is going to help their cause," said Kirk, the captain of the SotG Njord. "I mean 'Help us, to fight baby seals everywhere?" He snorted, "Anyways, I don't expect they'll try to cause trouble now, but I want everyone on full alert anyways. They blindsided the Aegir pretty well with those explosive launch boats."

Lubeck and his team had began to deploy the booms, aiming to contain as much of the oil spill as possible. However, the thick viscous oil was proving more than a match for the rudimentary filters aboard the chartered Macaronian vessel.

Lubeck frowned, and called for one of his assistants. "Dawson...do me a favour. See if Rear Admiral Thomas can acquire some crop-spraying aircraft. I want to try using dispersal chemicals on this spill..."

Dawson hurried off as Lubeck resumed his charting of the operation. The skimmers and booms were doing the best they could, but until the Hermes arrived with her dedicated spill-prevention equipment, there was little they could do to stem the black tide.

The Consilium of Terror Incognitia is most saddened to hear of the incident that has afflicted you.
If there is any assistance we can offer, you need only ask - the nearest units of our Navy are some days sail away; however we have some experience with oil spills. A call for volunteers to help clean up any shorelines where the spill hits is already out, and we will fund the efforts of those who respond.

OOC: This will be my first MT RP (PT and FT currently ongoing). So you'll forgive me if I don't say too much about my nation, before I work out all the details.

I can offer any assistance required as and when needed, under one condition (which aids in the recovery of the opperation anyway). that is that my men only work under the cover of nightfall. they will do anything asked of them but ask only that they be left to their own business in their spare time.

Thank you for your time and consideration

The Hermes had arrived on station earlier that day, and along with Lubeck's crew had deployed slightly more advanced booms and skimmers. The filters were regularly being scrubbed and the oil sprayed by hand with dispersants, but the going was slow.

The Hermes sent down it's unmanned submersible, Terrapin II to the wrecked hull of the Woodstock. News from the hulk was not good....oil was still leaking from the shattered vessel.

Lubeck cursed as he watched the vidfeed from the submersible. Where were those cursed aircraft?
