Orezian Ground Force reforming! Equipment, ORBAT needed!

Orezia
15-04-2006, 21:03
The Orezian Ground Force is currently undergoing a massive reformation in order to be able to survive on the modern battlefield. We have made plans for the Ground Force to contain
ten (10) infantry battalions
eight (8) armored battalions
six (6) engineer battalions
four (4) aviation battalions
eight (8) support battalions
three (3) special forces battalions

For this plan to come true, we need equipment and an understandable layout. Therefore we are requesting foreign nations to offer us suggestions for equipment and a order of battle for each type of battalion.

The equipment should reflect the Orezian climate, geography and doctrine. The climate is humid, warm and very tropical. The majority of the country is covered in thick jungle and a few very large rivers. Therefore, the suggestions for battalions should include the capability of travelling off-road and preferably be amphibious. We are thinking about light battle tanks with amphibious capabilities for our armored battalions, and any formations suggested should reflect that.

Orezian doctrine is to fight guerilla-style combat in the jungles, confusing and inflicting the enemy constant losses over time, and each battalion should therefore be as self-sufficient as possible and not be geared for large battles. Orezian doctrine strictly prohibits that as it would wipe out our forces, which are mainly conscripted soldiers anyway. We are planning to form several battalions into brigades, but that is mainly for organizational purposes only. Your suggestions should reflect that.

We are offering a contract to purchase the equipment required from the winner of the contract in addition to a bonus of $150 million for the nation which gives us the choice we select. We do have the funds for this thanks to economic donations from various foreign nations and from annual trade contracts which we have established. Thank you.

H'm. As a fellow enemy of Kraven I could probably get you some Scorpion IIs and IIIs (the Scorpion II can grow legs and the Scorpion III can swim. Good stuff.), which are my special light tanks.

In case you're wondering, the Scorpion I is an almost completely normal light tank... disappointing, eh? Then there are a few of my plans, like the MANTIS Mk.I battlesuits; but all that in due time.
The Waffen SS legion

just as a suggestion, I don't think you need so many armored batallions. Its a jungle after all and what jungles are famous for is ambushes. Concentrate on the light infantry as powered armors will literraly cook the troops inside them.
Otagia
16-04-2006, 09:06
OOC: Actually, the power armor would be fine. Not too hard to stick some sort of fan or even a small AC unit inside one of the things (especially my nuclear powered Akumas and Tetsu no Kamis). Also, if you're fighting Kraven, keep in mind that he'll probably deforest your nation with lots of NBCs and/or napalm.

Oh, and Pale Rider Arms sales pitch coming up later, too tired to make one now. Must sleep...
The Waffen SS legion
16-04-2006, 09:36
Good point. And since Kraven is the biggest trouble maker its best to make an army suited to fight Kraven forces. I doubt the will try to use tanks in the jungle but to fight their armored troops it will be best to equip a fine ammount of infantry with hight caliber weapons capable of penetrating power armor. My country can provide a surplus of 16mm assault rifles with tungsten-tipped AP rounds excelent for fighting armored troops and light VTOLs. However these would require at least some sort of power armor as the rifle's recoil effect makes them useless for unarmored men. You will have to find these elsewhere as the models we provide are too heavy and not desighned for jungle warfare.

Subject: Re: ORBAT Suggestion

Dear sir and madam,

We are thankful for your offer, but clearly you haven't read the specifications we have laid out for this to follow. Orezia is a nation covered in jungle, thick and virtually unaccessable jungle. Hence we are extremely concerned with your massive mechanized force. For instance, we requested a suggestion for arming and equpping a battalion, which is a force of roughly 600 - 1,000 soldiers. In your suggestion for an infantry battalion, we found that a total of 1,163 vehicles were listed! That is more vehicles than there is men in the battalion! This massive amount of mechanization is a clear violation of Orezian doctrine, which we presented in the initial request for a military order of battle. We quote, "Orezian doctrine is to fight guerilla-style combat in the jungles, confusing and inflicting the enemy constant losses over time, and each battalion should therefore be as self-sufficient as possible and not be geared for large battles."

Your suggestion is such a clear opposite to what we requested that we must turn down your suggestion for an order of battle for the Orezian Armed Forces. We see it as an insult to our nation that you don't even bother reading the specifications before you start trying to sell your things to us. For the future, we strongly suggest that you read the specifications required closely before you start throwing things together in a random package. Good day sir, madam.
[OOC: This is still open for anyone to participate. All I wish is that you actually read the demands before listing things.]

To the Orezian Defence Minister -
We operated under the assumption that each battalion would have to be a combined arms unit, meaning that each battalion would be a larger unit than normal. Further, you appear to have misunderstood our proposal; we included the total number of vehicles for the requisite number of battalions, not for each battalion. In retrospect, this arrangement may have confused you; attached is a revised bid with the M120s removed so as to make your force more light and lethal. The revised bid is labelled on a vehicles-per-battalion basis, for clarity.
The mechanized vehicles were provided to increase your troops' mobility; they have excellent off-road and amphibious capability. However, we understand if you prefer that we have a less-mechanized force. We apologize if you took our proposal as an insult; we thought it was a useful proposal.
We hope that you consider our revised bid. Our former chief operating officer has been fired for his mistakes on this bid; we do not tolerate such foolish errors as those that cropped up here.
Sincerely,
Lewis Banks, CEO of GD

To Orezia -
We feel that it may be useful to discuss the doctrine with which our proposal will be best used. As such, we offer the following doctrine:

The infantry battalions are, obviously, the core of the army. They are fairly light, without infantry vehicles, so as to more effectively be able to conduct the sort of guerrilla warfare tactics that are probably best for Orezia. Support elements, such as the light tanks and the AD vehicles, can be deployed as necessary, but are usually kept hidden. An engineer company is included so as to be able to destroy temporary bases quickly.
Armored battalions are primarily to be used as support for large-scale guerrilla attacks or for sieges of bases (like the Viet Minh's siege of Dien Bien Phu or the Viet Cong's siege of Khe Sanh). They have some infantry, in the form of cavalry troopers, included.
Engineer battalions are primarily to be used as support for sieges of bases. They have flamethrower vehicles to allow for more terrifying ambushes of enemy troops.
Aviation battalions are used to move troops within your lines; they also can be used to provide support for sieges and large-scale guerrilla attacks.
Support battalions provide more supplies, MPs, and artillery support for the rest of the army than other units. In the event that support battalions are destroyed, however, the smaller supply, command, medical, artillery, and MP sections within each line combat (infantry/armored/engineer) battalion will be able to take up the slack to some degree.
Special forces battalions are the ultimate in guerrilla warfare. With intrinsic aviation assets, they can strike at targets of opportunity.
We hope that this was useful for you.
Signed,
GD Board of Directors

You'll probably want to try to use civilian model or near-civilian model vehicles so that you can more easily use spare parts. Every militia in Barkozy uses pickup trucks to move people and supplies when there's no need for efficiency because if something happens you can just stop at a garage and get it fixed. Be careful about using tanks, especially in a jungle environment. They take up a lot of overhead and you don't want to chain parts of your army to depots that you have to defend.

Though money may never be a concern for you, you have to think about when you're at war and someone and trying to get spare parts for expensive high-tech vehicles may be difficult. I'm not saying never to use tanks and such, but do try to think about the footprint and immobile assets that come with lots of specialized vehicles.

Just my two cents.

We understand and we appologize for our misunderstanding. We shall review the units and consider it seriously. However, we would like some information regarding the vehicles as well, and we would like a rough overview on how many personell is required per battalion and such. How many officers, how many support personell, how many fighting personell, etc. Thank you in advance.

Please do.

All right, I'm going to adopt something along the lines of the USMC organization since I can create a core infantry unit that can have heavier elements added when required.

EDIT: Do you have a list of small arms used by your army?

may I suggest you take a look at the fire arms produced by belgium by Fabrique Nationale (may be spelt wrong sorry) they produce probbably the worlds best sub machine gun and heavy machine gun, they are well known for producing the famous browning pistols and the gun you probably know as the SAW machine gun and they have a solid reputation for rifles having produced the FAL rifle (the main rival to the M16 and AK47) as well as the current american forces rifle. The FN2000 is my favourite as its so versitile with its interchangerble attachments (no tools needed).

If the contract doesn't go through, I can provide your military with the M2 Carbine.

M2 Infantry Carbine

Destined as a replacement for all G4 and G6 infantry weapons in service with the Aequatian Armed Forces, the M2 Carbine incorporates new designs developed specifically for the weapon. It uses the newly-developed 6.35x45mm round created by the Aequatian Republic Army Munitions Design Board to provide the weapon with a higher impact strength and only a nominal decrease in penetration while maintaining a similar recoil of the lighter 5.56x45mm NATO round, than the previous standard 4.7x54mm round which placed emphasis on penetration.

Fully modular, it can be mounted with various light support weapons like the M203 and AG36 40mm grenade launchers, along with many systems that can be rail mounted such as laser sight and aimpoint systems. The standard sighting system used by the Aequatian Armed Forces is the AMI M40 1.5-3x Power Sight, although it can be equipped with a traditional "iron sight" to be used in conjunction with the forward "V" sight or any other systems that can be used on rails. Although the forestock of the weapon is constructed by a strengthened composite plastic, the barrel is designed to survive great stress, such as continued use in hand-to-hand combat with and without a bayonet.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

The Republic of Orezia thanks all participants for offering sollutions to our problem concerning military organization. After careful consideration, we have decided to go with the Aequatian suggestion. We find that this has the most efficient sollution when considering the Orezian geography. It is less mechanized than the Beltwayian offer, and is less costly. Therefore, we award the contract to equip the Orezian Ground Force with ten (10) infantry battalions, eight (8) armored battalions, six (6) engineer battalions, four (4) aviation battalions, eight (8) support battalions and three (3) special forces battalions to Aequatio. We wish to reserve the option to further increase this order to an as of yet undecided amount. The funds will be wired to your bank account upon confirmation of this order. Thank you in advance.

Dear sir(s)/madam(s),

We have experienced a much larger willingness to enlist in the Ground Forces than first expected, and since we don't want to turn away people from the Ground Forces since that might remove their newfound feeling of being Orezian, we need to further increase our order with your nations military industries. Therefore, we wish to aquire an additional twenty (20) Infantry Battalions, four (4) Engineering Battalions, eight (8) Aviation Battalions and sixteen (16) Support Battalions in addition to the ones already ordered. We have calculated the added price to come to roughly 4,135,290,000 AM, or 6,523,419,975 Universal Standard Dollars. We shall wire the funds as quickly as possible after we recieve confirmation that this order has been confirmed. Thank you in advance.

To Orezia -
We accept your decision against our bid; it is your military, not our own. Perhaps our firms might be able to help design new aircraft for your air force?
Sincerely,
Michael Busch, Commerce Minister of The Beltway
