A Message to the Galaxy

Warriors, Martial Artists!

For a long time, the Workers State has hosted the Spartakiade. Named after Spartacus, the great gladiator who dared to challenge the tyranny of Rome, it has always been centered around contests of skill in the martial arts.

Now, in the interest of encouraging galactic brotherhood and to see who is the best martial artist, the Workers State has announced that it has opened the Spartakiade for the first time to all nations in the galaxy willing and able to send their finest to New Dornalia to compete against our local martial artists, to truly determine who is the best of them all.

No restrictions are placed on styles or weaponry. In addition, the fights will be held until one side cannot function any longer, incapacitated either by unconciousness, being knocked out of the ring, or by other means (i.e. Death-but we hope it does not come to that.). Fights will be held in an elimination format, and hosted at Madison Square Garden, New York City. Hotel rooms will be provided, and so will other accomidations for the competitors.

Come one and all!

OOC: Well, come one and all. I do encourage that you stay competitive once you enter (I know I'll be) and in the name of all that's good and holy-no flaming or hairsplitting over powers and whatnot unless its absolutely necessary. Keep that to a minimum.

There'll be a maximum of ten slots. Post your character's name and bio in the provided OOC Thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=477317). And put all OOC banter there.

Otherwise, have fun.

EDIT: BTW, this is FT and PMT mainly.

1. New Dornalia

IC:

Grey slated metallic walls surrounded Ashram on all sides. Darkness seemed to converge on the man in black armor. The demon sword "Soul Crusher" rested easy in its sheath. The room was set with holographic sensors for training of various types of warfare from current urban and planetary warfare to the ancient ways of hand to hand combat.

A pressurized door slid open and the sound of heels clicked against the hard floors. Pirotess stopped a few feet from short of her Lord Ashram. "My Lord, the ship has arrived to transport you to the tournament. We must be prepared to depart within the hour."

Ashram still stood staring up at the ceiling that had now turned translucent. Multitude of stars dotted the ceiling. In this room, a man no matter his greatness could get lost among the stars. "Tell me Pirotess, why am I being sent to this tournament?"

"My Lord, this tournament is to bring different races and nations together on an honorable battlefield. You are deemed one of the best warriors in the Empire and would do the emperor honor if you represented the Abh in this."

A sarcastic smirk and grunt was on his face when he finally looked towards his dark elf lover. "Please do not mock me Pirotess. We have been together for too long. Richard Rahl would be a far more likely candidate for this or even the elusive Bettermen."

"My Lord, if I may speak."

His black gauntlet raised in the air. "Permission granted."

"I believe the Abh do not want anyone to die and you have the control to preserve life if you so desire. If I may also say, their powers are far from honorable."

"Perhaps but they still posses power and power is all that matters. Both have complete control over their entire planets unlike me as I am restricted to an island by a petty ALLIANCE of fools."

"My Lord..."

A hand was up again, this time to silence her. "Come we should prepare for the tournament."

The two of them departed the training facility and made their way back to their temporary quarters in the capital. Ashram and Pirotess were aboard the Abh liner within the hour and heading for the site of the tournament.

IC:

Somewhere in Brooklyn, New York City-

"Yahh! Urahh!"

The foam bats simulating swords flew with vengance and fury, as Lenina Zhao and a sparring partner reviewed last-minute manuevers before she was to enter the tournament. The small upstairs Acolyte dojo had become her haunt over the past few weeks. Now, she felt ready to go.

"So, who's on the plate?" she said.

The partner said, "Abh, Solarins, Starics, possibly Coredians and a few others. I hear the Solarin is a bad mother."

She then sliced upwards and batted her partners legs, saying, "No problem. I can cut that bastard down to size."

The partner said, "Really? I hear rumors...."

Kennedy International-

The air traffic control detected the incoming Abh liner, and wired this message.

"Abh liner, this is Kennedy International. You are cleared to deploy your passengers. We have a motorcade waiting for them."

"Roger Kennedy, this is Captain Russoff of the Abh Liner Royal. Our combatants will depart via shuttle and head down to the planet's surface while we remain in orbit with your permission."

Ashram and Pirotess were escorted to the small docking bay and the Abh shuttle that awaited them. "Let's go Pirotess. It seems we are the first to arrive at the tournament and I for one would like a view at this new planet."

"Yes my Lord, as would I."

Docking bay doors slid open and the shuttle dropped straight down. Once clear of the ship, the engines wer activated and the shuttle screamed down towards the planet.

At Kennedy, near the hangars reserved for the participants, the motorcade was several Cadillac Limousines, the newest hover models. Though Detroit had been consumed in the Apocalypse, enough time had passed where it recovered by the time MacIntyre took power, and it was making autos, like it had done in ages past.

The guards standing around there awaited the arrivals. They looked up and saw the shuttle incoming...and the Tower said, "Abh Shuttle, this is Kennedy International Traffic Control. Enter Skyway 34 and proceed to the VIP Area. Over."

"Roger Kennedy. Proceeding now."

The Abh shuttle navigated its way to Skyway 34 and the VIP area. Thrusters fired to soften the landing somewhat. A ramp lowered from the back of the shuttle revealing a small staircase to the floor. Ashram (http://www.projectbag.com/rolw/pics/ashram_n03.jpg), accompanied by Pirotess (http://indigodragyn.com/wall/pirotess-pov-b.jpg), descended down the stairs. Both held their weapons in check as they met the guards.

A deep and commanding voice came from the dark man in black armor. "I am Ashram and this, is Pirotess."

The honor guard for the motorcade saluted Pirotess and Ashram, and said, motioning to the line of autos: "There will be a meeting at the Waldorf-Astoria, in one of the Ballrooms. Please follow us into the car."

-----------

Lenina, meanwhile, was at break, eating a light lunch when her phone rang....she got up, and picking it up, heard the news. It was time to assemble at the Waldorf-Astoria, where the Games Commissioner would organize the fighters and put them up for the night. After confirming, she put down the phone, hung up, and then prepared herself for the meeting, locking the door and tidying up.

Outside, she got onto her motorbike, a Konarmiya, and began speeding there. Giving the bike to a valet, she walked in, and arrived at the Ballroom, where the Comissioner was waiting.

Ashram gestured for Pirotess to go first and get in the car. She nodded her thanks and Ashram followed behind her.

The Caddys then moved out, and the long black line moved across New York, causing a commotion wherever it went, with people holding signs and cheering. When people saw that there were Abh in the limos, the cheers that were merely ones of encouragement turned louder, and even more wild. It was as if a rock star had come to town.

Here, the Abh were the perennial "Friends of Socialism." As such, they got a hero's welcome.

The limos then pulled up in front of the Waldorf-Astoria, and the bellboys opened the doors as fast as they could, saluting them and saying "Good Day, sir, ma'am."

Pirotess looked around at the screaming crowd while Ashram remained calm and collective. "My Lord, why are the cheering for us so vigorously?"

"That is because our two nations have been strong allies and friends for many years. Delegates from New Dornalia are always treated with special attention and receive the best of everything when they attend. We are honored guests here. Do not ruin such a reputation Pirotess."

"Yes sir."

Both Ashram saluted the bellboys in return and headed into the hotel.

Ashram escorted Pirotess down the hall and towards the ballroom.

Inside the Ballroom, a New Dornalian flag was hung in the back, and flanked by huge posters glorfying Spartacus and oddly enough, Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris in Chinese Propaganda-style. A sign underneath the flag read in Abh, Spanish and English, "Welcome all Participants, to the 1st Annual Intergalactic Spartakiade!" Tables were arranged, and at one of them, Lenina was sitting there, playing her Okama MiniGamestation (OOC: ND Futuristic PSP, with the name lovingly ripped from South Park).

The Commissioner, who was standing at a podium underneath the flag, addressed the Abh, saying, "Ladies, gentlemen, please, take a seat. As you can see, one of our competitors is already here. Lenina stand and take a bow."

She then put the game down, stood up, walked to the Abh, and bowed, saying, "Welcome to the Games. I look forward to meeting you in combat."

She then sat down, and smiled a smile that said, simply, "Welcome to the jungle."

He turned and nodded his thanks to the Commissioner. Pirotess and Ashram walked over to an empty table and took a seat. Ashram unhooked the belt that was holding his sword and rested it against his leg.

Lenina studied Ashram carefully. The armor, the sword, all looked formidable. Whoever this guy was, he must have been regular military back home. She had to be careful...

The Commissioner then said, getting down from the podium and walking to the contestants, "There's refreshments over there," pointing to a table with coffee, some Oreos, sandwiches, a few light items. "Feel free to take some."

Pirotess looked at him curiously and then nibbled at the edge of the oreo. Then took another bite, this one larger. Her pointed ears began to twitch which showed Ashram that she liked it. A smile spread on his face. "Shall I get you another one?"

Descending onto the Great American City of New York City, a large, silver dragon used his own wings to fly down to JFK International. This is Lord Ryujin, Prince of the Core Dragons and Deputy Governor of Coredia on Earth (His Father's the Governor), not to mention a loyal friend and powerful ally of the ruling Masaki Clan. He learned of this tournament from the Holonet and decided, with Coredians cheering on from home and buying tickets to see the battles firsthand, to join the fray and test his powers against other equally powerful warriors. He hoped they would prove a challenge to a Dragon like him.

"JFK International, this is Dragon 1 preparing for landing, over." The Silver One growled into a comlink headset over the whistling wind.

The operators at the tower looked out, and one of them said at the sight, "Holy farkin s*it."

Many of the operators had seen dragons before; but still, it was quite a sight to see one in New York of all places. They were awed by the presence. Some began praying to their respective gods. Some swore off alcohol for the rest of their lives. Others were amazed.

The main controller said with a slight quiver in his voice, "Dragon 1, we see you loud and clear. Enter Skyway 34 and proceed to the VIP area, over."

Heading to the skyway labeled Number 34, Lord Ryujin landed nimbly and was immedately covered with a silvery light as he transformed from a large and dangerous beast to a handsome young man with silver hair and piercing blue eyes. He wore familiar Jedi robes with an elegantly built lightsaber and as he dusted himself off, immediately headed to the VIP area.

Meanwhile, Ryujin's motorcade took him to the hotel, posthaste. The reception of the crowds for the Coredian contestant was large; flags of the Masaki Clan were being waved and signs generally supportive of Ryujin were being held up as well, and cheers from fans that got close (but not too close, thanks to the guards) could be heard.

The motorcade stopped, and Ryujin was let out, to the tune of bellboys saluting him and directing him to the Ballroom.
Waving at all his fans, Ryujin quickly moved into the ballroom, where he spotted several other potential contestants. With a practiced eye, he began eyeing the competition...

Lenina raised an eyebrow. Beer? Before a fight? This guy must be really good or really bad to be able to take on some Dutch Courage in competition.

She then said, "I think the staff can get ye something. Though it'll probably cost more."

She then flagged down a busboy working the refreshment table, and asked him about some beer. He nodded, and returned with some Guinness and Sam Adams Boston Ale beer. She then nodded, and handed him a wad of bills.

Turning to Erkum, she said, "Well, we got you some beer. Take your pick. Anyway, you owe me."

Erkum systematically opened and chugged 6 of each. A dozen beers if 3 minutes? Nothing. No fuzzy vision, no stumbling, no slurring, no effects at all.

"Why does their beer suck?"

"As you know, the Spartakiade is to take place in Madison Square Garden. Due to media interest, we are also holding matches in Javits Center. So, fights will happen similtaneously in these areas.

The rules are simple. A basic ring, similar in setup to a sumo wrestling ring but with poles at each corner, will be used for play. There will be bulletproof glass and energy shields surrounding the rings for the safety of the audience; a moat of sorts will be left around the ring for safety as well.

Matches will be held for three rounds; those who win two out of three will be declared the winner of the match. If there is a tie, a tie-breaker round will be fought. A combatant will win a round if he/she manages to knock the opponent out of the ring, or render his/her opponent unable to fight either by unconciousness, death, or by dismemberment.

Since this is an elimination style tournament, winners of the various matches will combat one another until an ultimate winner is decided.

Axes flash, broadsword swing, shining armour's piercing ring
Horses run with polished shield, fight those bastards till they yield
Midnight mare and blood red roan, fight to keep this land your own

Follow orders as you're told, make their yellow blood run cold
Fight until you die or drop, a force like ours is hard to stop
Close your mind to stress and pain, fight till you're no longer sane
Let not one damn cur pass by, how many of them can we make die?

Guard your women and children well, send these bastards back to hell
We'll teach them the ways of war, they won't come here any more
Use your shield and use your head, fight till everyone is dead
Raise the flag up to the sky, how many of them can we make die?

Dawn has broke, the time has come, move your feet to a marching drum
We'll win the war and pay the toll, we'll fight as one in heart and soul
Midnight mare and blood red roan, fight to keep this land your own
Sound the horn and call the cry, how many of them can we make die?

Motoko took the card and bowed, "Thank you." She headed back to her corner to watch the other contestants.

Lenina then put MacGyver the Game aside, and walked up to Motoko. She then said, "Not a bad entrance there. There's some light refreshments, y'know. Feel free to take some."

She then said, trying to make small talk: "Say...you know who you're up against, right? Word says he's a pretty tough guy."

She looked over to her and nodded, "I hope so. Most people in Tanthan are weak and can't even compare to my strength, so finding a good rival is challenging. Heh...maybe I can offer some of these people a job in the mines, always need another foreman to make sure the machinery is working and help repair it. Good rewarding honest work, best thing next to the capsules."

She flexed her muscles and smirked, "How about you? Are you one of those badasses?" Her crude speech seemed augmented by her translator, that fact she was crass and a little rude did not escape many in Tanthan either. Tough as nails and twice as brutal as a shot in the gut, the way she carried herself like a General had to be admired.

Lenina took one look at her and thought with some dismay: "Dang....she's got an attitude."

Lenina then said, with a bit of sarcasm and a chuckle: "Well, if by a "badass," you mean one of the best martial artists in the People's Acolytes and in the whole Workers State, I'd say yeah. But I try to keep a genial profile and a sense of sportsmanship about myself."

"Join the military, your first name becomes your rank. Only place in the universe that you can show superiority to civilians. Place pride it and may your life be fortitutious and full of faith and temperance."

Lenina then said, "I'm a member of the People's Acolytes. Rank's Acolyte, 1st Class. Not quite a Master, but I may pass soon. This may be my final exam. So I am in a semi-military outfit."

Motoko nodded, "If I am to pass to the highest level in Tanthan I must show dominance over the best fighters in the universe and its one of the main reasons for coming here. When I see the gate....I'll know I will have reached the end."

She took a step back and sighed, "We can use any weapon in our fights, but my weapon is a double edged sword.....I need to be on the verge of death to ascend and if I mess up, I'll be killed in the hellfire that will consume my body..."

She then said, "A double edged? Nice. How's it handle?"
