New Imperialism Strikes Netherlands!

Looking to Expand Dutch Holdings, King William recently announced his approval to send an exploration team to Africa to evaluate the area and determine if it would be economically viable.

Many Dutch businessmen have presented their checkbooks as offers to help fund the effort. King William has called for any explorers who wish to test the area in the name of the Netherlands.

At the same time, an expedition has been called to pacify and subdue the riotous kingdom of Aceh. An expedition under command of Major General Köhle is being mobilized which will attempt to subdue the kingdom. The Expedition is expected to head out in early January of 1873.

The Dutch East Africa Company

The newly founded Dutch East Africa Company has recently hired a company of several hundred explorers to travel to Zanzibar to begin exploring the region and seeing if there is any profitablilty in establishing trade posts there.

The Monarch, William III, is said to have invested heavily in the company.

Funds have also been allocated to create a trade post and refuelling station on the island of Socotra, which will act as a stop off point for ships travelling to the East Indies. It also has the potential to be useful for travelling to Africa.

Greetings to the kingdom of the Netherlands from The Republic of Mexico.

We have heard of your ambitious plans to hold expeditions to the African continent, We at Mexico have a surplus of millitary personel, an agreement perhaps could be made?

We would offer you to hire out permenantly some mercenery groups to escort your explorers to the African continent at a suitable price to both sides. We would like to point out that Mexican troops are especially well suited to the tropical climate in Africa giving you an advantage.

The Dutch Afrika Company ponders the Mexican Offer and agrees. The Investors will be compiling funds for the hiring of Mexican soldiers for expeditions deeper into Afrika in several years. An expedition is expected for 1875.

Meanwhile, the Dutch Trading post, Williamsburg, has been established on the Coast of East Afrika after making a deal with the Sultan of Zanzibar. Deals are being made with the Sultan of Oman regarding trade posts on the island of Socotra.

Excellent.

So it is agreed, by 3 years your mercenaries will be ready, they will be trained and experienced by then as their training will be direct as they pacify the countryside in the South of Mexico against the Indian Uprisings n\making them more suitable for the task at hand.

Of course the exact details of the transaction needs to be worked out.

OOC: How many do you need?

The Brazilian government puts forward a request to Dutch bankers for a significant number of loans to be repayed within 10 years. These loans would be used to build new infrastructure throughout Brazil.

Emperor Pedro II also sends a delegation to the Netherlands to ask for a bilateral reduction of tariffs in order to promote the sales of both Dutch businessmen and Brazilian farmers.

Our offer:

A troop of 4,000 men (3,500 recruited merceneries, 500 expert regular army) to be dispatched along with your expedition for a term of 10 year, our price is a nominal fee of 100,000 Dollars (OOC: is this reasonable?) and that anyone left from the 3,500 merceneries recieve land in the new world and a small amount of money. Anyone Remaining from the 500 regulars return to Mexico.

The 3,500 will naturally swear alliegence to your government and will abide with your laws and will assist your settlers.

To Mexico:

The price is a very reasonable one and is acceptable to the DAC. We will welcome their arrival in 1875.

To Brazil:

The Bank of the Netherlands is willing to issue a series of loans so that the Brazilian Government will be able to increase production. The Netherlands also agrees to a reduction of tariffs to 1% especially to Aruba and the Antilles. We will welcome this new opening of markets to help in the economic crisis.

-------------------

Today, the King announced that given the current economic crisis due to a lack of gold, expeditions deep into East Africa will begin in order to search for more gold to supplement the Dutch economy. 40,000 settlers will be sent to Williamsburg to begin searching for the precious metal as well as other lucrative oportunities.

Meanwhile, the Aceh War has been going well. The Dutch Expedition has so far made many successes along the border with the King of Aceh looking as if he is ready to surrender (quite false as the war lasted until the early 20th Century).
