Carlist supporters have recently been clamoring for their right to the throne and have declared that the Savoyard King is unjust, incompetent, and has no right to the throne. The majority of their support has resonated from Euskadi(Basque Country) and Cataluna(Catalonia). The current Carlist prtender is Carlos VII, Carlos MarĂa de los Dolores. The Carlists currently have around ninety seats in the Cortes but do not have enough support for a takeover. The military has made no obvious leanings towards the Carlists and they are expected to stand by their tradition of never standing by the pretenders.

(Im 1337!!!! *points to post count*)

Carlos VII has announced today that all Carlists and all decent Spaniards should rise up in rebellion against the Savoyard. He has claimed the throne for himself and said that he will stop at nothing to achieve his goals.

The military has decided to support neither the Carlists or the Savoyard "legitimists" instead announcing a full fledged strike and a drive for a military republic. many of the poor and downtrodden have been attracted to their cause and have signed up as frontline infantry(basically cannon fodder).

Already the lines have been drawn and Amadeo I has fled back to Italy. Many of those who oppose the "Republicans" have been forced to side with the Carlists and Carlos VII has received support from many of the former Savoyard supporters.

The US once more (they've been at it for quite some time) place a formal request to Spain for the purchase of the territory of Cuba.

The Republic of Mexico approaches each party in the conflict in secret and asks if any side requires some extra manpower; the subsiding pollitical turmoil has left Mexico with an influx of extra soldiers who require employment.

For the right price, small groups can be organised and put to the service of that side, provided transportation is provided by the buyer. These can range from light inexpensive infantry to experience pricy proffesional troops.

A major battle has almost certainly decided the fate of the nation. Bilbao was attacked the other day by "Republican" forces with great effect. Carlos VII was in the city and personally led his supporters against the trained military men. It was of course a fruitless battle but he could not give up. Rumours have already spread that he was killed in the battle although they have not been concerned. What is known is that the Carlists suffered in excess of 15,000 casualties while the "Republicans" sustained less than 250 casualties. The city of Bilboa was moderately damaged and will take some time to rebuild. Meanwhile, the virtual capital of Carlism has been captured and it remains unknwon if this has spelled the end of the war.

Many other minor battles ensued as a result of this battle and almost all have resulted in "Republican" victory. Madrid is completely in the militarys control and the beginnings of the Republic of Spain have been seen. General Joaquin Jovellar y Soler has been proclaimed President of Spain and has been raised to the rank of Captain-General.

The purchase of Cuba and Puerto Rico is placed before the Senate for ratification, with Grants backing. It passes by a large majority, drawing support from both Southerner Democrats and Republicans.

The United States instructs 20 million pounds worth of gold backed U.S. dollars to be transfered to the Spanish.

Two moniters very carefully make their way to Cuba, accompanied by passenger ships containing the U.S. appointed temporary governers for the Territory of Carribia (Cuba and Puerto Rico) and one regiment of U.S. Soldiers (not sure which yet).

Brazil requests the lease of two very small Spanish ports, one on the Atlantic and one in the Mediterranean. These ports would house an unarmed Brazilian Humanitarian Force to help mitigate the damage should a war break out in Europe. Each port would have no more than 500 men and 5 ships in harbor, with no weapons allowed, and would remain Spanish sovereign territory. As an added incentive, many of the troops will be medics, who will be obligated to provide doctoring to the nearby Spaniards when not needed for active disaster relief.

Brazil also suggests that the leases be for a small sum and last 5 years.

Brazil will not be allowed to lease any ports.
