Balkanska Kraljevina

It was late in the afternoon when earstwhile premier Grigorevicz was captured and flown towards the courts in a country unknow to this TV Station. The event was over quickly, but metropolitan police had great difficulty in preventing mr grigorevicz being lynched in public. Every where in the country, peole tore down the crowns on official buildings and demanded the proclamation of a republic. President Trgovac was applauded on Victory Square today by hundreds of students who had been protesting the Grigorevicz election. Tears could be seen in the eyes of many as Trgovac officialy announced the following:
" Today, our nation has refound it's soul. Democracy has prevailed and parliament is back in control. The army will never again interfere in matters of politics again. The monarchy, which lost it's credibility during the first phases of the Grigorevicz dictatorship, has now been declared null and void. No king, prince, emperor or duke will ever again rule this lands. Parliament voted for the construction of a democratic, federal republic and has chosen me as your president. As your president, I will serve you and the rest of the nation. Long live democracy and long live our country, reborn in strength and freedom and in peace with it's neighbours!"
The real test will be the trail of the former dictator, whose whereabouts are as of yet kept secret.

The judge replied, saying, "Quiet, you. We haven't even presented charges yet. And you are not a legal representative of BK. You are an impeached dictator brought before this court. Thus, you cannot declare anything. And you cannot be released. This is a court." He coughed.

"Now, you are hereby brought to this court on the charges of warmongering, crimes against humanity, and the murder of students in protest. To these charges, what do you plea? Guilty, Insanity, or Innocent?"

To BK,

For the crimes the dictator has commioted, the death penalty is very liklely. We do not tolerate tyrants.

There were some 30 men, all clutchign weapons, crates littlered the floor, he could see inside them, they were full of ammo, granades, first aid packs and the like. There were some chairs and a large table, a map of the city, a computer and a radio sat on it.
"Are we ready?"
"Yes sir, the other groups are in position"
Many groups were in the city, some were even prepared to do suicide bombings. They communicated through an internet fourm, which speciallized in alternate history. Currently, many threads appeared on the ongoign trial, most of them about rebels liberating Grigovervicz. Except for one, one was for real.

I thus declare this to this court: All my actions have been in the intrest of the country and therefor I am not guilty of these false charges. Before I will tell the story, I wish to be relocated, I wish that there be an investigation into the practice of torture in your cells and I wish that you address me as your Lordship.

Grigorevicz supporters demonstrate in Crnograd

On Victory Square, a few hundred protesters have demonstrated against the new democratic regime of Trgovac and Glagolicz and petitioned the reinstatement of the Empire.
"Vladika Kovalsky, MP for the Monarchist Party, made this statement:
" Democracy is against the will of the peole and is in contradiction with our tradition. We demand immediate return to Imperial Rule. This is not what we want, no, this is what God wants from us!"

A counter demonstration occured spontaniously and riot police had great trouble avoiding a violent clash. The group of Gregorici, as the Grigorevicz supporters are known, consisted mostly of Generals, higher officers, the Bishop of Crnograd and the nobility, which was stripped of it's titles yesterday. The threat of political instability is very real and may continue unless grigorevicz is silenced.

Your Honours,

I am not a criminal. I am a man of high birth. I served my country since my birth as have all my predecessors. My rule was granted by the King.
Let me explain the situation. In dark years before the latest conflict, power in my country was seized by Generla karlovicz, proclaiming a republic. He was a devouted fascist and a satanist. I and my colleagues rescued the King and proclaimed an independent country in Nisz. After the war turned against karlovicz we restored order. We were able to establish good relationships with our neighbours and the economy prospered. Then, under pressure form outside forces we introduced limited democracy. When the students protested against my perfectly legal reelection, there were many ex-karlovicz people amoing them. I fought fascism and satanism in the only way I knew how. Is it a crime to protect your country gentlemen?
For warmongering: Walachia and Moldova started the war. They mobilised first and they sent troops to our borders. Our army was not mobilised and was quickly overun by the agressors. As fot the WMD: there was a plan by WM and an obscure power called the Arbeiterreich to divide my country the only option for our survival was to make them understand that this mouse had teeth. Statisfied, your honour?

"This, fellow compatriots, is our moment of truth. In this courtroom, I, the humble servant of our Emperor, shall be victorious. This court is run by our enemies: Zackarothians, Pythgorians, Walachians and, vilest of all: Republicans and Democrats. They accuse me, and thereby our nation of instigating a terrible conflict in the region. I, as head of the Imperial government, declare the following:

-Even though I might have squashed the student rebellion and even though perhaps these countries claim that our election system is unfair( 2,5 percent of the country had the right to vote at the time), these our internal matters. No Soldier of ours has ever tresspassed a national frontier. Yet, the UP found it necessary to attack our cities and impose colonial rule upon our nation, backed by the obscure Arbeiterreich. The other allies have deliberately occupied our lands and disarmed our fighting force. They are the true criminals of this story. They are the power hungry predators that prey upon our nation. I say to our enemies: We forgive your sins. We are above your power politics. If I am to be tried, that will happen before a BK court. Not before a court of my earstwhile adversaries that will surely condemn me to death. This court is illegal and monstrous. If I die some time soon, in there custody, know that they have murdered me!

Mr Grigorevicz has said the following in court:

"This, fellow compatriots, is our moment of truth. In this courtroom, I, the humble servant of our Emperor, shall be victorious. This court is run by our enemies: Zackarothians, Pythgorians, Walachians and, vilest of all: Republicans and Democrats. They accuse me, and thereby our nation of instigating a terrible conflict in the region. I, as head of the Imperial government, declare the following:

"2.5% could vote? That's as fair as eggs versus Panzer IVs. We found it a good idea to stop your complete disregard for human rights. We, as Pythogria, are not supportive of colonialism, and tried to stop them, but the new BK government allowed it. And tell me... how is justice illegal and monstorous?"

You are forcing your cultural values upon ou society. You have violated international law. (it is forbidden to intervene into the internal affairs of an other country) The tribunal is not neutral, but sponsored by my adversaries. I beleive that you allready have sentenced, even though you have not pronounced it yet. Where is my right to a fair trial with an independent judge?
I hereby would like to accuse Pythogria, Walachia And Moldova and zackaroth of invasion of a neutral country, the installation of a puppet regime and the creeation of an illegitimate court. gentlemen, your "court"is nothing more than the tribunaux populaires of the French Regime of Terror. I have accepted the fact hat you will have me executed. It is the only function of this court to kill me so, go ahead, kill me. I am but one man, you are at least a hundred. Please, do every one in this courtroom a favour, and just execute me directly. It will save taxpayers money as well.

"You're honor," said Rakov, "I'd like to make a motion to have the proceedings moved to a country that was not involved in this conflict." He turned to Grigorevicz, "You're not making my job any easier."

"For your information, it is not illegal to intervene, and we only intervened to protect human rights. For your information, no Pythogrian troops went into your country. As for the "puppet regime", I can assure you that it is in no way a puppet. Also for your information, this court has been around for 655 years. As for your, "French" comment, French isn't even one of our official languages."

"However, you were excerting considerable pressure on the government, and made several threats to topple him from power. The government was by no means neutral in the conflict, and therefore, that government, and by extension, the courts created and control by that government, cannot be seen as impartial."

"Your honor, with all due respect, are you not employed by the government?"

OOC: I actually have no idea how the Pythogrian legal system works. But Rakov is going to do anything he can to make sure Grigorevicz gets a fair trial. He's just that sort of guy.

"Actually, no. I was elected, by the people of Geon, this city."

OOC: Bascally, n a criminal case, the judge also acts as a jury. In civil cases, the judge just evaluates. Pretty similar.

OOC: Is the burden of proof still on the prosecution?

OOC: Yes, it uses the "Innocent Until Proven Guilty" principle most of the time, but if we are absolutely sure he/she did it, we can punish them immediately. In this case, he is a government official, so he gets a trial though. And the Double Jeporady law doesn't exist in Pythogria.

IC:

"Very well. Do you have witnesses to present?"

IC:

"In accordance with Pythogrian law, you must swear in."

The judge paused for a moment.

"Do you swear to me, the Defendant, and all citizens of our planet that all that you say in this trial is the whole truth, and absolutely nothing but the truth?"

OOC: To reply, he has to say, "Yes, your Honor. Every last piece of evidence I shall present is the whole truth and nothing but the truth."

"Thank you," said Krakov. "Now, you were a protestor during the riots that incited this whole affair?"

"I wouldn't call them riots-"

"Yes or no please."

"Yes."

"And what actions did my client take to end these riots."

"He sent in tanks!"

"No, first he sent in mounted police officers..."

OOC: BK law then stated that all uprisings should be crushed militarily. In this case, the people were throwing Molotov cocktails a the mounted police. This would have been considered an act of Republicanism and therefor sedition. Army intervention was compulsory according to the law
