Is it just me or do all RPs never finish?

All the RPs I've been in have died after about a week. I've never really had a sucessful RP from start to finish. Does this happen to everyone else or am I just not lucky?

Any way to prevent this? Is there any group of people that tend to stick with what they start? Just when we get an awesome storyline going the RP just dies out of nowhere.
It generally happens in character RPs more than international incidents such as wars. Try to find character RPers that have high post counts or who have been around for a while, they tend to stick in RPs. Also, if you see high quality (or extensive) writing in an RP, it is generally going to continue...

it only happens in war when its closed usually because not enough people signed up or something, if its limited to a region then maybe not enough people in the region got involved
And and RL stuff happens and people can't go on for a long time.
