OOC: Meh.. I got bored, so decided that my country needed an international dock/port, since, apparently, it lacked one.

Northford Herald

Red Bridge Docks Open

Reported by Jack Web, Industry Correspondant

Soft spring sunlight shone over Northford today, ushering in a new era of commerce, trade, and expansion. With Government support, Industry finance, and technological innovation on par with the rest of the world, the people of Northford finally had an International Port to be proud of.

Located on the coast surrounding the Northford Capital, Richmond, Red Bridge Development marks the first major investment in public infrastructure since the construction of the WIG Train network, 5 years previous. However, unlike the Trains, not only do the Red Bridge Docks cost above 2 Billion Northfordian Pounds, they are also designed to be used primarily by the non-Northfordian Market.

"They have the international market in mind", Remarked Chief Designer, John Bruce, "We've made it so the port can accomadate every size and type of ship, from small, luxury yachts, to very large ocean going liners. The Facilities are designed with non natives in mind, we have refueling facilities for all the major fuel types, and all personell area's are anthroprometrically designed for the broadest ethnic groups."

When one visits these docks for the first time, even the most archetecturally untrained eye will see this is not a mere advertising boast. They span along 8 Miles of Coast, and encroach 3 Miles inland. What was origionally a tourist beach has been completely removed, and replaced Deep water Docking Facilities, Piers, Shed's and Floating Warehouses. That said, however, the enviromentally concerned amoungst our readers need not be concerned, as the beach that was there was relocated onto previously polluted land, that was cleaned up as part of the massive operation.

Here follows a short summery of the Docks:

5000 New Warehouses
60 Piers, stretching 3/4 Mile out to sea, protected by an extensive system of breakwaters.
2 New power Stations, Nuclear.
7 New WIG Train Stations
4 Overland Tramways
2 "Nature Reserves", within the Docking Complex
1 Museam, concerned with the history of Richmond's Beaches
Ferry Service
3 Hotels, Consisting of a Five Star, a Three Star, and a Hostel for travelling workmen
New housing to accomodate 1 000 000 People, in a range of cost levels
Secure Ares: One Sq mile, secured by the newly formed Northford "First Mechanised Division", and hosting the "Provisional Northfordian Navy's" Patrol Boats.
Foundations for the Pythogorian Ethanol Pipeline, yet to be installed.
Utilities and Sewage works
2 Retail Parks
10 Office and Light Industry Plots.

Furthermore, this list of facilities is merely the tip of the iceberg according to one industry insider.

"One thing we arn't boasting about, at least not publicly, are the security features built into the RedBridge Development. Most of them are not installed yet, and will probably not be in the forseeable future, although it bears mentioning that there are provisions in place for defence against Aircraft, Submarines, and of course, normal surface ships. From what I heard ", the insider said, smiling, " most of these thing's won't be installed until there is a threat. God help any poor B*****d who does try to do anything"

Until such a threat does materialise, however, the people working and trading will have to suffer what is already begining to seem like the biggest peace time operation of the Northfordian Armed Forces. The RedBridge Developement has sparked the formation of the Commonwealth's first standing "Army", a Bridgade of Mechanised Infantry, as well as the first standing "Navy"~ a few coastal Patrol Boats, purchased from the internationally respected Portland Iron Works, based in Sarzonia.

Despite this apparent militarisation, it is Trade that the Docks are for. To that end, the Northfordian Government has issued the following message to any company/business wishing to operate or base itself within the development:

To whom it may concern:

The opening of Red Bridge marks the latest development of the people
and government of The Commonwealth of Northford to show that
they have well and truely ended their policy of isolation.

With this, the Government has seen it fit to allow companies and business
from Other Countries to sell their wares out of this port, so long as
they show to the Office of Trade they are willing to follow Northfords laws
and regulations. To Contact the Office of Trade, and to open a business in
Red Bridge, simply [OOC: Tg me or post in thread].

David Fenlon,

Hello,
We wish to trade with you. We noticed that your country produces gambling equipment. We are interested in buying offshore casino barges from your ship yards. In return we will send you multiple fuel injection-- these run on almost any high heat fuel biodiesel, gasoline, vegetable oil, rocket fuel, etc. hybrid electric boats, trains, and automobiles.

Regards,

Amara Cruon, Trade Minister

Trade would be acceptable, however, it bears mentioning we produce very few ships ourselves. This development is more of a port/suburb of capital city [OOC: This ain't a storefront, its more saying... "this is built, come why don't you base you're companies in my country and operate out of my port"].

That said, should you still be interested we are more than happy to provide gambling equipment for any ships you provide, outfit them, and allow you to operate them both out of our port, and around the Northford coast.

In return, we are eager to hear about these "Fuel Injectors", are they a type of engine? [OOC: Are they MT?]
Pythogria
08-04-2006, 19:56
OOC: Fuel injectors were available in 1980, I believe. Definately MT.

Of Course, Pythogria is one of our staunchest allies in the world, and are constantly remarked upon as a model of which to base our small country on. Any ship flying the Pythogorian (sp) colours in Red Bridge will be treated with the upmost respect, and will be shown the true meaning of "Northford's Hospitality".

Be it Military or Civilian, Luxury Yacht or Deep Sea Tanker, if it is flying your flag, and is in our waters, it is our friend.

In reference to the free trade aspect, as agreed previously, we will honour it, allowing you to operate with the mininum beaurocratic "Red Tape", and trade with your tax free status, for as long as we are friends.

do [/I] you call someone from Pythogria? Phythogorians? I just realised, I never quite knew...

OOC: yeh, I know what fuel injection technology is.. but he didn't actually say what the fuel injectors were....

Northford finds that most suitable. Be warned, however, unless a free trade agreement as agreed before hand, we have a 3% add-on tax for foreign business. At present we do not need Arms or Uranium, but your Automotive industries are somewhat lacking in Northford at present.

=============================

As for the issue of what is illegal, simply put, illegal drugs (including weed, coke, crack, heroin, ect) , prostitutes, slaves, and anything else that crosses moral boundaries.

Heartland Ani-Trade is headed by Exodd Necros, son of Cil Necros, daughter of the sovereign Lord Necromancer. The company trades in zombie dragons, gryphons, bone-runners, flesh-flyers, gargoyles, grimlins, Soronatariacs, and more.

Well, we're open to basically everything. We have good quality roads, and, furthermore, Northford has an active "Off-Roading" scene.

OOC: If you have a storefront, you're more than welcome to pop something in like.. "we have a showroom in Redbridge Northford"

OOC: I'm MT, not fantasy, and have no idea what a Necromancer or a grimlin is in real life.... if ya wanna open a *pet store*, you're more than welcome to

Necromancers~~Not for sale!:(Not sure where they came from. I learned of them from fantasy books and video games.) Magic-users who specialize in the use of dead bodies and spirits for casting evil spells or bringing back the dead.

zombie dragons:(Got the idea of a card from a trading card game) Dragons that used to be dead, but have been ressurected by magic.

gryphons:(Ancient Medditerainian myth) Flying monsters with the body, legs, and tail of a lion, but the wings, head, and talons of an eagle (http://images.google.com/images?q=gryphon&ie=ISO-8859-1&hl=en)

bone-runners:(I made them up.) Horses that use to be dead, but have been ressurected by magic. People who ride them are called bone-riders.

flesh-flyers:(I made them up.) Peices of various animals sown together Frankenstine-style to make a large, airborn beast of burden.

gargoyles:(Architecture.) Those ugly monster things you see on the corners of the roofs of old cathedrals. But mine are alive. (http://images.google.com/images?q=gargoyle&ie=ISO-8859-1&hl=en&btnG=Search+Images)

gremlins:(Origin unknown.) Small, goblin-like creatures and skilled engineers. They often get inside electrical devices and mess them up. They were first discribed during World War I by French air force pilots. (http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=1&ct=result&cd=1&q=gremlin&spell=1)

Sorontaracs:(I made them up.) Hugely powerful undead monsters which are sown together from twenty to a hundred micellanius dead bodies(human or animal) Frakenstine-style. They are sometimes used by the Zombie Alliance's military to destroy buildings.

and more:(umm...) What can I say? AND MORE

So, welcome to my international pet store. MWAHAHAHAhaha...ha....ha...*ahem*.

Here is an example of the type of engine in our cars, trains, and boats. It is modern tech, but we have had time to develop this technology. We have had them for a while in mass production. Some other examples of companies with this technology are Railpower in Conada-- (Canada) which produces hybrid trains.
This is a multiple fuel hybrid electric gas turbine engine.

While the rocky and slightly acidic soil of Siap allows our friends in the agricultural industry to grow some of the best tea and spices in the world (When combined with our distilleries, some of the most exotic spirits in the world), but unfortunately it is more difficult for staple crops to grow. Skyetech Industries is interested in opening a branch in Northford. Skyetech is one the single largest corporation in The Community of Siap. We have many diverse holdings, including arms manufacturing, aircraft design and manufacture, ore extraction (uranium mostly, but we have recently discovered a new vein of platinum), synthetic petrochemical development (Oil is rare in The Community, and we manufacture chemicals that allow us to work without it).
While the rocky and slightly acidic soil of Siap allows our friends in the agricultural industry to grow some of the best tea and spices in the world (When combined with our distilleries, some of the most exotic spirits in the world), but unfortunately it is more difficult for staple crops to grow. As such, we would like to work out a trade agreement with your nation.

We look forward to doing business.

Northford Welcomes Skytech's interest in the Redbridge development. If you are interested, we could arrange a trade agreement. Northford already has many of the services you offer, howerver ,it lacks manufacturing industry.

Perhaps an agreement could made that trades surpluss Agricultural produce (wheat, barley, ect) for Skyetech's expertise in Manufacturing?

Yes, Northford is very rich in ore..... "Commonwealth Mining Inc." is one of our biggest companies in fact. Are you interested in purchasing shares?

Rules wise... as long as we don't deem your government hostile to us, there's no problem with it.

Oh, and do you happen to have any prominent steel mills?

Baltimore Shipyards is a major corporation in The Beltway. We build warships, electronics, missiles, torpedos, and (through a subsidiary) munitions and small arms. Having secure access to resources like silicon, aluminum, and titanium is vital to the success of our corporation. As such, we wish to invest in your company so as to ensure that we retain the resources we need for the future. We wish to purchase a 10% share of your corporation. Is this possible? If so, how much should we wire to you? Thank you.

With a recent alliance between Northford and Cravan, some of our companies wish to send sales reps in order to begin official trade between our nations. They will arrive ASAP by jet to begin discussing trade agreements. Some government representatives will also begin discussing of trade of such things as resources, weapons, etc.

Also, thanks to our alliance permission has been gained to establish a small naval facility in your nation. Supplies and building materials are en route, and we encourage joint use of these facilities between our forces. We already have a ship in the general area which will be stationed at this base.

Just tell me if you need anything and it'll be shipped to you ASAP.

[OOC: Steel Mills? Not really, previously Northford was isolationist, and most things were made out of the most readily available material~Aluminium. For that reason, the Iron industry never really took root.]

To: Adm. Thad Cochrane, CC: David Jeremiah.

The Northfordian Office of Trade welcomes your interest in the recent Redbridge development. While this opening was to primarily stimulate trade in the ports, we have never-the-less considered your proposal and have accepted it.

Presently, there are 1 000 000 shares of Commonwealth Mining on the open market, with most of them in the hands of ex-employees who request them as part of their severance/retirement package. It is for this reason, there are so many of them available. While this abundence means they are relatively cheap, bulk buying will still set you back.

Presently, shares are going for £19.31 each. A ten % stake in the firm will cost you £ 1 931 000. Are you interested?

She got out of the car, and followed Mr. Oak.

They proceeded out the car, and into the conference center. Thoughout its vast halls and corridors they travelled, until they reached the remarkably small chamber that would be acting as their meeting room.

"Can I get you any refreshments, Ms Sage?" asked the young Oak, like his father, politeness and friendlyness were strong elements in his personality.

"While I'm sorting this out, lets just get a little better aquainted," he remarked, staring at the womens natural assets.

To: Adm. Thad Cochrane (ret.), CEO of Baltimore Shipyards
CC: Adm. David Jeremiah (ret.), CFO of Baltimore Shipyards

Let me once again thank you for your interest in Commonwealth Mining Inc. Despite the low price, we unfortunalty have to reject your offer to buy a 50% share in the business. There are a number of reasons for this. Firstly, there simply are not that many shares available on the open market at the moment. A 25% share is owned by the government, and a further 25% is owned the origional family who founded the business. That leaves 50% in the hands of other individuals, such as ex-workers, and other investors. To attempt to purchase what are, effectively, all the shares on the open market is impossible. The second issue here is security. To give a 50% stake in the firm to a foreign company would prove dangerous if our relations ever detiorated, thus possibly causing the freezing of a company which contributes 2% of the countrys GDP (which a LOT for one company BTW)

Despite this, we are still interested in selling you a 25% stake, as a happy compromise. We await transferal of funds before signing over contracts.

Thank you for your reply; we understand completely that you don't want to lose control of your companies, and, in light of the recent recession in Sarzonia - sparked by the economic troubles of one company, Portland Iron Works - we have no reason to view your fears as anything less than valid. Therefore, we are wiring you £4,827,500 for the 25% share in the company. We hope to continue to do business with you in the future.

Meh, it's not that old a thread.

IC:

The military facilities at Red Bridge were fully completed, and it was visible from almost all over the city. The most visible part of it was the massive INS Leviathan, watching over them like a protector 24 hours a day. Also visible was the massive Falcon-class aircraft carrier, keeping the skies above them safe. Less visible were the smaller support ships, but they were ready as well.

The Marines had adapted easily to the area, and would commonly go out on the town for a good time. Everything was nice and calm here. A great alternative to the war torn areas which Cravan often stationed in to preserve the peace.

IC:

To the People and Government of The Democratic Empire of Craven:

Writing this, I have strong feelings of pride and gratitude flowing through my veins. While we may still be a small country, in terms of clout and population, we are growing. Growing, not just in terms of our numbers, and our militaristic might, but also in the amount of friends we have.

It pleases me greatly I can count Craven amoungst this list of friends. With your ships and men helping our forces protect our shores from foe, I can sleep soundly in my bed at night.

Although we may be a quiet country, as you well know, our armed forces are not as well developed as they could be. While we have our Commonwealth Guards, a modern, formidable fighting force, and a growing navy, it is no secret that our Army is small and is unable defend our country properly, let alone project force. Numbering at one Division, we concentrate our forces around the Red Bridge and Richmond area, where they will be used best.

While we do this, you, a helpful country, station ships in our harbour (s), graciously station your marines in your bases. As well as this, you kindly admitted us to your alliance, the GASN, a group which is, as time passes, becoming more and more central to our defence/foreign policy.

So you see, I'm saying thank you. It might not mean much to you, but it means a lot to us.
