The United States History
1904 - Captured Ex-Spanish Territory Puetro Rico, dispite citizen protests, is annexed as the 49th state with Hawaii, which is 50th. The territories of the Phillipines, Alaska, and Virgin Islands still remain in their territorial status. Republicans take majority.
1908 - Democrats are elected with the aid of Puero Rican and Hawaiian Democrat Votes. In hopes to gain an other vote, Alaska is requested to join the union but the Republican-Congress denies. War in South America errupts with the United States staying out of the war, attention turns towards Colombia and the provinces of Panama.
1910 - Negotiations into a possible canal is opened briefly but abanonded for Colombia to continue construction of the Mid-American Canal, once started by the French. Social reforms aid in the economic depression sweeping the country by giving government jobs in steel mills, hydroelectric dams along the Mississipi and Hudson, and eco-friendly industrial plants for manufacturing of raw materials such as copper, iron, and aluminum.
1911 - United States offically exits its economic depression with only 20% of its population below the poverty line. Democratic (Yet Republican-Idealistic) president is assinated, and Vice President, Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, a Republican (party changed after second running), becomes President. Becomes an instant hit with citizens, despite te news of assination, rumored to have been CIA-aided due to problems with the state of Cuba and Mexico.
1911 - Roosevelt attempts to open talks with Cuba on possibly a territorialship to aid in the economy and protection. Cuba turns it down and is faced with a non-publisized economic embargo from American goods, heavily damaging the Cuban economy.
1911 - Roosevelt tries to aid relations with Mexico as its now-militarised border fires on any civilian or militaryman that crosses the gated border, in both an attempt to lower illegal immigrantion, stop the taking of jobs from Americans, and to fight Mexico's dependacy socially on sending American dollars into Mexico.
1912 - Talks again open for possible co-operation on Mid-American Canal (Refered to as the Panama Canal due to the province it rests in) with Colombia. Navy is given a reform due to a new economic boost from Alaskan oil reserves being discovered and with it comes more refineries in the Gulf of Mexico. The embargo on Cuba still stands, and pressure to join the Union as a territory is still heavily felt. Research begins for the proclaimed "Mark One" or M1 Rifle, to be a standard light infantry support rifle.
