Name: Defensive Non-lethal Space Mine Project
Description: To round out the Defenses around Nova a research project has been started. The Aim of this project is to develop a Space-based mine that may include a number of non-lethal defensive technologies as well as the potential to be an explosive device as well. Existing technologies will be used but may be applied in unusual ways.

Details:
Each mine contains active and passive sensors. In normal operation only passive sensors are operating, once a threat (a non-friendly, energy emitting space-borne object) has been indentified using a single Inertial Thruster and a nubmer of smaller thrusters to steer. The mine moves towards the Threat. When it gets close enough to the threat it uses a combination of grasping and a secreted glue like substance to adhere to the bow of the threat.
Once adhered to the threat active sensors are invoked. These help provide targetting data to Novaen ships in the area. Also included in the Mine is a self destruct mechanism which once triggered (only can be triggered once adhered to an object) blows itself up inflicting damage onto the ship itself.
A Final feature of the mine is that it contains something very similiar to the TFME in our space ships, but it is configured and designed not to provide FTL travel, but to essentially cause the threat to operate in slow motion. Multiple mines may need to be used (depending on the size of the ship) before this function can be used. It has been calculated that 3 mines will be required for the Hawdon classes of ships for this ability to function properly, the mines will automatically position themselves in the most optimal way.
Usage: These mines will be deployed in the novaen system which be controlled from a station back on Nova, to aid in the defense of Nova.
As well as the ability to be deployed from a Hawdon class ship once a Mine Deployer has been fitted.
