Colonel-Commisar Gaunt stood looking at his Regiment, and they were HIS regiment no one elses. Ever since he led the Tanith 1st away from there homeworld there has been a lot of dissent in the ranks. The men belive that they should have been allowed to die with their planet during the chaos attack. Well now they will have there chance for revenge.

"Men of Tanith, Hear me!" He shouted. "Many of you hate me for robbing your chance of defending Tanith, and you rightly should. But now is the time for our revenge! I have recived word that a Leigon of the Traitors is going to attack the Imperial colony on Bren 4 in the Ultima Segmentum. We Will defend that colony for the Imperium and for the memory of Tanith!"

"Men of Tanith, Now is your time for revenge. For Tanith, For The Emperor!"

At this the regiment let up a mighty cry of 'For Tanith' and immediatly climbed on the many waiting Valkery Transports for transfer to the Battle Barge 'Emperors Fury'.
Gaunt looked at Major Rawne who looked back with utter contempt. Rawne would not ever forgive Gaunt for his crime and swore that he will kill Gaunt at the first opportunity.

The Battle Barge 'Emperors Fury' immediatly set course for Bren 4 when all the Valkery's had docked.

"Emperor show mercy for our enemies", thought Gaunt, "For we shall show none."

Brutra, champion of chaos undivided, lord of the Black Dragons - an elite company of black legion chaos marines - surveyed his men with cold staring eyes. They had been hiding on Bren 4 for some time now, waiting to tempt their prey towards them. Little did his enemy know that it was his devout men who had destroyed Tanith. It had been the Black Dragon company who had made first planetfall and personally killed most of the Tanith regiments. He remembered there futile efforts to stop them as their dreadclaw drop pods crushed the Tanith beneath them. Now was time for the final blow. He had left tantalizing hints and clues and he knew that only Gaunt would of pieced them together by now. From the Gothic Sector all the way to Bren 4 the ghosts would track him. His men were all merciless and hungry for the chance to kill the Tanith once more. The divinations and prophetic dreams of his sorcerers told him that the tanith must die. The time had come, it was now that he must strike. Brutra gave out the call "For The Warmaster, For Chaos!!!"

Gaunt and his men made planetfall two days after setting out from the Gothic Sector. The land was marshy with thick forests covering most of the dry land.

"Colonel Corbec, what is the situation of the colony's defences" asked Gaunt to the man standing beside him.

"There is a series of fortified outposts surrounding the colony. Each has an extended trench system with pillboxes overlooking the marshland, some underground bunkers that can be used as billets and a Central tower that would be excellent for our snipers and Larkin." replied Corbec.

"Is that good for you Larkin?" asked Gaunt.

"Yes sir it shall do for now" said Larkin, who was cleaning his custom Long-Las

"Sir, our Leman Russ support says that they cannot make planetfall due to the nature of the ground. However a detachment of Basilisks has set up within the colony itself to give fire support." said Vox-Officer Lotin on Gaunts right.

"Just a Detachment? thats only Fifteen of them, its not enough Colonel-Commisar" said Trooper Milo from behind Gaunt with a note of panic in his voice.

"Calm yourself Milo, It is more than enough to see off these Traitors. Major Rawne! Split the men up, I want Three Hundred men at each outpost. Distribute the heavy bolters so that each outpost has a team of three at them, make sure there are snipers in every tower and report back to me at outpost 1168." shouted Gaunt.

Rawne threw Gaunt a look of loathing but carried out his orders nontheless. Painfull as it was to admit, but the men needed the Commisar at the moment.
"Still", he thought, "I'll stick my knife in him the first moment i get"
Gaunt watched Rawne go issue the orders. He had a bad felling about the Major and he thought it best not to be alone with him. After Rawne left Gaunt procceded to the outpost he was to make base at.

"This will be a tough fight", he thought, "But we will prevail"

"Fools" Brutra thought to himself. The tanith had played straight into his hands and now his time of glory had come. The tanith had spread their regiment throughout the defensive outposts but the rest of them could be dealth with later, for now Gaunt was his target.

"Korva!!" Brutra bellowed
His most faithful aspiring champion, already fast on his way to daemonhood slunk through the door in heed of his master's call.

"yes my lord"Korvas cold steel like voice hung in the air like ice.

"The tanith have made planetfall, an attachment of 15 basilisks has made its way onto the surface, this was expected and we have made plans to make sure no artillery can destroy us. Take 50 men with melta bombs and some heavy weapons - destroy as many basilisks as you can - go now before they can prepare for the main assault."

"of course my lord" Korva slithered through the doorway on his tentacle like legs, going to prepare the weapons and men for this sneak attack. Then he realised that his lord had not told him whether or not the basilisks would be inside the fortification. This might make things difficult for him. He liked a challenge and prepared the best men he could who could carry heavy weaponry, remain hidden in the terrain and could scale the outpost. Gaunt wouldnt know what hit him.

"Message from Major Rawne sir!" ,said Vox-Officer Lotin, "He reports that all men are in position at their designated defence points. He has also requested mortar support at each point"

"Tell him to set up two mortars at each point behind the defensive wall, then to get back here immediatly" said the Colonel-Commisar.

"How's the land look up there Larkin?", shouted Colonel Corbec to the Master Sniper in the tower.

"The land is very marshy, which will work in our favour as it will restrict movement untill they reach the trenches. But there are also a lot of woodland that could easily be hiding a lot of traitors right now, i don't know because its too thick but we better keep an eye on it." replied Larkin.

"All right, men of Tanith hear me! Lay low in your trenches, let the cameleoline hide you untill the enemy is in range then show them no quater. Let you get your revenge for Tanith and for the Emperor!" Shouted Colonel-Commisar Gaunt to the amassed troops of his outpost. "Lotin, tell the other outposts to stand to and await the enemy"

"Yes colonel-Commisar"

Gaunt drew his sword. The sword of Heironymo glinted and glowed with deadly energies as if it wished itself to carve through the Traitors untill there was none left. Anyone who looked at the blade was immediatly reassured in their hearts of their victory. The Tanith gave a quick prayer of 'the emperor protects' and quickly hid under their camo-cloaks, waiting the impending battle.

Korva and his men had stayed themselves hidden in the thick woodland, waiting and gathering infomation. It had been a slow and steady process but Korva now knew the position of the Basilisks and that now the outposts had mortar support, getting to the colony to take out the basilisks would be more difficult than first thought. Knowing that a sacrifice of 50 marines would be a pointless waste he left 10 men with heavy bolters and lascannons behind as a last resort defensive tactic in case he needed to retreat. Next he sent 30 men back to headquarters and ordered the other 10 with him. Making sure that he had plenty of melta bombs with him and his men he ordered a slow advance through the woodland, trying to keep concealed for as long as possible. Nightfall seemed the best option for moving. Whilst waiting for darkness to come he ordered all his men to dim the gold and jewels on their armour with mud from marshes.

Brutra listened to the reports from his sorcerers watching Korva, he knew that Korva had plans to overthrow him on his final ascent to daemonhood. Brutra had his own plans for Korva, Brutra had long ago been given chance to be a daemon prince. Daemonhood was a step that would be attained soon, korva had recently turned to the path of chaos, once a loyal marine of the Retributers, he could barely understand daemonhood and took everything on a whim believing that the powers of the warp favoured him. Korva would soon understand his true purpose in Brutra's plan.
"He is on the move my lord". One of the sorcerers had entered the room whilst Brutra was musing his plans for the future.
"We will wait a while longer, the time to strike will be soon".

Nightfall came without incident so Gaunt ordered the men to post sentries and get some sleep, he then retrated to his command bunker with his retinue. 'Try again' Bragg was cleaning his heavy bolter. He is the only man short of a space marine who is strong enough to wield such a big weapon. Most people see him as dumb but Gaunt knew better. He was just restarining his mind as if he is afraid of what would be unleashed. Major Rawne was building some new tube charges, a highly explosive demolition tool. He threw a contemptuous look at Gaunt and went back to his work. Seargent Mkoll was standing sentry and the bunker entrance. Gaunt had never seen a man so good at spotting hidden enemies even in the dark. Colonel Corbec was leaning againt a wall smoking one of his cigars. Gaunt had confidence that he would take command of the troops if he was incapacitated. Chief Medical Officer Dorden was checking his med pack. Gaunt noticed that he was carrying a las pistol even though Dorden was a strict pacifist. Trooper Milo was polishing his pipes as if he was waiting for the order to play them. Milo was a strange person thought Gaunt. More than once he seemed to know when Gaunt was in danger and warned him of it. Master Sniper 'Mad' Larkin was sleeping in a corner with his long-las on his lap. Gaunt had never asked why he had a white cloth wrapped around his rifle but undoubtubly it was personal.

Back in the colony, the Basilisk crews were setting up their guns to fire when the order came. They were stacking up shells near each tank and putting spare fuel on the gun decks.

"This will be one hell of a fight when it kicks off" Thought the detachments commander before he turned in for the night.

Three days later, Korva and his marines had successfully infiltrated the colony. The basilisk crew had been simple prey, dead within minutes. His men were attaching melta bombs to vital points on the basilisks. But before he gave the signal he had a plan of his own.

Brutra called one of his aspiring sorcerer champions.
"yes" Baetorna replied. He had been a loyal follower of chaos since the so called heresy and the warp had bestowed its gifts upon him, augmenting his psychic abilities to an extreme level, he was not blind like most other psykers and sorcerers due to a mutated face. He kept a hood over his face at all times.
"He is planning something unfocused, dont worry too much otherwise you might die out there". If it werent for his psychic senses the lightning claw may have destroyed him totally as Brutra smashed his fist through the wall in anger.

Fire blossomed through the air as the basilisks and their ammunition blew from the melta charges. Korva and his squad were hidden far from sight by this time. Darkness was setting in again. Perfect thought Korva, soon would be time to put his plan into action.

Three days came and went without event, Gaunt wondered wether there were any chaos forces at all on this got forsaken swamp. He wondered wether this was a well constructed ruse to lead his men away from the real chaos attack somewhere else. He paced the trenches looking at the men. Any other imperial commander that would look at them would claim them as being undiciplined barbarians, as some already have. Long wild hair and tatoos, never be allowed in more 'civilised' guard units like the Mordian Iron Guard or the Terrax Guard. Simple plain uniform as well, black combat dress with the special camo-cloak that let them hide anywhere. Most of the troopers were playing dice, drinking sacra or cleaning their weapons. He found Bragg in one of the pillboxes.

"Morning Bragg, anything at all to report"

"No sir, not even a bird. No sign of life at all" he said while servicing his autocannon. He had 'liberated' the weapon off its tripod mount when the original owners had died. Gaunt didn't care, bad as his aim was Bragg didn't need to aim when he was firing with a weapon that spewed so much death. Gaunt left the pillbox and returned to his dugout. He was about to sit down and have a cup of caffine when the ground shook with several large explosions from the colony behind. He immediatly ran outside while drawing both his bolt pistol and his sword.

"Stand to!" he shouted and all around him guardsmen scrambled up onto firing steps and peered out into the dusk.

"Major Corbec report!"

"Sir the explosions came from behind, in the colony itself"

"Lotin, signal the Basilisks. Find out whats going on!"

"I can't get through sir, nothing but static!!"

"How the Feth did they get past our lines??"

"BAETORNA!!!!!!!!!!!" Brutra screamed through the shrine. This he had not been informed of, and someone would pay!
"yes, my lord" baetornas oily voice replyed.
"why was i not informed of this... this outrage!" Brutra growled.
"that korva was on the verge of betraying you, i thought i did, ah well". Baetorna dissapeared.

Korva ordered his men to start loading the ammunition they saved into the 3 basilisks that they didnt destroy. His own war altered body would not allow him to go near the imperial insignia on the tanks so he ordered his men to prepare for an ordanace barrage, but who would be his target, Gaunt or Brutra. His prophetic visions had shown him the future, but only to acheive this greatness layed out before him he must not make a mistake.

Now not trusting baetorna to do his bidding, brutra summoned his second sorcerer.
"do it now" brutra commanded. His sorcerer sent out his psychic lash to stop korva.

Korva collapsed to the ground. He then got back up and shook it off, and then he laughed at his lords thinking. The end will never be for a champion of chaos.
