Secularist Kingdom of Maraque Elections

Maraque

(OOC: I'm making this thread so the nations who vote will represent my population since there is no other way for that to be done.)

Polling stations across the 16 provinces of Maraque have opened and hopefully turnout will be better than last time which was at a low 16%. Campaigning under a party is illegal in Maraque so voters just go by what the candidates say.

Darius A. Shulze (current President)

Has seen the economy grow by 30% in the 6 years he's been in office. Created 220 million new jobs in that timespan, and has reduced crime a great amount. Also during his time in office has abolished income tax and kept sales tax at an all-time low of 3.65%, but has been able to introduce impressive welfare programs, make all education free, and centralize healthcare. Personal incomes have rose nearly $1,000 every year he's been in office, and the poverty rate is at an all time low of 1.81%.

Andrea H. Denark

She plans to increase military spending which has angered many citizens, she believes a centralized healthcare system was a mistake that only encourages leeching off the government, will strip back welfare funding. She also plans to increase income tax to 35% across the board, and plans to increase sales tax by 8% nationwide. She also says she wants to raise funding for religion and spirituality saying that the country lacks morals.

No other candidates are running... once upon a time there used to be 8 to 16 people going head-to-head against each other, but no one has been stepping up to the plate in recent years.

EDIT: I don't think this is in the right place... ? I posted it here the last time I had an election thread...

Pythogria voices it's support for Darius A. Shulze, and reccomends that you disallow Andrea H. Denark from running. She's a maniac.

Bump! It went on page two.

With the first of 3 days of voting, Darius A. Shulze is holding a commanding lead. Andrea H. Denark seems to be gaining support, but with her radical views it may be hard for her to gain the necessary support.

A nation needs a military not healthcare! a vote for andrea!
Pythogria

Pythogria wonders why you would vote for a maniac.

Pythogria spends 8% of it's budget on the military. Some call THAT wexcessive. We also spend 10% on healthcare. Some say we need more (and I agree with them.)

We question your logic.

A military is against the principles of our nation. If Ms. Denark is to be elected she may not even be able to get anything she proposes passed in the Imperial House.

Now, I'm not the leader of Maraque, but I do say that you need a military, if not to defend yourselves.

We make the proper adjustments when our own land is under attack. Fortunately for us, we've never had to defend ourselves since the founding nearly 500 years ago.

Well, should you ever be attacked, I wish you luck. You may come to us for help as well.

At any rate, ON WITH THE VOTING!

Thank you for the offer - although I don't think we'll be needing it any time soon. We're a rather neutral nation and have not made any enemies who wish to do harm... yet, but in the meantime there have been small-scale increases in military spending (but since income tax is 0% and in the negatives it still shows on NSE as 0%.)

Press Conference, President Shulze Residence

Fellow Maraquens,

It is my utmost pleasure to be able to serve you as the President of this great nation. I have upheld the values and principles set forth from the founding of the nation nearly 500 years ago, and will continue to do so for the next 6 years. [cheers]

The faith the people have in my ability to rule the nation has once again become clear, and I promise not to let you down. I will continue to make this nation prosper while upholding the values and principles we were founded upon. [thunderous applause]

I thank the Maraquen people for using their right to vote to make themselves heard and appreciate every last one of you, even those who did not vote for me. Turnout was an astounding 46%, the highest for our nation to date. Thank you.

Breaking News

DARKAAN MARAQUE - Just minutes after President Shulze gave his first press conference of his second term, a hostage situation downtown interrupted the celebration at the President's residence.

The suspects are demanding the President resign, or they claim they will blow up the building with everyone inside. Police outside the apartment complex say nearly 300 residents could be inside and that the suspects inside have to be taken seriously.

Nothing has been heard on President Shulze side yet, but supposedly he is to make an announcement on the matter later.
