The death of an Emperor (MT)

Kirisubo

the background of the Kirisuban News Network newsroom was different tonight.

The black and red Kirisuban flag today was a white flag and a red sun and was only shown during a period of state mourning.

the lights came on the the female news reader professionally read the report even although she was broken up inside.

"This morning we recieved distressing news from the Imperial Palace in Edo. His Imperial majesty Emperor Akahito, son of heaven was found dead in his bed.

The Imperial Doctor and a post mortem have confirmed he died in his sleep from a massive heart attack.

Crown Princess Fujiko is returning from a foreign trip to assume leadership of the Imperial family.

The Empress Miyu will be regent until her daughter returns. A date has yet to be set for the state funeral."

the background changes to show a photograph of the late Emperor and the legend 'Akahito, son of heaven (1952 to 2006)'.

the news reader fades out and clasical music plays as the flag of mourning flutters behind the Emperors photo.

###

all over the Empire of Kirisubo people went to temples and other places of worship to remember their divine Emperor. the Kirisuban flag was replaced with the flag of mourning and flown at half mast at government buildings and military bases at home and abroad.

Even Kirisuban embassies did the same all over the world and at the UN the Kirisuban flag was flying at half mast.

As night fell on Kirisubo, Crown Princess Fujiko sent the news onto their Gatesville allies and any nations they had embassies with.

They would need to be informed and the usual defcom was maintained.

Fighter planes still flew round the clock from coastal bases and radar stations were alert as they kept up their vigil.

Once the fleet was detected a pair of swift cherry blossom fighters were sent out to investigate.

ooc: how could your carrier fleets have got to kirisuban waters so quickly?

i'm not playing along with this because it looks like you just thought of this straight of the bat.

lets see why i would think that.

1) who would have 6 carrier groups with associated naval airforces and army units just coasting round the seas of NS. Not realistic.

2) you haven't done your homework on Kirisubo. we've got double your population for starters and a lot of friends. And yes we are part of the Gatesville Sovereign Protectorate.

3) if you are serious about an RP'ed invasion open up a discussion threat and plan it properly. Then i might play along.

Until then leave my thread alone.

some of your questions I can answer. the Shogunate however deals with questions about the military and they don't give answers very often.

Kirisubo is a constitutional monarchy with the Shogun and the council of Daimyo's in overall control. The Imperial family has an important place in the nation although.

Economically we're not doing too badly. theres no crime, nobody starves or dies from a lack of healthcare. Poverty has been completely eradicated as well.

culturewise we have some western influences. The major sports are Soccer, Baseball and Rugby Union. We still value Kendo, Sumo wrestling and other martial arts.

We live in harmony with nature and each other. the family is the core building block of the Empire. a lot of traditional practices are still around which visitors may find strange but we consider normal and harmonious.
Pythogria
29-03-2006, 04:18
Well, to answer our own questions:

1. We democratically elect a Supreme General every four years. This man (or woman) has power, within the bounds of a strict constitution, cannot change 3/4 of the laws, and can be overridden (and impeached) buy the people at any time.

2. Capitalism, no question. However, we do have some restrictions on trade, so we're in between moderate and capitalist. Slightly right-wing.

3. Pretty large, but not too large. 3% of the population.

4. State-of-the art weapons of our own design, including orbital weaponry.

5. We protect the environment at all costs. We are (arguably) imperialist, as we intervene in many situations. Nature is priority. Most of our people are athiest. As for sports, it's mainly soccer, and paintball, but almost all sports are played.

When it comes to family, the People are not Gria Islanders or Kyogre Tribians; they are Pythogrian. There is some friendly competition between nieghbourhoods and cities (as well as provinces), but in crisis, we are one.

Oh, also, good job on the crime aspect.

Chairman Ryouta Nagaraku sat in the rickety old turboprop Foreign Minister Mikel Aritza had not-at-all affectionately named "The G-Plane." The government-run airline Tejano People's Airlines had nice planes, but government officials were stuck with the "minority" planes the old government gave to the non-white cities. It probably was because all of them bought pimped-out cars.
Ryouta knew he was going a few days early, but he didn't want to stay in H-Town Tejas any longer than need be, with all the storms they were getting in their polluted swamp. The PRH-TT embassy in Edo was networked to New Fukuoka anyway, and he could work from there if it was totally necessary.
The G-Plane landed in the Edo airport. Ryouta undid his seatbelt and walked towards the baggage claim to find his ride.

The day of the state funeral came round and as the sun rose at the Imperial palace the flag of mourning was raised again.

By noon the state funeral would pass through the Edo city centre and end up up at the main Shinto temple where the Emperor would be cremated and his ashes buried in the grounds.

Already the imperial family was up and getting ready.

Crown Princess Fujiko had left her infant daughter Princess Aiko wth a maid and was helping her sister Princess Genjiko and her mother the Empress Miyu. Her brother Prince Saruji was getting into his dark blue Kimono and putting on his white silk Haori jacket.

already the Crown Princesses kimono for the coronation had been picked out for the next day but first she had a duty to perform.

###

Outside the imperial palace and on the route of the funeral security was tight.

a Kirisuban army or police sniper was on every high roof and there was a visable police presence. even in the early morning Kirisubans were picking a spot to watch the procession.

anyone around was wearing something white, the colour of mourning. most people were wearing a white silk Haori jacket, a piece of traditional clothing that could still be worn with a western suit although it was designed for a kimono.

###

At 11am the gates of the palace opened and the procession formed up.

100 samurai officers in traditional armour and swords flanked the gun carriage that pulled the Emperors palaquin.

the rest of the royal family followed close behind before they got into the open topped carriage which also had secret service agents dressed in armour and swords flanking them.

also beside the carriage the Kirisuban UN Ambasador was commanding the carriage guard on horseback. Samurai-Captain Kaigan Miromuta was dressed in his dark blue Kirisuban army dress uniform and the proper riding boots.

The visiting dignataries then followed and the procession wound its way into Edo city centre.

It is kinda late but he was held up in Ostia at the airport. He should be getting off the plane soon..

ooc: we can assume he's there already along with the other visitors.

ic: the Crown Princess knew the attention of the nation and the press was on her and the white veiled hat she wore with her cream kimono hid her tears for the father she loved and the man she would suceed as Empress the next day.

This journey would be repeated the next day when she would be crowned but she put those thoughts out of her mind as she comforted her 16 year old sister who sat beside her in the carriage. the younger princess was dressed like her sister and she knew her responsibilities as well.

It would be decided after the coronation which of the twins would be the heir but Genjiko was thought to be the favourite.

It wouldn't be long until they reached the temple as the funeral wound its way through the crowded centre of Edo.

the funeral procession reaches the grounds of the temple and stops, the samurai bear the Emperors palaquin and the Imperial family leave the carriage, following behind the late Emperor.

the other honoured guests, the samurai and Ambassador Miromuta procede into the grounds until they reach the funeral pyre.

the Palaquin is placed on the pyre and the side doors are now opened. the Emperor sits like he is meditating dressed in a white kimono.

A Shinto priest chants in Kirisuban and leads the service aided by other priests until the point is reached when the pyre is lit.

Everyone was given a white cherry blossom when they entered the temple and the Crown Princess goes to the pyre and throws her flower onto it. The rest of the Imperial family pay their respects and follow the heirs example.

Now it was the turn of the visiting dignitarys to pay their respects as the palaquin and the Emperors body burn brightly on top of the pyre.

Quite a few of these members of the warrior class were high rankinging government members and the Shogun himself was present.

Kirisubo
07-04-2006, 07:36
ooc: this funeral is very simple as are most Kirisuban funerals. once the flames have done their work the Emperors ashes will be gathered and buried under a tree in the temple. I'll be doing the Coronation late this evening which will be simple as well.

if you want to talk to anyone like a bartender or a civilian at a hotel feel free and i'll do the appropriate RPing.

ic: The service now completed Crown Princess Fujiko and the Imperial family returned to the Palace by a different route after a light lunch served to everyone in the temple grounds.

Tomorrow she would be crowned Empress and Daughter of Heaven and the line would continue.

She pondered these things as she relaxed in the bath house, Princess Aiko and Princess Genjiko beside her in the water.

Genjiko plays with her infant niece as she bathes the little princess and Aiko reponds happily.

Aiko now dried off and wrapped in a towel sleeping in a nearby crib was at peace as Fujiko talked with her sister. The 16 year old Genjiko was still broken up inside and needed the support of her older sister.

The VIP's would have returned to their hotels for the night getting ready for the Coronation at noon in the palace. Naturally it would be televised and everyone would have to look their best for the brief ceremony that would follow the religious service.

They talked until the water got cold and retired for the night.

Inside the car, the Supreme General told his driver, "James, do you know of any hotels in this area? Good ones?"

"Actually, yes, I do. The Arjiko."

"Well, let's go then."

The black limosine parked in the VIP spot, and bodyguards, each six foot five, wearing a black tuxedo, wearing sunglasses and ties, stepped out of the car, and surrounded the Supreme General. Bodyguards on the lookout, the General stepped inside the room. The civillians inside were stunned, seeing six of these massive men surrounding a very important person. The group stepped to the counter and the lead bodyguard asked, "We'd like to pay for the best room you have."

It turned out that the Imperial Suite was still unclaimed and the General was given the book to sign in and a key to the suite.

"Sir, the Imperial suite has a king sized bed with silk sheets and access to a mini bar. Theres also cable TV as well" a young woman dressed in a pale blue skirt suit and a white blouse tells him. her name badge says "Yuriko" on it.

"Also booking the suite gets you a pass to the casino, gym and the bath house if you want to use the facilities. All these can be found in the basement" she adds "I hope you enjoy your stay at the Arjiko hotel"

She calls over a bell boy whose ready to take their luggage.

08-04-2006, 01:27
The luggage is given to the bell-boy, and the General replied to the woman. "Ah. Thanks. And it looks as though I will. Very nice place here." He turned around and opened the elevator door. The bodyguards stepped in, and he was off.

Arriving at the Imperial Suite, unlocking the door, he almost gasped. This was almost as good as his home back in the Imperial Palace. No wonder it's called the Imperial Suite! he thought. He immediately brought two of his guards and was off to the bathouse. But not the casino. Gambling was against his nation's law.

when General Izakadbad arrives in the bath house he's greeted by a pair of pretty bath ladies who soap up him and his guards and lead them to to a whirlpool sunken bath than looks quite deep.

theres other pools there and Kirisuban men and women share them relaxing in the hot water. They sits there chatting in their own language and drinking green tea, coffee or sake.

One of the bath ladies asks if they want any refreshments and advise them that they also do massages in another part of the bath house.

They leave cotton robes for the Pythogrians so they can use them later on and one stays with the VIP and his guards. the Kirisuban woman dosen't seem bothered that the guards are so tall but she knows that the General is an honoured guest of the Empress to be so she wants to please.

Ah... he thought. This is the life... I think I'll porchase one of these things... he looked at the woman offering refreshments. "I believe I'll order green tea." he gave the woman enough Pythogs to pay for it. Pythogs are Pythogrian currency.

After a good time chatting about weather, economics, and having a debate on George W. Bush, all while drinking tea, the General grabbed a robe, put it on, and walked off to the massage part of the bath-house. He asked, "Is this where I may get a massage?"
Kirisubo
08-04-2006, 02:48
"yes it is Izakadbad sama" the woman answers politely and leads the general over to a table.

the massage chamber is about half full with a lot of people booked into the hotel for the funeral and the coronation.

Another woman gets to work and starts on his shoulders releasing the built up tension there. the first bath lady works on the balls of his feet and his lower legs.

the sun rises on the day of the coronation and the black flag with the red sun is raised over the imperial palace to end the period of state mourning.

today would be a happy affair with the coronation at the palace. The Crown Princess would have to visit the temple in Edo first and observe the required rituals before returning to the palace.

It would be a smaller parade and would attract less crowds on the streets since a lot of people would be back at work but with the power of televison they woundn't miss a thing.
