The king stood at his lecturn, awaiting the signal of the cameras. He reflected on the contents of his speech, and the import of the gesture he was about to make. Such a responsibility awaited him as to cause his breath to catch in his throat, but no sign of this presented to the world. He was calm, poised, and prepared.
And then the cameras were rolling.
"To the sovereign nations of the world do I, King and First Duke of the sovereign nation of Danerys, extend my greetings.
Twenty one years ago today, the Prusso-Austrian empire withdrew its claim to the lands of Danerys, and we once again became an independent nation. For those twenty one years we have remained in seclusion, rediscovering what it means to be dan Aeyr, the people of this land.
Having completed our time of seclusion and contemplation, it is with pleasure we rejoin the stage of world politics, a power in our own right, a people of import and measure, with goods to offer, theories to ponder, and a religion to share.
In this announcement we assert the following;
The Kingdom of Danerys is a sovereign nation first and foremost. We are no longer the servants of any nation, but a people set apart to our own desires. Any infringement of our sovereignty will be dealt with as an attack on our people, and our response will be fully conmeasurate to the offense, with no timid reserve.
We affirm the rights of other sovereignties as such, and shall not embark in efforts to infringe thereupon. However, any nation which endorses, harbors, or fails to control elements whose actions threaten the sovereignty of this kingdom shall have their sovereign rights discounted. We reserve the right to defend our people from any and all threats, be they here or afar, by all means available.
We affirm the inheirent rights of human dignity and free will, and affirm our commitment to the defence of these rights.
Finally, we attest to the reality of responsibility. All actions bear a consequence, and no right is absolute in the face of gross abuse.
Ours is a beautiful nation. The land is uncompromising, but to the courageous it holds rewards immeasurable. We invite visitors to attend our shores, to share in our culture, to bring new knowledge and carry ours to the world beyond. We invite the cooporation of minds scientific, artistic, and philosophical to better our nation, in the spirit of cooperation and adventure.
It is with pleasure I appoint Lady Catherine Gray to the office of Foreign Minister. Lady Grey is one of our foremost political theorists, a cornerstone of the efforts to forge our national identity. She assures me she is most eager to begin the process of forging international relations as well, and I cannot think of a better soul to begin our efforts.
May this be a time of great prosperity and exchange between our peoples.
Thank you."
And with that, the cameras were off, the address over.
"And after this, the flood." Stepping down from the podium, the king walked off for his car, which would take him to the foreign office. He anticipated a long, long day's work.
