The internal strife taking place in the nation of Palustria for the past months has begun to come to an end this evening when at 5:55 pm PST the National Republican Assembly declared the Democratic Republic of Palustria and ratified the first constitution in the country’s history. The document is derived from the US Constitution, the US Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. As law and order is restored throughout the nation, the newly elected President, Patrick Ostiguy, is officially inviting all countries to open diplomatic relations with Palustria with hopes to form strong friendships and alliances.

President Ostiguy has issued the following statement:

“As Palustria rises from the dark depths of tyranny and sweeps away the ashes of the old order in favor of the Revolution, we call upon the other liberal, freedom-loving democracies of the world to assist us in establishing a stable and orderly society within the borders of this newborn republic. The government and people of Palustria will respond with loyal friendship and support whenever and wherever it is needed by our allies, as long as it is for the purpose of furthering liberty.”

A Brief History of Palustria:

Palustria was originally a former colony of the British Empire. The town of Charlestown was founded on May 7, 1654 by Irish refugees seeking safety from Oliver Cromwell. Palustria owes its name to the Latin word “paluster” which means “marshy”, and it was a marshy environment in which the first Irish colonists settled. Palustria gained its independence soon after the American Revolution and was effectively ruled as a constitutional monarchy by the former colonial governor.

Between the years of 1824 to 1830, there were large numbers of French immigrants coming into the country, to escape the reign of Charles X and the restoration of the Bourbon Dynasty. The period from 1919 to 1923 saw increased immigration from Germany because of the internal strife taking place at that time. For a brief period, German immigrants and Franco-Palustrian youths clashed on the streets of major cities, with the Germans blaming the French for the conflict taking place in their country at that time. This animosity only increased throughout the 1920s and the Great Depression, reaching its peak during the Second World War. However, government intervention and the end of World War II saw a near dissipation of the violence, although distrust remained until at least the 1970s.

The monarchy remained in power throughout the 19th century and half of the 20th century, but as tensions during the Cold War rose, more extreme political philosophies became increasingly popular throughout the nation. Finally, during the latter half of 1968, a fascist putsch deposed the monarchy.

The fascist government was virulently isolationist and anti-communist. This was mainly in response to the French May and public sentiment against the Vietnam War. The fascists in control of the government feared of a similar Marxist insurrection led by French Communists infiltrating the country through the large French community. Any suspected Communist, particularly of French background, would subsequently be jailed and forced to denounce their past actions and the Communist Party. Starting in the early 1990s and after the fall of Communism, the country began experiencing democratic resistance that resulted in the weakening of the authoritarian government and the establishment of the National Republican Assembly. Beginning in 2003, riots and violent anti-government protests were common, until a republican coup finally overthrew the government in early 2006.

The people of the Democratic Republic of Palustria would greatly enjoy sharing their common heritage with the people of Cookborough.

And no, Palustria does not speak Franglish, although it’s learning French at the moment, and hopefully German in the future.

Official Imperial Message of the Empire of Kravania

To: Palustria

Dear President Patrick Ostiguy

The Empire of Kravania would like to congratulate your nation and it's re-foundation.

However, the Empire despairs that such an event takes place against a background of violence and civil unrest. Your new government is still new and open to attack, both by the former renemants of the old regime and by the possibility of a communist takeover or a terrorist insurgency.

The Empire of Kravania would like to offer Palustria the opportunity of becoming an Imperial Protectorate of the Empire of Kravania

Imperial Protectorate status would offer the following for your nation:

1.) Palustria would have FULL and EFFECTIVE sovereignty in ALL of it's internal affairs. This would include the powers to determine your own national budget, your internal security policies, your internal powers of taxation, your internal health/education/social security policies and your internal social policies.

2.) Palustria would maintain it's Constitution, only incorporating the Empire's Founding Imperial Proclamation in areas outside of it's internal affairs.

3.) The Empire of Kravania is an absolute monarchy, the Emperor is supreme. However, Imperial Protectorate status would allow for Palustria to keep it's own democratic system as that would fall within it's internal powers granted under the Imperial Protectorate status.

4.) The Emperor will be a symbolic Head of State, with no executive powers over the day to day running of the Government of Palustria, except in a time of dire crisis or in a state of war and the Emperor would only act if your government takes actions contary to the interests of the Empire. Your citizens only need to make a verbal Oath of Loyalty to the Emperor.

5.) Palustria shall share it's foreign policy with that of the Empire. Palustria would NOT have the right to declare war unless it's with the CONSENT of the Emperor. The same applies to Treaties and Alliances.

6.) Palustria shall benefit from TOTAL security against ALL threats, for the Empire shall be the guardian of Palustria. This will make your small nation safe against terrorism, war against other nations, invasions, espionage, internal unrest and subversion.

7.) Palustria shall have EXCLUSIVE access to the Empire's economy and it's goods. Free trade, development aid, economic intergration and market access are all the benefits that await Palustria, upon it accepting Imperial Protectorate status.

The Empire offers Imperial Protectorate status, for we wish Palustria a secure and stable, as well as a free and prosperous future in the international community.

With all the wars, terrorism, organised crime and instability in this world, a small nation like Palustria can only benefit from Imperial Protectorate status.

The Empire would like to infrom you that this is NOT a unconditional demand. The Empire does not seek to coerce or pressure you, simply to offer this in the spirit of friendship and future progress.

If you decline this offer, the Empire will accept that and wish you luck.

His Imperial Majesty

Emperor Constantine I

I would be ecstatic to join you at your Presidential Mansion to show my people that the great nations of the world are already offering to help our new government.

To the Empire of Kravania

Your Imperial Majesty,

Although the Congress is glad you are so eager to help our nation to become as stable as possible, we must decline the offer of becoming an Imperial Protectorate from the fact that the people of Palustria are fiercely independent. Now that we have the chance to govern ourselves democratically, we would not want to give up that freedom even if it meant our security. Of course, I would like to open diplomatic relations with you if it would be at all possible.

His Excellency,

President Ostiguy

Official Imperial Message of the Empire of Kravania

To: Palustria

Dear President Patrick Ostiguy

The Empire will respect your nation's desire for FULL independence.

The Empire will seek to protect Palustria from any hostile nations.

Can Palustria provide the Empire with a list of any nations Palustria deems hostile? The Empire can be an effective partner with your nation, if the Empire knows which nations are both allies and enemies of Palustria.

The Empire stands ready to help Palustria, should civil unrest and/or terrorism occur inside of your nation.

As of this day, the Empire will abolish all taxation and tarrifs on all trade that occurs between the Empire and Palustria.

May both of our nations prosper.

His Imperial Majesty

Emperor Constantine I

To the Empire of Kravania

Your Imperial Majesty,

The Democratic Republic of Palustria has been fortunate enough to not experience any hostile nations so far. I will propose to the Congress that we will abolish taxes and tarrifs on imports from Kravania as well so that our two countries will become closer while Palustria becomes stable once again.

... ...OOC: Well, well, well, what do we got HERE? ;) Another roleplay? Okey-dokay. I'll sign in. I'm the nation of Arfaras-Kaska-Kju. But I'll not post now, except for one thing.

--------------------------------------------------------------

From the leader of Arfaras-Kaska-Kju.
We do not (yet) endorse the nation of Palustria. We will send investigators to further ensure the intentions of this new 'rebel'-army seizing power. Wait further replies...as they come. Any signs of a dictatorish-coup treathening our nation, will be a lethal reply.

Sort of, atleast....
Heheheh. So longes *acid-gun shot at exit* :gundge:
Oh, wait, and last finish-line; "I'll be bach."
