The Van Luxemburgian Military
Vun Lëtzebuerger Arméi

The Van Luxemburgian Army (Vun Lëtzebuerger Arméi), are the main ground forces, and also the largest branch of the military.

The Army isn't quite offensive-orientated; It is more ready for Peacekeeping and defence operations, and cannot support a large war in a remote country. However, within friendly territory, the units can operate with great efficiency, and without any problems with logistical support. Generally, the order inside the Army is good, and there are little problems with the behaviour of soldiers.

As of March 2006, the Army has 11 million people as personnel, both Men and women, In a 5:1 ratio. They equip rather new equipment, most notably the advanced JK-1b Assault Rifles, and several other domestic designs. However, some vehicles are largely outdated and are staged for a replacement in the coming Ten years.

However, The vehicle fleet is large and well-maintained, leaving a large group of vehicles surplus for emergency situations. These vehicles, aswell as many stored weapons, might be used during possible nation-threatening military operations, such as an invasion on Van Luxemburg's soil. These vehicles are however mostly stored in their parkings, and the rifles lay meaningless in their storages. They are covered in Dust and insects, mostly.

That said, the Vun Lëtzebuerger Arméi can also be deployed rather quickly, with 2 of the 60 divisions constantly on a Deployment status, which means they need to be fully operational and away within two hours. The Divisions get relieved by another 2 every month, following the set calendar. Other divisions, outside the delpoyment status, must be operational within 1-2 days, after taking back all vacations inside the division and asking them to return to duty. Most soldiers live in the vicinity of the Bases (Set at Brigade-sized complexes), but there might be some exceptions. There is a possibility to hire houses/apartments from the Van Luxemburgian Government in the vicinity of the bases. Eventually, Soldiers have the option to file a request to take a vehicle or weapon home for a little while, but this is mostly limited to vehicles as Jeeps, Trucks and wheeled, unarmed APC's, which mostly fall under Divisional Logistical Command. Pistols and weapons are rarely given out, and the soldier must have a valid reason to take the weapon home. This might be for Self-Defence after an incident, or any reason the Commander of Base (CoB) considers valid.

An average Van Luxemburgian Army Member earns about $72,000, which makes them a Highly-paid, Highly-trained, Well-Equipped soldier, which has had a basic training of at least 2 years, with sometimes a specialty on top of this. This might be a Medical Role, a Vehicular Crewmember or a Combat-Ready Officer. All soldiers have personal gear, which is sometimes marked by themselves. All soldiers need to maintain their equipment themselves, with some exceptions. Rifles are usually repaired and serviced by the soldier himself, and monthly checked by an expert. This is also the case for their equipment.

Vehicles however, must be seen at the workshop after every training, so that the crew can mention any problems with the vehicle. It also has to go for a monthly revision, in which the oil and water will be checked, aswell as braking fluid and the state of gear and suspension. The vehicle will also be wired to a PC to check for any problems in the electrical and Multimedia circuits.

The Van Luxemburgian Airforce
Groothertogelijke Luchtmacht / Armée Aeronautique Grand-Ducale / Grousherzogliche Loftkraaft

The Van Luxemburgian Airforce is not big in comparison to other nations, but is well-equipped with new technology, or technology to be replaced in the next years. The crew is mostly trained inside Flight Simulators, altough they are obliged to fly at least 400 flight hours a year. Other time is spent on theory and practising on the ground, aswell as polishing and cleaning the aircraft and service vehicles. Usually, a Van Luxemburgian Aircraft is supported by some 50 men of ground crew (Identificated by their Reflecting Orange Vest model 4197a, with sentence "Ground Crew".)

All Aircraft are crewed by pilots working in 12-hour shifts. This means, that each airplane is complemented with 2 teams of Pilots, each forming their own fixed combination. However, a replacing pilot may be called up if someone has been reported ill. All pilots get their education on aircraft by applying to the programs making the pilot able to fly the aircraft in question. This means, that an A400M Pilot has followed "Large Transport Aircraft, Prop" Training, but also still has the possibilities to get his license for e.g. "Small Passenger Aircraft, Jet" (Which includes aircraft like The VL Airforce's Gulfstream V's or Dassault 900EX's). This is all free to apply to. However, no foreign manpower is took by the VL Airforce, neither by either one of the other branches.

Guarding of bases is extensive. All guards had a special training with either the Army or the Special Forces, making them able to guard installations with high efficiency levels. They have been armed with Special-built Steyr AUG and FN SCAR Assault Rifles. They usually wear a Model 6179b Military Bullet-resistant vest, which had a special camouflage colour fitted on, especially designed for the Urban/Woodlands combination the Airforce Bases are in. They wear a Darkblue Standard-Issue Airforce Shirt/Pants combination, which is visible under the Vest on the Arms and Legs.

Ground Crew: SIG-Sauer P250
Guard Personnel: SIG-Sauer P226 + FN SCAR/Steyr AUG

The Van Luxemburgian Navy
Van Luxemburgse Marine / Vun Lëtzebuerger Marine

The Navy is not one of the branches that had most interest during the reorganizations and by the budgetary decisions of 2006. After all, the Van Luxemburgian Marine remains a stable and hard force, but not quite enough to fully represent Van Luxemburg on The High Seas, some Veterans think. However, the VLM won't receive much more money from the Government, as it's monetary means are limited, and thought it did enough after buying half the fleet last year. However, most of the ships are still in backorder and are scheduled to reach operational level by Half 2006 at max.

However, the crews of the ships has already started trainings and expects to be ready before this deadline. Overall, Van Luxemburgian crews are well-trained and well-paid. The first delivery of the renewed Auxiliary fleet is estimated to be made in late 2006, while all obsolete ships will be sent to the Independent Colony Militaries.

The Fleet Air Arm has an extensive number of aircraft, sometimes even especially developed for them. An example is the ASC-8 "Buse" V/STOL Aircraft, which is mostly stationed on the Landing Ships of the Van Luxemburgian Marine. They also equip NH-90, Sea King and Sea Tiger -Modified Tiger Attack helicopters for AS(u)W warfare- Helicopters, stationed on most ships of the Van Luxemburgian Marine.

Independent Colony Military (ICM)

The Independent Colony Military is the protection for Van Luxemburgian Guyana Island, aswell as the Van Luxemburgian Middle-East. The troops are commanded by the Independent Colony they are stationed in, meaning the troops can receive orders from both the Colony and Van Luxemburg. However, the Colony has a more direct right to give orders, other than the Van Luxemburgians. The ICM mostly has obsolete equipment, but is busy approaching modern military quality.

Thanks alot Hrstrovokia! I have no problems with you using my concepts. It's only better that more and more start to use this (Realistic, I think I may say) layout.

Rlothen - Welcome! If you have't already, Read the Stickies. They are above every Forum page in International Incidents. Then, you could first start with making a sort of "Intro" Thread, in which you introduce your nation, aswell as exchange embassies. In that thread, or in another, if you prefer that, you can set-up your Army. Usually, it's better to start with Real-Life equipment, As it's cheaper than the NS Equipment, and buy Nationstates equipment later on.

However, if you already played this game for two months, you have a somewhat larger budget (Can be calculated with, I.E. NSTracker (http://nstracker.retrogade.com/index.php?nation=Van+Luxemburg) or NSEconomy on Thirdgeek (http://nseconomy.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy.php?nation=van+Luxemburg). Please replace Nation name with your nation name) Which means you can already start looking around at the So-Called Storefront's. They mostly sell self-designed equipment for your Army, which are better than most Real-Life equipment.

After you realisticly made up your army (Hints should be in the Stickies), You can start in an Open RP, by requesting if you can join. In a Closed RP, or with another prefix such as (EII) or (E20), this means that it is not-accessible for you, unless you signed up for it. You can however still read it.

This goes for MT, as I assume you are. It is mostly the easiest part to play. With FT, there are less designs floating around and you would have to design yourselves. This is up to you. I hope you have fun with NS!

Currently my budget is set at $41,237,104,043.52 for defence is that reasonable??

Any Recomenations of weapons and such?
My populations is 85 million as of this morning so i am caluacting my peace time army as 1,700,000 (2 percent) would this be accurate?

Yours sincerly and respectfully

The number you've given is correct with the number on NSEconomy, so I have nothing to say. The number is indeed correct. Now, judging by your NSUN Classifications, I would say that you're a bit democratic, and focusing on Defense. This means that 2% is OK.

However, keep in mind that around 9/10th of that will be logistics (1:10 Ratio), and that only 154,500 (about), will be available for actual frontline duties, which means being a pilot, Ship crew or Soldier. The rest will be cooks, Generals and other things.

I could recommend you using RL Equipment, of which nation is up to you.
However, if you are seeking something more powerful (sometimes more advanced and, most importantly, more expensive), you could better go with NS Equipment and try visiting some storefront's. RL Equipment can mostly be made by your own Defence Industries, this is generally accepted.

As you might've seen, I mainly use European gear. This is because I don't like the Mainstream US equipment, which is fairly unoriginal as, I would say, Most of NS uses it. My recommendations would be taking either Leopard 2 or M1 Abrams tanks, as they're generally the best. Once again, NS equipment mostly does better, but is more expensive.

Try Sites like http://www.army-technology.com, http://www.naval-technology.com and http://www.airforce-technology.com, they have a great deal of all available weapon system on their site, showing specifications of those, aswell as pictures. It could come in handy if you are up to organizing your own army.

Good Luck!
