Gwyneth Forsythe strode into the prefect’s office holding a thick folder.
“Good morning, Miss Forsythe,” greeted Prefect Cambrius.
“Good morning, Prefect. I bring some odd news.” Forsythe laid the folder on the desk in front of Cambrius. He opened it and scanned the pages within.
“Cotland has abandoned the Norfolk and Christmas Islands, yes? Might this have something to do with the Cottish pull-out of Australia?”
Forsythe nodded. “Yes, sir. It seems that when they extricated themselves from the entire Australian conflict, these islands as well as a part of the Phillipines were left completely unattended. There’s a report in that folder where Cotland all but declares the islands available for any who wish to claim them.”
Cambrius looked up at Forsythe and blinked. “And…no one has?” Forsythe shook her head. “Unbelieveable.”
“Consequently, the islands have fallen into complete anarchy. We’ve heard little else, since their media were silenced almost immediately.”
Cambrius pondered the information with a furrowed brow. After a brief silence, he spoke again. “Set up a meeting with the Praetori Legati for two hours from now. In that time, I want a plan drawn up for emergency aid and assistance to Norfolk and Christmas Islands. First and foremost we need to restore order and make sure people are getting food and medicine. Then we can set about planting our flag.
I also need a full report sent to Rome advising the Comitia Imperia of the situation and our response.”
“Yes, Praetor. I’m already on it.”
