This thread is a part of this one: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=462780

After living for 378 long years (physically he was a 102 years old) of this world Emperor Harald has passed into death, but his life had been full of achievements such as the complete conquest of the British Isles and Normandy, as well as they expansion of the Valgardian lands on the western continents. Yet also in his reign the Valgardians had discovered gunpowder, sailed around the world, came in contact with far away civilizations, advanced their steel producing methods to become the best in the world, and had brought the Valgardian Empire into a new age of prosperity and learning.

Despite all his achievements there was a major dispute between the two elders sons of the emperor. This dispute arose from the fact that they both had equal claims to the throne and as well they both had the support of many nobles and large parts of the army and navy. As for the dispute of the throne it was put to the side as the emperor’s funerary rights were occurring.

After the funerary rights were ending something arose, the dead emperor could not be buried in the Hall of the Departed Emperors because the Throne of Valgard, Crown of the Sea, Scepter of Midgard, and Imperial Sword had to pass to one of the direct line of the emperors. Until one of the direct line of the emperors ascended to seat as Emperor of Valgard the dead emperor will lay in the Hallows of Valgard until the day of the return of the true emperor.

As the day of the funeral ended a heated debate arose between the two princes Reginald (124 years old) and Harold (120 years old). These two princes almost after their father had been laid to rest in the hallows. The fact of this had not caused much controversy due to the desire of the court to put their emperor to rest with his forbearers. As the debate spread finally Prince Reginald left in anger after his brother had refused to withdraw his claim to the throne. With him left about half of the court’s nobles who were loyal to him or supported for other reasons.

When Prince Reginald left Prince Harold established his power over the whole of the valley of Valgard. While Prince Reginald gathered support around Valdra and sent messengers to his supporters throughout the empire be the messengers either be born by sea or by land. To counter this Prince Harold sent out a call to all able bodied Valgardians to join his cause in order for them campaign against the one who had dared to leave his father upon the eve of his funreal.

Thus the first kinstrife in the thousands of years of the royal line had begun.

Southern Norway and Sweden

Civil War Leader Profiles::

Prince Reginald as the elder believes he has the better claim to the throne due to the fact that in the past most often the eldest son took the throne, but there are not any laws that are in favor to his claim the throne. As well he has proven himself a more successful warrior and as well resemble the kings of ancient Valgard both in face and in battle. Reginald stands at 7’2.

Prince Harold claims the thronce because his father had favored him the most due to him being more intelligent, a better fighter, takes things into more consideration, and honors the old Valgardian ways more even having mastered all the old Valgardian tongues and writing systems. As well he bears the face of the of his father with grey eyes and pale gold hair/ Harold stands 7’9.

The Black Palace of Antanjyl was unusually quiet the day that the Valgardian Emperor had died, as a service was held with the nearest high nobles on the roof. It was led by the Deity himself, Emperor Galf, the Divine Emperor and perhaps the one being able to bring forth the high nobles from their petty squabbling to do such a thing. It was the least he could do for a being that he, in a way at least, considered a kindred spirit. If not in body, then perhaps in mind? The years themselves had something to do with this, but in these years the Valgardians and people of Antanjyl were never closer...

The rooftop of the highest tower was black as night, as the rest of the palace was, lit by a group of six enormous torches, burning a material which gave off an eerily green glow. The ambiance was important when one was contacting the creator gods, and as the robed figures stood in a circle, a large stone square was eventually brought forward, with numerous runes carved in. Along with this were two massive copper rods to capture lightning, otherwise known as the divine power...

Suddenly, the organs below began to play on cue as the first crack of thunder burst forward from the distance, as two robed figures brought forward the sacrifice. She was a young woman, and wore a stark white robe as she was placed on the stone block, a calm expression on her face as Galf stood forward and removed his robe, revealing his features. Though the woman flinched, her faith compelled her to remain still as the divine ruler spread his fanged lips to speak in an ancient, forgotten dialect. It was one of the original languages of Antanjyl, now only used by the priesthood...

"To all who arrived... I am glad that you all could make it here for this most holy of ceremonies, the funeral of the Valgardian Emperor..." Galf said in a darkly quiet voice, as he pulled forth a red tomb, made up of some kind of leather, the Original Holy Book of Rituals, "The Emperor Harald has finally left this world for the land of death and oblivion. Woman, what is your name?"

"Arilia... Arilia Demonte..." She whispered quietly, having already known what she was to say as she remained still.

"Please go forward into the other world, where you will protect the Holy Emperor from the clutches of Asmodee! Only you, a virgin of royal blood can confront the beast unscathed. Do you swear your allegiance to Emperor Harald, brave king of the Valgardian race?"

"I do. May Demundza take us upon his breath."

There was a sudden gust of wind atop the tower as the sky opened up and began to pour, a lightning bolt crackling across the sky. It was a good omen to contact the gods, which indeed meant the Valgardian Emperor was doubly blessed. Such good fortune truly brought the right ambiance together as the fires shot upwards and the music blared.

"To release fear..." Galf said quietly as he placed the book in the hands of one of the nobles and stood forward, pulling out a ceremonial dagger and removing the cloth she wore, slowly dragging the blade across her stomach and forming the rune of bravery. As the girl winced, he continued unphased, an almost mystical glow reflecting off of his red eyes as a nearby lightning bolt once more lit up the skies.

Over a half hour of the rune carving continued, removing not only pain, but fear, confusion, ignorance, and especially impurity. By the time Galf finished, the young girl was completely covered in the red sticky liquid, and Galf's hands had taken on the same color. Though it was painful, the young girl stood by admirably, fighting the tears of pain as a lightning bolt suddenly struck overhead, causing a burst of electricity to everyone's amazement.

"You who are without sin of taint..." Galf finally said, the nobles breaking into kneels at the young girl, who was shivering and quaking under the being's words, "The wife of Demundza, and Queen of Purity... We ask of you this, oh ever-watching gods..." He said as the organs below increased in volume and Galf held the bloody knife upwards, "May you accept this girl with open arms! May this sacrifice not be in vain! FOR VALGARDIAN EMPEROR HARALD!!!"

"For Emperor Harald..." The other robed nobles said quietly as a second lightning bolt smacked into the copper rods, buzzing from one to the other as there was a sudden ear-piercing scream. None of the men rose their heads as Galf finished the ritual, removing the knife from her heart.

There was a sudden pause as Galf leaned forward, rubbing a claw against the girl's chin as he delivered a slight kiss to her forehead and withdrew. As he walked for the door, the nobles slowly stood up according to rank and followed him inside, soon to be replaced by the High Priest to deliver some final good will omens before taking the body to Mosperiburg. The ritual was a success.

----------------------

Hours later the Emperor finished cleaning up and returned to his throne as the walls were opened to reveal the storm outside. A group of advisors were now kneeling in front of it, and with a slight move of his claws one of them suddenly rose. The fact that the Emperor sitting was still far taller than the man gave the creature sitting in the chair an almost divine look to him. The fact that everyone treated him like a God in the palace only sealed it further...

"I take it this is about the Valgardians? Have they chosen a heir?" Galf muttered quietly, in the dark guttural tongue of the Antanjylian Rashidi Religion, despite the aura of his voice he seemed more or less as calm as ever.

"Yes... It appears there is some conflict over the coming heir. I was wondering if you would like to take up a stance at this point..." The young man said quietly with a pale smile.

"Ah... No no, that would be disrespectful, especially so soon after the Emperor has departed. Let us wait for one of them to come to us, and allow the child to make any alliance he sees fit. As well it should, since our soldiers have yet to return from Europe."

"Aye, my Divine One..."

The news of this internal squabbling had reached the ears of King Karl von Urlhelm. A single candle flickered as the king sat in thought, surrounded by his advisors. One of them, Count Ulric Essenheim, pounded a fist on the scarred wooden table.

"We should attack! Now is the time to strike! The lands of Normandy are ours by right and by the grace of God."

A second lord, Baron Arnault D'Lyon shook his head.

"I disagree. A war with the Vlagardians could be costly and even go against us. They have good steel, and even that 'gunpowder' which I have heard of. We should back one side or the other, not attack. An attack could unify them against us."

Essenheim glared back at D'lyon.

"Bah! We will grind them into the dust beneath the hooves of our cavalry. God will be with us."

As D'lyon opened his mouth to speak again, the king held up a hand for silence.

"Gentlemen. We will attack. Access to the British Channel will undoubtedly be of use. The army will gather at Brest and Paris. Gott mit Uns."

There was a mumured agreement, albeit grudgingly from some. Rodenka was going to war.

The Prince Reginald has mustered a rather vast army of 200,000 soldiers, most of them being members of the army or being recently retired veterans. Yet his greatest strength was he had the support of sixty percent of the navy which would be important in fighting this war on the many fronts. Yet he did not have the support of most of the nobles or the larger cities (save Valdra) because he drew his support from mostly the costal areas and the farms.

Prince Harold has gathered his forces from throughout the empire which composed an army of 240,000 soldiers mostly of Valgardian descent. The greater part of the army supports him due to Prince Harold’s higher pay and greater benefits after the soldiers retired. In the cities he had built his support by giving out free handouts of money and promising to renew the building programs of his father and even make the programs greater then before.

As both sides had gathered their full forces for the upcoming wars between the princes, word had spread that already fighting had begun at sea between the massive fleets commanded by both sides. This indeed was true as already Prince Harold’s forces had begun to board Reginald’s ship and seize them in the hope to compensate for the smaller fleet commanded by Harold. The forces of Harold had already seized a number of ships, but the only way they could truly compensate for Reginald’s advantage in ships would be to destroy them at sea.

Hearing of his ships being seized Reginald had gathered 70,000 of his soldiers in Jutland in preparation for a campaign to take the rest of Sweden and Norway that he would lead himself. Prince Harold had gathered 100,000 soldiers in a plain along the coast of western Norway. This force would make an attempt to seize Valdra from Reginald because of its importance of the control of the seas around Scandinavia.

As a week passed the army of Reginald arrived in Valdra upon receiving the news a army of Harold was on its way to attack the city, but only 40,000 of the 70,000 soldiers were able to come to supplement the 12,000 soldiers already in the city due to being sent to England to engage in fighting their. Yet to Reginald’s army of 52,000 had come the full force of Harold’s host of 100,000 soldiers.

Working with the land army a fleet of 150 Valgardian battle ships overcame the 6 Valgardian battle ships in the harbor and blockaded the city by sea while the army of Harold did so by land. With the blockade all around the city no request could be made in order for Valdra to attempt to get reinforces. The blockade was set and all there was to do was to wait for the city to surrender.

In Normandy most of the army just kept watch to prevent rebellion from the recently conquered people and to prevent any enemy from daring to assail the land of Valgard. Yet they knew with the civil war there may well be an attack upon Normandy.

The princes infighting had caused them to forget the alliance that their father had made with Emperor Galf of the western lands.

The lords of Rodenka had brought their levies. Horses, men, weapons, food, and gold. Assembled at Paris was a garnd army, ready to pierce the Norman country side and destroy the garrsions their. Second and third sons, eager for land on which they could live would fight hard in this campaign.

15,000 horse, 20,000 infantry and 10,000 crssbowmen waited for the order to move.

In the early morning, the army began to move, outriders and scouts movign ahead and to the flanks as the long columns of men, horses, and wagons moved across the dirt roads and towards Normandy. Soon, there would be war.

For Rodenka:

In England the commander of Reginald’s army there had heard of the attack upon Normandy and had decided that he must send men from southern England to Normandy. The commander sent 30,000 soldiers of his 70,000 soldiers to assist in the defense of Normandy as well 20,000 soldiers of Antanjyl we there as well due to them never having been called back as that date.

As those soldiers were being deployed in Normandy the present garrisons became aware that the army of Rodenka was approaching due to the warning beacons being lit and from word of their own spies and scouts. The garrisons then began to send riders out to begin the gathering of soldiers to fight the invaders.
______________________________________________________________
In Valdra the assault had begun as the whole of Prince Harold’s army charged forth to the city’s walls bringing up great siege towers and mighty rams to break the gates and to seize the walls. As the army approached to four hundred yards away from the walls the infamous Valgardian longbow men fired their first volley and took out nearly a thousand soldiers in the first volley alone. Now knowing that the they within range of the enemy’s fire they soldiers took up ranks into a testudo formation they restarted their advance. With the arrows now barely taking a few toll on Harold’s army the defenders of Valdra deployed their gunners and fired their artillery upon their advancing enemies, but still they could not prevent Harold’s army from marching onward.

At least Harold siege towers had reached the wall and within minutes thousands of Harold’s soldiers were on the walls. The fighting on the walls was fierce and had claimed three thousand lives after ten minutes of fighting and injured many thousands more. The fighting on the walls continued on as the battering ram reached the gate. When the ram first struck the gate everything shock from the hit and for a minute everything was quiet for a second as until the ram hit the gate again which brought the gates smanshing in. Now knowing the gate was smashed open hundreds of Reginald’s soldiers fled from the walls to reinforce the gate and more support came from undeployed areas. Then just as the first defenders arrivied Harold’s army poured through the gate with great numbers and to reinforce them came men from the conquered parts of the wall. Now the gate was broken and the walls nearly taken the battle and the city belong to Prince Harold.

Fearing for the lives in the chaos already thousands of defenders had abandoned their posts and fled outside by now unprotected escape routes. Many nobles loyal to Reginald joined the fleeing soldiers. Yet still near the gates and walls fighting was abundant and already 15,000 had been killed or wounded in the fierce fighting in those areas.

Now the forces of Harold had routed those defenders who still had been on the walls and the defenders near the gate had been pushed back and many of the defenders had been captured. Fear had begun to fill the heats of the defenders and the number of defenders fleeing had grown to 24,000 soldiers,

At least the city had been taken when the citadel of the city had been overwhelmed and the remaining defenders having been killed, captured, or had had fled. The casualties for Reginald’s army were quite grim having lost 15,000 K.I.A., 1,000 M.I.A,7,000 captured, and only 29,000 of his army having managed to flee the battle with about a fourth of them being wounded. With the loss of Valdra Prince Reginald had lost his largest city and most important stronghold in outside of Denmark and England and the loss of most his army and territory in Norway. Yet for Prince Harold the battle was a complete having loss only a total of 15,000 soldiers, far less of what had been expected. As well he gained an essential place from where to expand his hold on Scandinavia and to build up his fleet.

Antanjyl:

As the war turn bloodier a message was sent by Prince Harold after the fall of Valdra to emperor Galf The letter came by sea and land through a number of secret means known only by Harold since the death of his father Emperor Harald. The letter read,” Of old you and my father held alliance that was strong and a friendship that was of steel. Now I ask you to come to my aide in honor of this.

I ask this of you because my brother Reginald has claimed the throne of the empire of my forefathers. His comes from that of being the eldest and that is it, while I hold the claim by virtue of my father’s blessing and as well of that of my name. To add to this there is a little known fact that my brother is the child of a Valgardian mistress and thus is not of the direct line of the emperor, which eliminates any right he has to the throne.

So I shall ask you Emperor Galf, will you five your support to my claim as true heir to the throne of the Valgardian Empire?”

Emperor Galf read the letter at dinner the night it arrived, sitting in front of a huge banquet in honour of a recent conquest in the West. Seated around him were numerous governors and leaders of the slave trade, eating of the massive roast bear that they managed to bring while it was still fresh, with other exotic delicacies of the time, such as otter stew and roast dolphin. All served on intricate silver, and a distilled wine taken from the nation of Ostia.

The letter made the inhuman being smile a bit, his toothy maw opening as he slowly moved another part of the undercooked meat to his mouth, chewing it as blood dripped from his chin. He always ate his food rare, having it cooked only rarely, and even then never for dinner. As the blood oozed from his chin, he slow licked it up and placed it delicately on the table in front of him.

When he stood up, all eyes rested on the robed creature, his deep red eyes focusing on each one of his attendants as he spoke in his dark, macabre voice, "I have glorious news... It appears prince Harold has come forward and requested our aid."

The room fell silent, minutes later being interrupted as one of the governors stood up and bowed, "Regardless my Emperor, can we truly spare that many soldiers? We have over eighty thousand in the west, not to mention the slaves..."

"Garion, you speak as if the Valgardians are some distant people..." An advisor said with a smile, his pale white hair in his eyes as he brought a jeweled wine chalice to his mouth and sipped at it, "Truly, they have been our allies since before any of us were born. Being a long lived people we can afford an alliance, especially as this Harald takes after his father. It is also true that a Valgardian never forgets a favor..."

"And should they lose? Our most prominent of allies might very well become an enemy." The governor quipped, taking a small spoon of stew to his mouth, "What would we do then?"

"Silence... All of you." Galf said quietly, as the room itself grew obediantly quiet, "There are many enemies in the Western Continent true, but our alliance is far more profitable than some short term conquests of land. We shall ask for a small favor of Prince Harald in exchange for our military assistance. Nothing too infringing, we will simply ask that he no longer expand into the Western Continent. He will not lose if our forces are there to assist him."

"O-of course sir..." The governor said with a bow before reseating himself.

---------------------------------
Immediately, a letter was sent in code along the secret route...

Dear Prince Harald of the Valgardian Empire,

After careful consideration I have decided to throw my military efforts to your side. Together we shall defeat and humble your brother, showing him exactly why it was you whom your father favored. In exchange for this I simply ask that your expansion into the Western Continent Cease, and likewise Antanjyl will not place any permanent settlements within Europe.

I will send as many soldiers as I safely can. Please respond with an estimate of how many soldiers you think I should bring to bare.

Signed,
Emperor Galf

A rather average looking man, unusual since most Valgardians are tall and great to behold, came running up to the Prince Harold sitting on his throne which was to the right of the emperor’s throne because Harold had not made his claim absolute before he would take the throne as his own. The man kneeled before the prince and then, while still bowing, the man said,” My Prince, I bring a letter from Emperor Galf in response to the one you sent him.”

One of the prince’s guard took the letter from the man and then brought it the prince. Who then quickly read and for a while after organizing his thoughts on it and then responded,” I shall agree to the terms presented by Emperor Galf. As well I shall request his aide in this civil war.”

Hearing this one of the members of the Imperial Council stepped and said,” We do not the aide of those of the frozen lands to help us in this war. Our swords are stronger and our greater then those commanded by the rebles.”

Then the Valgardian King of the Celtic Lands responded,” They have long been our allies, since during the mid year reign of Emperor Harald. As well they have proven themselves our loyal allies by providing us with soldiers that are still fighting with us.’

As the debate spread amongst the court the Prince at last raised his hand and there was silence. Prince Harold then said,” We will accept there terms and that is final.”

Prince Harold replied in this message,
I and my people accept, your fair terms for your support against my brother in this civil war. Yet I know that our further expansion into the western continent can only prevent north of the two teeth of the great sea surrounded by the land of the western continent. For this I can assure you of surely. As well I will provide support for your conquest of the rest of the western continent. As for your offer of troops I do not need any soldiers as I already outnumber my brother’s own army, but I request that if my brother forces make any moves in the Western Continent for you to keep your eyes on it though.

Each legion is based on a fortress which holds about 4,000 of the soldiers their and all the other 1,000 soldiers are at a number of different places maintaining the peace. Within a day’s time I probably could muster 15,000 soldiers in one solid army. Within two and a half day’s time I can muster all my soldiers and the 20,000 soldiers from Antanjyl. After four day’s time my soldiers from England would have all arrived.

IC: Valgardians ranger began to mount raids on small groups of Rodenkan where they were able to encounter small groups of them in either long grass or in forests. Yet the real purposes of these soldiers were to use hit and run tactics on the enemy and to monitor their movements.

The main army was being organized as already four legions were already fully gathered for the defense of Normandy. As well another three legions were coming to meet up with the main army. The following days since the letter was received were hectic ones, with the massive port city of Kinshash suddenly opening up with hundreds of ships enroute to assist Prince Harald or attack the lands of Prince Reginald. Most of the men were, however, fighting off the barbarians in the Western Continent, but still an eighty-thousand man force was dispatched. Fifty thousand of these men, along with a large number of their slaves, were sent to the lands of Nova Scotia, while the rest were sent directly to the Iceland holdings to be dispatched as the Prince saw fit.

The force sent to attack the Nova Scotia holdings were ruthless, and any ship in those waters that did not immediately move forward to submit to them was shelled by immense cannon-fire. The first target of this massive 50,000 soldier force, along with 30,000 slaves used for rowing in close-range, was the largest city of Nova Scotia(whatever it is). The city would be sieged as quickly as possible, bombarding all ships in the harbor that appeared to belong to the navy, and lighting larger buildings on fire to cause Reginald's forces to need to halve their men between fighting fires and saving people, and fighting the Antanjylians...

Meanwhile, within a small number of Antanjylian Fortresses in Europe, time slowly began to pass as their defences were quickly heightened. Their messenger birds were flittering across the sky in droves, delivering important information on what was transpiring in the rest of the Valgardian and Antanjylian Empire. With the help of a small port city, they also had a steady supply of food, and were preparing rations should they be attacked. For now they would wait untill the enemy came to them.

From the North, the Bear Shirt Tribes arrived, Berserkers.

Ready to support the more warlike of the brothers. The Chiftains gathered for their thing, making a pact, one that would last till death if neccessary, they would support Reginald. In that past they had respected his Father's military prowess and at his birth, given him gifts from their most skilled of smiths.

On horse and foot, from longboats and land they came with banners to Support Prince Reginald. At the fore of all the chiftains was the youngest of them all, Tyle of the Midnight Bears, his second was the oldest among them, Dar of the Moon Hammers.

The two were outwordly and odd pair, but the oldest of allies and the deadliest of commanders, their wisdom and fury combined had led them to seek greater and bigger things than raiding, they saught glory in warfare. This was their war, the war they had long waited for. Not to mention the pilage and certain discord that the civil war offered was not bennificial to themselves or their people, warrior first, then merchant.

Even as Tyle and Dar gathered their forces, Harold's supporters in the north threatened their villages in the south, by their mere presence. They would march on the north and secure the region to support Reginald, as well as garantee their survival on the rocky fjord's and cold plains. They would keep their families and supply routes secure and by marching north against Harold's nobles.

Once they had the region under Reginald's control they could turn the enitre forces of the North Regions on Harold...

To Prince Reginald a messege had already been dispatched.

Prince Reginald,

We supported your father most duetifly in the past and we aim to do that still. OOC: Psyker Bearzerkers this is a thread that is closed for a particular thread of the one that I mentioned in the beginning of the opening post to this thread. Yet if you want to participate I am willing to give you lands in northern Norway and Sweden as your own kingdom under the power of Valgard.

Also Antanjyl the prince’s name is Harold not Harald, like his father’s.

Rodenka my reinforcements are being sent from Dover and as one question for you how were you able to find my fortress so fast?

IC: Rodenka: The garrison commander rode out with eight Valgardin knights and came to the emissary and said,” By what right do you have to trespass on lands of the emperor of Valgard and attempt to wrest them from his sovereignty?”

Antanjyl: The Valgardians were happy to receive the soldiers coming to their aide in Nova Scotia because they had been encountering stiff resistance in the mainland and as well they were being overwhelmed by sheer numbers of Reginald’s soldiers. As well Reginald’s naval forces kept them from making advanced up the coast and prevented them from going down river.

As the Antanjylian soldiers began to arrive in other parts of the empire they were being put to use in putting down slave revolts, fighting Reginald’s supported, or in keeping the peace as Prince Harold’s army was overextended by the huge numbers of soldiers being deployed in the major campaigns on the western continent, central England, and in Scandinavia.

Yet the Valgardian settlers to that land make up about a quarter of the population and the Valgardians settlers make up the higher classes, but still are terrific warriors and fight in full mail armor and carry great axes/hammer/swords to war. Thus you can have a mix of a disciplined Valgardian army with a mostly berserker fame to it.

As for your leadership it would mostly be Valgardian because when they conquer an area they replace the leaders of a community with Valgardian nobles and since this area has been under Valgardian control for many centuries there is a good chance that the Valgardian minor nobles may have intermarried into the local tribal lines, but as a whole nearly all the Valgardians do not intermarry with shorter lived people due to the resulting children only living half as long as their Valgardian parents.

Though he was pure in Valgardian blood, a few of Erikson's officers dressed in animal skins themselves. He didn't mind, as he had chosen them himself for their competency and bravery.

The ranks he commanded were cheackered, mostly skins or lightly armored infantry. He had ordered all heavly armored cavalry dismounted to create an elite regiment, solid enough to hold his center line, then replaced them with the men and women of the most famed horse tribes avalible. Thus he had a larger amount of cavalry at his desposal, to offset his much slower, but strong center.

With compatant nobles placed in charge, he had an army that would fight with honor an fury. Ever a noble himself, the seven foot commander squeezed on the sides of his mare to get her moving. His personal standard raised, the army marched in near perfect unison, as Norway and Sweden marched south to support their True Emperor.

The Valgardian fortress was well protected with an outer wooden and stone wall, two thick inner stone walls, a high wall around the citadel, many tall towers armed with many a ballista and catapults, the food stores could last for half a year without fear of severe rationing, and stores of many weapons and huge amounts of arrows, enough to last any siege.

Erikson's army began marching at a swift pace. Most armies would tire quickly, but the officer's devotion and the berserker's thirst for battle, they were marching quickly on the south.

11,500 light cavalry and 19,500 infantry, his forces would move like thunder as they marched, and with the might of Thor Himself, they would strike swift as lightning and hard as any hammer. Erikson himself wielded a warhammer with a prominent spike on top.

They marched to the southern horizen, tearing up the sod as the hooves and feet of the brave warriors trodded. Songs of; battle, love of astids and valkeries and devotion to the treu emperor made the force cohesive and truely an immage of what this once united empire had stood for.

The beacons within two hours of being lighted had brought the news to Valgard and upon getting that faithful news Prince Harold dispatched a few hundred rangers to keep track of their advance and to assail any small groups of enemies that they came across. The rangers, though a few dozen had been killed, were mostly not killed by the charges because they only appeared in deep forests or in mountains because they would only approach the enemy closely when they were at a place where they would not be overtaken by cavalry and it would take a deal of time for infantry to climb up.

The first towns and villages they came across showed the army with relatively little care and ignored them for the first part. The traders were willing to sell them supplies and food.

Along with trade he also offered any of the young and able to join his ranks. The additions would be miniscule, but he prefered a representative force; a symbol of his Lord's willingness to be a great and understanding as well as connections in the village.

This was due to them fearing that the war would spread and that loyalists to Harold would isolate those that give Erikson’s soldiers shelter.

A battlefield to the south had been prepared. Scouts would watch for the enemy and before Harolds loyalist would be able to attack they would have a very fast cavalry based forced to attack on a high hill, there was a clear path to the hill but it was bordered by trees...

The army coming from the south now was within two days of the southernmost village of the land that Erikson had just taken. At the lead of this army were two thousand heavily armed knights that could decimate Erik’s less trained and more poorly armed cavalry soldiers. As well a direct charge into infantry by them could be devastating to whomever they face.

The more south Erikson extended his authority the more resistant the towns and villages became, due the sheer amount of people loyal to Prince Harold and seeing Reginald as a bastard king who could threaten the true line of the emperors of Valgard in he were ever to dare usurp the throne and claim the title as Emperor of the Valgardian Empire.

The soldiers from Antanjyl continued to hold their ground in Nova Scotia, building their own fortifications seperate from the Valgardians, as well as setting up work camps and execution grounds, usually all as far from the main cities as possible, to not upset the flow of life. Any enemy soldiers or other traitors(revolting slaves) caught were either sent to work camps to work among the slaves, or otherwise executed by impalement and left by the work pits, as a dim reminder of the price of treason or escape. The Antanjylian slaves however, somehow seemed to not notice this, and continued to work without fear, ironically turning any traitors in for rewards from the Antanjylian guards.

In Northern Europe, the massive coastal fortifications were still set forth, with small rows of pikes pointing outward irregularly, with guard towers placed between them to create death traps for any invading forth attempting to seize the mammoth, fortresses. Hundreds, if not thousands, of the slaves brought with them died creating them, which was an acceptable loss to defend Antanjylian pride, among other things. The corpses were either ground up and used as a type of salted ration, or tossed into large pits outside of the encampments and burned ceremonially, with a few words spoken by the Rashidi Priests.

Over the time that the Antanjylians had arrived, a further ten thousand naval soldiers, and three thousand of the Emperor's elite Holy Knights, six thousand Dark Knights, and four thousand elite Crossbowmen. Antanjyl:

Any travelers who passed by their camps did not really care about seeing the enslaved traitors because to them the people who waged war against Prince Harold had betrayed the true line of the emperors and attempt to put a bastard child on the throne. As well they counted there allies as friends and did not put any mistrust on them.

Yet the only people who would be shown concern were Valgardians of noble birth. This was due to that these men were considered to be the causes of the bloody civil war and thus they would have to suffer through an inquisition and a very brutal death if they were found guilty of treason, which would be nearly all the time.

The Valgardians in Valdra welcomed the Antanjylian soldiers into their city and as well provided them with a number of comfortable barracks and numerous amounts of food.

Psyker Bearzerkers:

As the sun rose in the east the Harold’s army began to awaken and prepare for the upcoming battle against the rebels. As they got up they went to the dining tents and the craftsmen began to sharpen weapons and make quick repairs to armor in order for them to be prepared for a long day of fighting.

The first of Prince Harold’s army began to begin the ceremonies of Valgard that were believed important for the preparation for battle.

The Antanjylians were pleased with how everything was moving along, and how the people treated them. The close ties between Antanjyl and Valgardia had proven useful, and had served Galf's people for centuries. As the men and women were left to die on the stakes, a few of the more important nobles would be shipped off to Harold, so that he may dispose of them more fittingly. However, dying of starvation, impaled on iron spikes, was almost always brutal enough to show the lack of mercy Antanjyl had for her enemies.

The rest of the kingdom was still centered on expansion, specifically into North America, but the most Northern fringes of Greenland were also targetted. While the Antanjylian armies moved throughout the Valgardian territory, her ships, seemingly seperated from the war, continued to move around as if nothing was going on, staying away from major shipping routes to prevent being seen by Reginald.

This was becoming too easy... Antanjyl was becoming a bit cocky as well, and with over half of her massive army away from the homeland, she was almost becoming outstretched. But with Harold and his honor protecting them from Reginald, what would they have to fear?

Then the army began to march towards any fort loyal to Harold they could find. To fight these rebellion three legions, totaling 15,000 men were sent to fight them. The battle lasted for a half of hour before the last Valgardian soldier was overwhelmed. Without even being damaged by this they continued there march.

Then at last they reached they Antanjylians defenses and began to form a battle formation. So great was the host not all could fit on the cleared areas around it.
