-The United Republican Military has publically announced that it has chemical and nuclear weapons of mass destruction. The size of it's stockpile is unknown, although a treaty with Turkey "officially" limits nuclear stockpiles to 50 nuclear explosives.

Charter of the United Republics

Article I: Purposes of the United Republics
The United Republics were formed to create and maintain peace within the Republican territory and the surrounding area, whether it be the Middle East, Asia, Africa, or Europe. The United Republics were also formed as a symbol of democracy in a land plagued by tyrants, militarism, and puppet governments.

Article II: Defense of the United Republics
To better combat these evils, the Republican Military must take up the task of maintaining a balance of power with outside threats, waging war only when the evils of war are overshadowed by the evils to be combated. The United Republican Military, despite any alliances, pacts, or restrictions placed upon the union, may create and use any means necessary to defend itself from harm. However, the military must also take into consideration the environment and mankind itself, using weapons of mass destruction only if absolutely necessary.

Article III: Membership of the United Republics
The United Republics are open to any state, dominion, colony, or organization wishing to join. If a territory wishing to join the United Republics is currently under control or occupation of another nation, whether friend or foe of the Republic, the United Republics must do everything in it’s power to free the subject territory. Nations, under no circumstances, may be forced to join the United Republics. To join the United Republics, the subject must be a republic or a similar government. Unless the state is under fascist or dictator rule, its government is acceptable into the United Republics. Once a member of the United Republics, a single republic may not break away.

Article IV: Equality and Humanitarianism of the United Republics
Although we realize that racism and inequality will forever exist due to the nature of mankind, the United Republics must strive not to enforce, legislate, or even support inequality in any ways. Segregation is viewed as the same, whether it be dividing public faculties or government aid to one group or race and not all others. The United Republics must also strive to aid others in need, realizing that they may not be as determined and skillful as the Republican citizens. However, aid must be given sparingly, for every man in every terrain may prosper as long as he has the determination and endurance.

Article V: Legislation of the United Republics
The laws of the United Republics are not to be harsh, segregated, overly judgmental, or against the will of the people. If public support against a law is strong, a petition signed by 2/3 of the population may overturn any law. If more than 10 petitions are given against a single legislative body, a re-election is to be declared. United Republican laws are only to be those in the interests of all the union, with 5 representatives from each republic present at each legislation. Independent republican legislation is more free, but must obey the supreme laws of the union and must not be harsh, segregated, overly judgmental, or against the will of the people, as it is with the United Republican legislation. Each republic is independent in its decisions, although if ¾ of the republics vote against a single republic, that law is voided. If one republican legislative body seems corrupt, it is the responsibilities of the United Republican Military and other republics to fix the corruption and restore democracy. Political leaders are to be paid the average salary of his or her republic and must not commit felonies during his time in office or ten years earlier.

Article VI: Economies of the United Republics
Economics are a constantly changing feature of the world and therefore cannot be legislated at a single point in time. However, at any time, the republics are to work together so that no one republic becomes much more powerful than the other republics. Each republic and its citizens are expected to work and produce at maximum efficiency despite the conditions and must aid other republics’ economies in times of need. At no time shall one republic out-produce all other republics combine and all republics are expected to use the same or similar currencies. At no time may one republic become indebted greater than it’s production capabilities over a five-year period. If at any time the government must take control of the economy, a ¾ vote must be given in each republic for the event unless under only extreme conditions. Government control may last no longer than five years and a re-election is to be automatically declared at the end of the five-year period.

the US pressures (nicely) Jordan and Western Arabia to decline the invitation as it could escaluate the dangerous tensions already in the region.

seeing as the US has provided a fair amount of aid to both countries in the past, and is willing to over each of them assistance in the future, it is hoped this will make a difference.

Egypt already has independent alliances with Germany, Jordan, and Syria. We also technically have an alliance with West Arabia (and Saudi Arabia for that matter) thanks to the Arab League. You can host the meeting in Alexandria and Egyptian delegates can attend if you wish but Egypt won't benefit from it.

The Scandic ambassadors to both nations gives them both folders full of pictures showing broken and destroyed Syrian, Egyptian and Rashidi divisions. The German Reichswehr asks the United Republics for a lease in the city of Akko to construct a Naval/Air Base there to protect both German and Arab Interests.
Koryan
14-04-2006, 02:13
I'm afraid the United Republics can not lease Akko. Absolute hell would break loose if Christians took control of most Palestinian cities (Richard the Lionheart is there is like Hitler). Akko was subject to a bloody and terrible massacre under his hands and thousands of our ancestors died to keep that land under muslim control.

Perhaps we can lease you land in the Negev Desert? There is much more room for construction and we can use you for testing in a few years for our first nuclear weapons test (wait, forget that last part :p ) Plus, the Negev Desert is much closer to any potential targets. As for naval purposes, we're afraid you'd have to unload your cargo in Gaza then take it by train to your location.

Amidst the chaos in Arabia, unrest strikes the heart of Palestine. Angry Palestinians flooded the city and began wrecking havoc on the city. Cars were overturned, homes and officies of Europeans were set ablaze, and thousands flooded the holy cites, killing white tourists and even destroying some Christian sites. The cause of the sudden and massive demonstration revealed itself at dusk - the Palestinian Liberation Organization. The leader, Yasser Arafat, gathered hundreds of demonstrators to the Dome of the Rock where he gave a moving speech:

" Less than 800 years ago, blood-thirsty Christians, hailing from Europe and Byzantine, stole this city from the muslims, who held it peacefully and allowed open worship by people of all faiths. We had done no harm to anyone and yet they stormed into our nation without warning and slaughtered our ancestors! They killed our men, raped our women, and enslaved our children! They defiled our holy shrines and cursed the name of the great prophet!

Then a great man was sent by god to aid us. Salah al-Din lead the muslim armies, Egyptian, Syrian, and other muslims from across the land, and freed our people and saved Jerusalem from the Christian oppressors. Yet now, the Christians has stolen our holy city once again! The politicians can not help us, for they think like Europeans and are no better than them. Nassar of Egypt supports the dying cause of socialism, Naguib of Sudan loves christians more than muslims and is ready to sit and watch the Europeans take control of the Arab World, and Ahmad Shukeiri, our very own president, just sits and ignores the Europeans as they infest our great city.

Today I ask you, as a fellow Arab, as a fellow Palestinian, as a fellow Muslim, do not let the horrors of the crusades be forgotten. The slaughters... the massacres... the crimes against the muslim people simply because of our beliefs. If the European soldiers are not gone in 12 days, let them feel the wrath of Saladin once more! If the christians want to launch another crusade, we will show them that Islam is not afraid. Allah has created us. Muhammad has guided us. Europe shall not destroy us!"

With the end of his speech, the crowd cheered. The man, a no body just minutes earlier, was now the symbol of Palestinian Liberation. The fate of the organization, however, was uncertain.

The PLO dealt another devastating blow to order in western Palestine when a suicide bomber destroyed the entrance to St. George's Cathedral, killing two security guards and injuring 3 civilians. An attempted car bombing of Church of the Holy Sepulchre that same day failed but did serious damage to the eastern corner of the building. Athough the car hit the building, the bomb failed to go off, perhaps saving the church. These are just two of the many strings of anti-Christian attacks due to the UN control over Jerusalem.

In hopes of restoring order, President Shukeiri has sent two Light Infantry Divisions to Jerusalem and declared martial law. This stirred up much political controversy, on whether Palestine has the right to send soldiers into Jerusalem or declare martial law. Shukeiri defends his actions by stating that the people being killed in Jerusalem are Palestinian and that the Palestinian government has the right to protect Palestinian citizens.

Guerrilla warfare erupts in the streets of Palestine between Palestinian troops and PLO supporters. Despite the army’s obvious advantage, the PLO’s homemade grenades and cheap firearms seem to overpower the soldiers as they are forced back nearly three blocks before the Egyptian Air Force arrives. Jet fighters blast apart the PLO crowd and destroy multiple surrounding buildings before zooming back to the Nile Valley. With the extreme damage and nearly ¼ of the rioters dead or severely wounded, the Palestinian soldiers take the upper hand and manage to arrest nearly 200 rioters. Palestinian President Shukeiri immediately challenged Egypt’s authority to attack Palestinian civilian targets, citing that he only requested slight air support, not an entire street of rubble and dead bodies. President Nassar simply replied that the only way to stop terrorists is to show them true terror. The total death toll of the day is estimated at over 1,400 dead and over a thousand injured. In addition, nearly fifteen million dollars of damage resulting from PLO grenades and the Egyptian air strike has been filed, with an addition two million estimated for repairing the demolished road and damaged sewer system below.

Arafat, self-appointed leader of the PLO, broadcasted a live message to the people of Palestine the next afternoon, appearing on three different television stations and six radio stations. In his message, Arafat threatened to destroy the corrupt Palestinian government without mercy if they attacked PLO protesters once again and this time even threatened Egypt, saying that the British and French had corrupted them and “westernized” the government. Egyptian president Nassar, in his public announcement that afternoon, told his people that if the PLO even tried to attack Egypt, they would be crushed instantly.

The Egyptian and Palestinian governments have been thrown into a state of near chaos after yet another PLO demonstration and an attempted double coup. It started with a PLO demonstration in Egyptian-controlled Gaza, which was taken from Palestine after the Arab-Palestinian War and never returned, despite promises by Nassar. As the marchers neared the Gaza Strip border, Egyptian tanks and artillery opened fire upon the protestors, killing an estimated 200 people and wounding 120 more. The shelling accidentally set fire to a Palestinian suburb, leaving twelve families homeless. The Palestinian President demanded that Nassar apologize for the strike and arrest the general responsible. Nassar refused and threatened to use any force necessary to prevent a PLO demonstration in Egypt.

The PLO struck back the following week in an unexpected strike at the leaders of both governments. Palestinian President Ahmad Shukeiri, a maid, and two security guards were killed Monday after a bomb exploded in Skukeiri's office. The bomb was believed to have been planted by the maid, although her identity and reasons for the accusation have yet to be released. The next day, PLO supporters and anti-Nassarists teamed up in an attempted coup of Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser. The coup was led by Egyptian Prime Minister Anwar Sadat, a left-wingist and opponent of Nassarism. President Nassar was arrested by his own security guards but was rescued by Egyptian forces less than an hour later. Sadat, believing Nassar to be dead, had proclaimed himself leader of Egypt and begun an extermination of his political opponents. During the purge, Sadat was stabbed by an unknown Egyptian civilian and bled to death after doctors refused to help him at the nearest hospital. The extermination turned against rebel forces that night as Nassar gave a public announcement, confirming his survival and control over the government. Nearly 150 expected rebels have been executed already and connections to the PLO were quickly made, although whether any evidence has actually been found is debatable. None-the-less, these two days of chaos quickly proved that the PLO isn’t as unorganized and weak as many thought and has many allies within the Republics.

Note: Palestine currently has no president. The senate will act as both legislative and executive branches until the next election.

1956 Space Launches

The Arab League began its first space missions this year, conducting five missions. The first three were unmanned, using newly developed rockets. After the success of these rockets was confirmed, two launches containing animals, first a housecat to determine safety, then a chimpanzee to study the effects on humans. If they were successful, manned missions were planned to begin the next year, with ALSA striving to put something in orbit (Sputnik-style mission) by 1960.

All three unmanned missions were successful, leaving the launch pad in Socotra without any issues, and acheiving escape velocity. Dates were January 12th, January 28th, and February 17th. The first mission, funded by Syria, and a hot issue in the Syrian legislature, likely played a big role in the recent elections. (ooc: when I post them)

The first animal mission, scheduled for the 6th of September, was the first failure of the program. Due to a fault in the rocket, it exploded shortly after liftoff, slightly damaging the launch facilty, which was hit with debris, and killing its feline passenger.

The final launch was delayed until the facilities were repaired, and the safety of the passenger could be guaranteed. On November 3rd, the rocket took off without incident, entering space and returning its passenger alive, albeit shaken.

The Republic of France would like to conduct a diplomatic visitation of goodwill to the UR following the recent unfortunate attitude the UR has taken about France during UN disscussions about the Belgian Congo. It is hoped that the continuation of this attitude can be averted.

The UR assures the French Republic that it does not see this as a blow to our relations. We apologize for comments about France's former imperialism, as we may sometimes be harsh in ensuring that Africans are freed from imperialism.

The Fate of Palestine
With the rise of the PLO, the United Republican governments ordered for a poll to be held among the Palestinian population over the future of Palestine. People in southern and central Palestine joined Jordan to form Transjordan. Northern Palestine voted to join Syria, and finally the Negev Desert remained part of the UR due to foreign bases and diplomatic reasons. The transfer of power shall take place at the beginning of 1960.

In 1958, The United Republics signed a 10-year pact with Turkey to help prevent a nuclear arms race from erupting. The terms of the pact are:

-No more than 50 nuclear weapons held by either nation (which is already plenty, anyway)
-The nuclear weapons will not be used aggressively by either nation
-The UR will not give nuclear weapons to any Arab nations
-Turkey will not give nuclear weapons to any Turkish nations
-The UR will not launch an aggressive war against Turkey
-Turkey will not launch an aggressive war against the UR

Victory for the Right-Wing / Nassar still manages limited-party Elections
In a stunning victory for the slowly vanishing right-wing of Egypt, Parliament denied Nassar's request for a single-party government 13 to 9. Although they did pass a secondary request for a limited-party government 12 to 10, this marks one of the first defeats of Arab Socialists since Nassar's rise to power nearly a decade ago. With elections coming up in 1960, the future of Arab Socialism may be at risk.

Egypt's First Nuclear Test

In early 1961, Egypt performed its first nuclear explosion in an underwater nuclear test in the Indian Ocean. The test was to decide whether an underwater nuclear blast could destroy an enemy fleet without causing serious effects on civilian coasts or the marine life in the area. Scientists concluded from the test that an underwater nuclear blast wouldn't eliminate a full enemy fleet but could cause serious damage to it and take out some enemy vessels. There was also no evidence that radiation or other such side effects would harm civilians on nearby coasts or marine life in the area.

Egypt is asked by the Scandic Union to not get involved in the current Turkish-Greek dispute after word of large Egyption deployments in Syria are noted. It is pointed out that it would only take a single missile place at Aswan to wpe out the whole Egyptian nation, and that is not something the SU will shy from doing if it has to to save its ally Turkey from being torn into by your armies.
