Silgal System
The Silgal System is home to 5 planets, 2 gas giants and 3 smaller, rocky planets; only Khiandeost, the second planet, is inhabitable. The core planet of the Confederacy, Khiandeost is an Earth-like planet with 3 major landmasses that exist over nearly half of the surface, the other half is made up of 4 oceans. Other than geography and landscape, Khiandeost, in terms of atmosphere and weather patterns, is nearly identical to Earth. The difference between Earth’s diameter and that of Khiandeost’s is negligible. Silgal, the system’s star, is an average sized yellow sun.
The Confederacy controls three systems other than Silgal; Arries, Yblehs, and Enneyehc. Arries is home to two inhabited planets, Asutha and Askrha, both colonized by Khiandeostans. Yblehs is home to the Confederacy’s major industrial power and second most populated planet, Haygan. Enneyehc contains the last planet held by the Confederacy, Nygioth, which is dominated by Nygans, Nygioth’s indigenous sentient species. The Nygan people live under Khiandeostan rule with relatively negligible opposition.
Government
The Confederacy is governed by an oligarchic committee called the Argham Assembly, which has ten chairs. Assemblymen are elected by the people and retain their chair until death, resignation, or impeachment. All federal government decisions are made by a vote of the Assembly, each assemblymen having one vote, the Chairman of the Assembly having two. The Chairman of the Assembly title is awarded to the longest standing member of the Assembly. Any member of the Assembly can propose a draft to be considered upon in Assembly vote, and a fifty one percent majority is required for it to be effected into law.
Provincial Government
Provincial systems are similar in structure to the Assembly system, the differences being in the laws that Provincial Assemblies are given power to effect, and that they operate on local basis.
City Government
Cities are governed by an even more local District Assembly, which operates, for the most part, in the same manner as federal and provincial assemblies.

Calendar: The Khiandeostan calendar is based on one solar revolution of Silgal. This revolution occurs every 334 days. Days are based on the rotation of Khiandeost; one rotation is completed every 23.7 Terran hours. Khiandeostan hours are based on this rotation, making a Khiandeostan hour slightly shorter than standard Terran hours. There are seven months in the Khiandeostan year, the odd numbered months having 56 days, the even, 55 days. There are roughly 7 weeks per month.

National Holidays:
-New Year-
Held on the last night and the first day of the year, the New Year celebration consists of all manners of festivities, including brilliant fireworks and light shows, as well as displays of great skill by military mech pilots. A great festival is held in all major cities, with food, dancing, and drinking. This is the only day of the year where public drinking is made legal, and many millions of people capitalize on the opportunity. NOTE: Drinking is permitted as long as the intoxicated person does not operate a conveyance.
-The Reclamation Festival-
A week long event held in the second week of Krahngal, the Argham Festival is a celebration of the uniting of the eight original territories of Khiandeost into a planet-wide Confederacy in the year 2874 BR (before-reclamation) under the ideals of Kamus Argham, a brilliant politician and gifted orator.
-Argham Day-
Christened a holiday in honor of the work of Kamus Argham, who died shortly after seeing his dream of a united Khiandoest come true.
Cuisine: Khiandeostans enjoy a very illustrious and varied choice of food, including many Terran dishes such as BBQ Ribs, Sushi, Enchiladas, Hamburgers, etc… Native dishes include rarities such as roasted ostan dragon toes and spicy aams, which are fruits.
Fashions: Suits, coats, and slacks are the traditional attire for men and long dresses for women in the upper class society. Lower class trends are geared more toward shirts and pants for men, and blouses and long skirts for women.
Entertainment: Vid movies are a large industry in Khiandeost, as well as vid shows. Many amusement parks are scattered throughout the Confederacy, and ‘hotspots’ such as beaches and ‘coldspots’ such as ski resorts attract tourism. Gambling is legal in sanctioned areas, and is a large industry. VR holo-games are an expensive pastime, but are popular nonetheless. Many upper-class citizens own a holo-room, into which a VR world can be programmed.
Sports: Khiandeostans enjoy a robust sports sector of their economy, with new-age automotive racing and the Immortal Challenge dominating the spotlights. Auto racing consists of many different categories, including drag, stock car, and formula-one. In the Immortal Challenge, men and women compete in an arena with weapons of their choosing. Everything from swords to guns to mines is legal. Just before a competitor is struck dead by an opponent’s weapon; material transporters teleport the competitor to a respawn point within the arena. The respawn points are selected randomly.
Education: The public school system in Khiandeost is well funded and up to intergalactic standards. Students learn in several different subject areas, including: mathematics, science, arts and entertainment, history, and intergalactic politics. Students are schooled via consoles installed in their homes from the age of 3 to the age of 15, when they are considered adults.
Colleges and Universities: Universities are for the elite and privileged of Khiandeost. Colleges are for the less so, students who can ill afford the higher prices of universities or who lack the intelligence to have scholarships awarded to them.
Religion: Religion is encouraged by the Federal government of Khiandeost. There are many diverse religions in Khiandeost, including Christians and other forms of Terran religion, Pre-Reclamationists, Sioners, Belgardists, and Damas. PRs, as they are called, practice a complex code of morals that several of the Eight Territories preserved. Sioners and Belgardists are virtually the same in that they too practice a complex code of morals, with the exception that these morals were “conceived” by new age “prophets.” Religious organizations are encouraged to have public functions and reach out into the communities of Khiandeost. Special subsidies are awarded for certain acts by some religious organizations.
Population Diversity: There is only one major race in Khiandeost, the Khiandeostans themselves. The average Khiandeostan is very Terran-like; men are around 6;2’’, and weigh around 185lbs. Women are normally around 5;10’’ and weigh around 128lbs. Common physical traits are blue or grey hair, eyes are usually blue or grey. Nygans, the indigenous species of Nygioth, make up only 2% of the Confederacy’s population.
Population Density: Most of the inhabitants of the Confederacy are found in the Silgal system.
Brief History: Originally, Khiandeost was dominated by eight civilizations; now know as the Eight Territories. The Territories were in constant conflict along their borders, and an ever-present struggle to gain supremacy consistently heightened the military power of each. For 2,000 years arms race continued in a stalemate, but when one of the territories successfully created a ‘mutual defense satellite’ capable of launching enough nuclear warheads to wipe away the surface of Khiandeost twice, the dead-lock was broken. One territory possessed an indisputable supremacy over the other seven, and when it would not share its space technology, even with an allied territory, a great war seemed inevitable. That was, until 35 year old philosopher Kamus Argham began published his life’s work, The Invisible Hand, a collection of 17 essays detailing a political system that would unite all of Khiandeost under one government. The territories were extremely reluctant at first, but Argham campaigned throughout the territories, winning the hearts and minds of people everywhere. To the average citizen, Argham’s idea of uniting their world through the forming of a central government was far more desirable than a war that would likely destroy much of it. To the existing governments, it was heresy. After two years of public speeches, Argham was jailed by the authorities of one of the territories under charges of seditious speech and treasonous plotting. Stunned and outraged, Argham’s supporters (about half of the population of Khiandeost) cried out in protest. Angry mobs rioted through the streets and protestors petitioned the governments of all of the Eight Territories to release Argham. On 34’7’2873 BR, after two months in captivity, Argham was released. Three months later, on 07’2’2874 BR, the Eight Territories relinquished power of Khiandeost to the newly formed Argham Assembly, named in honor of its conceiver, Kamus Argham. This serious of events came to be known as the Reclamation Period. Five months later, Argham died. In honor of the new unity, a new calendar was developed. The year count was begun anew, starting with 1 PR (post-reclamation). The new goal of the fledgling military of the Confederacy of Khiandeost was to begin a space program that would reach out into the heavens. Space flight soon developed, and after that, FTL drives, with zero-point energy as the source of fuel.
