The Dauntless slid through the dark waters into the sheltered bay that housed the British fort of Port Royal, the resting grounds of the Royal Navy in North America. Her crew milled around on her broad wooden deck as they went about their jobs and preparations for docking.

Governor Lucius stood watching his newest shipment from England arrive with some satisfaction and pride. It was a great ship he had just acquired, made of steady oak and housing thirty-six guns, running on three masts of sails and with a sculpture of his Majesty on the prow.

But with the arrival of the new ship, the departure of an older frigate began, loaded with fresh soldiers being transported to Ontario. Hopefully the British on the mainland were having as jolly a time as those out on the island.

In Oswego (ontario) Onasakenrat ('White Feather') chief of the region stood high on a cliff south gazing out on the horizon. He had just finished an offering to the creator and said slowly,

"Many redcoats and french come...may i make the decisions for my people well in the near future, the smoke shows war..death..pain and suffering lie ahead..watch over us great creator, i will follow the path you set"

He turned, sighed, then headed back down the path to his villiage and took a deep breath of air, the forest smelt so fresh and clean. The village was at the base of the cliff he stood on, childern ran around playing, women tanned hides and sewd, men nodded to him out of respectas he passed by.

Cheif Tesk stood on the hill overlooking his village, "A red sun rises, he said, blood shall be shed, bones shall be broken, promises shall be made and broken, enemies shall be made, freindships ripped apart, and the outlanders strange fire tools will crackle". His daughter, Tira sat beside him, "It cannot be that bad father, she said, surely some of these outlanders will be not all bad". "Perhaps, answred Cheif Tesk, but many of them shall as a fire before a forest, burning and destroying all in there path". "I fear for the Earth Mother, these outlanders will bring new sickness, hunt the game, and clear her many lush forests". "This once fair land shall catch sick, just as us". "Come, let us return to the village". So the two walked the winding path to the village of Taralk.

White feather passed up and down the lines of training warriros. The Mohawk nation was preparing for war, a war like north america had even seen before, it was rumored the brittish were a mighty force worth making an alliance with.

Hundreds of weapons were being made for the warrirors. All they did for the longest time was pray and make offerings to the creator to grant peace to the land and to be rid of the white man.

The French governor sat in his office in Montreal, having a quick conference with the new general: Guillaume Demeillant.

On these words, the governor left to his lunch, leaving the general Demeillant pondering his mission. Diplomacy was not his strength. He would need help.

OOC: Keltoi, please use English will you? :p

IC: Ahagutama, "Three Wolves", raised his tomahawk, and gave the final blow. Young Englishman who had managed to stand on his knees and even raise his sword despite the horrendous wounds he had already had fell to right, his skull broken by the Mahican war axe.
The last thing his eyse captured from this earth was the scene of slaughter all around him. 58 settlers and 25 redcoats that had been ordered to escort them lay on the small open place between tiny river and the woods. Many of them had Frenchmade musketballs in their bodies, other had been pierced by arrows, and the rest beaten on the ground with knives and tomahawks.

Ahagutama, the leader of these 80 Mahicans that had committed this ambush as well as the whole tribe of few thousand indians, was quite pleased. The muskets they had bought from the French were good, very good. His men had also performed very well - he had trained them extensively to achieve higher level of discipline so that they would fight better as a unit, instead of just series of attempts to show individual bravery. This had now payed back - his men had patiently waited for his order and then worked as one. Volley, arrow peppering, assault from all sides in very fast and effective manner.

He knew that these skills would be needed. Due the traditional good relations with the French, growing British influence on the region was generally very hostile to his people, and he was assured that a full scale armed conflict with the hated Long Knives in Red would sooner or later follow. For that, his tribe and its warriors should be prepared. First step would be to get more muskets from the French. A messenger would be sent.

Fort Lyon, Ontario

Colonel Lorraine, commander of the garrison stepped out of his lodgings and into the center of the fort. There were fewer that 500 French troops and nearby there were 300 or so Canadian Militia. There were several settlements with about a total of 600 settlers and colonists that he had to protect. He was a tough but fair commander and his men loved and respected him. He was a veteran of fighting in the Americas. He was adept to fighting in the dense forests. And knew several native tounges as well. He would do anything to protect these lands from the British and American colonists, this was his home.

Lorraine put on his hat and walked about. The fort was relaxed, men sat about playing cards or laughing. It was a day to relax and forget about the troubles of a soldier. Captain Massena approached and saluted.
"Good morning Colonel Lorraine" said Massena
"Ah, Capitaine Massena, how are you this morning?" he asked
"I'm am just fine Colonel, it seems the men are in good spirits today"
"Yes, it does seem that way."

The two continued to walk and chat when a rider approached, the horse was near death and the rider exhausted. He dismounted and saluted.

"Colonel Lorraine, these are urgent dispatches" he said.
"Go and rest for a bit soldier" replied Lorraine. He read the dispatch, a look of frustration came over him. "Dammit! Two days ago a Machian war party under Ahagutama massacred 83 English settlers and soldiers. As if this continent isn't already a powder keg, there is now a flame as well."

Massena looked at the dispatches "The British will surely retaliate, but where?"

"They'll attack the Machians, and we'll have to help our native allies and keep the British off of French colonial soil. Dammit!" responded Lorraine in a angered tone, he nearly threw his hat to the ground.

"Silence!, yelled Tesk, you snip at each other like a wolf to a cat, we will send a shaman, we will trade with the newcomers". He looked over at One Who Heals, "Please, said Tesk, go to their fort Lyon, tell them we wish for peace". "It shall be as you wish, answred the shaman, but if I don't come or send anyone back, commit me to the Earth Mother after the newcomers are killed". Lorraine spent much time drafting dispatches to be sent out to the other forts to warn them that there might be trouble. The atmosphere became more serious as troops hurried about trying to stock supplies and rebuild redoubts. The Canadian Militia was called up as couriers rode out to the settlements and forts. A soldier spotted an old shaman coming towards the fort. He sounded the bell and Lorraine came running out and saw who it was. He walked out alone to meet the shaman.
"Greetings wise one, why has your chief sent you here?" asked Lorraine. The shaman responded that his tribe only wished for peace.
"Tonight, we will give you three oxen for a feast, and I will sit at the council fire and your chief and I will talk more" responded Lorraine upon hearing what the shaman wanted.

Another OOC: We should have a map of some sort. It would make things much easier to follow, especially if a war of some sort takes place. Anyone willing to try making it?

IC:

"He is a Iroquois shaman."
"So it seems. What should we do?"
"We go there too. If he insults us, we will take it without response, and kill him after he has left the fort. French won't like it if we do it in front of them."
"Ahu. Let's go."

Two Mahican warriors, twins, jumped down from the tree from where they had witnessed the shaman entering the fort of their common allies. Iruquois were traditional enemies of the Mahicans, and the situation was very uncomfortable for the delegation that these two men formed. However, the fact that their mighty chief had given this job to the two brothers despite their relatively young age (23 winters) was a sign of great trust, and they were determined to prove to be worth it. Another reason for they beeing choosed was that they both spoke adequate French, even though the French usually had translators. Twins were also always considered to be lucky from birth, and each two times stronger than one since they had the strentgh of their brother in addition of their own.

They entered the open area in front of the fort and crossed it, calmly approaching the gate. Both had their muskets in their backs, tomahawks, knives and full warpaint. Their hair was cut in the traditional Mahican way, and several feathers, proves of their bravery, were clearly visible.

The items they were most proud of, though, were none of these. They were the English army water bottles that they used. They had both taken the scalps of the former owners of those bottles, not more than three days ago.

The Mahicans walked around the shaman like he wasn't even there, without responding to his words.
"Ahu, chief Lor-raane. Our chief, who sent us here to act as his voice, did what he had to. Those Long Knives in Red were in our lands, and had weapons. No free tribe can allow that. Meaby, if there was only one or few of them, but a whole armed column. Besides, they were approaching our camp. There was no other option." The taller of the warriors, who had spoken, raised his head like he was smelling something awfull. "The stink of an Iroquis. Is there any other place we could talk?"

The indians stopped, and their eyes were colder than ice when the taller brother replied, with a low, dark voice. "If your mother and sister were raped and killed, dozens of your friends and relatives murdered by someone, you would not start pretending to be their friends just because you and those murderers have a common ally. You do not know what you are talking about, and we forgive you. But do not say such things again." His brother continued; "It is indeed the desire of the mighty Ahagutama. It is what our whole people desires. However, we will not try to achieve it, not now when the Red Coats are getting stronger and more agressive every day. You call it boast when we say that we will not forgive the crimes committed against our people and you call us children, we, warriors of dozens of battles and owners of tens of scalps, but we forgive this all since we are here to be the voice of our chief and his patience is greater than our own."

Colonel Lorraine met with the other officers that night in his quarters. They stood around, mumbling to one naother.

"Gentlemen, as you have heard, a Mohican war party fell upon 83 Englishmen and soldiers, killing them all. Despite this, word will reach out back to the British colonies and they will send soldiers north, to here. I recieved dispatches from Quebec today, General Thierry has given orders to all posts to conduct raids into the disputed territories. And that is what we shall do." Lorraine said to all the officers. These dispatches arrived before the British began down the Lawrence.

"Capitaine Massena, I want you to take 75 soldiers, 60 Canadian Militia, and however many Mohicans that will follow. Once you have this force, I'm ordering you to make your way south, into the colony of New York. Conduct raids on the settlements and draw the British out. Use the tactics of the natives, do not, I repeat do not face the British in an open field. For you will have no cannon, nor cavalry. Hopefully, this will draw the American Militia away from their farms and leave them vulnerable. Now, go to the camp of Ahagutama and muster as many natives as possible. Is that understood?" Lorraine aksed.

"Yes Colonel, I shall do so right away" replied Massena. At last he could prove himself on the battlefield. That very night he, and several others rode towards the Mohican camp.

IC:

The message moved ahead of the Frenchmen as they rode to the lands of Mahicans. They vere treated very friendly and celebrated in the camps and villages they passed, untill they arrived to the War Camp in where the Ahagutama and the bulk of his warriors were located. Dozens of others from the settlemenst the French had came by had followed Massena's group and some of them ran ahead to inform the Great Chief of this event. Therefore he had expected them, and stood ready with his men in lines behind him, all armed and in full warpaint.

It was truly a fearsome sight that the French saw when they arrived to the open in front of the campsite - almost two hundred Mohicans, armed to the teeth, in almost disciplined formation, standing silent.

OCC: Go attack settlements
OCC: I guess I was lucky on the guess.

Capitaine Massena and three soldiers dismounted upon seeing the warriors. He never saw natives in formation like that, it was almost European. He stood there, waiting for the war chief to appear.

Fort Lyon

Colonel Lorraine paced about as the garrison prepared the redoubts, dug pits, hoarded as many supplies as possible. And he sent out couriers all across New France to warn of the British. His force could not stop a full scale British invasion. The Marquis de Montcalm and his army were tied up in the siege of Fort William Henry. The raids had to work.

OOC: Is that me? Ah well I'll attack whether it's me or not.
The warriors spotted a British settlment, "looks ungaurded to me, said the leader, lets slip up quietly, and so they moved silently through the forest weapons at the ready.

Ahagutama and his lieutenants walked to the French.

"Ahu. You are Massena, are you not? I am the Great Chief of Mahecans, Ahagutama is my name. I assume that it is the war that brings you and your men to our lands?"

Massena stood before the great chief. He searched for words, but he was nervous.

"War Chief Lorraine bids me to tell you that we are leading a raid into the disputed territories. There, there will be many prizes to take. Scalps, muskets, powder, supplies. There are several settlements out there. You warriors have few scalps and your hatchets still shine, will you join us?" asked Massena.

Ahagutamas eyes twinkled slightly. "Few scalps, you say? I beg you not to call us squaws..." He forced his voice friendly again. "However, what you say about the prey that waits us pleases me greatly. I will take my warriors, all you see here and a bit more, and fight the Long Knives. Do you have a spesifical warplan, and if you do, would you care to share it with me?"

Capitaine Massena was pleased with Ahagutama's interest.

"When the suns spills over the trees we shall move, south into New York. There are as I said before several settlements. The plan is to draw out the militias and put them under the knife. Once that is done, the settlements shall be burned to ashes. The long knives will come. They too shall be put under the knife." responded Massena "Is that satisfactory?"

"75 of our own soldiers and 60 Canadians. We cannot divert many men. Because if the long knives should come, we may need as many men defending the fort as possible. Our men, especially the Canadians are well aquainted with native style of fighting." responded Massena "The soldiers will not dress in their uniforms, but will look like you.''

Look like us? Is he blind or something, cannot see the difference between Mahecan and a painted Frenchmen!? And that those Canadians know something about the indian warfare? He talks to me like a child... he thought in his mind, but did not show this. "I see. I have a bit more than 200 men to help you with. I, also, need to protect the squaws and children from the revenge of the Red Coats. Hopely your chief will keep his word and deliver the muskets and powder, otherwise the warriors that are left here will be in a very difficult position."

Colonel Lorraine stepped up to a watch tower an observed his men working. They were highly disciplined and well trained. The British will pay dearly if they invade.
"You men there! Sharpen those spikes better!" he called out to a group of soldier who were working on a redoubt.
'I wonder how Capitaine Massena is holding out' he thought. Then, a group of militiamen approached the fort.

"Colonel Lorraine, may we speak woth you sir?" asked Claude de Daniey, leader of the Canadian Militia.
"Please, do come in" replied Lorraine. Claude walked in and shook hands with Lorraine, they were old friends.
"My men are ready for the raids, when shall we leave?" asked Claude.
"Whenever one of my officers returns from the Mohican camp, tyhe natives will hopefully be aiding us in this endeavour."
"Are you accompaining us?"
"No, I must see to the defenses. Capitaine Massena will be leading the raids."

The two men continued chatting as the soldier continued their work.

The warriors snuck up on the British settlment, "What if we disrupt the French's plans"? Said one of the warriors. "What if we disrupt the Britishes plans"? Said Tesk, "I am cheif, and I say ATTACK"! The warriors rushed into the settlment, killing all in their path, one of them shot one of the warriors with their strange fire tools, they killed him and took the musket. The next morning the settlment was in ruins.

The rising sun gave spread its shining hands over the Mahican camp. Four hours after the end of the wardance. Still, despite the short rest, most of the warriors were already awake, preparing themselves.
Their warchief hadn't slept at all. He was capable of spending several days without sleep, without letting it to show at all. This particular night he had spent with his woman.

He walked out of his tiipii, gave a look over his camp, and headed towards the tent of his French allies, his Chosen Ones (few equally sekected elite warriors, sort of a bodyguards) and lieutenants accompanying him.

OOC: Taralkea, I think that for now on the English player should be let to answer our posts. My starting was a bit Godmodd, I know, but I did it just to get some action from the beginning and since the game hadn't even started yet, it wasn't technically wrong. I think. Anyways, to not make this unfair, English player should be able to say what his villagers do - do they shoot back, try to escape, or what.

Capitaine Massena stubled out of his tent and relieved himself on a tree. He roused the others who came with him. The night was long and they were groggy and disoriented, but, they did get up and prepared. Ahagutama approached and Massena walked up to him.

"Good morning chief Ahaguatama. The sun spills over the trees and your men are ready. The rest of my men will be coming soon. Together we will drive the long knives bak into the sea!" Massena said with optimism.

Fort Lyon

Colonel Lorraine stood out on the parade field. Before him were the soldiers, dressed like indians. His intention was not to fool the other natives, but to fool the British soldiers and colonists. It usually worked, the fear factor of it. And the Canadian Militia were gathered as well, they were in their usual attire. With modifications for forest fighting, wearing green and brown, with leg protection from the branches. Claude de Daniey stood tall.

"Comrades, today you will be leading raids into New York. Causing as much havoc as possible. You will be fighting alongside natives, they are your brothers. You will fight like them, run like them. Do not engage in frontal fights with the British. There may be few of you, but you are twice the soldiers as the British. Now, go! In the name of France!" shouted Colonel Lorraine. The force of 75 soldiers and 60 militiamen jogged to the Mohican camp. They would not march, for it made them slower and it takes longer.

Chief nodded, and turned to the incredibly quickly organized lines of warriors behind him. In their ancient language he gave a little speech to them. "Warriors of Mahecan! Drums of war are calling you! The Long Knives in Red have grown too strong. Their tribe is numerous and prosperous. However, as warriors they are stupid and soft. We will put them under knife, and our French allies will help us. You have their muskets in your hands, your knives have blades made in their camps. They are our brothers now. Like always, remember however, that YOU are the sons of the Great Spirit! You will be the ones who drive the Long Knives out from our lands!
Or are you? Are you strong enough? Are worth it? ARE YOU MAHECAN WARRIORS?"

Almost two-and-a-half hundred mouths gave the thunder-like answer.

AHU, AHAGUTAMA!

He nodded to his men, turned around and left the camp, heading to the meeting location they had agreed with the to join the French main force. Few dozens of his men ran immeadiately to the forest, to act as a rear guard and pathfinders, while the rest followed Ahagutama and the French in nearly perfect silence.

Capitaine Massena and the other Frenchmen ran alongside the Mohicans. They ran quite swiftly and silently down the path. A few hours later they arrived at the meeting spot. It was an open spot in the woods where travelers would rest. They filled up the are and awaited the French force to arrive. An hour later the French force arrived. Lt. Foche led them, he approached Massena.

"Capitaine Massena, it is good to see you. The men are ready and willing. I see the natives are quite eager for war as well." said Lt. Foche
"Indeed, they are experts at this sort of war, and we will try to fight as they do. Hopefully, we will meet only scattered militia. many of the larger contingents of militia are with the major British armies." replied Massena. He signaled to Ahaguatama, and the raiding party began their trip into British territory.
