Yazmarea Announces Cultural Revolution [semi-open, telegram to join]

Official Address to the People of Yazmarea by Comrade Liu Shaoqi

Comrade Yazmareans! Now is the time we make one last leap forward, into Communism! Now is the time that the Great Leap begins! Forward, Comrades! Purify your nation from the last traces of the bourgeois enemy! Forward, Comrades! Forward, to increased steel production! Forward, into prosperity!

On the streets of the capital, Red Guards marched proudly, their SKS rifles on their shoulders, their faces stern and angry. They broke into homes of both Party officials and bourgeois sympathisers alike, dragging them out into the streets, and beating them with the butts of the carbines until they died, or stabbing thwm with their bayonets. Only rarely did they shoot them. They were ordered to save the ammo.

Although the bourgeoisie has been overthrown, it is still trying to use the old ideas, culture, customs, and habits of the exploiting classes to corrupt the masses, capture their minds, and endeavor to stage a comeback.

Tah Shiyu, a newspaper editor, screamed in horror as a Red Guard grabbed him by the leg and began to drag him down the stairs the hard way, his head hitting painfully against the stairs. Above, in his communal appartment, his wife screamed as two Red Guards tossed her on her bed and began ripping her clothes off her body.

The proletariat must do just the opposite: It must meet head-on every challenge of the bourgeoisie in the ideological field and use the new ideas, culture, customs, and habits of the proletariat to change the mental outlook of the whole of society.

Tang Yanhong did not scream. She simply slumped silently against her bedroom door as a bayonet-knife entered her heart, then slid slowly down the wall. The Red Guards retreated slowly, tossing books onto the foor, breaking dishes, and finally setting the room on fire.

Since the Cultural Revolution is a revolution, it inevitably meets with resistance. This resistance comes chiefly from those in authority who have wormed their way into the Party and are taking the capitalist road.

Ji-Li Biao grasped the windowsill in horror, her knuckles going white as she realized she had no escape. Her Party Member ticket, her pure record, her service to Comrade Shaoqi was perfect – and yet, she had no escape. The Red Guards had simply set her newspaper's office on fire from below, stabbing and shooting the few who dared to make an escape. She only had one choice. Aside from dying by fire, of course.

Ji-Li Biao jumped.

Party committees at all levels must abide by the directions given by Chairman Shaoqi over the years, namely that they should thoroughly apply the mass line of 'from the masses, to the masses' and that they should be pupils before they become teachers. They should try to avoid being one-sided or narrow. They should foster materialist dialectics and oppose metaphysics and scholasticism.

The Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution is bound to achieve brilliant victory under the leadership of the Central Committee of the Party headed by Comrade Liu Shaoqi

"Hey Fawley, you still asleep?"

The man known as Fawley opened his eyes. Staring back at him was the camo-painted face of another soldier. He shook away his tiredness and stood up in bed, rubbing his sleep-filled eyes.

"Does it look like it?"

The second man chuckled a bit. "Ah, Fawley, I'd let you get more beauty sleep, but you need to get dressed and geared up." Fawley looked severely pissed. "Valez, we're still twelve hours away." Chuckling again, Valez answered, "Be ready for anything. Now get dressed." Grudgingly, the tired soldier walked up and gathered his clothes and armor. Once he had donned these items, he paced around, looking for his weapons. Bending over, he glanced under his bunk, pulling out an AR-58A1. "Here we go." He slowly cleaned out the weapons as he remembered his briefing.

-Flashback-

"Once you've inserted into the mission area, you are to make contact with a dissident faction that we've made contact with several days ago. They've taken shelter in an abandoned coastal village one hundred miles northwest of Hong Kong. We've received satellite photos indicating several enemy infantry elements within the insertion zone, so be alert." The officer continued about force deployments and mission parameters for about an hour longer before ending with this:

"The Pride of Oured leaves at 600 hours tomorrow. Good night, and good luck."

-End-

He stared back up into the ceiling. Suddenly, a blaring alarm sounded, and a small siren in the room began to glare as the commander's voice resounded on the intercom.

"Attention all crews, report to battle stations, contact imminent!"

Yazmarean People's Republic Southern Naval Command

Long bursts of automatic weapons fire rung out in the distance as the Commander of the Southern Navy and his entourage lived out their last seconds.

General Comrade Zhou Cheh, however – the new Commander of the Southern Navy – had now other concerns then the wrath of the Red Guards. He looked at a report handed to him by a young soldier, then looked at the soldier again. “Do you even realize what this means, Comrade?” The soldier looked back in surprise.

“Well, Comrade, I believe this means that a foreign submarine is approaching our shores at the coordinates specified. Probably stray or something, Comrade General.”

“This is not my belief, Comrade. I believe that this submarine is approaching with intent to attack the People's Republic. Order to the deploy the Glorious Revolution light destroyer on an interception course. This will be enough to find out it's intent. If it doesn't turn back, we will have to deploy more ships, but I don't want to move fleets around for no use.” - he added unnecessarily.

“Yes, Comrade General” - replied the soldier, and ran out ro relay Zhou Cheh's order to the radio operators, which would then send it onwards.

In the meanwhile, all over the People's Republic of Yazmarea, people continued to die.

On the Yazmarean shore

Kwan Chih and his men were long condemned to death. Some of them were believing Communists. That did not matter. Some of them were necessary experts. That did not matter either. To the Red Guard, they were all equally traitors to the cause of Comrade Liu Shaoqi, and the Glorious Founder Comrade Tan Haifeng. They would all die. But, as some people in Yazmarea did, they escaped – some with captured weapons – and fought the Red Guard in the shore areas, losing many – but at least not dying without a fight.

Somewhere in the South Yazmarean Sea

The Glorious Revolution Luda-class destroyer has been simply patrolling a given area of sea until they have been given an order to change direction and hunt for what it's captain presumed was just another rumour of an enemy submarine. Or at that was what he thought until his Sonar started sounding off.

ALERT! ALERT! ALL CREWS TO BATTLESTATIONS! THIS IS NOT A DRILL REPEAT THIS IS NOT A DRILL! ALERT! ALERT! ALL CREWS TO BATTLESTATIONS!

South Yazmarea

Crews ran back and forth among the corridors of the Pride of Oured, manning their positions. On the bridge, the commander oversaw his crew as they prepared to take his commands. "Sir, what's our course of action?!"

The stern man looked up in the dim light of the command room. "Flood torpedo tubes three and four, open up on the destroyer and get those Halo men in the 01." A chorus of yes sirs followed his command, and the weapons officer prepared two SLT-91 advanced lightweight torpedoes to launch, opening the launch tubes and flooding them. "Torp tubes three and four flooded, sir!" Almost immediatly, the response came.

"Torpedoes away!"

The two iron fish slammed into the water, streaking towards the approaching destroyer at high speed, guided by their advanced SONAR sensors and LADAR detectors. At the same time, six men, dressed in camoflauge fitting to the Yazmarean landscape, were rushed through a tiny hatch into the 01 minisub. A officer there ordered them to drop their heavier equipment, as they would weigh down the small sub and prevent it from getting within range of the shore.

South Yazmarean Sea, aboard the Glorious Revolution

“Sir, we have incoming fire!” The Captain gulped in horror at the screen as two blips advanced closer and closer to the middle of the creen – where the Glorious Revolution light destroyer awaited. He screamed.

“Take defensive manoevers! Deploy anti-torpedo countermeasures! In the name of the Celestial Bureaucracy, do something! Someone!”

The torpedoes were moving fast towards the hull of the Revolution. Soon, they were going to strike the body of the ship, tearing through it's hull, killing and injuring crew. Death and destruction would reign aboard the vessel...

The forward torpedo exploded uselessly, showering the vessel with a shower of hot seawater. No damage was done. The countermeasures worked. Wow.

“Great! We did it! Now broadcast a status report to Fleet Command. “Enemy Submarine Detected, proceeding to engage.”

Now, the Captain allowed himself to let off a sigh of relief about the situation. He was a good captain. He did fine, and he saved himself, his ship, and his crew.

At least, that was the way he though until the second torpedo hit.

Elsewhere

In the meanwhile, in Yazmarea, millions of people were dying. Some in the government's re-education camps, some under the boots of the Red Guard, some from starvation, some from the cold, some from the bullet, some from the bayonet. Death – not Equality or Brotherhood – was now the true ruler of Yazmarea.

"Hit confirmed, enemy destroyer is taking on water!"

The commander watch through the UPID as the enemy ship began to sink lower and lower into the ocean, and turned to to his crew.

"Launch the 01!"

A crewman nodded and with a "Yes, Sir", began to shout orders on a telephone. Soon, the six special forces soldiers and their essential equipment were loaded into the minisub, which then proceeded to disengage from the mothersub. The dim, dank sub, piloted by the Halo Force operatives began to make the two hundred mile journey to the meeting point as their comrades in the Pride of Oured began to set sail for their naval base at Sand Island.

DEMOCRATIC SOVIET REPUBLIC OF KAHANISTAN
Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Government of Kahanistan looks with horror at the clearly schizophrenic government of Yazmarea. First they convert to a "communist" government, then in manner reminiscent of the NKVD or Khmer Rouge, they turn on their own.

We despise the slur to the reputation of good socialists that is the nation of Yazmarea. As a consequence, we will mobilize a fleet of 50 transport vessels to remove refugees and those marked for death. They will have a military escort and will not fire unless fired upon. However, they will carry nuclear armament as a deterrent.

Signed,
Margaret Delray,

“Alert! Alert! Scramble the anti-submarine helicopters! Scramble the aircraft! Go there and look for the damn thing! Do something, damn you thrice to hell!” - screamed General Comrade Zhou Cheh. Soldiers ran back and forth through the military base. Helicopter blades howled as the anti-submarine patrol craft took off slowly, spun above the base and then went off into the area over the South Yazmarean sea where the Glorious Revolution has been sunk. Their mission was not to look for any survivors – so as not to distract from the defense of the Socialist Motherland by such petty things as search-and-rescue efforts. Merely, find the enemy submarine and destroy it.

OFFICIAL RESPONSE FROM THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF YAZMAREA

We will not deign to respond to the ignoble demands of the revisionist, bourgeois traitors in Kahanistan. It is they – and not us – who are an offense to the reputation of every good Socialist. Their wishes will not be granted, and their ships will not be allowed to enter our waters. We demand that they respect our national independence and leave us alone.

Several hours later, aboard the submarine USS Paul Wolfowitz

“Yooo! Marthy!”

The female sailor threw her head back, gulping down half a bottle of beer at one go. The music roared, reverberating loudly in the small confines of the submarine. “Yeeee-haw!” - screamed Martthy as she began to unzip the front buttons on her Navy shirt, the male sailors cheering. Seeing that doing this with one hand was uncomforable, she smiled as she swilled down the rest of the beer.

Just as she ripped the shirt off her body, the Captain of the ship came into the section. The music died down.

“Okay, sailors. I want you all to know that the pilot of the ship has been ordered to change direction. We're heading for real war, this time. With Yazmarea.”

“Aye, sir.” Answered Marthy. “What are our orders?”

“Since you're an off-duty shift, nothing... except... Marthy...”

The music resumed.

The Kahanistanian fleet mobilized for Yazmarea. It consisted of 50 Wasp-class amphibious assault ships, (which were used by the Kahanistanian Navy as general-purpose evacuation vessels and troop transports in addition to their intended role) 15 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, 15 Ticonderoga-class cruisers, and 50 Victoria-class SSK's, modified to use biodiesel engines. It would be one day before departure and then three days before the arrival of the fleet in Yazmarea.

The commander, Commodore Alexandra Federova, stood at the deck of her flagship, the Ticonderoga-class RKS Amir, as the wind blew into her face, pushing her long dark hair behind her shoulders. My first fleet command... I hope this goes well. In reality, she probably had little to worry about, she had been one of the best captains in the fleet, and had seen service in Neoma and Psyker Bearzerkers, and had been promoted to Commodore shortly after her latest engagement.

She remembered a quote attributed to an US commander in 1775. "Do not fire unless fired upon, but if they want a war, let it begin here." She would have to remember to give that order to her fleet before they arrived at Yazmarea.

“Comrade Shaoqi, we have certain problems.” – the commander of the Southern Yazmarean naval command gulped before he could procede. “The Kahanistani revisionists have sent ships in our direction. I fear that they will violate our territorial sovereignty and attempt to interfere with the Glorious Cultural Revolution. I would like to receive your authorization to annihilate their traitorous, revisionist military forces, and to prevent any danger to the Great People’s Republic of Yazmarea.”

Comrade Liu Shaoqi shook his head on the other side of the phone line. “No. It is too early to do that – we will be seen as aggressors and beset upon. We need a way to uncover the true nature of the revisionist traitor while not putting our international status in jeopardy.”

The commander of the Southern Yazmarean fleet wanted to scream. International status? What is the man talking about? It can’t be in jeopardy, we don’t have an international status! He did not say that, of course. Instead, he said with the absolute calmness of a stone. “What does the Glorious Leader propose we do?”

* * * *

Five hour later, 50 MiG-25 aircraft took off in Southern Yazmarea and flew towards the Kahanistani fleet.

Attention, Revisionist scum. We do not want to fight you. Turn back from our national waters and you will go home unharmed. Repeat, we do not want to fight you. Turn back…

One of the destroyers hailed the RKS Amir. "Commodore, MiG wing approaching the fleet, hailing us. Older MiG-25's... we used MiG-29's in the Freekish conflict. Orders?"

Federova's orders came from her flagship. "Put the fleet on DEFCON-YELLOW, prepare the CIWS and SAM launchers, but... do not fire unless fired upon, but if they want a war, let it begin here. Stay on course for Yazmarea. And activate only a few of the CIWS and SAM's, if they have HARM's we'll lose only the launchers whose radars are on. One on each ship should suffice."

The Kahanistanian Navy proceeded towards Yazmarea. "We are only extracting those who would be murdered by the extremists within the government."

“Damnation!” – screamed the commander of the MiG wing. “They refuse to turn, do they! Open a communications channel to Fleet Command.” “Aye, Comrade Wing Commander, opening comm. Channel.”

“Comrade Fleet Commander, this is Falcon-Six, do you read me, over? I repeat, this is Falcon Six, do you read me, over?”

“Yes, Falcon Six, I am Fleet Command, I read you loud and clear, what is the situation? Please report to Fleet Command, over.”

”The Kahanistani revisionists are refusing to turn back, Command. Should we fire the airborne torpedoes, over.”

There was silence. Two minutes. Three minutes. Five minutes of silence. “Damnation. We don’t have time for authorization. Launch half the torpedoes.”

Each aircraft carried two air-deployable torpedoes. When half the aircraft launched their, fifty torpedoes sped out towards the forwardmost ship of the Kahanistani fleet.

The Yazmarean War had started.

South Yazmarean shore

Slowly, out of the dark night, six figures emerged in SCUBA gear, scanning the shore for enemy soldiers. The squad leader then ordered them to hold position as he set up a small beacon. After setting it on the ground, he activated it, sending an encoded satellite data-burst to an orbiting recon satellite overhead, which relayed it to the V.S.S. Xirnium, whose submarine battlegroup was holding one hundred miles outside the territorial waters of Yazmarea, waiting for the go-ahead. Being a Posideon class submarine carrier, it prepared a sqaudron of MR-4 Ixiom strike fighter, waiting for the go-ahead to launch against the enemy.

Then, the order came. An EW-4 Sauron AWACS aircraft, launched from the speacialized submarine and flying a looped patrol route near the six sub fleet, reported a wing of MiG-25s flying towards a Kahanistani formation. Worse yet, they had launched munitions. It was time to hunt. The sleek lines of a ISF-12 Sturmfalke were visible as it roared off the now-exposed flight deck of the Xirnium. Soon, ten of the fighters were in the air, climbing to an altitude of nearly eighty-thousand feet above sea level before igniting their afterburners and screaming rapidly at nearly three times the speed of sound within to weapon range of their targets.

As they came inside their effective range (310 km), their RAM covered weapons bays opened, revealing six black AAM-12B long range air-to-air missiles. Targeting the enemy fighters, they released munitions, sending twenty-five of the missiles out of the launch bays, falling several meters before their solid rocket motors sent them outward, paving the way for their small ramjet engines to ignite, sending the missiles at the enemy fighters at almost Mach 4.

President Lord Harald Gustavsson paced back any forth across the room, his eyes fixed on the giant television moniter. In front were four rows of men at computer consoles. Only the light of the moniters lit the room; darkness was everywhere.

Defense Secretary Lin Mei, a slender, Asian-looking woman, walked into the room. "Mr. President," she said to Harald, smiling for a moment and then looking serious, "more news from the streets of Port Yuko. The negotiations with the leaders of the national strike have failed."

"Lin, we cannot let these demonstrations go on. I want them crushed!"

"Sir, the strikers demand pay raises and new elections. We must find a way to make them stop."

"Well, what can we do to get them back to work, short of systematically murdering their leadership?"

"Well, Mr. President, we could go to war."

"Jingoism again. Where?"

"There is currently a communist revolution occuring in Yazmerea. Already, shots have been fired at foreign (ooc: there, I didn't say Velkyan, you happy now Velk?!?! :-P) aid ships seeking to take out political dissidents who are being executed in droves."

Harald turned to Secretary of Foreign Affiars Jack Marsh, standing behind him. "Secretary, do we have any alliances with those nations?"

"Not that I know of sir. And actually, I personally disagree with taking the country to war just to inspire an end to a strike. The people want reform, sir."

"That I won't allow." He turned to Defense Secretary Lin. "Lin, dispatch a hospital ship to the waters off the coast of Yazmarea, then have it torpedoed by one of our submarines."

Marsh interjected. "Mr. President you can't be serious!"

"I am, Secretary. I want the operation carried out tonight, and tommarrow I will make a speech calling for war on prime-time television. You will speak afterwards in support of the war, or else."

Marsh looked at Harald for a second, stunned. Finally he saluted, and said, "Yes, Mr. President." Then he turned and left. Lin passed instructions to a hospital ship, Savior, and a submarine, U-234. The hospital ship was to go into Yazmarean waters and ask to take refugees, and the submarine was to sink the hospital ship with a single torpedo. Then Lin returned to Harald.

"The orders have been passed down, Mr. President."

"Perfect. I shall return to my chambers to rest now."

Lin smiled. "Would you mind if I go with you?" she said.

"Of course not," Lord Harald replied, patting Lin on the shoulder.

Harald's small, spartan bedroom was a few doors down from the command room. There was a single bed, a television, and a night stand with a small lamp and a telephone; that, and a small bathroom to the side, was all. Harald and Lin entered the room. "Mei," Harald said, adressing her by her given name. Lin smiled back, and Harald leaned over and turned out the lamp.

A few minutes later, there was a knock at the door. "Mr President," a messanger said, "We have recieved a transmission from Captain Hugh Lackland, commander of the submarine U-234. He is reporting a problem with his mission."

"Get him on my direct telephone line in here," Harald said through the door, still in bed.

"Yes sir."

Harald picked up the phone. "Mr President, this is Captain Lackland of U-234. I would like to formally protest my orders to destroy the Bonstocknian hospital ship, the Savior. It is not a hostile ship, in fact, it is one of our own, but your command has said to destroy it. Is there a problem?"

"Captain, this is war. The men on that ship are traitors who wish to defect to the communists in Yazmarea. They contain valuable equipment which we cannot compromise to our enemies. Destroy the vessel immidiately."

"Bur sir!"

Lin, her arm over Harald's chest, was listening in. "Give him a promotion if he succeeds," she whispered into Harald's ear.

"If you complete this mission, Captain, you will be made a Vice Admiral, and given command of the invasion fleet that will attack Yazmarea."

Lackland paused for a moment. Finally, he spoke. "Yes, sir."

"Very good, Admiral Lackland."

Harald and Lin got up a few hours later. They were immediately confronted by news of the sinking of a Bonstocknian hospital ship by Communiust Yazmarean forces as it tried to pick up refugees. The media had already recieved the information, and many were calling for war. The strikes had ended, as the organizers of the Provisional Bonstocknian Labor Union had said that wartime demanded an end to stike so workers could produce war material. Harald smiled.

He was on the television adressing the Bonstocknian Senate a few hours later. "It is time for a regime change in Yazmarea. Their brutal attacks on their own citizens, and finally their attack on Bonstocknian ships, have shown that that government has not right to govern. I ask the Senate to formally declare a state of war with Yazmarea."

The Senate applauded. Harald turned to Secretary Marsh. "Say something good," he said to the Secretary.

Marsh gave an angry look, and took to the podium. "Senators, this war is not necessary! The destruction of the Savior was an accident! I beseech you, Senators, refrain from action! Lord Harald lies!"

Harald turned to Lin. "Off with his microphone," he said.

Television broadcasts ended, and Marsh's microphone was cut off. Senators began shouting "Traitor!" at Marsh. Several men in black suits and sunglasses grabbed Marsh, and he was dragged screaming outside.

Nothing was ever heard of Jack Marsh ever again.

Almost immediately, the Bonstocknian military "response" began. Sixty amphibious warfare ships, loaded with the Bonstocknian 1st Marine Division and escorted by several carrier battle groups, began steaming in the direction of Yazmarea. Satellites began conducting a thorough and complete reconaissence of Yazmarea, forcusing on industrial areas, major military bases, and weapons of mass destruction, all targets for Bonstocknian aircraft, along with making a map of the country. Bonstocknian EC-130 Compass Call aircraft began conducting electronic surveillence on Yazmarea, looking for the locations of command and control networks and air defenses, refueled by KC-10s and escorted by F-22s. A number of RQ-4 Global Hawk recon UAVs, launched from Bonstocknian carriers, flew over Yazmarea, to provide a detailed map of the country, its population, and its military deployments.

The lead vessel was a Ticonderoga-class cruiser, but not the flagship. The RKS Sea Eagle fired its CIWS cannons and chaff at the incoming enemy missiles, shooting down five of them and knocking two others off course. However, one of the twelve missiles that did strike the cruiser hit below the water line, and the warship began to take on water.

The captain ordered the damaged warship to fall behind the lines, and sent an emergency signal to one of the troop transports. 31 were already dead, incinerated in the areas directly impacted. Another 42 were nearby, injured and being carried to lifeboats by the healthier crew.

Meanwhile, the SAM and AA continued to fire on the primitive planes, the fire crews and their captain remaining aboard until the vessel either ran out of missiles or it became too dangerous to remain aboard. They would be the last off the ship.

Aboard the RKS Amir, Commodore Federova ordered the flagship and other Ticos to fire their ESSM's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESSM) into the air fleet. Over a hundred missiles rocketed into the air, downing many of the obsolete aircraft. The fleet continued on its way.

Federova sighed. I had hoped they would be amenable to reason. She got on the radio to the nearest transport. "Pick up the downed aircraft crews, and take them aboard my flagship. I'll handle the interrogations personally."

OOC : There is no communist revolution. The communists are in power, and are doing a Cultural Revolution, i.e. Mao-style purges.

The MiG-25's tried to dodge the advanced weapons, but the Evolved Sea Sparrows were way, way ahead of their time. It was – as the author of the Leviathan would have put it - “nasty, brutish, and short.” Within fourty-five seconds, fourty-three of the MiG's were shot down. Three more turned towards home, and four more still fired off their torpedoes and then fled, all in different directions. Thus was lost the first battle of the Yazmarean War.

In the meanwhile, the first squadron of the Southern Yazmarea fleet moved out of Zhangjiang. This fleet included 10 Sovremenny-class missile destroyers, 20 Jianghu I-class missile frigates, and 2 Kilo-class submarines. This time, the Yazmareans were sure, they were going to get these Kahanistani revisionist, and they were going to get them good.

In the meanwhile, the People's Liberation Army was consolidated, the reserves were pulled out, the Red Guards united into fighting units. Yazmarea was preparing for a full-scale war – just in case, of course.

In the meanwhile, a strike force of 150 MiG 25's was sent out towards the Allanean deployment, to deal with the approaching battleships. Soon, soon the Allanean capitalist pigdogs would pay the price of their horrible impudence, and they would pay it in blood.

As the Glorious Comrade Founder had said:

If the U.S. monopoly capitalist groups persist in pushing their policies of aggression and war, the day is bound to come when they will be hanged by the people of the whole world. The same fate awaits the accomplices of the United States

A small fleet of two carrier battle groups was before the Bonstocknian deployment, having just arrived on the scene. Four more were on their way. Bonstocknian E-2 Hawkeye AEW aircraft, flying around the carriers, spotted the incoming Yazmarean fighters. The information was reported to the command.

"Over a hundred?" Rear Admiral Tino Marronni scoffed. "We can't go after that, not with only two carriers!"

"Admiral," said Captain John Walton, we need to put up some kind of resistance. We have allies in trouble."

"All right. Launch a dozen Tomcats, and we'll see what we can do."

Several F-14 Tomcats were already patrolling over the carriers. The E-2s directed them.

"Java one this is Lookout one. Confirm approximately one-hundred bogeys, confirmed to be Foxbats, inbound and closing at oh-three-oh, for four-hundred, twenty-five thousand. Perform refueling operations, and then proceed to the target zone. Clear to engage."

"Roger, will perform refuel ops, then proceed to engage the targets with Phoenix missiles."

The twelve F-14s refueled from several S-3B Vikings, and then turned on the afterburners until they were within two-hundred miles of the incoming Yazmarean jets. Then each of them fired six long-range Phoenix missiles at the incoming Foxbats. Then they turned for home.

The E-2 Hawkeyes, along with excorting surface vessels which had formed a ring around the carriers, continued to look out for any communist air attack. Satellites and aircraft continued their recon of Yazmarean territory.

“Go, go, go!”

From the carriers en route to Yazmarea, 75 aircraft rose, speeding at the lowest altitude they could manage towards the Yazmarean shore – and the approaching Foxbats. When they were only in 10 kilometers range, they had suddenly fired their AMRAAM’s at the MiG’s, then turning to flee – in 75 different directions.

But that was not all. From the Paul Wolfowitz submarine, two SLBM’s were launched, aiming at the foremost ship of the Yazmarean fleet, with satellite guidance helping choose the target.

Aboard the sub, Marthy hopped up and down merrily after pushing the launch button, and so did some other members of the crew – but, thanks to the wonders of cross-branch secrecy, they were not yet aware of the major strike coming.

The Kahanistanian fleet fired on the retreating MiG's, hoping to capture the rest of the crews and keep the Yazmareans from finding out their position or intentions. Meanwhile, on the RKS Amir, Commodore Federova sat in a chair opposite one of the brigs, interrogating a prisoner, the highest-ranking one she could locate. The Commodore was a tall woman, 5'7", average weight, and about 41 years old, with shoulder-length dark hair. She spoke softly but firmly to the prisoner.

"What are the strengths of the Yazmarean forces? Their weaknesses? Their coastal defenses? Their equipment? What will we be up against removing the refugees?"

Meanwhile, the rescued crew members of the sunken cruiser were integrating with the crews of the other warships and transports. The ships' captains could find something for the sailors to do. The fleet headed straight for Yazmarea at full speed.

The Allanean and Bonstockian missiles tore through the Yazmarean fleet, shooting down dozens of planes, tossing surviving aircraft spinning out of control into the water. Still, quite a few planes fired off their payload – about twenty or thirty anti-ship missiles total, out of the 100 originally carried by the air wing. Then, the handful of survivors turned to the Allanean craft, intent to bring them down by the fire of their 20mm autocannon. Some more were shot down by Kahanistani weapons systems – and eventually, only 15 MiG’s pushed on for the hopeless fight.

The two Allanean SLBM’s struck the foremost ship – the frigate Comrade Founder, piercing it from deck to waterline and exploding inside it. It sunk almost immediately.

Aboard the Kahanistani Amir, the pilot smiled smugly at the capturing officer. “Speak? Me? Why? What are you revisionist wussies going to do? Scream at me?”

Unfortunately, physical torture was forbidden by Kahanistanian law. "No," said the fleet commander. "But if you want to eat more than bread and water while you're aboard this ship, or have any hope of seeing your family again, you will talk to me." This was not a threat, the soldier's family would not be harmed. He simply would not be released until he became more cooperative.

"Also, your safety depends on the safety of this ship," added Federova. "If this ship sinks, the crew has priority on the lifeboats. It will be much less likely to be sunk if you tell us what we need to know to avoid your coastal defenses. We should be arriving at your shores in less than an hour, and then your forces will lose to our superior warships."

The soldier gulps. “Okay. Okay. I will speak. But I don’t know much… nobody told me how many soldiers we have… lots, tough. Rumour has it over twenty million in peacetime… but we are not very advanced, I think. We haven’t updated any of the weapons in a long, long time. So what’s going to happen once you land is that we will try to beat you by size alone, and trust me, the Glorious Revolution will prevail.”

“And shore defenses… oooh. Poor you. We have missiles, not guns. That bit IS advanced – I think. I don’t know, I just fly the plane. The missiles are big. They come on trucks, and they look kind of like one of those Mig-21 things, and just as huge. They’ll probably be too fast for your CIWS to deal with, and they have some classified tech in them… and classified means advanced, as you know.”

Federova nodded, then radioed one of her officers aboard the ship. "Commander, patch me through to a satellite link, see what kinds of defenses they have, our prisoners said there were missile emplacements, and to expect some pretty fast missiles. Also, find an area we can set up a beach head. We'll be taking out a lot of refugees... hopefully they won't be willing to lose too many troops trying to stop them."

She turned back to the pilot. "Do you have any navigators, any electronics technicians here, anyone who could give us information about these missiles?"

The Bonstocknian intelligence service, or BSS, sent a message to Kahanistan, asking for results of the interrogation of captured pilots. Bonstock also asked for an analysis of Yazmarean air defenses. (ooc: we'll just assume that happened, as it was posted).

Meanwhile, satellites finished conducting their recon of the country. The High Command had in it the idea to sieze Shanghai, and then march up the Yangzi River to Chongqing, a plan which was communicated to Kahanistan and Allanea. First, of course, it was figured that military bases in the area should be targetted and destroyed beforehand.

Bonstocknian Air Force and Naval staffs decided to conduct a small fighter sweep of the area to see what resistance was in the area. For this purpose, a squadron of twenty-four F-22 Raptors took off from Bonstock. Refueled along the way by KC-10 tankers, the fighters flew into the airspace over Shanghai. Four EA-6 Prowler electronic warfare aircraft took off from the Bonstocknian carriers to provide SEAD support, and a pair of ES-3 Shadow electronic intelligence planes also took off from the carriers, with orders to use their sensors to pinpoint the locations of airbases and air defense emplacements.

Over Kahanistani fleet

The ten Sturmfalkes screamed overhead of the Kahanistani aid fleet, their roars filling the night (with Velkyan IFF signals, of course). As they did, they banked around, and the sqaudron leader patched a message over to the Kahanistani flagship.

Glad to see some friendly faces out here. I'm Commander Paris, Royal squadron. Our fleet's been sent to the region and is holding position out two hundred miles out from your position.

OOC: The MiG-25 is a single-pilot craft. All you would have gotten is pilots.

IC:

From the Yazmarean shore, a hail of Proletarian-class missiles were now unleashed upon the Kahani fleet. The missiles, despite the pilot’s statements, were not really all that advanced compared to the joint allied offensive. They were basically missiles using the MiG-21 framework. Right now, they sped towards the Kahanistani ships – at ten missiles per ship ratio.

In the meanwhile, train-fuls of volunteers were shifted to the shores – thousands and thousands of troops. The young and elderly were organized into Motherland Brigades, armed with outdated Mosin Nagant rifles. The military-age were sent into Militia Brigades, to prop up the military with slightly better equipment. The followers of Glorious Leader Shaoqi knew their cause was right – and they would prevail.

As for the Bonstockian offensive, it was well (so the Yazmareans thought) met. 14.5mm KPV's flared up, and MiG-21 interceptors were launched (157 in number), while from the ground ZSU-23 and SA-10 Grumble systems covered the sky in flame. Sure, Yazmarea did not exactly have the best technology, but they sure did have lots of it.

For the Allanean fleet, a whole of 50 anti-ship long range missiles were launched at the nearest Allanean battleships. The battle was joined.

Sailors screamed in pain and horror as the USS Beynor Gates[/b] was ripped apart as missiles tore through its upper deck and into the ammunition compartment.
\
The explosion of the ammunition compartment of an Allanean warship is a fearsome sight, as the Iowa-N ship was instantly turned into a cloud of smoke and steely remains, a main turret tossed helplessly through the air. The shockwave, and tossed unexploded shells, were enough to heavily damage the [I]USS Victory and USS Wrath. And before that could be dealth with, more disasters happened.

The ships Redemption, Glory, and Justice were struck by the missiles, the Redemption out of control with its rudder struck, the Glory sinking slowly, and the Justice on fire. But the Allanean response was to come.

From the Allanean ships, 20 Tomahawk missiles were launched, aimed at the Yazmarean fleet. Four targets were chosen, and the missiles split evenly among them.

Another cruiser was sunk by the incoming missiles, and two destroyers were taking on water, but as the missiles were not especially advanced and used the frame of a warplane nearly fifty years old, the CIWS chewed up most of the incoming missiles like a pig chews through the slop in its trough.

The unlucky RKS Imperator mistook the missiles for another attack wing and got cocky. They then mistook them as kamikazes, and stood helpless in disbelief, allowing the ship to be struck with over twenty missiles. The crew struggled ashore, and the other warships deployed landing craft to retrieve them and join them ashore, leaving only a skeleton crew aboard the warships to protect them and offer fire support.

An E-2 Hawkeye flying over the Bonstocknian fleet noticed the intercepting MiGs. Radioing the Bonstocknian fighers, the pilot said, "Lookout one to Colombia one, bandit Fishbeds inbound. Clear to engage."

The response was quick. "Roger. Engaging targets."

Bonstocknian fighters got within about 25 miles of the MiGs. Then each of them opened their weapons bay doors, and fired four or five AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles. Hoping that their longer range missiles and stealth characteristics would allow them to slip away unharmed, they turned for home. Then the SAMs started flying. Following their training, Bonstocknian pilots began maneuvering their aircraft and firing chaff and flares to decoy the SAMs. But many of these pilots were inexperienced, and had never actually seen combat. Two of the F-22s were struck by SA-10s, and went down. Both pilots bailed out over the ocean a mile or so from shore, hoping a Bonstocknian submarine or helicopter might come to their rescue. It would take at least a half-hour for the nearest chopper to arrive.

Either way, the Bonstocknians had gathered much of the information they needed. High Command was now planning the drop of the major hammer of Bonstocknian airpower.

Yazmarean shoreline

Crouching inside the ruins of a two-story home in the razed village, the Special Forces squad watched as the enemy cruise missiles impacted the allied fleets. The squad leader, Master. Sgt. Zackary Karol poked his weapon, an ARC-4A2, out of a small crack in the pavement, using his weapon's Omni-Scope to view the shore emplacements. He then flipped a small switch near the trigger of his weapon, holding it in place for seconds as an invisible LASER beam shot out from the camera, marking an aim point for the munitions that would soon be arriving. Soon, he had marked the entire area for a strike.

And that strike came. Three MR-4B naval strike fighters soon cruised within range, flying under the primitive RADAR systems of their opponents. They each released two Steel Rain Mk. V sub-munitions dispensers, designed to be launched from standoff ranges. The six SODs dropped a bit before activating their engines, pushing upwards into the atmosphere. Soon they would be over their targets, pushing a rain of hundreds of IR-guided bomblets into the enemy launcher sites. As their bombs pulled into the clouds, the MR-4s broke away; ready to rearm as yet another squadron of MR-4s took off, this one bearing anti-shipping missiles with which to attack the enemy fleet.

At the same time, reconnaissance satellites hovering above the area began to target enemy airfields, communications centers, RADAR sites, and positions, readying them for strikes by the 88th Strategic Bomber Wing, which was currently over the Pacific Ocean, refueling with K-101 Exxon tanker aircraft. There were about fifty aircraft in all, which would clear a large enough landing area to land the incoming 4th and 7th Marine Divisions, which would most likely arrive in 48 hours, escorted by elements of the 9th Naval Defense Fleet, including the dreadnoughts Harling and Potomac. As these crossed into the Pacific, even more units, including the 8th Armored, were being readied to deploy.

Secret IC:

A message was soon sent by the Bonstocknian High Command to Velkya, after observing their movements. The message was forwarded to the other powers aligned against Yazmarea.

All of our nations seem to be undertaking separate operations against Yazmarea. This is not the way to go about this. We should best coordinate activities under a single, unified command, with one, multi-lateral joint operation for attacking that nation.

The Bonstocknian General Staff and High Command have come up with a plan which we believe can yield results. The plan involves a multi-phased operation aimed at rapid dominance and the destruction of Yazmarea's capacity to make war. The first phase of the operation would involve the combined Allied airpower destroying Yazmarean production and transportation infrastructure. Targets should include airfields, aircraft and munitions plants, air defenses, railway yards, bridges, and command and communications facilities. This phase should take a week or so, and should include thousands of Allied aircraft sorties. The targets should be all over Yazmarea, so as to not betray the location of our follow-on attacks.

The second phase involves an amphibious feint designed to lure Yazmarean forces from the intended strike zone. The combined Allied naval and amphibious forces would sail towards the Shandong Peninsula, perhaps culminating in an amphibious raid on said peninsula. The proximity of that landing zone to the Yazmarean capital (ooc: which I assume is Beijing) should be enough to draw Yazmarean forces to the area. This phase should be accompanied by heavy bombing of infrastructure from Shandong to Beijing, focusing especially on transportation infrastructure in the latter part of the phase.

The third phase would involve the final assault on Yazmarea designed to lead to the termination of their regime. While amphibious forces are still in the area of Shandong, Allied airborne forces will make a mass drop in the area of Shanghai, aimed at taking that city's ports, hopefully intact. The assault should be preceeded by a massive bombing of Yazmarean air defenses. After siezing the city, fast sealift ships carrying heavy armored and mechanized divisions should be brought into the port to reinforce the airborne troops. At this point, the divisions will be built up and sent on an offensive to secure the Yangtzi river valley area, an area vital to Yazmarean industry and warmaking potential. The move would split Yazmarea in two and deprive it of vital warmaking rescources, making the end of their regime almost certain should the operation be met with success.

In order to achieve these ends, a military commander should be appointed from our forces to coordinate the invasion efforts. If and only if our attack is coordinated does it have much chance of success. However, we are confident that if the operations go as planned it will lead to the rapid termination of the Yazmarean regime at a minimal cost in casualties to Allied forces.

Please reply as soon as this message is recieved. Thank you.

From: Headquarters of the High Command of the Allied Union
To: Bonstocknian High Command

The Bonstockian battleplan has been approved by High Command with great enuthisasm. However, we recommend first achieving complete or near complete naval and air superiority in Yazmarea before any ground-based assault. In addition, we must secure a base free from the danger of enemy land assualt that is near enough to resupply both naval and aerial units operating in the Yazmarean theatre. We believe we have found this base of operations in Questerian Taiwan, which lies several miles off the coast of Yazmarea.

The United Kingdom of Questeria is a long-time ally of Velkya and in all likelihood except our request to operate ships and aircraft from their territory. In the meantime, ships of the 9th Naval Defense Fleet, dispatched from Oured, Velkya nearly 24 hours ago, have recently rounded the tip of the Korean penninsula and have an estimated arrival time of 18 hours. Operation: Eagle Dawn (the Velkyan name of the mission) will commence once Velkyan forces are on station and ready to assist their allies.

We wish you all the best of luck on the battlefield.

-End Transmission-

The Velkyan statement, along with the Bonstockian battleplan, were then forwarded to all allied commanders.

In the meanwhile, the Yazmareans where quite content with the results of their last assault. And while they prepared to fight on the ground – deploying three million troops known as the First, Second and Third Proletarian Army – on the Southern shore, their ships unleashed a hail of missiles and torpedoes on the Kahanistani navy. Fifty missiles, twenty-long-range torpedoes were fired in this mission.

The Kahanistanian Navy had superior equipment, but was severely outnumbered. They returned fire with a volley of anti-shipping missiles and supercavitating torpedoes against the Yazmarean Navy, losing another cruiser and three destroyers in the process.

If we keep taking losses like these, we'll start losing our transports. Commodore Federova ordered her transports to land ashore, shielded from hostile fire by the remaining warships, whose CIWS and anti-missile systems fired nonstop. 1,000 Imperial Marines and 10,000 Republic Guards landed on the shore, equipped with NBC gear, Interceptor body armor, and Tavor assault rifles. They would have to fight through the numerically superior Proletarian Armies to get the refugees out of the nation.

Meanwhile, the Victoria-class SSK's moved out cautiously, attacking hostile vessels from under the sea, primarily the destroyers that were the bigest threats to submarines. Their diesel-electric engines made it all but impossible for sonar to detect them until they fired. They sunk many an enemy vessel in that battle.

The attack was devastating to the Southern Fleet. Within minutes, almost all of its ships were taken down, massive explosions rocking their hulls and sending troops screaming off the decks and into the deadly cold waters of the South Yazmarean sea. Only two or three warships remained, poiunding the Kahanistanian Navy with now pointlessly outgunned firepower. Only a few charred communist bodies remained on the water from what was once the might destroyer fleet of the Yazmarean People's Republic, making a few more pointless revolutions on the surface before they disappeared from history forever.

In the meanwhile, loyal citizens and outposts have noticed the Marines and alerted the relevant authorities. The First Proletarian Army began to turn around immediately, sending forth a wave of T-55 tanks, troops, BTR-650's and like equipment. They were not particularly advanced – but, as the Kahanistanian troops would learn the hard way as the 122mm howitzer shells rained down upon them, there were just frigging lots of them.

Waves of tanks, armored carriers, and roaring infantryment blocked out the horizon, storming towards the tragically outnumbered Kahanistanians. So started the Battle of the Shore.

In the meanwhile, the Allanean assault ships were beigging to approach the shore. It was time for the first Allanean unit to deploy. This was the 56th Trekkie Mechanized Infantry Brigade. Thousands of troops poured ashore, tank engines roaring as the tracks bit sand, helicopters flying by to deposit scout squads onto the shore. But the first to land was Brigadier-General Cyrus “The Virus” Nielson, the commander of the Brigade.

He was wearing impeccable parade dress, carrying in one hand the gold-stitched regimental banner of the 56th Trekkie Infantry Brigade. In the other hand , he held a submachinegun, pointing it towards the far away communist ranks as he spoke.

Soldiers! Some do not understand what we are fighting for. They ask “Are you fighting so someone could build a Bunny Burger branch in Beijing? So Yazmarean soccer moms could buy your huge cars and drive them?” Well, that's not exactly true – we are now fighting for Freedom. For hmuan rights. For basic dignity for Christian preachers who are now in Yazmarean camps. But even if we were fighting for consumerism alone, that would be enough. Consmerism beatifies – sanctifies – the idea of individual choice.

Even though some would argue that choice is illusionary, one would argue that even the illusion of choice influences people well, encouraging them to understand the importantce of choice – and to push the market to give them moe and more real choice. So yeah. We're fighting for consumerism, too. We're fight to give the Yazmareans freedom. All kinds of freedom, to all Yazmareans. Now, forward, people! Lets' scrape some paint of their hulls!

The ground shook as the George W. Bush main battle tanks brought their huge 140mm cannon to bear on the attacking Yazmareans. Allanean riflemen targeted the enemy at range double that of the local AK-47 rifles, and as the Allanean .308 rounds whizzed through the air, the brand new SOV06 vehicles turned on their main 15mm Gattling cannons, spraying the communist front with hundreds and thousands of rounds per second as they pushed towards the enemy lines. From the loudspeakers on the Allanean vehicles, music rang, and the Allaneans sang along. This would be a glorious fight.

In one place, an Allanean cavalryman hacked into a gropu of Yazmareans on his off-road bike, slashing with chainsword and pistol until his body was literally ripped off the bik by bullets. In another, an Allanean officer would be seen, firing twin Desert Eagles at once at the enemy in a frenzy of combat. Elsewhere, a tank commander, having exhausted his ammunition, literally rammed the lines of enemy infantry.

The Allaneans were outnumbered seeraly by the Yazmareans, but they intended to make them to pay a high cost for victory. Many of the Allaneans used amphetamines and PCP issue to them before the fight, and now fought the enemy with a bloodthirsty tenacity, ignoring pain and wounds until they, too, collapsed from bloodloss or a particularly lucky gun shot.

Now, the battle was joined.

ic: A frantic message was sent out to Allanean and Kahanistani forces:

Stop! We should wait until we are all together and powerful! They already have their maximum strength. We should get stronger before we start the battle.

Sadly, it was feared among the Bonstocknian High Command that this plea would go unheeded. Perhaps if the invasion was successful, Bonstocknian follow on forces could help exploit it. The Bonstocknian 1st Armored Division was already on its way in a convoy of ships, due to arrive in theater soon. Two squadrons of Bonstocknian F-22s, along with a few B-2s, landed at an airbase in Taiwan, being now the only land-based Bonstocknian airpower in the region.

A Bonstocknian military attache was on hand for the Allanean general's speech. Yeah right, he though. Freedom.. ha! We can't even get that in our own country! We're fighting so Bonstocknians can sell shit here and build factories that use cheap Yazmarean labor to make tennis shoes and MP3 players.

The Bonstocknian helicopters swooped in and rescued the Bonstocknian pilots off the coast of Shanghai.

The Bonstocknians decided to test their theories of airpower out. Like before, Shanghai was to be targetted. This time, more force would be involved. The force was known as the 708th Expeditionary Strike Group, a composite unit of F-22s, B-2s, and KC-10 tankers. Bonstocknian satellites had pinpointed several key airbases and air defenses. They were to be the first targets. Just after sunset, the first flight of F-22s took off. Within minutes, forty-eight of the Raptors and four B-2s stealth bombers were airborne, flying north-east from Taiwan.

They reached a point about five-hundred miles east of Shanghai in the East China Sea. There, four KC-10s were waiting, and refueled them. Below were Bonstocknian carrier groups. Several EA-6 Prowlers and E-2 Hawkeyes took off, to aid the Air Force in its strike.

The Bonstocknian planes divided into waves. Twenty-four of the F-22s went ahead. Flying on supercruise, they got over the China shore at exactly 2300 Hours. Using their stealth characteristics to help them, they flew low to avoid detection. Once over shore, they popped up to 10,000 feet. It looked like another fighter sweep....

They were at a point (http://www.cs.chalmers.se/~yzhang/presentation/01_China_map.jpg) near Macau, on the southern coast. The ground troops waited for the Yazmareans to push themselves into the grinder...

Shanghai Airbase

“Comrade Lang! The First Proletarian Army has engaged Allanean and Kahanistanian revisionist-capitalist elements near Macau! We must send them aid now!”

Comrade General Lang stopped for just a second, plotting possible airstrike routes. “Here. You go and order them to fuel the planes. Go! I must have them airborne within fifteen minutes! We must destroy the foul invaders! Attack!”

But the attack never came. The Bonstockian stealth craft, far too advanced for Yazmarean radars to detect, struck fast and hard. Powerful explosions reached through the First Shanghai Airbase as a Bonstockian bomb – or was it a missile? - hit a bomb storage warehouse, tossing tons and tons of explosives into the morning air, secondary and tertiary explosions hurling MiG-21 fighters like little toys. Similar events took place on six different airfields and air defense installations around Shanghai.

Comrade General Lang looked on in amazement, just as an unexploded 500-kilogram bomb hit him square in the jaw, ending everything.

Macau Battlefield

“Forward Comrades! Forward, for Yazmarea! Forward, for Comrade Shaoqi! For Communism!” - screamed Political Instructor Ling Bao, pointing his handgun at the horizon, where Allaneans and the Kahanistanians surely awaited. “Forward!”

Missiles, artillery, and the fire of the Allanean rifles – outranging the Yazmearean AK-47 by a wide margin – cut literally thousands of Yazmeareans down, but where a Proletarian Army soldier fell, two more stepped in to replace him.

And then, the Allaneans came close-in, to come with the Yazmareans face to face. It was insane. It was hopeless. But it did happen.

The Yazmareans were told that the capitalist soldiers fought only for money, that they were uneducated, cowardish, and would flee at the first glint of the Proletarian steel – and yet here was the reverse! The barbarian Allaneans charged into the very midst of the First Proletarian Army, screaming their own slogans, slashing to the left and right with chainswords, shooting at point blank with guns of entirely outrageous firepower, firing oversized Gattling cannon at infantry, shooting at tanks with what appeared to be 140mm howitzer shells, and seemingly impervious to pain due to the drugs they took.

Dozens of brave communist soldiers fell in the fight. They were instructed not to aim their AK-47s for any range lower then 50 meters, but rather to use them as point and shoot weapons – which, in the flurry of battle, translated to 'spray and pray'. To them, it was a mistery why the Allaneans seemed unhurt by their massive gunfire as they carefully aimed their .308 battle rifles to fire back, why the enemy rounds would pass sometimes through three rows of Proletarians before stopping... and yet they pushed on. They were a hundred Proletarians for every Allanean, after all! How could they lose!

Public Declaration from the Amestrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to all Nations Currently Engaged in Intervention against the Republic of Yazmarea

We strongly advise that the coalition nations presently engaged in intervention against the Yazmarean Government of Chairman Liu Shaoqi refrain from invasion, land based assault, and attempts at occupation. The reason is simple; the coalition forces do not have enough military personnel to constructively occupy the vast nation of Yazmarea and its 1.5 billion people. Any coalition invasion of Yazmarea would result only in millions of dead civilians. Since the present rational for intervention is to stop the killing we advise that a blockade be established around Yazmarea’s coastline and that a limited air campaign be conducted against the government’s political and military instillations. Such a course of action would put pressure upon the Yazmarean Government to remove Chairman Liu Shaoqi and end his destructive “Cultural Revolution” while substantially reducing potential civilian casualties.

We also advise strongly against any attempts at coercive cultural transformation of Yazmarea by the United States of Allanea as all such attempts have failed miserably in the past, often worsening the situation.

Official Response of the United States Government

We would like to remind the “honorable” Dominique de Villepin of the successes of the Allanean government in transforming the cultures of Aissur, Axackal, Hash and NgMweni, now happily parts of the United States, as well as the success of our armed campaign in Aoogah. Please do not try to disiform the population of the coalition governments with your ill-informed comments.

Meanwhile on the ground

The Allaneans kept on fighting – in fact, pushing slowly into the ranks of the Yazmareans, letting them flank, and then surround them, ignorant – or so it seemed – of the tactical reality. Cyrus Nielson pushed on, splattered in Yazmarean blood, still raising the gold-stitched brigade banner high as the battel swirled around him, walking slowly to the north, leading the brigade behins him. A Yazmarean soldier appeared in front of him, screaming, pointing a weapon. He fired his submachinegun point-blank, the blood now befouling the regimental banner.

He saw an Allanean Colonel fight beside him, waving his chainsaw left and right as he made his way through three Proletarian soldiers, then falling over, wounded gravely. He saw a T-55 tank burn as two Yazmareans tried to make their way out of it. He saw a George Walker Bush II tank, decorated with skulls of communist soldiers, fight, disabled, incapable of moving, against six T-55 vehicles. Yes, war was horrible.

But here, Nielson at least knew why he was going through this horror. He waited for the Yazmareans to fully encircle his troops. And then, as the Proletarian ring pushed slowly, but surely, to smother and crush the Allaneans, he raised his hand. A signal flare rose into the sky.

And immediately, tearing forth from the beach, came more troops – the Redeemers Cavalry brigade. They rode around – and through – the Yazmarean lines, slashing left and right with chainswords, shooting with handguns and flamethrowers, throwing grenades from high-speed, and playing their combat stereosound systems as loud as they could to intimidate the enemy – and for Allanean combat stereos, loud was loud.

Public Declaration from the Amestrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to all Nations Currently Engaged in Intervention against the Republic of Yazmarea

Once again the Amestrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is forced to respond to an unsigned statement from the United States Government, its anonymous authors in the Allanean State Department apparently so proud of their work that they feel no need to attach their names or office to the finished product.

The United States of Allanea imperialistically incorporated the nations of Aissur, Axackal, Hash and NgMweni into itself, without any regard for the sovereignty of their governing institutions and in the process of that incorporation destroyed those nations’ unique cultures through a policy systematic persecution, propaganda, and predatory economic structuring. If the United States intends the same for the independent and sovereign nation of Yazmarea then the State of Amestria requests that the member states of the coalition pull out of the present imperialist enterprise disguised as a humanitarian mission.

The State of Amestria further would like remind whoever wrote the Allanean Government's statement of the United States' failures in Antanjyl and Farmina. In Antanjyl Allanean policy of cultural transformation by aerial bombardment resulted in social breakdown and civil war, claiming eight million lives. In Farmina Allanean aid to the "Palmer Revolution" and Reaction Corps. has only contributed to that unfortunate nation’s perpetual political violence.

The government of Amestrian would do well to stick its nose out of our affairs. Simply blockading this nation will trap its citizens and allow the oppressive government to continue its murder of even more citizens. The time for diplomacy and pressuring has passed; it is now time for action. What Allanea is trying to do is simply destablize the Yazmarean governments iron grip on power by informing the citizens of the true power of freedom and democracy. Once Yamazrea's incompetant government has fallen, we, on our honor, promise to preserve the culture and rights of the Yazmarean citizens and breath new life into the ruined nation.

RAF Air Base, Taiwan

As their Bonstockian allies took off in their comparatively primitive aircraft, the highly trained and well-equipped Allied Union Air Defense Force began to prepare its own assault. Combat data gleaned from Kahanistani and Allanean RADAR and IR systems began to stream to a three inbound ISF-12 squadrons which had recently taken off from the Questerian bases in Taiwan. Even though the Bonstockian bombers had taken out the nearby enemy air capabilities, commanders were still skeptical about whether or not the enemy still had the capability to launch air strikes on allied forces, and subsequently ordered these aircraft into the airspace as soon as possible to prevent said strikes.

Flying to eighty-thousand feet, the thirty fighter aircraft, spread over several hundred miles in fifteen separate sections of two, would have the capability to knock out any enemy aircraft as it launched to before it could harm allied formations on the ground. Another three ISF-12 squadrons were also readied to replace the three once they had been exhausted of fuel. Worse yet for the enemy, a squadron of ISF-2D Super Valkyrie interceptors was also assigned to the theatre, and their powerful RADAR systems with a range of six hundred miles would detect enemy aerial movements long before anyone else did, at a altitude of over one-hundred thousand feet above sea level.

Over South Yazmarean Sea

As the Velkyan attack aircraft struck their targets and began to head back to base, a squadron of BHS-1B Naram-Sin bombers lifted off the pavement, holding nearly one thousand missiles and bombs each. As they cruised over the South Yazmarean Sea, they ascended, almost at a ninety degree angle, to the upper reaches of the atmosphere, far beyond the intercept altitude of even Velkyan interceptors. As the planes reached their operational altitude, they leveled out, and activated their scramjet engines, pushing towards their destination at the immense speed of eight times the speed of sound.

As the bomber pilots pushed their aircraft towards their unwary targets, the ships of the 9th Naval Fleet began to radio the Allanean and Kahanistani armies ahead of them, asking them to mark enemy armored and fortified positions. These bombers, designed to loiter over battlefield delivering weapons for extended periods, began to arm their first clip of munitions in anticipation of the allied response to the call.

To finish off the strike, Task Force Gold’s naval component arrived in the northern region, seeking out any enemy naval forces that the Allanean and Kahanistani navies had not yet sunk. As the two hundred vessels of the fleet reached their destination, thirty-two troop ships, carrying the 11th, 17th, and 21st Infantry Divisions and the 2nd Armored Division, arrived in the coastal city of Anping, and in three days time, they would land on hostile shores and do battle with the enemy.

It would be Hell on earth for whoever stood in freedom’s way.

The State of Amestria would like to remind the Allied Union that the present intervention against Yazmarea is not just its affair, war is humanities affair.

As for the Grand Senates claim that "the time for diplomacy and pressuring has passed," to the knowledge of the Amestrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs the state of Velkya has not attempted diplomacy with the Yazmarean Government, nor has it attempted targeted pressure. The Allied Union has instead launched a surprise attack against Yazmarea. The same is true of all the other coalition members, with the exception of the Democratic Soviet Republic of Kahanistan. The Grand Senate should not pretend its Government has tried diplomacy, as it is quite obvious it has not.

As for Allanea's activities, bombing campaigns and military assaults scarcely count as "informing the citizens of the true power of freedom and democracy" and in fact threaten to kill more Yazmarean citizens then the present "Cultural Revolution" has.

As for your Government's "promise to preserve the culture and rights of the Yazmarean citizens," the State of Amestria will hold the Allied Union to that promise.

Unfourtunatly, diplomacy was never offered on the table because of the instability of the Yamazrean government. A Velkyan submarine, headed for Questerian Taiwan and sailing in international waters was preemptivly attacked by a Yamazrean destroyer on patrol. Acting out of self defense, the submarine opened fire and sank the destroyer and proceeded to relay the attack to High Command, which automatically responded with a state of war. The Allied Union and her closer allies of Allanea and Kahanistan are taking steps to ensure that civilians are not harmed in the invasion, and that military targets are struck exclusively. However, we also would advise the AMFS to drop the overbearing and sarcastic tones it carries, as it's record in Torontia speaks for itself.

The Kahanistanian armed forces will delay their advance into Yazmarean territory, holding only the land currently occupied by our beachhead forces, but we do not expect the Yazmareans to cease to attack our forces simply because our forces are not moving. Our forces are, however, more than well enough equipped to defend themselves against the obsolete technology of the Yazmareans.

We have no intention of allowing Yazmarea to be annexed by Allanea or anyone else. We are only dismantling the infrastructure of terror that the hypocritical Maoist government of Yazmarea employs against its own citizens, and allowing a more stable government to take place.

According to Amestrian intelligence sources the destroyer in question was patrolling within the South Yazmarean Sea at the time it was sunk, well within Yazmarea's national waters and no where near Questerian Taiwan. We advise the Grand Senate that uttering such obvious falsehoods only causes the Amestrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to doubt the truthfulness of everything else the Grand Senate has said up to this point. A lack of honesty on the part of the Grand Senate could also cause the State of Amestria to question the legality of the current military operation being conducted against the Government of Yazmarea by the coalition.

The 56th Trekkie Mechanised infantry has deliberately herded itself into a corner. Now, they were dying, slowly. Already, five thousand have been dead of the ten thousand troops of the Brigade, taking on waves and wave of communist soldiers. Outside the deadly circle, the cavalry’s buggies and modified off-road bikes roared as they charged the Yazmareans again and withdrew.

It was then that the calls came through from the Yazmareans. “ Task Force Gold, this is Trek-56, requesting air support, over. We are directing you to the location of the Second Proletarian Army, identified by our satellites at [] and the location of what seem to be the Southern Naval Task Force fleet base. Allanean forces will soon attack the First Proletarian Army formation from the air.”

And indeed – eventually – when a thousand more Allaneans lay dead – they did. From the dispatched Arsenal ships, five thousand light anti-ship missiles were launched, filling the ranks of communist forces with immense amounts of explosives, and carefully calculated not to hit the small island of resistance in the middle of the circle. Some of the cavalry were hit by shrapnel however, as the attack was ill-timed with their own assault.

So far, 1,704 troops of the Cavalry Brigade were dead, and 6,419 infantry. And the battle still raged…

As the Yazmarean and Allanean missiles hit, horror spread through the lines of the Proletarian Armies. In the warehouses of the Second Army, shells and rifle ammunition exploded, causing fire and injury. In harbor of the South Yazmarean Fleet, submarine pens collapsed, trapping workers underground. On the Southern Battlefield, Allanean missiles cut swaths of destruction through the remaining ranks of the First Proletarian Army, and the loud music playing from the Allanean vehicles’ loudspeakers instilled fear and awe in those who have just been attacked by such superior weapons.

And the First Proletarian Army – that has had lost 340,000 troops in this engagement to the Allanean infantry, the missiles, the superior armor and attack helicopters – had turned and run. Only fourteen hours later would its officers manage to regain control of te panic and redirect its troops to join with the remains of the Second Proletarian Army, which has lost 250,000 troops in the Velkyan onslaught.

Upper Reaches of Yamazrean Air Space

The Naram-Sin bomber Lunar Sword soared through into the sky, skipping in a small dance back and forth between space and the upper atmosphere. The sixty man crew carefully guided their bomber in a large orbit (as in circle, not gravitational orbit) around the combat zone, as weapons technicans armed the warheads of the one thousand munitions onboard. Then, the call came. Their advanced targeting sensors lit up with the positions of the retreating Yazmarean army which were coming in real-time from both Allanean ground troops and Velkyan satellites. The Sword's bombays then opened up, as it's computer systems locked on to the enemy.

Working in conjuction with the other BHS-1B in the area, the Broken Arrow, they prepared a rain of fire unlike any the soldiers on the ground had ever seen. They were completly silent, the roar of the air-breathing scramjets masked by their immensely high-altitude. Invisible to all sensors, espacially those of the Yamazreans, they released over seven-hundred seperate warheads, each set for a different aimpoint among the regrouping Prolaterian armies. The goal of this strike was not to rout them, but to utterly annihilate them. The bombs streaked towards their target, unbeknowst to the enemy below.

Linaewen House
Official Residence of the Defence Minister

Naerath, The Eternal Republic of Holy Xirnium

Light classical music filtered unseen from a hidden alcove into the grand dinning hall, mixing inconspicuously with the clinking of silver cutlery and the animated discourse of those seated. Lord Ameas Vernius, Defence Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Xirniumite Armed Forces, was entertaining his guests (politicians, civil servants and officers of the military) at Linaewen House (http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e221/Xirnium/CICHouse.jpg), an impressive gothic structure built in 1412 as the home of the supreme commander of the armies of Holy Xirnium, and now serving as the official residence, during their time in office, of the Defence Ministers of the High Ecclesiarchy. The assembled dignitaries enjoyed an exquisite seven-course meal whose main dish consisted of a delightful venison roast, and sipped from some of the finest wines available in the Eternal Republic.

‘So both the Velkyan and Allanean governments have launched surprise assaults on Yazmarea. Does no one bother to make civilised declarations of war in this modern age?’ asked Fleet Admiral Eleni Kaitlin, drinking deeply from a glass of splendid red varietal wine (Amestrian in origin). Almost by accident, the discussion had drifted to the current military developments in the troubled Communist nation.

‘Of the entire coalition of countries that have descended on Yazmarea like a pack of hungry wolves, only the Bonstockian government publicly declared its intention to initiate a state of hostilities between their nation and Chairman Shaoqi’s,’ explained the Defence Minister.

Dr Carolyne Daentra, Deputary Secretary of the Foreign Ministry’s Senior Executive, frowned in distaste at the mention of the Federal Republic. ‘The hypocrisy of the coalition is really quite stunning,’ declared Dr Daentra. ‘President Gustavsson talks about the brutal genocide which is occurring in Yazmarea (the insane attempts of the Communist regime to liquidate the kulak classes and intelligentsia, in addition to any real or perceived political opponent of the Communist regime, so as to reset their nation to “year zero”), and yet he silences political dissidents in his own country.

The Bonstockian Foreign Affairs Secretary has not been seen in public since his brave assertion that there was more to the sinking of the Savior then the government of Bonstock first claimed. Where is he? XSIS suspects that he has been eliminated, most likely to prevent the exposure of a conspiracy.’

‘And, yet, Kahanistan has joined this invasion, collaborating with notoriously imperialist nations like Allanean and criminal governments,’ added Lord Vernius offhandedly, cutting a piece of venison with his knife.

‘The Kahanistanian Armed Forces couldn’t invade a parade ground,’ interjected the Fleet Admiral derisively. ‘Like fools, they’ve once again decided that the most effective way to deal with a complex geopolitical situation is to careen headlong into it without the slightest thought for the consequences of their actions.’

‘Perhaps, Lady Admiral, you are being just a little unfair to our Kahanistanian allies?’ suggested the Defence Minister, though privately he had arrived at the very same conclusion as the naval officer.

‘Am I, Minister?’ asked Admiral Kaitlin, pouring herself another glass of wine. ‘The Kahanistanians have landed eleven thousand troops along a stretch of coastline where they are immediately opposed by an entire army which numbers perhaps one million. Xirniumite Intelligence suggests that, to date, the First Proletarian Army has lost more then ten times the original strength of the entire Kahanistanian battle formation.

Were it not for the inexperience of the Yazmarean general staff, the poor training of their infantry and their uninspired tactics, the Kahanistanian amphibious invasion would long ago have been driven back into the sea. That outcome is still possible, of course, provided that the Yazmareans can learn from their initial mistakes.’

‘How many troops in total do the Yazmareans have along the southern front?’ asked a high-ranking bureaucrat from the Defence Ministry, looking up from the table as he poured some gravy on his venison.

‘We suspect three million in three armies,’ replied the Defence Minister. ‘No doubt the Yazmareans can raise fresh divisions, perhaps even more quickly then they can be smashed. I don’t doubt that hundreds of thousands of civilians are, as we speak, being hastily press-ganged into poorly armed and equipped militia formations.’

‘The only thing which is certain is that casualties will be absolutely appalling,’ opined Dr Daentra.

Ad Vitam Aeternam! – For All Time!
To: The International Community

From: Mr Ameas Vernius
Defence Minister
The Eternal Republic of Holy Xirnium

The High Ecclesiarchy has become increasingly concerned at alarming international developments in regards to the stalinist dictatorship of Yazmarea. Already, armed combat from the initial phases of the invasion has claimed the lives of well over half a million soldiers on all sides. A great many of these fatalities are suspected by the Xirniumite Intelligence Service to be of desolate Yazmarean civilians cruelly impressed into service in hastily formed home defence militia formations by the ruthless commissars of Yazmarea. Their deaths are a great tragedy, doubly so when one considers that it is for the reason of ending the misery of the Yazmarean people that the coalition has attempted to justify its sudden invasion.

Casualties from any prolonged armed conflict in Yazmarea will no doubt be horrendous, and result in the deaths of millions of civilian and military personnel. The Xirniumite Parliament therefore implores all parties involved in the current conflict to desist from their poorly thought-out and disorganised invasions and return to the negotiating table, where a less destructive solution to the obscene crimes against humanity and genocide being committed in Yazmarea can be found.

The second wave of F-22s quickly flew over, striking now for any and all surface-to-air missile sites in the area, with help from Navy EA-6 Prowlers who provided standoff jamming.

Next came B-2 bombers, loaded with 200-pound JDAMs and 5,000-pound bunker busters. They attacked the command centers of military ground forces around Shanghai, hoping to pave a way for Bonstocknian attack.

It looked like the perfect opportunity. The Bonstocknian 6th Airborne Division was ordered to load in its C-17 transports, for possible deployment should the bombers do sufficient damage.

The Amestrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to again remind the Grand Senate that the war in Yazmarea is an international affair, a matter of concern to all powers, and not something the Allied Union can claim to fall under its exclusive sovereignty.

Furthermore, the Grand Senate cannot order the Amestrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to cease communication (although the Grand Senate is perfectly free to ignore our messages if it feels it cannot justify its actions in Yazmarea).

If the Government of the Allied Union insists on standing behind the discredited claim that it's sub, the Pride of Oured, was "was preemptively attacked by a Yazmarean destroyer" in International Waters on route to Questerian Taiwan, then perhaps it could offer proof to the international community... Such as the Pride of Oured’s sensor recordings and official log. If what occurred was a Canned Goods operation*, with the Pride of the Oured launching an unprovoked attack upon the Yazmarean destroyer in question, then that means the Allied Union has launched an illegal war of aggression against the sovereign state of Yazmarea and is subsequently lying to both the international community and its own people.

(*OOC Note: Operation Canned Goods was when the leadership of Nazi Germany faked a Polish attack upon Germany's eastern border so as to help justify their invasion of that country to the German people. They dressed political prisoners up in polish military uniforms, then machine gunned them to death. The sinking of the hospital ship by Bonstock would also be a Canned Goods operation).

The Yazmarean army was huge. Even in peacetime, it could field around ten million combat troops. In war, the People's Republic could bring double that to the table. But right now, it seemd the Yazmarean military doctrine was failing badly. Comrade Shaoqi, of course, understood that better then anybody. As he sat in his bunker in Beijing, more and more reports came in from further Yazmarean casualties. In the South, the First Proletarian Army lost five thoustand more troops while on the rout dead and ten thousand wounded. He ordered that the wounded would be entrusted to the care of civilians along the path of retreat, even though he realized most of them would probably die due to faulty care. He wasn't concerned about that though – only about relieving the military from an extra logistics trail.

The Bonstockians have bombed positions around Shanghai, with Yazmaran anti-aircraft cannon firing madly in the dark, trying to hit the terrifying new craft by virtue of sheer amount of gunfire. And the defenses of Shanghai, while not the most advanced in the multiverse, did help to shield the main command blocks from most of the bombing. Only five hundred men died there.

Finally, in the early hours of the morning, Comrade Liu Shaoqi has received the news that Macau had surrendered to the enemy forces. He had only one choice.

“Tell the Red Guards near Macau start shifting every prisoner to the 347th Re-Education facility. Execute them. Blow up the railways and move north. Use the three Proletarian Armies to hold up the capitalist offensive – use human waves if you need to. In the meanwhile, begin shifting forces of the other Proletarian armies into the main cities by train. We must prepare for a massive campaign of urban warfare.”

Frantic work began immediately as re-education camps around Macau were dismantled and set on fire, their inmates loaded into trains and trucks and taken to the main central facility of the province. Very soon, the amount of prisoners there would hit one and a half million. It became a veritable city of slaves, emaciated, suffering, old, young... soon, they would be given their last option – to choose between death fighting for the Resolution and certain execution. But, as per the orders of the Secretary-General, it wouldn't start until they were all assembled in one place.

Lunar Sword, high altitude over Yazmarea

"Sir, incoming uplink from High Command."

The crewmember, looking through his flight suit's visor, viewed the current target data from High Command. Satellite intelligence had reported heavy troop movement by rail to Yazmarean cities. High Command could not afford to fight a bloody guerilla campaign that would cost both Velkyan troops and Yazmarean civilians a great deal of blood. Therefore, they had assigned the BHS-1Bs Desert Shield, Sky Killer, Reaper, and Lunar Sword to ensure that the enemy never made it into the urban areas. Releasing nearly seven hundred GPPB-91s (Guided Pavement Penetrator Bomb No. 91) in all, the aircrew carefully selected aim points including sections of rail, rail yards, and train engines to halt the spread of the enemy troops into urban areas.

But one BHS-1B, the Northern Eye, was assigned to a special mission. It cruised, invisible, to the main concentration camp in Macau, were it had received special aim points for its weapons. Guard barracks, towers, communication centers and motor pools would be subjected to a pinpoint bombardment which would send the prison crashing down around the inmates, who would be let free by the angels above. Bunker busters, anti-tank missiles, and graphite bombs were loosed at the camp, carefully positioned to hit guards, not prisoners.

One of the Bonstocknian B-2s was damaged slightly by the anti-aircraft fire, but apart from that the Bonstocknians got away home-free. Which led to the next phase of bombardment.

It was fairly clear by now where and how strong anti-aircraft emplacements in the area were. Now was time for the full, all out air offensive. Six aircraft carriers had arrived off the coast of Yazmarea, with another six being deployed and within a few days sailing time of the area. In the meantime, two-hundred Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired at air defense and coast defense installations near Shanghai.

Everywhere, Allanean forces pulled back towards Macau – where, immediately, armor and infantry were being landed onto the city harbor, stunning the locals with the sheer amount of power they were able to unleash. The Ronald Reagan Marine Brigade, the Furry Airborne Infantry Brigade, the George Lucas Cavalry brigade were landing there, planning to make the city a virtual fortress for the Allied forces.

In the meanwhile, back home, more and more troops marched onto troop carriers. In Allanean Alabama, the 45th Trainspotters Mechanized Infantry. In Florida, the 36th Sirithilist Armored Brigade. Row after row, they marched on, singing, bayonets glinting in the sun. Television cameras captured it on, mixing recordings from all across Allanea – so to a viewer, the 53rd Roadgeeks Mechanized Brigade marching towards their ship in Kalandia and 51st Wargamers Engineering Brigade loading onto their craft in Yurka-City was all part of the same broadcast.

Only one unit was sent to actually advance on the enemy. Several helicopters full of troops were sent out towards the location of the Yazmarean labor camp. As they swooped above the place, they peppered the sky with parachutes. They descended on the remains of the camp, bursts of automatic rifles suppressing the guard cabins, grenades rolling neatly into the camp supervisors' barracks, knives slashing the guards' throats.

It was only when they completed that task, and when their minds cleared from the flurry of insane, unlimited violence, that they became aware of what people they had fought to liberate had become.

It was a crowd of bald-shaved people – people who were once men, women, children, old and young. Starvation had erased the differences. Pain had erased the personalities. Now, crowds of people, their faces made alike by days and months of suffering and hard labor, looked at the handful of Allanean troops – no longer with hope. They had none. No longer with emotion of any kind, in fact. They merely looked on and waited for the strangers to do somrthing. Anything at all.

OOC: Note that I am also the player of Yazmarea, so I did not see necessity in posting separately for him concerning the defense of the prison camp. That's not really the key bit here, is it?

The coordinated airstrike continued. Codenamed Operation Windfall, it was to be one of the biggest Bonstocknian attacks of the war.

It started with a few pops. From Taiwanese bases, a flight of four F-117 stealth fighters took off. They were accompanied by four escorting EA-6 Prowlers, launched from the carrier Terror. They were refueled by a KC-10 over the Yellow Sea. Then they continued on towards their target, the Central Military Commission Headquarters in Beijing. If the nerve center of the Yazmarean military could be taken out, the war would be shortened considerably. More important, the rest of the Bonstocknian attack would go off without a hitch.

As the Bonstocknian planes were just getting over Tianjin en route to the targets, the carriers launched dozens of F/A-18 Hornets. From the Bonstock, B-52, B-1, and B-2 bombers took off, flying towards Yazmarea. Ships at sea readied their Tomahawk missiles.
Yazmarea
01-04-2006, 15:12
The retreat of the three Proletarian armies turned slow and orderly – bombed as they were repeatedly by Bonstockian missiles. They did not have time to bury their dead, and 2,500 men were simply left in the fields of Yazmarea to rot. Nobody cared. They merely pulled back a few dozen miles and began to dig trenches - a wide, wide line of trenches, designed to keep the enemy from going too far to the north.
In the cities of Yazmarea, frantic preparations were made for defending the Motherland. Roads were torn up for trenches. Government buildings – schools, hospitals, city halls – were made into fortresses, with the regular activity – classes and medical attention - still going on.
Only in Macau was the pattern different. There, the officials of the Party, the Red Guards, and so forth, were now surrendering en masse. They did not know what the Yazmarean government had planned next.
A week after the surrender of Macau, the socialist forces have launched their new attack – 1,000 FROG-7 missiles, aimed at te Allanean and Kahanistani position, as well as the city of Macau itself, armed with HE and incendiary warheads. The traitors would pay.

Over Yamazrea

Of course, the enemy had failed to calculate the technological edge of the Velkyan war machine. A flight of two large Liberator II strategic bomber aircraft on a missile defense mission orbited the city of Marcau in order to prevent a large enemy ground counter-offensive. A EW-4 Sauron AWACs aircraft, it's powerful RADAR systems illuminating every single aircraft for seven hundred miles, detected the massed launch, and began relaying the information to allied assets on both the ground and the air. The two Liberator IIs, who also carried a large amount of AAM-12 beyond visual range missiles, armed their vast stores of munitions. These missiles, nearly four hundred in all, zoomed out from the open bays of the bombers, giving off no trail, eliminating three hundred and twelve of the FROG missiles in one volley.

As this occured, the artillery brigades of two seperate Velkyan infantry divisions, guided by both their own RADAR and that of the AWACs, began pumping hundreds of Sphnix anti-ballistic missiles into the skies, downing two hundred more enemy missiles. It would be up to the Allanean and Kahanistani forces to destroy the other five-hundred.

The stealth fighters had been fortunate... they had not been discovered by Yazmarean radar. Now was the time to strike. The EA-6s jammed Yazmarean radars around Beijing just to make sure. Then the F-117s flew in, and each dropped two 2,000 pound JDAMs on the Central Military Commission Building in Beijing. The Bonstocknians turned for home, hoping to have no more encouters with the Yazmareans.

Meanwhile, nearly a hundred B-1 bombers were flying towards the Yazmarean coast, filled with JDAMs. They headed for Yazmarean industrial centers in Shanghai, Nanjing, Hefei, and Hangzhou. A few headed to attack Qinqdao with a load of Mk82 bombs, to carpet bomb that city.

In Comrade Liu Shao-Qi’s bunker.

“Sir, we have almost completed deployment…”

The ground shook as the Bonstockian bombs were dropped out, and dust fell from the ceiling of the bunker.

“Damnation! Go out there, Xiu! Give me full status reports!”

Only several hours later was the full image clear. The Bonstockian strike beheaded the Yazmarean military in one swoop. Not only were comrades Deng Shi, Quiao Peng, Li Tziang dead – the best flower of the Yazmarean army, cut down in its prime by a foul Capitalist offensive – but also, the communication center was bombed out, disabling further orders to be given. Not that there was any need – the soldiers and citizens, dug in their homes and schools and hospitals and trenches, already knew their orders: shoot any approaching enemy sources. Fight in a long guerilla campaign. Kill as much as you can.

In Shanghai, Nanjing, Hefei, and Hangzhou, many military production facilities, tank factories and shell plants were on fire, spouting clouds of acrid smoke. Fifteen thousand workers were reported dead, thousands missing as soldiers were drawn from defensive positions to try and put out the fire.

In Qinqdao, it was worse. Twenty thousand were dead at the very least as the bombs hit a densely-populated area full of forty-story apartment buildings, puncturing light cement roofs like paper and exploding inside, level after level toppling like house of cards.

The soldiers saw. And now, they were, you could say, even more ready.

As the missiles came in, the Allanean Praetorian-class missile launchers came alive. That was the death of 100 missiles. Then 200 more were cut down by the Nautilus-class beam weapons. Some hit , and 450 Allanean troops were killed in the process. Fifty missiles also hit in the Yazmarean city, killing a large amount of civilians.

In the next seven days, 7 Brigades were deployed by the Allanean military. A message was sent out to the allied units, as follows:

Dear friends!

We would like to ask you all to tone down slightly the scale of the bombardments. We feel that massive civilian casualties would discourage progress in this country, and negatively affect post-war rebuilding while encouraging guerilla resistance.

Orders were being given out from Bonstocknian High Command to continue the bombing of Qingdao. Another twenty B-1 bombers were dispatched to the port city, with a load of 2,000 pound JDAMs to level the industrial areas in that city. Bombing of Shanghai and other areas was temporarily put on hold while this critical task was carried out.

Meanwhile, two Bonstocknian Zealous-class superdreadnoughts, each with twelve 30mm guns, headed towards Qingdao, escorted by the Bonstocknian 1st Fleet. Radio traffic around the fleet indicated a large task force. It was to be the first combat demonstration of these mighty ship in Bonstocknian service. Assault transport ships and escorting destroyers could be seen around the two massive battleships. the ships had orders to shell the city to the ground to prepare it for an amphibious assault, which reportedly contained the Bonstocknian 1st and 2nd Marine Divisions.

A lone bomber flew over the city an hour before the bombing was to occur, dropping leaflets informing the populace that the city was to be bombed and later invaded, and that they should evacuate to safer areas.

The bombers began to approach overhead, flying low over the ocean and at supersonic speeds, almost impossible to detect. They got close to the city, and then popped up to release their bombs. A few were hit by anti-aircraft fire, though managed to escape, hoping that they weren't being trailed by enemy fighters... after all, having completed their bombing run, they did not have the needed fuel to continue at supersonic speeds.

Naturally the High Command was displeased by the Velkyan transmission. The case was presented to Lord Harald.

"There are no civilian targets in that country," he coldly said.

That wasn't of course to be said aloud to the world community. So a statement was issued to Velkya from the Bonstocknian commanders:

The Bonstocknian Forces in the conflict are doing the best they can to target only military targets. It is unfortunate that our targets, factories producing war material, are located adjacent to heavily populated civilian areas. However, it is utterly necessary that these targets be eliminated so as to deny Yazmarea the ability to produce weapons and munitions. We are trying to eliminate the targets using precision-guided munitions in hopes that we will only destroy the factories, however some collateral damage cannot be avoided. We regret that, though we feel that the few civilian deaths that occur in the liberation of Yazmarea will be far justified in terms of how many would die should the Yazmarean regime be allowed to continue its existance.

Courtroom of the Investigative Tribunal

“All rise,” the bailiff called out, “for the honorable Judge Robert Falco, investigating magistrate.”

The judge, clad in his long black and red robes, entered the courtroom. He sat down at the bench and began his opening statement.

“This Tribunal has been formed by the Ministry of Justice under International Law to conduct inquires into the justifications surrounding the current military campaign underway in Yazmarea, specifically, whether the campaign currently underway is a legitimate operation against a dangerous rogue state or an illegal war of aggression. It is also to be investigated whether the governments of the coalition countries have lied in their justifications. If this Investigative Tribunal finds any evidence that international law was knowingly and willfully violated then it shall submit such evidence to the International Criminal Tribunal for possible prosecution.”

Judge Falco banged his gavel. “This Investigative Tribunal has officially started its inquiry, long live the King.”

The Judge began to read his first statement of inquiry. “This Tribunal hereby requests the presence of the following individuals for questioning.

President Lord Harald Gustavsson

Defense Secretary Lin Mei

Secretary of Foreign Affairs Jack Marsh

President Gerald M. Rossland

Grand General Griffin

Grand Admiral Jorgeson

Supreme Air Marshal Tao

The Captain of the Velkyan Naval Vessel Pride of Oured

President Frederick C. Atchinson

This Tribunal also requests that the logs and sensor recordings of the Pride of the Oured be turned over by the government of the Allied Union for detailed examination. Failure to cooperate with this Investigative Tribunal will be regarded as evidence of deceitful or illegal conduct by the parties listed.”

Official announcement of the United States Department of State

Yet again, the actions of the Amestrian government shock us in their duplicity. They ask us to send our President to be tried by them – without clarifying under what authority the trial must take place, or guaranteeing him a fair and open trial by a jury of his peers, which is the right of every individual, even if he does happen to be a public servant.

They condemn us of crimes against humanity – and speak not a word about comrade Lio Shaoqis concentration camps, nothing about his’ cultural revolution’, nothing about his attempt to exterminate millions of political and religious prisoners so that, God forbid, the Allied forces would not free them as we drove back the Proletarian Armies (the morality of using human waves of 75-year-old draftee soldiers in war against an enemy possessing superior firepower is not questionable according to the Amestrians).

With this in mind, we would like to make certain announcements.

First, the Allanean ground deployment will be boosted until it reaches total strength of 150,000 combat troops.

Second, the Allanean government is now launching a website jointly with the John Birch Society of Allanea, accessible at www.realcrimes.gov.al, where testimony of former Yazmarean camp inmates, former Yazmarean officials, and soldiers of the coalition, as well as video and photographic evidence of the crimes of the Yazmarean regime, will be made available openly.

Third, we would like to remind the so-called International Criminal Tribunal that the United States is not signatory to any international law binding us to it’s authority. As such, it has none, and it would not have the legal power to try the President of Allanea, or any other Coalition leader, even if he did slaughter every last Yazmarean with his bare hands, on live television. The best Amestria can do to protect human rights is to simply abandon the falsehood of international law and start invading oppressive nations – just as what we do in the United States.

In other news today, the nation of Amestria has condemned in the strongest terms the actions of the bourgeois invaders, even going as far as to demand the immediate trial of their leaders and military officers for the war crimes they have already committed in Yazmarea. Comrade Commader-in-Chief Liu Shaoqi has said in his daily speech: “While we cannot approve of the capitalist regime of Amestria, we must remember that they are on the right path with their reforms and protections of the workers. Judge Falco looked somewhat exasperated as he addressed the assembled reporters.

"Understand that I cannot address the specifics of the case or comment on the ongoing investigation. I am holding this conference merely to restate the purpose of this Investigative Tribunal. This Tribunal exists for the exclusive purpose of inquiring into the legality of the coalitions actions in Yazmarea and the truthfulness of their justifications. This is not a war crimes Tribunal, nor does the investigation of involve crimes against humanity, as the Allanean and the Yazmarean governments wrongly claim. Also, this Tribunal is exclusively investigative, I have no power to order arrests or pass judgment. This Tribunal exists solely to find the truth and I have simply requested certain individuals of interest come before this court and answer questions under oath, after which they are free to leave. This is about determining the truth."

The Judge paused. "The Truth; that is what I shall try to determine in my investigations."

We apologize that our bombers missed their targets. We were aiming for munitions factories. We sincerely apologize for the attacks on the civilian populace

Meanwhile, in Bonstock, word of the attacks had leaked to BSTV, and the populace was naturally outraged. A protest in Port Yuko drew 10 million demonstrators, calling for an immediate end to the bombings and Bonstocknian involvement. Threatened by a possible Senatorial referendum on his own Presidency, for the first time in his political career Lord Harald was forced to back down. The bombing was to be halted for a period of at least a week, and when restarted switched to using heavy rules of engagement that would hopefully satisfy international concerns. It wasn't gonna save any Bonstocknian lives, though, and it probably wouldn't satisfy demand either. Bonstock was in for a long, long war.

Allanean Deployment in South Yazmarea

Slowly at first, then at an ever accelerating pace, the Allanean troops began to advance. They rained death and destruction on the Proletarian Armies, using the full brunt their superior firepower and long-range rifles. Most of the time, the Proletarian troops would not even have the Allaneans in range of their own weapons as the men with the ABR-8's could outrange the AK47s by a factor of at least 3 to 1.

Above, B-2 bombers dropped an assortment of FAE and cluster munitions on anything that even looked remotely like a group of soldiers. Every mission, an average of 1000 tons of bombs dropped out by the B-2's alone, and they were not the only craft used. The Allaneans have also deployed 200 AA-227 Ultrafortresses – AA-227 cargo planes convereted into bomber slightly remininscent of the ancient B-17 - .50-cal turrets and all. Each of those was capapble of dropping out 250 tons of bombs.

The Proletarian Armies were in for a bad surprise.

With the Yazmarean armies distracted by the attacks of the Allaneans, the Bonstocknian High Command decided it was time to act. With ten carriers on station in the East China Sea, it was figured there would be more then enough support for the operation.

Bonstocknian F-22s stood down in Taiwan, preparing to deploy either to Macau or to a later invasion area. The bases were instead used for KC-10 refueling aircraft of the 11th and 87th Air Refueling Wing, tasked with supporting what Bonstocknian military planners had now dubbed "Operation Red Fire." In addition, a squadron of EC-130H Compass Call aircraft were on station.

Again, long range bombers took off from Bonstock. The 1st and 45th Bombardment Wings, each with nearly fifty B-1 bombers, flew towards Yazmarea, loaded with 500-pound JDAMs. A few hours later, over a hundred-and-fifty C-17 transport aircraft took off. The troops of the Bonstocknian 6th Airborne Division were aboard, waiting to jump.

The EC-130Hs took off soon. Flying towards their station in the East China Sea, they began intercepting Yazmarean transmissions. Then they began jamming them. The crews were well trained, jamming the communications after the communications had already began, so that it would not be so obvious that the communications were being purposefully jammed. Either way, it was enough.

Over two hundred F/A-18 Hornets took off from the Bonstocknian carriers, supported by EA-6 Prowlers. The EA-6s jammed Yazmarean radars, allowing the Bonstocknian fighter-bombers to go in close. The Hornets used HARM radiation-seeking missiles to attack Yazmarean air defenses and command and control networks around Shanghai, and fired AIM-120 and AIM-9M air-to-air missiles at any intercepting fighters.

With this blow completed, the B-1s, after being refueled over the East China Sea, flew over Yazmarean airfields and military bases in and around Shanghai, and dropped their JDAMs on Yazmarean tanks and parked aircraft on the ground that had been spotted by Bonstocknian satellites.

Finally, the C-17s flew overhead. Fifty of them flew over the Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Another fifty went over towards the main Shanghai container port facilities, while the remaining fifty flew towards the city center of Shanghai. In total, 7,500 Bonstocknian paratroopers dropped onto Shanghai.

The sheer force of the Allanean strike broke up the main bulk of the Allanean army like a glass dropping off the table. The sheer power of the strike was amazing, and thousands of brave Proletarian soldiers were killed in one fell swoop. Thousands more paniced and ran, only to be cut down by Allanean rifle and artillery fire.

The lack of communications was another factor, as the Bonstockian jamming caused terirble errors in judgement and navigation. A whole battalion was exterminated as they accidentally waded into a minefield in their retreat, unable to request HQ for coordnates.

And then the Bonstockian air attacks hit. They pelted the airbases with JDAMS, destroying hundreds of aircraft, and effectively decapitating the airforces. Tanks and infantry carriers burned, too, as the Bonstockians finished the works that the Allaneans had started. Thick, acrid smoke rose over Shanghai – and yet this was only the beginning.

And then, Bonstockian missiles hit air defenses and radar installations near Shanghai. Within hours, the Yazmarean soldiers there would become not only blind, but also defenseless. It was now obvious that an air attack of some form was in the works, but by now the Yazmareans could of course do nothing to defend themselves from it, and they knew it.

As the Bonstockian parachutes began to open over Shanghai, some of the guerillas ran out on the roof and began to shoot at them with their AK-47 rifles, RPK's and RPG-7's. It was not clear whether this would have any major effect – even though there were much more shooters then targets, they were ill-trained and their weapons lacked range and accuracy.

And in the meanwhile, on the Allanean front, the Proletarian army's retreat was already turning into full rout.

Shanghai Airport

"We're taking fire from the terminal!" a soldier screamed as an RPG hit nearby.

The brigade commander looked into it. "1st battalion, assault the terminal. Second battalion, take the air traffic control center. Third battalion will take the airport access roads."

"Get some mortars on that terminal!"

Four 81mm mortars were set up by the Bonstocknian 1st battalion, and aimed at resistance in the terminal. They softened resistance in the terminal and in the air traffic control center enough for the Bonstocknians to get in and assault those buildings. Bonstocknian soldiers, wearing night-vision goggles, formed into their small, four-man fireteams, and took each room one by one. They lobbed in flashbang grenades and then shot anything alive in the rooms. Thanks to the good fire support and tactics, casualties were minimal; only two Bonstocknians were killed, and the airport was soon secured.

A similar situation occured at the seaport facilities. Faced with only guerrillas, and not regular Yazmarean units, the Bonstocknians managed to achieve surprise. A few warehouses were occupied by snipers and machine gunners, but in the middle of the night these enemies could not see the Bonstocknians. Only three Bonstocknians were wounded and one killed securing the facilities.

Those that dropped into the city center experienced a bit more resistance. Stupidly, the Bonstocknians had dropped onto hard-concrete dropzones, leaving many soldiers with broken limbs. Though the night was dark, some of the guerrillas managed to find their targets. There were also more of them as the area was a more inhabited area. Still, Bonstocknian firepower was just too great. The Bonstocknians fired Javelin missiles and mortars into the guerrillas' hideouts, and then assaulted them with flash-bang grenades and their M-4 assault rifles. Ten Bonstocknians died, bringing the grand total of Bonstocknian dead to thirteen.

Casualties were unexpedtedly light. Soon, the Bonstocknian 6th Division air-landed the rest of its troops by C-17, including 105mm howitzers to provide fire support. Any guerrilla attacks would now lead to a barrage of 105mm shells. A squadron of Air Force A-10 Warthogs also flew in, providing more fire support. At the seaport, eight fast-sealift ships chugged into the harbor, and began unloading the equipment of the Bonstocknian 1st Armored Division, with its 300 M1A2 tanks. As dawn broke, Bonstocknian troops were patrolling the streets in Bradley Fighting Vehicles and Humvees, trying to flush out remaining guerrillas while JDAM-armed bombers flew overhead, ready to drop precision-guided weapons in support of the Bonstocknian troops.

Shanghai

While the Bonstockian units moved through the city in a fast and efficient manner, the rumours of their coming were even fasters. Soon enough, everyone knew of demonlike capitalist troops, moving like shadows, striking like lightning, unstoppable and unbeatable. What was not known was whether the Bonstockians had any mercy. Many – much more then Comrade Liu Shaoqi expected – then began to surrender.

Macau, Yazmarea

As the Proletarian Armies moved further and further into the North, Allanean troops were moving through the streets of Macau. They were faced with a truly alien sight. Where the Allanean cities were sprawling plains, filled with a variety of colored houses not taller then two stories, spreading for miled and miles in every direction, the streets of Macau were filled with dark-grey appartment buildings, the color flaking off the walls, posters dimming on the street corners. Across the streets, pale-red banners hung, praising the glory of the Cultural Revolution.

The Allanean tanks and IFV's moved slowly, solemnly through the city, positioning themselves at key point throughout the city. From the IFV's rushed troops, looking through condominiums, schools, and so forth for traces of insurgents. They found none. What they did find was much more terrible.

In one of the parks, Sergeant Drake Holiday found a young pair – none older then fifteen – kissing on a park bench. It was cold and damp – not the kind of day you want to be lying on your back in park bench, wearing only a light shirt and a short red skirt. Especially not when there are imperialist capitalist troops standing next to you.

“Get up!” - Drake Holiday may have sound ruder then he wanted to. “Do you speak any English?”

“Yes, Comra... I mean Sir.” - answered the girl. “They teached us in school. “

“What is your name, girl?”

“Gao. Gao Lang, Com... Sir.”

“Why are you doing this here... not at his home?”- Holiday asked, lowering his rifle.

“How would we..” - the girl struggled with her English.

The Sergeant raised his eyebrows. “Get into his room, lock the door from the inside...”

“Sir, his family – all in one room. My family – all in one room.”

The Sergeant was silent for a few seconds ,listening to the crunching of the leaves as his detachment stood calmly behind him. “Okay. Whatever. I – take – you - home now. Too dangerous here.”

* * * *

Sergeant Holiday's men did not quite expect that. The appartment they stepped into had twenty-three rooms, but of those, ten were sealed up - literally - with red seals covering the doors. In eacho the other ones, there was a family – three people, sometimes five. There was a single corridor running past all the rooms, and five people in line to the bathroom.

Holiday gulped. “Those people... live... like that?” He thought of the streets of Heston-city, wide and clean, with new cars zipping past the sidewalks, their fresh paint flashing gaudily in the sun, the red roofs of a thousand homes smiling back at him – and he thought of Macau, grey and somber, it's streets narrow and grim, ancient trolley cars crawling slowly, haphazardly through the city. He thought of his family sitting in front the television in a room like three of those those people had to spend all their lives in.

They found a person who spoke good English. “Who lives in the rooms that are sealed up?”

The man was surprised. “Nobody lives in them. They are sealed up so nobody would live in them. The building supervisor said so.”

“Bring him here.” - said Holiday, his hand feeling the holster of his USP .45.

The building supervisor's appartment was not fancy – two rooms only. The only privilege that the short, fattish man had was living in a separate appartment. Through the interpreter, Sergeant Holiday asked. “Why have you sealed the rooms down there?”

“So that there would be a number I could divide by the law – one family, one room.”

“The law?”

“Yes. There are not enough houses – the People's Republic cannot afford more – so they must re-divide the appartment space so that it is equitable for all. And if there are are extra rooms, they must be sealed up.” As he saw the change of Holiday's face, the Communist functionnaire added a phrase that it took the interpreter a few seconds to translate. “It's not that bad, Mister Allanean. It fosters community.”

Holiday was not listening. He was thinking of his first girlfriend – he was sixteen then. He brought her to his parents' house, up the stairs in his room, and into his bed – a big, white, king-size bed. He had never thought of life without a room of your own, a room where you could lock the door and be alone in your most private moments. He never thought of a house where a young boy would not have a room to bring his girlfriend into, and lock the door.

He remembered the trolley cars outside, dark-red, terrible things, with posters in Yazmarean explaining – apparently – that all riders were watched by television cameras. He thought of his current girlfriend and the night they spent the day before his departure to Yazmarea.

The big truck shook only lightly on its wheels. It was standing on a large hill, the lights of Heston-city glowing before. Sure, he could have taken her to his room. He preferred the truck, today. She thought it made it romantic. Also, she could use that to ask him not to go to war. “What are you doing it for, Drake? So that the Yazmareans could live in fancy homes, and cars like this? Is that worth killing for – or dying for?”

He looked at the Supervisor – and he didn't look at him. He looked at the collective face of those who would create a world where a young boy didn't have a door to lock the door in and a car with a back seat and a house where you don't wait in a six-person queue to the toilet and... He wished he could show everybody – all the world – what horror it was, what it was for, the cameras in the streets and the one-family rooms, and the trolleys, and the radio crackling, screaming in the corner.

“Will someone turn that thing off?”

“I'ts a Yazmarean radio, Sir.” - said a soldier. “You can turn it down. Not off.”

He did not quite remember what happened next. There was a red haze in front of his eyes as he grabbed the neck of the supervisor, toppled him to the floor, and grabbed his knife.

He did not remember the details. He remembered burning trolley cars in the streets – it seemed he was not the only Allanean reacting to this – this... whatever it was. He remember a child with scars on its knees – an eight year old that was punished by her teacher a few months ago by being made to kneel on broken glass. Not much more.

By the crack of dawn, Allaneans have killed 14,567 Yazmearean government officials in the city of Macau. Twenty thousandwere imprisoned. The trolley system was decimated, and the buildings of the Housing Allocation, Security and Monitoring, and Propaganda and Education Departments burned to the grounds.

The Bonstocknians recieved the surrenders gracefully. Civilians were told to return to their homes, and compensation was given to those whose homes had been damaged. Bonstocknian engineers from the 1st Armored Engineer Battalion and 6th Airborne Engineer battalion erected a small tent city in the parks to house those whose houses had been destroyed. The Bonstocknian 234th Civil Affairs Brigade was soon deployed to cooperate with local authorities to restore order and vital utilities, such as water and power. It was figured that since the city had been taken without putting up much of a fight, Bonstock would not only be merciful to the city, it would treat the inhabitants as friends.

General Jack Flash, the new commander of Bonstocknian Forces, Yazmarea, issued a statement from his new headquarters in Shanghai that Bonstocknian forces, now numbering some 50,000 troops, would not disturb anyone and would leave as soon as their job of ousting the Yazmarean government had been accomplished.

General Flash also made sure to commence broadcasts of Radio-Television Free Yazmarea, using Yazmarean collaborators to broadcast Bonstock's generosity in Shanghai. Yazmarean civilians were told that Bonstock would leave alone anyone who surrenedered peacefully, and Yazmarean soldiers were told that if they put down their weapons and surrendered, Bonstock would see to it that they were repatriated as soon as possible. They were even told that if they threw down their weapons, stopped resisting, and went home, the Bonstocknians would not even bother to take them prisoner. However, soldiers and civilians alike were warned that futile resistance would lead to death.

Meanwhile, the Bonstocknians set about commandering any industry they hadn't destoryed in Shanghai, to produce consumer goods for the populace and bombs and bullets for the Bonstocknian war machine.

Another Bonstocknian Division, the 1st Marine, was soon sealifted into Shanghai, and offensive operations were commenced. Bonstocknian PBRs, which looked oddly similar to the Vietnam-era PBRs, began travelling up the Yangtze, supported by AH-64 Apache helicopters, to flush out resistance. The Marines were close behind. Using LCACs, AAVs, and helicopters, they began travelling up the Yangtze to destroy any resistance the PBRs found.

The Bonstocknian 1st Armored Division began making its advance too. Over a hundred Apache helicopters flew ahead, scouting resistance, while a similar number of MLRS units based in Shanghai were ready to pulverize anything. The mighty arm of Bonstocknian armor began to advance, with its three hundred tanks supported by three thousand infantrymen in Humvees and IFVs began advancing towards the town of Suzhou, about 40 miles west of Shanghai. Bonstocknian B-1 bombers dropped leaflets on the town, asking for its surrender and promising that Bonstock would leave soon and not cause damage.

Bonstocknian paratroopers of the 6th Airborne Division retired to the Shanghai Pudong Airport, as a reserve. A brigade of Bonstocknian Military Police were the only armed Bonstocknian troops allowed in Shanghai after the city was declared secure. Other then that, local authorities were allowed to maintain control. General Flash agreed not to try any cooperating officials for crimes committed during Liu's regime.

A convoy of about ten Humvees sped along the road from Shanghai. Members of the 1st Armored Division, they were a scout platoon sent to flush out enemy resistance. Riding along the roads, they were supposed to be ambushed; it was their job. Naturally, Specialist Andrew Chen had some jitters as he held onto his .50 caliber machine gun on the Humvee's roof. Below him, his high-school friend, Amar Sunder, was driving, listening to music, as if trying to forget that he was in a combat zone. Next to him sat an older man, Sergeant Jim Kapeno, a middle-aged native-Bonstocknian fellow.

Sergeant Kapeno leaned over to turn off Amar's music. "We're in a combat zone," he said.

"It can't be too bad," Amar said. He continued lipping the lyrics to the Indian rap song he had been listening to.

"Oh, god," Andrew kept repeating softly.

"You all right up there buddy?" Amar said looking up.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Andrew said back. But he looked tense, white as a sheet despite his Asian features.

"Hey, come on Andrew these are you're people," Amar said, laughing, "they won't shoot you."

"Pipe down, Private," Kapeno snapped. "You two city boys are in for the ride of your life. There's a town up ahead, called Kunshan on the map. We're supposed to assault it. We may have to dismount and take the houses one by one."

Suddenly an RPG whisshed overhead. "Whao!" Amar said, and came to a stop.

"Speed up!" Kapeno screamed. Overhead, Andrew aimed his .50 caliber, and let loose a hail of bullets at the launcher. A few seconds later, there was silence.

"Is everybody alright?" Kapeno asked.

Amar and Andrew answered affirmatively. Andrew was still catching his breath, staring at the area from where the RPG had been fired and panting heavily.

"Holy crap," Amar said, "That went only like a foot above us."

"There's plenty more where that came from," Kapeno said. "Let's keep going." The Humvees pushed on.

About fifteen minutes went past. They began to enter a small town. A few kids looked on as the Humvees rolled in.

"Wow, pretty messed up place," Amar said. "It's like the time I went back to see my grandparents in India."

"Can it, kid," Kapeno said. "I don't think you've lived like this."

"Sure wouldn't want to," Amar said.

Kapeno looked out. "Almost as bad as my hometown."

Andrew was still up, and very jittery, aiming the machine gun at each of the kids, in case any of them got any closer. Most of them ran away. But one man stepped out of his building, a white flag in hand. In decent English, he began to speak. "Hello... I am Commissar Peng Yufei, the mayor of this town. I offer you our surrender."

"All right. Just let us search the town and we'll be on our way."

"Thank you."

The Humvees continued on through the streets....

Joint Allanean-Yazmarean postage

It was now – when all thought it was over – that the counterassault began. Yazmarean troops and guerillas, hiding in basements in Shanghai and Macau, would rush out suddenly and attack Coalition forces. Sometimes, an MRLS launch would be made against an already ‘pacified’ city – and by the time the Coalition troops got to the launch zone, only an abandoned launcher would be found – if that.

Sometimes a child would run up to a truck full of Bonstockian troops and throw a grenade at it. Sometimes a schoolteacher would shoot at a passing Allanean tank from the top of his schoolhouse.

Even as that happen, more and more cities officially surrendered. It was pointless to engage the coalition in conventional war, and all knew it. The communists assassinated those who surrendered, but it didn’t help. On the other hand, several suicide bombings in Macau that killed 56 Allanean troops and 68 Yazmarean civilians probably would.

In the Allanean media, the pictures of torn-apart bodies and burning flesh filled the front pages. The opposition flung dirt at the President – at least in one case, literally, and the offending Congressman was removed from the Debate Hall.

And, from unknown underground printing houses, a newsletter titled The Red Star appeared, begging the Yazmareans to continue the Glorious Armed Struggle. In sympathy with this struggle, hundreds of Ambivalentira in Allanea went on hunger strike. The same happened with 10 Ambivalentira who traveled to Macau to do that.

In Shanghai, a convoy of trucks was carrying troops of the 6th Airborne. A Bonstocknian sergeant looked out from his Humvee. He saw a young girl of about twelve approach. He relaxed his guard a bit, lowering his M-4 carbine. Suddenly, the girl tossed in a small package. The sergeant looked at it. "Oh, shit!" he said, seeing the grenade inside.

Four Bonstocknian soldiers were killed instantly, and the young girl instantly shot. Dozens of other firefights were recorded by Bonstocknian forces, with another five Bonstocknians dying in two days of violence.

Bonstocknian support troops, for the most part, retreated to the secured port and airport facilities, while up-armored Humvees and Bradley IFVs patrolled the streets. All of them were mounted with propaganda speakers, saying that Bonstock would be peaceful if resistance stopped.

Meanwhile, Bonstocknian troops, though slightly more weary, continued to hand out food and water for the people of Shanghai and other areas.

Most of the rocket launches were innaccurate, though one ammo bunker was hit near the Shanghai seaport, meaning it would be a few more hours before Bonstocknian airborne units recieved ammunition. Two Bonstocknians were killed, bringing the total dead to eleven.

Meanwhile, the Bonstocknian 1st Armored Division began its assault on the town of Suzhou.... (more later)

Bonstocknian F-35 and A-10 fighters beegan patrolling over Shanghai and other cties, ready to drop JDAMs on suspected rocket launchers at a moments notice. Counter-battery radars were put in place to detect launches. Responses could be made within a minute.

Meanwhile, a task force of six Spruance-class destroyers and nine San Antonio-class LPDs began travelling up the Yangtze, towards Nanjing, Wuhan, and other cities. Any resistance was met by a swift assault by 5 inch guns and amphibious troops. All treffic along the Yangtze was interdicted, and searched for weapons. Warships began to position themselves near the enterence of the Grand Canal, to cut off food and other supplies from the rich Yangtze region to the north.

More troops were on their way to Shanghai, to bring Bonstocknian troop totals to ten divisions.

Yazmarean Shanghai

Unlike their Allanean and Bonstockian allies, the Velkyan troops had suffered only light casualties, only around twenty dead and a few hundred wounded, mainly due to the fact that the only Velkyan ground forces were SAM batteries and forward observers. But that was soon to change. All over allied-held port cities, troop and transport ships filled with soldiers began to arrive, as AUADF fighters provided escort. Naval Defense Force ships were all over the ocean, hunting down rouge Yazmarean shipping and supporting ground operations.

After Action Report, Bonstocknian Expeditionary Force, Yazmarea, 6 May 2006

The Bonstocknian 1st Armored Division, supported by truck-borne units of the 1st Infantry Division, assaulted and siezed Kunshan and Suzhou. Resistance was light, consisting of a few partisans. No contact was made with mainforce Yazmarean Army units. Units were ordered to stand down while resupplied during the night. On its way, the Bonstocknian truck convoy was attacked, and four trucks full of fuel were destroyed and five Bonstocknians were killed. At 0900 Hours the next day, the Bonstocknian tank column began rumbling towards Wuxi.

Another troop column with the Bonstocknian 16th Infantry Division pushed south-west from Shanghai, siezing Sijing and Songjiang, and proceeding towards Jiaxing. After landing at Shanghai Airport, units of the 34th Infantry Division marched south and then along the coast, their objective being to sieze Xiashi. About a hundred Bonstocknian A-10 Warthogs of the 24th Fighter Wing patrolled overhead, interdicting and destroying any mainforce Yazmarean columns before they reached Bonstocknian units. Six Bonstocknians were killed in random firefights with isolated Yazmarean units.

Meanwhile, two more Bonstocknian divisions formed a strategic reserve in Shanghai.

In the meanwhile, the Allaneans began a series of airborne attack throughout the country. B-2 jets pounded military warehouses, train lines, and electrical lines into rubble, reaching out to the very north of the country, dropping Tallboy bombs on outposts on the very Dersconi border and on factory smokestacks in Tibet.

Five hours after the bombing was over – and peace activists in Allanea were already beginning to protest the inevitable civilian casualties – the Allanean Army began to gear up for some major action, even despite 16 people were killed in Yazmarean guerilla attacks. A simple, yet urgent wire was sent to all participants of the fray on the coalition side:

Well, then. Seems we did most of the work by now. How about we all meet up and discuss a common strike on the capital?

General Flash was walking into the map room, where several aides stood deliberating while the maps showed the disposition of Bonstocknian forces in Yazmarea. The room was dimmed, save for a single naked bulb right over the map; several men sat at desks with computers around them, recieving and sending messages.

Colonel Peter Rasper, chief of intelligence for the operation, was by the map, and he greeted General Flash. A thin, short man, he stood tall as he could in his olive uniform. After some brief talk about how their nights had gone, General Flash began to quiz his subordinate.

"Colonel," he said, "Have our objectives been met?"

"Most've 'em, sir. Why save for a few guerrillas, it looks like the whole goddamn Yazmarean army has just given up."

"There must be some in between us and Beijing. It's just too easy otherwise."

"Sir, Allanean and Velkyan units are looking to see if we can end the war quickly and decisively. I say we do so."

"I say we gather our armor, and make a strike across the Yangtze at Nanjing and then advance on Xi'an. If we attack there, we can threaten Beijing from the south-west, so the enemy will deploy forces to engage us. Meanwhile, we have an armored reserve built up in Shanghai, and we'll directly strike for Beijing. Yazmarean units will be far to immobile to do anything about it."

"Alright, sir. Should I contact the allies about this?"

"Certainly."

A message was sent out to the Allaneans and Velkyans, telling them about the details of Bonstock's planned operation, and asking for forces to be sent to Bonstocknian-occupied Shanghai to help with the operation.

Joined by the Bonstocknian 2nd and 46th Armored Divisions, the 1st Armored Division's advance continued. Nearly a thousand tanks were rumbling through the Yazmarean rice paddies and cities. Resistance was light, a few rockets here, some small arms fire there. Roadside bombs were the worst, but the tanks usually were invulnerable as the bombs were far to small. The only significant casualties came when a Bonstocknian tank rolled into a river, its trapped crew of four killed.

Wuxi fell, and was occupied by Bonstocknian infantrymen. The column pressed on to sieze Nanjing. Bonstocknian destroyers from the sea managed to travel up the Yangtze, and began shelling the city. Bonstocknian A-10s flew in to destroy tanks, artillery, supplies, train stations, and troop concentrations. The tanks came rumbling in after, with infantry to sieze the city, the jumping off point for the rest of Bonstock's war strategy.

The attempts to negotiate with Liu Shaoqi or the rest of the Yazmarean government had failed. With that realization, the grim Kahanistanian ground forces moved north, slowly and determinedly fighting their way through the poorly armed Yazmarean infantry. They were pushing slowly, attempting to force a small path towards a major military base they could use as a fortress and supply point.

To do that, they did not need to kill all or even most of the Yazmareans, only the ones directly in their path. The troops were ordered to save their bullets and move behind the few armored forces, sometimes mixing with the armor in the front line to engage any anti-armor units with infantry. (Not that such primitive weaponry would be effective against a Merkava IV.)

As the Bonstockian units moved to Shanghai, the Allaneans moved there as well. Now, they intiated a policy of 'extreme prejudice' – using vast, unprecedented amounts of firepower against the rebel forces. Rumours began to spread about infantrymen shot point-black with 140mm tank cannon, village huts bombed with 5-ton anti-ship munitions, artillery fire brought down on small groups of five rebels. Soon, Allaneans acquired a near-mystical reputation. That was augmented by leaflets dropped among the civilians – depicting a soldier carrying a full-automatic 12-gauge shotgun/grenade launcher, the belt from which it fed wrapped around his hand, fire erupting from the barrel of the weapon. The slogan on the leaflet said THIS IS HOW WE FIGHT, and on the back there was an explanation of what the strange weapon was.

In the meanwhile, in a mobile HQ south of Shanghai, the Allanean commander waited for a visit from his allies.

Nanjing

A large column of Bonstocknian tanks rolled into the city at around seven in the morning. Infantry walked alongside, their weapons ready. Small arms fire could be heard in the distance, as well as artillery fire from behind Bonstocknian lines. Overhead, Bonstocknian jets tore through the skies, screeching as they whizzed back and forth dropping bombs.

The lead elements, of 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division, were approaching on a main road coming in from the east. A small fireteam of four Bonstocknian soldiers was walking alongside a Bonstocknian Abrams tank. Suddenly, a machine gun sputtered in a nearby building across an intersection. Instinctively, the Bonstocknian soldiers dove for cover behind a bench, and opened fire. The .50 caliber machine gun mounted on the tank took care of the one gunner, but more opened up. The one Bonstocknian fireteam provided covering fire while another four Bonstocknians rushed into the building, and began handling the rooms in the building one by one. One Bonstocknian was wounded, though not seriously. Bonstocknians were well trained in urban tactics.

Then the Bonstocknians ran into heavy resistance. At least a division or so of Yazmarean regulars had entrenched themselves in the city center. The Bonstocknians attacked, but the lead tank platoon was annihilated when ambushed by enemy mines and RPGs. The Bonstocknian 1st Battalion, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division moved in, dismounting from their Bradley fighting vehicles and proceeding into city center. Yazmarean soldiers began shooting them. Of the six hundred Bonstocknians in the assault, nearly a hundred were wounded, twenty killed in a bloody assault before the Bonstocknians withdrew. It was about twelve. General Flash looked at the situation from his headquarters, and ordered a battalion of the 6th Airborne Division to be choppered in to sieze the Nanjing Yangtze river bridge, thus cutting off the Yazmarean's line of supply and retreat.

Preparations were ready by dusk. As night fell, sixty UH-60 helicopters took off from Shanghai International Airport, with the 3rd Battalion, 1st Brigade, 6th Airborne Division, with its 750 soldiers. Bonstocknian A-10s and AH-64s attacked any garrisons surrounding the bridge. Then the Bonstocknians flew in from due east of the bridge.

Two companies of 150 men each landed on the far side of the bridge, and another two companies landed on the near side. Instantly, the Bonstocknians took up defensive positions in buildings, and began interdicting traffic. The battalion headquarters, with the last of the troops, was soon landed. Yazmareans, deficient in night-vision systems, would have to wait until morning to attack. Meanwhile, firefights erupted around the city, with Bonstocknian soldiers fighting from buildings and trying to drain Yazmarean rescources.

When the Yazmarean assault came, it was hasty and poorly organized. Bonstocknian soldiers fought off the first wave from the north, and then fell back closer to the bridge to handle the second wave. Both attacks were regiment or brigade strength, and resulted in light casualties for the Bonstocknians; 10 were dead, and fifty wounded. Enemy casualties were unknown, but expected to be heavy.

Meanwhile, the Yazmareans had dug in still in Nanjing's city center, but Bonstocknians soon closed the noose. A fresh Bonstocknian assault spearheaded by tanks rolled in at noon the next day, and organized resistance collapsed. Nanjing was declared secure a few hours later.

General Flash quickly flew over to the Allanean commander's headquarters. Fresh intel had just told him that a good deal of Yazmarean regular units between Shanghai and Beijing had been destroyed in the Nanjing pocket. Flash proposed a speedy armored advance to Beijing, to take advantage of the lack of resistance.

He put his hand on his phone to order the attack. And then, the unexpected happened.

A bunker in Beijing

Liu Shaoqi looked sadly at his papers. He knew something that the aides and assistants were not even capable of guessing. He knew that the main forces of Yazmarea were going to fall – were falling even now. He knew that even if the enemies were later thrown out of the nation, he, Liu himself, would be killed or arrested by the invading forces.

And then, he had an idea. It wasn’t particularly moral or Chairmanlike, but he knew the time had come. He shaved off his characteristic beard, put a small black card holder in his pocket, and ripped off the ranks of his uniform. Then, he left the building, and began to walk out of the capital.

The cards, of course, had links to his account in a prominent Menelmacari bank where he had long been anonymously storing… let’s just say wealth and not nitpick Comrade Shaoqi about it’s sources.

He had his pockets stuffed with Yazmarean currency and SUMUs (Socialist Union Monetary Units) – and somewhere he found a big-engined bike and helmet. The helmet kept his face hidden as he left the city.

It was his disappearance that was eventually reported to the Allanean commander.

The Bonstocknians immidiately began their advance. Comrade Liu, they had heard, was gone; intel had confirmed it. Timing was perfect. With no one able to properly command and control the Yazmareans, they would soon fall.

B-2 bombers, flying from Bonstock, made sure that Yazmarea was unable to command its forces. Eight of them flew over Beijing one night, dropping JDAMs on major communications and transportation related targets. Virtually unnoticed, they flew away.

Then the Bonstocknian tanks began to approach. Provided with aircover from B-1s and B-52s and their GPS guided bombs, they started to advance at a rate of thirty miles per hour north from Nanjing. Ten whole divisions of Bonstocknian armor, and more on the way.

Official Announcement of the Allanean Government

Dear Friends!

It seems to us that the main task of destroying the Yazmarean military has been accomplished. The capital of the Yazmarean nation is in ruins, and the leader of the 'nation' has escaped. We believe it is now time to discuss important issues – such as which nations would be responsible for the control of different parts of former Yazmarea, and the weeding out of insurgents in these parts. Perhaps it would be for the best that you meet with me in Liberty-City for this purpose?
