(An M1A2 of the Saudi Arabian Mechinized divison on the move)

Basic Info:
Following the Border "Conflict" of May 1998, the border disputes between Saudi Arabia and Yemen were settled. Things were at peace, although the tribes on the Yemen side near Sa 'dah refused to identify the remarked border, the same occuring with a Saudi tribe on the other side.

Both tribes traded words and even threatened violence upon each other. 2 Weeks ago Yemen sent 10 soldiers to watch the border, when 7 days ago the Saudi tribe headed to have another go-around with the Yemen tribe, the Border guards fired upon the Saudi tribe, leaving 6 dead and 2 wounded, who retreated back to the village. Armed with WW2 era rifles, they headed back to the border, and opened fire upon the Yemen border guards, killing 2 and wounding several others before being chased back.

Then, in the next 4 days, Saudi Arabia reported that Yemenise forces had opened fire on Saudi border guards to the West, and had actually attempted the cross the border and take several villages.

Currently:

The Saudi Arabian Army has issued a Mechinized brigade to the Yemen border to prevent further attacks, consiting of several M3 Bradley IFV's and M1A2's, around 100 troops, and a few 155mm self-propelled howitzers in the event of further escalation. They have also requested that the Yemen border guards are pulled back to Sa 'dah.

OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT REPLY

The Government can assure the world community, that the attacks upon tribes have been greatly Exaggerated by the Saudi's as propaganda for their own gains. We know nothing of the current attacks upon their border defenses, and refuse to accept their call for the pull back of our border forces.

ICly:
The Yemen air force prepared to cover the border, sending 6 of it's Mig-21F's to fly off the coast of the nation and up the red sea to patrol the waters off the coast of Saudi arabia.

2 SU-27's were also despatched from Sanaa to fly along the border, along with a mechinized force consisting of 6 T-72s and several BMP's were dispatched along the border as a show of force, and the immense tension began...

The Mig-21F's continued on their flight up the coast, when they appeared on the Radar of the airbase in Jeddah on the Saudi coast. The Radar operator sent a call to the Forces at the base, and prepared to equip the planes for destroying the enemy target. 4 Eurofighters armed with AIM-155's and Sidewinders were launched from Prince Abdullah Air Base, and flew southernly to intercept the enemy fighters seen on radar. As the pilots continued forward, they armed the AAAM's and prepared for the fight.

The Eurofighters got within range, and unleashed their AAAM's at the Mig-21F's. They watched the missile approach on radar, and watched all 6 impact on the Mig-21's, as their remains fell into the sea. The pilots congratulated each other, and headed back the the airbase.

The Yemen air command center in Sanaa noticed they had lost contact with the Mig-21's, and frantically tried to contact them. After it seemed that they were gone, about 10 minutes later, they concluded that they had been shot down the the Saudi Arabian air force, and ordered several artillery peices to shell the Saudi border. Around a dozen 105mm Self propelled howitzers set up to the East, and began to shell villages and military outposts.

[ooc: annexing Yemen is not going to go so easily in the international community...otherwise, you're playing this rather well alone...and it's actually not that biased to one side...]

The Republic of France demands that the governments in Yemen and Saudi Arabia get a grip over the political situation in their autonomous tribes along their border. The recent military actions are not justified in any real sense, that neither side has prompted to employ diplomatic venues to resolve this crisis.

The Yemenese goverment has show time, and time again that they would rather opt for military action without persuing peace, and we feel attacking them would be justified. Are you aware that Yemen has funded terrorism in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Oman ? Are you aware that over 74% of Yemen's military expendures are from the black market ? Are you aware that the Yemen goverment ordered the attack upon the USS Cole ? All of this we have learned through informats situated throught their country. Are you aware that a report recieved recently stated about shipping several hundred explosive materials to terror cells in our capital, and in Baghdad ? We have very acceptable reasons for defending our forces. The Yemen goverment is corrupt, full of greed, and is mearly a puppet run by terrorists.

Saudi-Yemen Border

The Shelling by Yemenese forces, while light, managed to inflict minor military casualties, leaving 12 dead and 18 wounded at the border outpost to the east, and over 62 civilians dead in the town of Zachar along the border. The M1A2's had been quick to respond, silencing several of the Artillery peices.

Minor Troop skirmishes were occuring in Zachar, the Western border Outpost(Were one T-72 had blown through a concrete barrier and was attacking the outpost), and along the western edge of the red sea.

The Mechinized divison was ordered to spread out, with the Bradleys opening fire upon the Yemenese border guards who had initaited the fighter, destroying their empacements and killing the majority of them. The Yemenese BMP-2's sat outside the nomadic village, lobbing shells into the Saudi postion with no sucsess.

Several troops ran into the town, firing their Styer AUG's at the Yemenese tribesman, who fled before being shot. 4 F-15E's from the Prince Aughbar Air base outside Zachar began to assit by firing unguided rockets into a military postion on the southernly road from the border, killing several troops and turning an elderly pillbox into a pile of rubble.

The Yemenese responded by launching 6 SU-22's who scared off the F-15's before half were downed by SAM's outside Zachar. At this time 6 F-15E's and 2 Tornado's were launched from Jeddah to bomb military postions around Sanaa.

The F-15E's and Tornado's inflitrated into yemen, taking out several Sam sites with HAARM missiles, before moving to the targets in Sanaa, launching smart weapons at Military offices, barrack's, and several radar installations and weapon warehouses.

4 Days later

The attacks across Yemen in the previous days had givin the expected effect. Several Air bases in Western Yemen had been knocked out of commision, with the loss of only 3 Tornado F.3's. On the ground, the Mechinzed brigade had pushed south in the confusion to Hajjah, just northwest of the Capital, while cutting off yemen troops within the town of 'Amran, which were being forced out by air attacks. Fighting near Sa'dah was intense, killing some 120 Saudi Soldiers, and costing several IFV's and an F-15. Rocket and artillery fire at the town was intense, but the Yemen soldiers just kept fighting.

Several T-72's from Sa'dah had pushed North toward Hajjah, to be destroyed by M1A2's and Air Strikes. A F300S Frigate had been Sent from Jeddah down into the Red Sea to fire upon the port town of As Salif, destroying it's docks and several shipping stores.

The Yemen Air force was in dissary, and it tried it's best to counter the Air Superiority by using close in Air support. It's SU-27's had been shot down in an Dogfight over the Gulf of Aden, while it's SU-22's had been moved back to the city of Sayhut in the East.

The newly aquired Chinese MLRS was put to use, set up outside Hajjah and attacking suspected enemy troop postions in and around Bayda. The largest air strike since the gulf war was ordered on the 3rd night, in which 8 F-15E's and 6 Tornado's attacked the Air base on the island of Socotra in the Arabian sea, destroying it's airfield, hangar's, and command buildings, along with two SAM postions overlooking the entrance to the Gulf of Aden.

The Majority of the Yemen Army was stationed in and around the capital, and began to push forward to Al Mahwit, only to be pushed back by artillery strikes.
