Yoboland National News

This is Yoboland National News. Tonight we bring you the story that has shocked the nation; our neighbours Cape Tarp, a colony of Questers has been invaded by one of our national heroes.

Knight of the first order Ho-Li has been open and frank about his far right politics for years, being from a long line of Tarpians he believes that the occupying Questerian forces should be thrown out. He has attended regular Tarpian power movement rallies that have been dispersed by the national authorities for almost ten years. However today he crossed the line. He took The crusade force under his command, defected from the Yobbite Armed Forces and launched a fierce campaign against the Questerian forces in Carpe Tarp.

His Holiness Wao-Tsung has given a press release thie evening presuading the country to remain calm.

"Yob is with us!" He cried. "And the traitor Ho-Li will be brought to justice before a Yobbite court within the week! I have full trust in the capabilities of the Armed forces of Yoboland and know that we can have this swiftly under control. We have yet to formally discuss the situation with Questerian representatives. However I'm sure they will rely on us to deal with Ho-Li and his rebel militia as fast as possible..."

We will keep you up to date with the battles raging across Carpe Tarp as we receive reports.

Military Base [Restricted Location] 20:28

A siren sounds and soldiers run to and fro whilst the crack team of monks that were on standby board their helicopter transports.

Sky above Yoboland 20:38

The teams of elite Monks were being briefed on their operation to retaliate against the invaders of Carpe Tarp.
"Soldiers! Tonight we're pulling a standard target destruction maneuvor. Your target is here!" The Sergeant points at a map of Carpe tarp and specifically at the power station. "We need to hit this location to make it more difficult for the rebels on the island. The operation should be fairly simple. You are separated into ten squads. Different squads will have different sites to plant explosives, other will simply be covering the area. To knock the site out fully and do the least amount of lasting damage we need to cause a number of smaller explosions all around the site. Your target area is here", he points to one of the large transformers on the site. Do you understand soldiers?"

To which there came a resounding "Yessir!" from the squad in the chopper.

The helicopters suddenly dove down and slowed to a hover for a few seconds as the monks leapt from the chopper and slip down their rappell ropes. Then, they were on the ground and the helicopters were lifting away. The monks broke into a full sprint there were other similarly clad individuals running around securing the site. As the bomb squads made their way to the targets others were collecting together all the civillians from the building and bringing them outside.

"Sir! We are under fire from site security, requesting orders!"

"Dispatch them if they are in the way, we have no time to lose."

Quickly, responses were coming in announcing that the bombs were in position and ready to be fired.
Finally the last squad reported in.

"End of operation! All soldiers to their exit points!" then the field commander changed frequency on his radio. "Helicopter flight Alpha do you read me?"

"We do field commander."

"End of operation, pick up your soldiers."

The helicopters hovered down and the monks ran and boarded up quickly. The last man on the last chopper was the field commander. He had the detonator in his right hand. He glanced at his watch. 20:59.55, The helicopter began to fly away but the commander watched out the side of the chopper, 20:59.56, 20:59.57, 20:59.58, 20:59.59, 21:00.00. click, was the sound the detonator made as he pressed the big red button.

Carp Tarp Power Plant

'Fuck.'

Chief security guard Arnold North winced as several giant explosions ripped apart the transformer pack to the north of the complex. Smoke drifted across Cape Tarp city, now silent as every single light had dissapeared, at least electric ones anyway. Resistance had been weak and sporadic - the attackers were well equipped, well trained, and swift. There were no dead - several badly wounded, yes, but no dead. And worse, there was nothing to make contact. The mobile phone mast's reserve battery was some years old and was not really in good condition, and in any case, military communications over an easily tapped mobile phone were never a good thing.

Sir Bedivere Bridge

The bridge was a halfway point - half of it was owned by the Questarian Colonial Government, and the other half by Yoboland. There was another small bridge behind Sir Bedivere called Black Anthony Bridge - named after the knights horse. This was were Colonel Yamashita Takakaze had made his temporary HQ. Behind the blacked out bunker lay a battery of 122mm anti tank guns covering Black Anthony Bridge. Trenches and foxholes barracked around two hundred soldiers, and a number of giant spotlights lay around sandbags emplaced on different locations so as not to show up the fairly well hidden anti tank guns.

'Sir?' Takakaze quickly turned around and shone the field torch at the intruder - a saluting recon trooper from a forward operating position. 'Lance Corporal Rogers, 1st Battalion Recce Section.'

'I see.' Takakaze saluted back. 'Report?'

'Yessir. Enemy forces massing on the Yobbite side of Sir Bedivere bridge - armour, not quite sure, but its heavy stuff. Trucks, APCs, the like. Could be a full scale invasion.'

Takakaze nodded. 'I see. What anti tank 'quip do we have down there?'

'A pair of one-two-twos, a number of light ATGMs.. Milans, I think.. And some mines.'

'Right. You head on right back there and give your Section Commander this message' - Takakaze stopped to scribble some writing on a sheet of paper - 'And hurry up.'

'Yessir' The soldier saluted and left, gunning his jeep straight down to his unit.

Twelve minutes later

A convoy of six eight ton trucks rumbled down Black Anthony Bridge, three of them dragging a wheeled anti tank gun. Stopping at the the end of Sir Bedivere bridge, engineers jump out of the trucks and begin assembling the guns and their neccessary emplacements.

However, these are not all the preparations made - the Royal Engineers are renowned for their explosives work, and predictably the bridge was mined as well as rigged with explosives. Engineers on ropes descended down to the struts and taking advantage of construction knowledge, planted heavy explosives and wired them back up again to a remote control at the foot of the bridge. Now, five anti tank guns, at least two dozen ATGMs, a large scattering of mines, and almost a hundred infantrymen.

Behind Black Anthony Bridge, the first column of tanks had arrived - twelve Champion L4A2s, the Questarian MBT designed to combat NS tanks with its heavy gun and good frontal armour. The tanks lined up one after another on the side of Black Anthony Bridge, the commander jumping out of his vehicle to get his orders.

Nevertheless, communications have been severely hampered, RAF Cape Tarp has only just received word of deployments fourty minutes after the powerplant attack, the armour garrison at the north still has no idea of the pending invasion, and infantry units scattered about the island are waiting for their orders, confused as their command is unsure of their location and they are unsure of their commands location. Engineers and technicians are still frantically working on getting up backup transformers, and all communication has to be done via a mobile phone or personal message.

"Halt Soldiers!"

After screaming his command Ho-Li then clambered down from the hatch of the Mekhev tank into the crew area. The tanks and trucks began to rolled to a halt He then pulled the radio of it's cradle.

"Recon? This is your commander report!"

"We went under the bridge as instructed and we got prettty close tot heir fortifications."

"And?"

"They've got over around 200 men up there and from tapping their comms equipment we learned that they've got some, not much anti-tank equipment."

"Good work, sit tight and keep your ears open."

"Will do. Over"

Ho-Li then changed the frequency on his radio.

"Artillery? Are you ready?"

"Yessir, we're in position and awaiting your command."

"Good..."

"On my mark... Fire!"

He scrambled uickly and pushed open the hatch to see the bright shells fly over his head and scream down over the enemy fortifications. Jumping back down to his radio he yelled down it.

"All units! Go Go Go!"

Following his command the Mekhev tanks still clean from the factory, not even a scratch on most of them thundered forward onto the bridge. Behind them APCs and trucks carrying infantry.

The invasion force thundered forward as another volley from the artillery fell upon the fortifications.

"Artillery, Hold your fire..." Change in frequency, "Armour open fire"

Charging forward the tanks exploded shells from their barrels lighting up the bridge as they continued gettng ecer closer to the Questerian line.

Black Anthony Bridge

The roar of Yobbite armoured vehicles resounded through the normally calm night. Suddenly, the importance of the situation weighed down on Colonel Takakaze - he was fighting the first defensive operation in the Army's history. The radio crackled and Takakaze switched on the receiver.

'Zulu One One to Command, the enemy has given light artillery fire and is moving over the bridge - BOOM permission to engage?'

'Command to Zulu One One, permission to engage granted, hold your fire and await reinforcements, over'

The Colonel looked out of his command bunker at the Champion tanks revving their engines. As they accelerated off into the mess of tracer fire and explosions three klicks ahead, Takakaze wondered whether they would return to fight again.

Sir Bedivere Bridge

'GREEN LIGHT! REPEAT, GREEN LIGHT!' Captain Morella screamed to the anti tank gun next to her command foxhole.

'You what?' the gun commander squinted and shouted back as a tank round exploded not too far away.

'Green fucking light! SHOOT!' the Captain screamed again. The dark was overwhelming, but she still managed to make out the grin on the Lieutenants face when he realised the orders. Making a few movements to his crew, the 122mm anti tank gun promptly swung around and let loose a sabot in the direction of the advancing enemy armour.

Resistance was sporadic yet dedicated. Fire and forget anti tank missiles and recoilless guns massed in trenches and sandbagged foxholes lit up the bridge like Bonfire Night, but it was not enough to repel the heavy armoured advance laid down by the Yobbite rebels. Slowly but surely the tanks advanced over the quickly laid down defences.

And right into the 180mm guns of the Champion squadron. The battle tanks were laid out in delta formation on the small landmass inbetween the two bridges, hidden behind trees and other various blockages. Using their IR and thermal imagery, the heavily outnumbered Champions used their range to open fire on the advancing Yobbite forces before they could fire back.
