Election Results Overshadowed By Corruption In Alumno
ALUMNO, YAFOR 2 - Gehada Melekarus must be kicking himself in the back of the head and not first the first time. He has made mistakes before, but those were forgivable mistakes. drinking, marijuana. But Mr. Melekarus, 34, has now committed one of those unforgivable offenses, has crossed one of those lines, has broken one of those taboos, has, at last, done something which will never be, and cannot be, pardoned.
Mr. Melekarus is a member of the YKMK, a respected statesman, and a man who, if Rudiv Sodo were not in his party, would be a clear choice for Elected Duke. He has four Master's Degrees (in four different subjects!), and part-time teaches courses at the University of Alumno. He is not that type of many anyone would expect as a vote-frauder, an embezzeler, and a cheater. But no one should judge a book by it's cover.
Two years ago, it was, that the fine people of Eastern Alumno elected him as their member of the Business Council. Little did they know of his vices. He took bribes from many leading corporations, such as Coca-Cola, and Ikata Mining, and more. He took from the tax money of the poor Yaforite citizens, he stole from the Imperial Yaforite treasury. But that was only the tip of the iceberg.
The Imperial Yaforite Police have released a statement saying that they were "unaware of the extent of Mr. Melekarus' crimes" and that they "do not condone these things. While it may be rampant throughout the entire Burisness Council, men and women who indulge in such acts will be punished accordingly." Our Elected Duke has not commented on this, though he has said before that he is "disgusted by the corruption in Yaforite politics, especially in his party".
But that is not the most worrying thing. There is not way that Mr. Melekarus could have done something like this on his own. He himself has said that "there were others. Thousands of others." Whether or not he is lieing again remians to be seen. An investigation has begun. But it may not find what it hopes for.

Police Investigation Expands
KILIMARA, EASTERN AJER, YAFOR 2 - The skies of Ajer are an azure blue as fisherman Juhanes Ikald wanders down the suntanned slopes of a hill just southeast of Kilimara, a suburb in Eastern Ajer. He is finished for the day; his catch was one of surprising size. His face is weary as he tramps his way down the hill, preparing to talk to his wife and watch the news.
But the corruption scandal, the subsequent police investigation, and th atmosphere of distrust it has created here, in Yafor 2, has hit them hard. Kilimara itself is now the center of a new investigation, a branch of the larger one in Alumno, a part of the whole. But that is not all. So far, the police have caught over 400 members of the foreign minister, 1,100 in the interior ministery and over two thousand in the business ministry.
The height of the corruption scandal is felt here, in Kilimara. It was here that the most senior member of any party (ironically, he was a Socialist, in this Socialist stonghold, the party sworn to end corruption) was Kilimara's delegate to the business council. He was Aldurin Raines, a doctor and scientist who has worked on several high-profile cases, including finding cures fo several dangerous diseases.
But the most frightening thing about the corruption scandal is felt here as well. This is, simply put, the fact that most of the men and women in the corruption scandal are highly educated and incredibly highly thought of. They are no lower class criminals, but, instead, come from high-end families, went to huge colleges, and have done great things. Where did they go wrong?
As Mr. Ikald casts his nets, the world wonders. What is wrong in Yafor 2?

Sodo Speaks Out At Last As Investigation Deepens
AJER, YAFOR 2 - For the first time, Elected Duke Rudiv Sodo has finally opened up his mind to the public. Perviously, the Yaforite head of state has been decidedly guarded about his opinion on the recent scandals in the government and legislature. While people close to him said that he privately detested men who took bribes and let down those who voted for him, it is hard not to.
This could hardly have come at a better time. The Imperial Yaforite Electoral Commission (IYEC) announced yesterday that they were having elections. But these are not just any old run-of-the-mill elections. No, the IYEC announced in an expected but yet slightly surprising news briefing that the Yaforites would be having total re-elections, every council, every ministry. It is the only way to get rid of all the cheaters.
Sodo's speech was fairly regular. He crtitcised those who deserved it, and priased the police. Now, as the police investigation enters its second week, his anger is late, but welcome nonetheless.

Ajer, Yafor 2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rudiv Sodo's face looked weary. His eyes looked tired and were reddened by what seemed to have been days without sleep. His hair was uncombed and rugged, odd for someone as concerned about appearance and formality such as him. His shirt seemed slightly dirty and haphazard; it was obvious that he had just thrown it on. But the paper which he read from was speckled with lines that could be seen through it and, it seemed, that the entire last page was crossed out. He had obviously been very liberal with his pen and his anger.
It was easy to tell why he was tired. The Generian war was in full swing, now. Over two million soldiers were already en route to Generia, with another two million in the works. Over two thirds of the Yaforite navy was deployed already and a great majority of the Air Force as well. It was the greatest military movement in Yaforite history and if events in Port Belgrade and Czardas (where the Woodstock Pact's combined forces battled those of CAD, without the Yaforites, who had promised aid) were any indication, more of the same was forthcoming.
But not only international events were keeping him awake, now. The new elections, the revamped elections, were scheduled for either today or later tomorrow, and he was, of course, running on a YKMK ticket, though he had not officially announced it yet, a matter which was already causing tongues to wag. Yaforites took such things seriously and it did not take much to make Ajerite tongues wagging. The people of the suburbs were notorious for gossip.
He stood at the podium, thinking. The police investigations were calming, now. It seemed that the storm had passed. Rudiv Sodo uncontiously adjusted his tie, not paying attention the vast amount of people who were watching him live, or the millions more who were gazing at thier televisions. When one was elected duke, one had a responsibility, both to oneself and to one's country. Rudiv Sodo took responsibility seriously. It was the price one payed for power.
He cleared his throat and the noisy crowd quieted, not gradually, but instantaneously, like a bomb had gone off. It was just another reminder of what was so evident to hims every day, every second that he breathed and walked and thought. He was the Elected Duke and what decisions he made everyday would impact millions. But he felt the weight every day, on his youthful shoulders, feeling what he knew he had to feel, the burden of so many people and their desires, their needs, and what his country needed.
"Friends, we are gathered here today -" Abruptedly he stopped. People leaned forward in their chairs, eager and frightened at the same time. In a way, their youthful Elected Duke was them, and when he stopped, they did too. Rudiv Sodo pursed his lips thoughtfull. He lifted his hand and ran a finger through his hair. Then his shook his head sadly. He had to do this.
"Look, I can't. You know there have been problems in my party, that I'm having disputes, and so forth. So that's it. I've got no time for false orotory or fancy words. I'm telling you now, I'm leaving the YKMK. For the past two months, I'v formed a new party. The PLP. Progressive Liberals. You know my stances on issues, and if this costs me the elections, so be it. It is what's right. That's all that matters." And he walked off the podium, off the eye of the world, leaving a stunned silence behind him.
