Earth II - Cymrean Military Development
The following thread is intended to show the build-up and progression of Cymrean military developments and assets over a period of time. It will be editted regularly so as to remain as current as possible. This thread will be supplemented by another outlining current Cymrean military forces.
1. Elements of the British Army's 5 Division - led by Major General Davyd Llywellyn - and all but one of the naval vessels that transported them, broke away from a group of British forces sent to secure the American northwest. These elements emerged in north and central British Columbia, laying claim to the region as sovereign territory. See: Cymrea Factbook.
2. Once Cymrea was established as a dominion of Rome, the formerly British assets were re-organized into the Cymrean Armed Forces. Naval assets are refitted and re-dedicated. For peripheral reference, see "Time and Traffic" on the E2Blog.
3. After a measure of economic stability was achieved, Cymrea purchased 10 SH-60R Seahawk ASW helicopters from the Kingdom of Cotland.
4. The population, economy, and the military budget grew; Cymrea purchased 1000 M-35 Retriever IFVs from the Kingdom of Cotland, concurrent with a Roman contract.
5. Cymrea began planning and work to establish a military university for Rome and, by extension, Cymrea. See: Project Aegis.
6. After six years of construction, Port Azuria was completed; a new and state-of-the-art naval base (Advanced Naval Port) located in the area of the capital. Port Azuria became the de facto centre of Cymrean naval operations.
7. The Cymrean Armed Forces began phasing out older assets for new ones through small international contracts, reflected in the supplemental military forces thread.
8. Cymrea purchased 84 F/A-18 Hornets from Elephantum - 48 A models, 24 B models, and 12 D models. Cymrea also purchased 12 Se-9A1 Dark Angels from United States of Brink [USB] at a discounted unit price. Both purchases amount to exactly 10% of the Cymrean defence budget for the year.
9. The Ministry of Defence establishes Ravendyne, the national military research, development and construction corporation. Within the year, Ravendyne began production of current assets that have been reverse-engineered including: Challenger Main Battle Tanks (1 and 2); Sabre, Spartan, Scimitar, Striker, Samson, Samaritan, and Sultan AFVs; F/A-18 Hornets in their A, B, and D variants; SH-60R Seahawk ASW helicopters; old-British Type 23 frigates; old-British Type 42 Batch 3 destroyers; old-British Hunt Class Minehunters; and old-British Albion Class Landing Platform Dock Ships. Cottish M-35 Retrievers were not reverse-engineered as they remained under Cymrean-respected copyright.
10. Cymrea negotiates a deal with USB that allows Cymrea to produce Se-9A1 Dark Angels with Brinkish workers in Cymrean hangars. Production begins to make the Se-9A1 Cymrea's primary land-based fighter.
11. After a period of seeming inactivity, Cymrea makes the first of a series of purchases: 2000 F-63K Tengriy (Cymrean designation: CF-63B Scimitar) naval superiority fighters from ARSB. The CF-63B is made the primary naval fighter.
12. TBA
M35 Retriever IFV (http://cotland.proboards59.com/index.cgi?board=vehicles&action=display&thread=1141768033) specs, FYI.

IC:
Elephanti Air Force Report
The Elephanti Commission on the Cymrean Air Forces has been completed, and the following types of aircraft have been recommended for sale to Cymrea, for their tactical value for both sides: (OOC: things that would help you, without compromising our status)
For Air Defence Fighters, we would recommend the following:
British Aerospace Hawk 200 (for both depends on threats to area)
Dassault Mirage 50D/FC
For Air Patrol and CAS missions, the following aircraft would be suitableL
Embraer EMB-314M Super Tucano (total should be 2-3 times amount of fighters above)
FMA IA 58 Pucara
McDonnell Douglas A-4 Skyhawk
Rockwell OV-10A Bronco
Vought A-7H Corsair II
For Transport Aircraft, the following would suit your nation well:
Alenia CN-235M (more than C-130)
Boeing C-17 Globemaster III (3 or less)
CASA C-212 Aviocar (roughly equal to CN-235)
Lockheed Martin C-130J-30 (10 or less)
For Naval Patrol Aircraft, the following would be ideal:
Beriev Be-200 Altair (5 or less)
Dassault Atlantique II (5 or less)
Lockheed S-3B Viking (5-50)
ShinMaywa US-1 (5-15)
For Reconnaisance and Electronic Surveillance purposes, these aircraft are best suited:
Boeing E-3 Sentry (probably 5 or less)
Embraer EMB-145 (5-15)
Grumman OV-1 Mohawk (5-30)
Raytheon RC-12 Guardrail (10-25)
For Mid-Air Refueling, this aircraft would work well:
Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker (not many, depends on overall size)
(Semi-IC:
Amounts are suggested next to each. Payment amounts will be calculated after an order is confirmed (I believe Rome might need a say in this) Army and Navy reports (Helis and ships respectively) will be completed by the end of the month (OOC: this weekend if all goes well) The force we have suggested is primarily defense, using light, simple aircraft, that are easy to maintain and run. A more than adequate defense net should be possible with these planes. While they are not necessarily the pinnacle of modern aerospace technology, they are some of the most dependable aircraft ever made.
OOC: I have this from my Factbook thread, so no worries about having to clear it through Rome. I just make some responsible purchases at my own discretion and make sure to keep him apprised:
I'll let you as a player buy and develop what you like, but you need to at least let me know of them.
With a current $27.6B defence budget, I feel I can freely spend 10-20% - or $2.76B to $5.52B - on acquisitions.
IC: For the Air Force, I'm interested in something less specialized, or at least something that can be easily varied for multiple roles. The F/A-18 Hornet, for instance, which was the mainstay of the Canadian air force. If you have any of those for sale, I'd be very interested.
Also, with respect, I don't see prices on the Hawk 200 or the Mirage.
In the meantime, I will be seriously considering the Elephanti offer and sincerely thank you for your efforts.
Praetor Legatus Harold Azurius Richards,
Command Marshal of the Cymrean Armed Forces.
International Military Communique
The Government of Cymrea and the Cymrean Armed Forces are now accepting contract offers for military aircraft. The primary interest of the air force is the acquisition of multi-role fighters, preferably an aircraft similar to, if not precisely, the F/A-18 Hornet.
The fighter contract will require certain modifications to be made to meet the unique needs of Cymrean air defences, which is why an aircraft like the Hornet is the primary focus of Cymrean interest.
The contract will not be large to begin, but there will be an ongoing need for an ever-expanding nation. The only caveat is that the first opportunity for a contract will be offered to Elephantum, as they were the first to make overtures. Once a contract has been confirmed or rejected, the offers will be accepted on a first contacted-first considered basis.

Statement from Tyrandis Precision Machine Import/Export Corporation
Dear Sir(s):
Our humble defense company would like to enter our TAF-622 "Sparrow" Multi-Role Fighter as a competitor for the Cymrean contract. Although it may be a tad expensive, you have my personal guarantees that the extra cost is worth every penny. Sparrow is in every way superior to Hornet, in terms of survivability, payload, range, and maintainability.
Should the distinguished Cymrean Armed Forces wish to acquire TAF-622 examples for evaluation purposes, do not hesitate to ask. We are confident the performance of these warplanes will more than satisfy Cymrean defense requirements.
Further information on the TAF-622 may be found here: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10314719&postcount=1

RE: Se-9A1 Dark Angel
The Cymrean Ministry of Defence would like to negotiate on the price of the aircraft in question. Our budget is less than that of most nations, but we are indeed interested in your offer.
We propose a per unit price of $72.5 million, which would permit Cymrea to offer a contract to Brink for a full squadron of 12 Se-91A1s. I look forward to your reply.

RE: Contract offer
I write to inform you that at the current time Cymrea has satisfied her air force needs. I would like to extend my gratitude to Tyrandis for its interest in Cymrea's air defence and wish to assure you that there will be future contracts.
The lack of a contract offer to Tyrandis now is in no way a reflection upon your distinguished nation, nor its generous offer. Indeed, it is merely that the cost of such an advanced aircraft as the TAF-622 Sparrow is for the moment beyond the Cymrean budget and I can only offer my apologies.
When the time comes that Cymrea seeks military assets again, Tyrandis will be among the first to be considered. I personally look forward to that time.

After reviewing your offer we find the terms to be acceptable. We are highly interested in seeing how these aircraft perform. Construction has already begun on these aircraft. Once the money transfer is complete you will receive 6 fighters and the other 6 when they are completed.
I am grateful for your business, which can hopefully continue as our nations progress.
Huahin: There's no mention of you in the first post, because I haven't purchased anything from you for my military, and that's pretty much what the first post is about: a progressive documentation of the build-up of Cymrea's military. And you are more than welcome to bid for contracts next time Cymrea seeks assets. I didn't exclude anyone, I just responded to those who posted here.
I will be posting on the main thread when Cymrea is offering contracts, and then interested parties can bid for them here.
