Operation: BLAZING THUNDER [EII]

Tyrandis

"Innumerable force of Spirits armed,
That durst dislike his reign, and, me preferring,
His utmost power with adverse power opposed
In dubious battle on the plains of Heaven,
And shook his throne. What though the field be lost?
All is not lost—the unconquerable will,
And study of revenge, immortal hate,
And courage never to submit or yield:
And what is else not to be overcome.
That glory never shall his wrath or might
Extort from me."

[Shattered Peace]

0630 hrs LIMA
International Waters, 400 km from Melville Island

The enormous array of warships in the troubled waters near Australia had taken months to arrive, and that was under full mobilization. Fortunately, they were all massed without complications, though the lost time could not be recovered.

Since cooler heads prevailed in the Bjornoya incident, the Militaristic Federation's fleets were directed to a new target: the country of Huahin. There was really no surprise, considering that the "Great House" had been one of the cacophony of voices raised against the surging industrial and military might of Tyrandis in the world, and a somewhat vehement one at that. Where more rational nations simply gnashed their teeth and seethed privately, the blundering idiots in charge of Huahin chose to publicly oppose the iron resolve of the Tyrandisan leadership. Most countries would simply take the rhetoric hurled by Huahin and dismiss it; Tyrandis, however, was ruled by a psychotic junta. Autocrat Hamazaki, ruler of the country, decided that Huahin would be punished for their insolent remarks, in the worst possible way: extermination. The Great House of five billion would serve as an example for all those who would dare resist the Federation's will.

Three national flags waved in the gentle breeze, a black eagle of Tyrandis at the fore, supported by the standards of innumerable Spizanian and Ninjan vessels. They had remained well within the bounds of international waters, and as such were not harrassed by any sane nation. Even so, paranoid naval officers still maintained a massive anti submarine warfare and AWACS perimeter around the amalgated leviathan. And their fear of being assaulted was quite understandable; over three thousand different ships of war comprised the Tyrandisan deployment alone. Coupled with the support of her comrades, the joint task force was easily the largest the world ever saw. Assembled ostensibily to conduct naval exercises, her true, and horrifying purpose would be revealed as the tropical sun awakened slowly from its slumber.

The first phase of what was called BLAZING THUNDER, was simple: a clean, fast strike on whatever orbital assets the Huahinians had. Considering that their space program was primitive in the extreme, the Tyrandisan Space Forces Command was absolutely confident in its ability to totally annihilate whatever they needed to. Every single Huahinian satellite had been targeted for some weeks prior to the offensive; they would now be shut down. To accomplish this goal, Tyrandis employed a weapon known as Kamikaze - a suicide laser platform that would self-destruct at the end of its cycle. Simple, cheap, and easy to produce, the Kamikazes were orbiting atomic bombs, surrounded by glass rods. In unison, at 6:30 local time, each and every hostile satellite was targeted by two of the devices. When the relatively clean bombs exploded, the rods were bombarded with highly-energetic gamma-ray photons, causing spontaneous and stimulated emission of X-ray photons in the atoms making up the rods. This would lead to optical amplification of the X-ray photons, producing an enormously powerful laser beam minimally affected by atmospheric distortion. The targeted devices just had no chance to get out of the way.

As soon as the attack on the Huahinian satellite network was confirmed, the Tyrandisans deployed waves of UAV drones from the Pilium-class SSBNs, fitted with Luneberg lenses that expanded their RCS to cruise missile proportions. Aviators in the task force took off from the decks of the Yorktown-class CVN and Tribes-class CVANs, their choice of plane being TEF-622 electronic warfare aircraft. Fitted with a highly modified derivative of the ATSAN-3/8 Anti-Shipping Missile, the Sparrow's strike mission was to destroy whatever air defenses existed on Melville, giving Spizanian forces a hole to exploit. The forty eight TEF-622s were launched so that hostile air defenses would engage the expendable UAVs first, with a margin of around one and a half hours. Fifty two TSF-620B Xeon Air Superiority Fighters were already in the clouds at 60,000 feet, their mission to provide escort for the Sparrows, and engage any aircraft that rose up to intercept. Meanwhile, the deployment message was relayed to the other components of the allied naval force, and their roles in the grand plan for the conquest of Melville island would begin quite soon. The tactical mission was simple: To leave the target utterly destroyed.

Huahin would pay for their insignificant crime against the Tyrandisan nation in spades. The shining crimson hues of the rising sun served as a portent for the rivers of bloodshed that would begin. The drums of war had once again eclipsed the siren song of tranquil peace...

The large fleet was detected by Cottish satellites relatively easily, and quickly identified as Tyrandian. The three thousand plus ships detected would pose a massive headache if the Cots had still been in Australia, but that wasn't the case. Fortunately, some would say, although the Cots had thought out some ideas as to how they could even the odds a little. However, those ideas had been left untouched and remained secret, dusting away in a encrypted folder on secret harddrives in a few computer servers in secured, classified locations. Only one of many secret operation-plans developed over the years. The Cots weren't really present in Australia any more though, so they would leave the Tyrandians alone. They would watch the situation, but still leave the Tyrandians alone.

OOC - Apart from satellites, what is he attacking. And plus, I only have one satellite...dumbass.

IC
Stratospheric Airship AEW platforms immediatly picked up the approaching missile launches. They appeared to be all locked on to one satellite, the only one Huahin had. This satellite had only just been launched and had only a limited capability, so it would be no real loss if it got destroyed, as many stratellites were already in place and serving their purpose well.

However this was an act of war. Back in Huahin, the Prime Minister Trevor Cherry was immediatly briefed on the events as they unfolded. As the explosion of the satellite was detected, the Official Declaration of War was broadcast to the whole world, this would be a World War, one which they had been waiting for for a long time. Huahinian forces in the area were limited, but more were on their way all the time. Massive Pelican WiG craft flew 17 MBTs in at a time, whilst long range bombers and fighters were in constant patrol. Trident MkIII SLBMs were fitted to all suitable submarines, and the ALCM StormShadow was fitted to the bombers. Massive destruction was ensured. The massive B-3 Icarus bombers were already inflight, with their 20,000 mile range without refueling, whilst their escort fighters were armed with the latest BVRAAM which provideds a no-escape distance of over 200km. Huge airborne airplane carriers lifted off from Huahinian bases to take position in Australia, whilst the Unity class Carriers set sail in the Pacific.

Meanwhile, nuclear silos back in Huahin were ready to launch. The target had already been set. A top secret IC was sent to Cotland.

We are about to launch a small scale nuclear attack on Baker Island. Fallout will be extremely low, but we ask you, and for you to advise any other ships in the area, to leave immediatly. We will not launch any attack until you report the withdrawal of your ships.

Meanwhile, another message was broadcast by the Prime Minister:
Dear citizens of Huahin, and of the world, we sadly inform you that today one of our satellites was destroyed in an unprovoked attack by Tyrandis. We consider this an act of war, and as of today, our nation is in a state of war with Tyrandis. We call upon our Pacifinesian allies to help defend us against this threat, as well as any other nations who hold the integrity of the world with high regard.

OOC: Launching nukes is a big no-no in my book. It totally ruins the RP and will most likely end with a massive exchange of ICBMs which will totally destroy E2. I won't move my ships, as there is still a Cottish destroyer needing to be hauled out of there, and my CVBG which is to haul it out hasn't arrived yet. I will fire upon any non-allied military aircraft which comes within 300 nautical miles of my ships. Any nukes detonate near my ships, and I will ICly consider it an attack on Cotland and respond accordingly.

The communique was recieved and immediately marked as a priority one red, which means that it has to be in the hands of the Prime Minister within fifteen minutes. It was within nine, and an additional two minutes later, all Cottish forces went to BERSTAT-2. War seemed imminent, but could still be avioded. A message also went out to the CVBG at Baker Island to send up BARCAPs with orders to remove any incoming military aircraft headed for Baker Island, using lethal force if necessary. An answer was also drafted.

Encrypted reply to Huahin
"We will not move our vessels, nor will we allow for a nuclear weapon to be released upon Baker Island. Any attempt to do so will result in the vehicle carrying the weapon, it be a submarine, aircraft or missile will be intercepted and destroyed. If any nuclear detonation hits Cottish vessels or aircraft, we will retaliate in an appropriate manner."

EDIT:

As per the provisions of Plan BLAZING THUNDER the bomber groups of the third airforce, a total of 216 SuB-1C Bombers took off and headed for the launch points 1500km north of Melville Island, the bombers carried a large range of ALBMs and ICCMs carrying different kinds of conventional ordanance, escorts would be launched from the fleet off Australia to meet up with them when they launched their weapons. Together with Tyrandis they would turn Melville into a giant bonfire

“What the hell?!” cried Minister of Communications, Cathy Skyler, as her secretary handed her a communiqué, “what do those crazy Huahinian bastards think they’re doing?! Deliver this to the Emperor at once! Never mind, I’ll deliver it myself!

Skyler practically flew down the seven flights of stairs and rushed down the hall, knocking a hefty stack of papers out of the hands of a passing secretary.

“I need to see the Emperor! It’s urgent!” cried the minister to the Palace Guards in front of the huge double doors of the throne room.

“Identification, please,” said one of the guards in a neutral monotone. Skyler quickly shoved her Minister of Communications badge and identification card into the guard’s hands.

“Alright, you are admitted,” said the guard. Skyler tapped her foot impatiently as the giant doors slowly.

Emperor Manuel III was pacing in front of his elaborate throne. How a sovereign can possibly spend all his time in a fancy chair, thought the Emperor, No wonder everyone hates monarchies.

The Emperor stopped pacing as the minister entered the throne room. “You seem stressed, Minister Skyler,” said the Emperor. “Is something wrong?”

“Yes, indeed my lord,” said a breathless Skyler, “Just read this.” The Minister of Communications handed the document over to the Emperor.

Manuel frowned as he read the paper. What were the Huahinians thinking? “This can’t be right. I’ve known the Huahinians to be illogical at times, but nowhere near on this scale. Are you sure this is valid?”

“Yes my lord, we are certain of it,” replied Skyler.

“Hmm,” said Manuel, “It just doesn’t add up.”

Just then, the doors slid forth once more to admit Skyler’s secretary. “I have another message for you my lord,” she said in a panicky voice.

Manuel sighed and took the document from the secretary’s hands. It was another message from the Huahinians. It was announcing an unprovoked Tyrandi attack on a Huahinian communications satellite, and calling for aid from the Pacifinesia alliance.

“My thanks to both of you,” said the Emperor, “Now, you are dismissed.” The two women quickly walked out of the room.

Manuel turned towards one of his messengers. “I want you to inform the members of the War Council to meet at Location 6-2-A.

“Yes my lord! Of course my lord! It will be done my lord!” said the servant, almost tripping over himself to perform his emperor’s bidding. Manuel rolled his eyes. This ‘my lord’ thing was really getting annoying.

The Emperor, escorted by a cadre of Palace Guards, went to the palace’s garage and selected a particularly sexy vehicle and got into the driver’s seat. It had come as a general shock and had brought dismay to his security and private limousine drivers that Manuel preferred to do his own driving.

The vehicle had won maximum ratings in all government safety tests. It was armoured against small arms fire, grenades, and land mines, and had bullet-proof windows. It also included a computer-controlled minigun, land mine detection equipment, concealed weapons compartments, and an assortment of other features that in all likelihood would never be needed.

Manuel pulled up in front of a camouflaged steel door. This was the entrance to Location 6-2-A, the secret meeting place and haven of past Emperors. The complex was buried more than sixty feet under a mountain of solid lava rock, and was equipped with the latest security devices. The entrance was protected by about a hundred Black Commandoes, the elites of the Army. Their commander led them in kneeling before the Emperor, and the doors opened to admit the Emperor of Kreynoria.

The Emperor took an elevator down to the conference room, and found Grand General George Bryennius already waiting for him. Bryennius had been one of the founders of the Kreynorian independence movement, which had won Kreynorian independence from Layarteb. He had been one of the first Imperial Guards, and later became a highly decorated military commander. He had been a natural choice for the new appointment of Grand General.

The Grand General knelt before the Emperor and shook his hand. The two silently stood and waited for the other members of the War Council. It wasn’t long before the others showed up.

Grand Marshal John Caudell, Minister of Defense James Fletcher, Grand Admiral Valerie Jamison, Minister of Security Liulicanus Rauthu, Minister of Intelligence Jane Barrar, and Chancellor of the Senate Robert Bell. All of them knelt before the Emperor and shook his hand. When this was finished, they took their seats around the round table in the center of the room. The doors opened to admit eight Wraith Knights responsible for the protection of the War Council. The Wraith Knights were a top secret super-soldier project. Only thirty Wraith Knights actually existed out of an original pool of eight hundred. The rest had died from the genetic experimentation, cybernetic implants, or live-fire exercises.

“Greeting, ladies and gentlemen of the War Council,” said Emperor Manuel III, “I trust you know that I have summoned you for a very important reason.”

There were nods all around. “Does anyone know of the situation regarding Huahin and Tyrandis?” asked the Emperor.

Jane Barrar, the Minister of Intelligence, stood at once. “If I may, my lord. The situation between those two nations is becoming more volatile by the minute,” said the minister.

“At precisely 6:30, our SIGINT detected several massive discharges of energy, which were aimed at Huahin’s communication satellite. The satellite has been confirmed as destroyed. The nation of Tyrandis was determined to be the aggressor. In response, Huahin plans to launch a nuclear attack upon Baker Island. This move is curious, since Baker Island is not an asset of Tyrandis but of Spizania. Huahin is aware that the attack was from Tyrandis. Spizania was an ally of the ex-Russian Federation, which in turn was an ally of Tyrandis. Furthermore, it is known that Tyrandis and Spizania are staging a massive naval exercise off of Australia, involving more than 3,000 ships. It is obvious that the “exercises” were in fact a sham, and the fleet is actually an invasion force, with Pacifinesia in its crosshairs. More disturbing are aircraft movements from both the Tyrandi-Spizanian fleet and Spizanian installations on Baker Island. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that a Ninjan war fleet is leaving its home port. Although this move seems innocuous, it must be remembered that Teh Ninjas was an ally of Tyrandis during the standoff with Bjornoya and The October Alliance.”

No one spoke for a few moments. “So, what is our plan of action?” asked the Emperor.

“No matter who is behind the attack, it is clear that this is an emergency is developing, and the War Council must take control of the affairs of state,” said Liulicanus Rauthu, Minister of Security.

“I can propose a motion in the Senate,” said Chancellor Bell, “It will probably be passed.”

“I personally agree,” said Manuel, “But I want to hear your opinions on this matter.”

Marshall Caudell opened his mouth as if to argue, and then shut it. Admiral Jamison and Defense Minister Fletcher exchanged semi-worried looks.

“If there is no dispute, then Chancellor Bell shall present a preposition of granting emergency power to the War Council,” said Emperor Manuel with an air of finality.

A couple hours later, the Emperor was in his personal study, and had finished drafting a communiqué to Huahin. The message was sent under a 1024-bit encryption

To: The Great House of Huahin
From: The Divine Empire of Kreynoria

Do not launch a nuclear attack at this stage of the war. It is vital that the war remains conventional in nature and that we attempt to gain international support for our cause. Do not employ weapons of mass destruction at this stage. Kreynoria has no vessels in the vicinity of Baker Island, but again, do not use nuclear weapons. We shall be prepared to support you. May victory echo through the halls of the Pacifinesia United Alliance!

The proposal was passed in the Senate by a margin of 76-24. The War Council would hold dictatorial powers for the duration of the crisis. In the meantime, military readiness was being increased across the Empire, and there was a call for volunteers for enlistment as well as the begininning of a massive propoganda campaign, involving messages ranging from 'Fight for freedom and the Kreynorian way' to 'save the children from the butcher's cleaver.' Kenya, in particular, was a hotbed of military activity, and million of citizens there were working on constructing defenses, evacuating noncombatants, and performing militia duty.

Massive Rockets took off from silos in Huahin's northern lands. The Fractional Orbital Bombardment System was to be launched. This would enable Huahin to launch a nuclear weapon at anywhere on Earth in an instant, or alternatively launch a Cruise Missile with conventional explosives, or even chemical warheads.

Deep inside the SAAMDS HQ bunker, somewhere in the Commonwealth, the Modules were repositioning their respective satellites to achieve wider firing arcs. Movement of ICBM missile systems had been detected in various places in Huahin. The launch of an ICBM against Tyrandis was, in the eyes of the Government, unacceptable given the proximity of major Tyrandian cities to Hirgizstanian ones.

Tensions again mounted when pre-launch detection equipment inside the Command Center began to blink. Operators scrambled to determine possible trajectories and weapons loads.

As the operations center began to gather data, it was determined the pre-launch warning was triggered by Huahinian Forces. Immediately a Hawdawg Intellegence Data Sheet (HIDS) was pulled on Huahanian nuclear/biological capabilities. The situation didn't look good, HIDS clearly showed this government had all the capabilities to launch nuclear or biological payloads at ranges that were alarming.

A decision was made, launches at Tyrandis targets close to Hawdawg held Karelia Republic and Leningrad Oblast would be actively engaged by the NTG provided Aristotle III SDI Missile Defense System. Time was of the essence. Several nations as well as Huahin would have to be advised of the Hawdawg response.

As the Aristotle was repositioned to engage possible inbound ICBM's, the government sent out a blanket message.

Open letter to Huahinian Government

We have detected an increase of pre-ICBM launch activity deep within your territory, which we have summized is directed at Tyrandi targets. We have territories close to this government and simply cannot risk the possible fallout or contamination of our citizens. We have made a decision to position our Aristotle III SDI system in an orbital position to actively engage any inbound ICBM's launched on Tyrandi Russian holdings. We have no plans to enter this conflict, but will move to eliminate any ICBM's from being used by either side in this conflict. We have detected some alarming information concerning the potential launch of ICBM's on hard targets within Tyrandis. While we don't want to choose sides in this conflict, we will not allow this conflict to turn nuclear in nature. We plan to actively engage an inbound ICBM's from Huahinian territory on any of your Russian holdings. Be advised we will have an attached file with our satellite trajectories listed. IC: Kreynorian citizens in Kenya had been working frantically to prepare defenses against possible invasion. Militia training was now being conducted on a daily rather than weekly basis, and much of the population was being moved towards the southern border with friendly Bjornoya; this group included the young, elderly, sick, injured, disabled, and pregnant. The rest of the population, both male and female, was preparing for battle. Regular air raid drills were being practiced, ditches were dug alongside buildings protection from bombs, and anti-air crews were active 24/7.

Hundreds of miles of trenches and antitank ditches had been dug around Nairobi. 3,000 Sentinel SAM turrets were prepared to stop any missile or air attack. The perimeter of the city was surrounded by electrified quad-bar fencing and barbed wire.

Nearly 50 million ATG-44 anti-tank mines had been layed along the northern, eastern, and western borders and around Nairobi. Kenya was also surrounded by massive, reinforced concrete walls as part of the National Defense Network. These walls were bristling with heavy artillery, mortars, flak cannons, and machine guns. Patrol on the walls had been doubled.

Alongside the coast, defenses had also been vastly improved. Bunkers had been hastily constructed out of earth, stone, and concrete and equipped with heavy anti-tank guns, versatile medium-sized guns, deadly flamethrowers, and machine guns. The beaches were protected by wire and mines, and the water was filled with sea mines, drift nets, and obstacles.

Molotov cocktails, gas bombs, and other improvised explosives were being made and distributed on a massive scale. Ordinary citizens were also being equipped with obscolescent weaponry, including bolt-action rifles, submachine guns, anti-tank rifles, and RPGs. Ordinary cars and trucks were being equipped with bulletproof armor and mounted machine guns. Others carried 37mm anti-aircraft guns to serve as makeshift AA platforms. All around, the Kreynorians were setting up for a long defense.

Tanzanian Border (http://0401.netclime.net/1_5/7/F/I/76%20-%20Protecting%20My%20D.mp3)

Border Patrols were now at full capacity as the cleansing of Bjornoyan Africa had been completed for nearly a month. It was imperative for the mission to be successful that no new infected individuals be allowed to cross the Bjornoyan borders. However, the drastic decrease in the population growth rate due to the nature of the mission also made Bjornoyan Africa in need of more healthy individuals and hopefully citizens as well.

The Patriarchal Federation of Bjornoya would react to the presence of refugees near its borders in the same fashion that it was currently holding in relation to the her faltering neighbor of Teh Ninjas:

Message from the Patriarchal Federation of Bjornoya to the Divine Empire of Kreynoria:

We are fully aware of the unfortunate conflict that will soon involve the Pacifensia Alliance and the Militant Federation of Tyrandis along with its allies. The Patriarchal Federation will do all it can to save lives during this conflict. Should any Kreynorian citizens residing in Kenya wish to take refuge in Bjornoyan Africa for the duration of the conflict they may do so provided they have proof of cleanliness. If they do not have a proof of cleanliness Bjornoyan Federal Peacekeepers can provide any refugees with a simple test to earn it. Women and children are especially urged to not needlessly get dragged into this conflict. Visara Co. has graciously donated much needed supplies to aid many refugees coming from all corners of war-torn Africa and the citizens most in need shall be offered such necessities.

Response from the Kreynorian Government

We thank you for the compassion your nation has shown. Our authorities are now attempting to evacuate as many noncombatants as possible to your refugee camps. We can assure you that all of our citizens have been inoculated against a variety of diseases, and AIDS-infected individuals have been isolated and identified from the rest of the population. We must warn you, however, that many of these refugees have special conditions, including age, disabilities, pregnancy, injuries, and/or illness.

[The Opening Act]

The buzzing swarm of Tyrandisan military aircraft, held in a holding pattern while the home command prepped its field representatives via secure satellite communications, were finally released from their chains. The words "XQT SPEC OP" flashed across several hundred OLED screens simultaeneously in bright, cheery green letters. With the arrival of Huahinian air defense fighters, it was evident that a bloodbath would mark the beginning of the war. On cue, the Tyrandisan Xeons held aloft at their perches set their target acquisition RADARs on a mode known as "Distributed Burn-through", one of the unique technologies that marked the Imperial Air Force's lavish funding. Intelligence had indicated the Huahinians used plasma active stealth technology, as Tyrandis once had before scrapping such systems as needlessly complex and ineffectual. Prior to doing this, however, the country had developed a very, very easy way of detecting other aircraft using those measures.

The ten Squadrons of five TSF-620Bs each activated their AN/PSI-6 RADAR systems in a synchronized fashion, each squadron hopping transmission and reception duties in turn. Plasma stealth worked by bouncing RF signals in different directions, away from the source of transmission - this phenomenon served to identify their locations to the Tyrandisan pilots. The rapidly scattering waves did, as expected, fly off into all manner of directions, but the signal bounced into the receiver modules mounted in a different Squadron. Triangulation of this bounce-back signal, completed in short order thanks to the incredibly advanced processing power of the Xeon's asynchronous circuit technology, gave the aviators the exact location of their prey. Best of all, the shield of ionized gas around the Huahinian fighters made them glow bright on infrared scopes, and also prevented them from detecting the Tyrandisan distributed RF signal. The Huahinians were running straight into a trap - nothing could save them. At two hundred and seventy five kilometers, the maximum effective range of Tyrandisan ATAIM-5 BVRAAMs (OOC: The Macabees-built AAM.176), each TSF-620 lobbed one pair of the missiles at their targets, inertially guided with occasional mid-course updates. They rocketed towards their victims at incredible speeds.

Meanwhile, the TEF-622 attack force was burning towards Victoria just over sea level, keeping their IR signature low by reradiating heat into the atmosphere. As soon as they entered detection range by Huahinian receptor sites on Victoria, the Sparrows flipped on their jammer pods to full power, their pilots hoping against all odds they would lend enough time for their mission to succeed. SATINT by the Tyrandis National Intelligence Agency had indicated the location of every suspected RADAR and SAM site on the island in the previous weeks - this data was uploaded to the fighter groups from the menacing Tyrandisan fleet. When the RHAW managed to sustain a lock on RF emissions from the Huahinian search network, the Sparrows unleashed their payload of two ATSAN missiles per RADAR site. The easy part of the job was complete, but now the TEF-622s would have to hunt for the illumination RADARs. Each ATSAN, developed by MP Ordnance Corp., had a warhead of 8,000 depleted uranium fragments, guaranteeing that even a near miss would shred the delicate waveguides and antennas of Huahinian RADAR. Even if the Huahinians tried to turn them off before it was too late, GPS uplink ensured that the tactic would fail.

The main Tyrandisan naval task force continued to advance, crimson banners swept up in the tropical wind. Several hundred more Tyrandisan aviators were sent up to maintain a massive BARCAP, consisting of over two hundred TSF-620B Xeons and fifty TEF-622 Sparrow electronic warfare derivatives.

The Kreynorian response to this act of aggression was to be swift. The Sparrow squadrons of Tyrandis would find themselves pitted against a massive fleet of MTA-U01 Vector fighters.

The Vector was a custom design with many unique features. It was a VTOL aircraft, it was a UAV, and it was very stealthy, thanks to its small size, RAM, shape, and Archangel system. It was cheap and expendable and would not put the life of a pilot on the line. The Vectors could be either manually controlled by a distant remote or by its own integrated AI. The AI engine was very advanced, and was programmed to analyze the combat manuevers of an enemy and respond in kind.

The Vectors were each armed with four MTM-10 Swift LRAAMs, and were equipped with a variety of defensive systems. A total of 1,200 Vectors took off from bases in New Caledonia and the Solomon Islands, making a bearing straight for the Tyrandian air fleet.

At the same time, underground missile silos opened up in the Solomons and on New Caledonia, revealing the Empire's MTM-12 Revenge long-range cruise missiles. The missiles had a maximum range of over 2,500 kilometers and could speed through the sky at Mach 3. The missiles would fly low to the ocean surface until they came within 50 kilometers, they would fly way up into the air, and come crashing down on the Tyrandian ships at speeds approaching Mach 5. The warheads would explode only after the kinetic impact damaged the vessel.

16,000 missiles were fired, 11000 with conventional warheads and 5000 with EMP warheads. Only 1000 were aimed at the capital ships of the Tyrandian fleet, and the rest at the escorts of the fleet.

Meanwhile, another piece of advanced weaponry was to be deployed in the form of a MicroSatellite. The MicroSatellites were launched from bases in the Solomons. The satellites themselves only had enough fuel for 24 hours (about 30 orbits), but each contained two devastating tungsten needles.

The needles were 4 meters long and had a hardened iron core. They were designed not to burn up in the atmosphere, and could attain speeds of up to Mach 9. The kinetic impact alone would penetrate up to 150 feet of concrete and the pressure waves would fissure concrete out to a distance of 1200 feet. The weapons had first been tested on the city of New Sparta in Sparta Dominion. The result was total devastation. It was these weapons that would spear the battleships and carriers of the Tyrandians, sending their shattered hulls to the bottom of the ocean.

20 satellites were launched. These satellites were extremely fast and would make a quick passover over the Tyrandian fleet and launch their ordinance, hopefully before any ASAT systems could come into play.

This three-pronged attack would neutralize or at least slow down the Tyrandian assault, buying the Huahinians some time to prepare for the invasion.

That was a mistake. When I was reading the tech page with the missile on it, I accidentaly read the next missile down on the list, which had a much shorter range. It actually follows a normal trajectory.

As for ortillery, railguns aren't allowed, but ortillery has been used. Usually, its in the form of geosynchrous satellites. In any case, virtually everyone RPs having anti-satellite weapons. The tech rules must have changed at some point in your abscence.

If this was the question in the E2 thread. It seems entirely possible for MT. All it is is a Tungsten needle that, well wait, doesn't Tungsten deform at high temperatures? Wouldn't re-entry do that to it? Either way, if it would work though it's not like a railgun or anything, just really a KE projectile. That's far cheaper and simpler than a orbital missile satellite, which is MT.

Tungsten is the densest and strongest metal on earth. Anyway, its melting point is: 3410.0 °C (3683.15 K, 6170.0 °F), and its boiling point is: 5660.0 °C (5933.15 K, 10220.0 °F). It can withstand a DU Penetrator fired from an enemy tank and has a good resistance against ETC weaponry, but as for space re-entry I'm not sure, perhaps those numbers can help.

Tungsten has to be re-engineered by man to bring out its best qualities, same as most metals really. On its own it is the strongest, it isn't brittle. They use it in for the filaments in household bulbs, it has to be incredibly strong for that purpose.
Depleted Uranium is a sort of man-made metal, it doesn't occur naturally, Tungsten does. And as far as I know Tungsten, in some forms, is more dense than DU. I use it in a 'honeycomb' weave in tank armor and it can literally stop DU penetrators in their tracks, its all relative though, depends on a number of factors, but it can stop them. I also use it on security gates and border gates etc, so that basically nothing can get through it. The gates have to be able to withstand the collision from an MBT sized object of 60+ tons travelling at 40mph.

I think I remember the US Army doing tests on Tungsten blocks once. Some of the video survived where the frame of an F-4 shoots down a rail at full speed and just disintegrates on the tungsten block, and it basically isn't even dented. It might have been something else, but it seemed like a metal test to me, could have been DU though.

South of Tyrandis Held Cape York Peninsula

Cigerette smoke swirled around Rikujo Bakuryocho(General) Adda Hiromu's head as he blew out a ghostly snake from his mouth. The tip of his cigerette glew orange and hot, contrast to the dark night around him. The Australian moon hung sully in the sky, half shrouded in shadow, almost saddened, knowing bloodshed could soon encase the land below her. The evacuation proceedings were ordered for night, not that Hiromu nor The High Commander (Military Rank of Terronian Grand Duchy Dimitri Tabolov) felt that Tyrandis would actually attack its citizins if found they where fleeing, it was just dubbed less conspicious of possible action if hidden by night, plus, people were often more docile and willing to leave when aroused from slumber and tired.
His hand shook, a genius commander but also an old commander, having seen many wars, from the long now forgotten Iro-Terronian Wars, even up to the Wars with Azimeth and her allies, which ironically were now his allies. During that war, his section of the Tango Line was the only section that was not crossed, many commanders after the war had congradulated and apllauded his bravery and leadership in battle, but now he was planning an attack, not defending a crumbling line of wall and turrets. The plan was for a quick strike on the Tyrandis held peninsula, made clear as his Squire pointed out the small various plane pieces that layed sprawled on the tactical map before him. An airforce uniform clad officer stood before him explaining the T.A.D.F(Terronian Air Defense Force) battle plan and how he should position his troops for the coming battle. He listened but half listened in his mind, working out the logistics and commands he would need to win the battle and the peninsula.

The plan called for a quick and decisive air attack from Aega Air Force Base to dismantle the air defense in the area while it was on the ground, this was planned for the next night, quickly followed by a quick march upward by Hiromu's famed 3rd Army which also holds the 42nd Mechanized Division, the second most prestigious Division of the Terronian Army under the 1st Infantry Division of the Southern Ground Command. He was also granted 1 Division of Terronian Royal Marines for the offensive, rare, but not unheard of as the Terronian Goverment preaches that Terronians work in groups rather then by themselves. Another great feature was that they had been granted one of the four availible "Sky Eyes" for the mission.

*A sky eye is a special laser weapon 30ft by 30ft used to track and destroy aircraft and missiles. Its power output measure 1 megawatt, it uses a chemical oxygen iodine laser(COIL), it can lock and stay fixed onto an aircraft or missile and fire the main laser all in .2 of a second.*

The Air Force captain ended his presentation inclidng for Hiromu to speak. He tapped his cigerette, laughed and cracked a joke.

I hope this works, I know Dimitri, we f*ck up, and he will make us commit Seppuku with *butter knifes*.

*Seppuku is commited with a sharp Katana, a blunter weapon means more cutting and pain, this was a joke meaning that Dimitri would find the worst weapon possible for the deed.*

The War at Sea

It was not unexpected that the Kreynorian high command would intervene in Tyrandis's operations against Huahin. Considering that they were allied through the Pacifnesia bloc, their sudden entry into the conflict was anticipated long before by the war planners. What was surprising, however, was the sheer stupidity of their latest move.

Considering that New Caledonia and the Solomons were several thousand kilometers away from the theater of combat, their UAV movements, noted by "Teal Ruby" orbital IR scanners operating in low orbit, would not arrive to affect the outcome of the battle over Melville until long after the Tyrandisan Sparrows were finished with their assault. By this time, secure datalinks to the Tyrandis Imperial Air Force assets in-sector had alerted the Xeon escort squadrons to the presence of the Kreynorian aircraft - they would be monitored until they entered engagement range, as it was known that the Xeon's armaments had superior range and its electronics could easily burn through the rudimentary "stealth" the unknown aircraft carried with them.

What drove local commanders to alarm, and then confusion, however, was the news of a massive inbound ballistic launch. The exhaust from the thousands of launches created a beacon for the satellites to observe. The Tyrandisans were completely incredulous as to why the Kreynorians would waste so many expensive long-range missiles against the AEGIS shield of their fleet. After all, the system was originally developed to handle Russian tactics of "missile spam" during the Cold War, and the vastly improved technical components in the Tyrandisan version of AEGIS would deal with the Kreynorian attack easily. The AWACS birds called out the bearings of the oncoming wave of munitions some six hundred kilometers away from the fleet, identified them as MTM-12 Revenge missiles after cross-checking the RCS of the targets, and uploaded this information to the fleet at large. As the missiles were cruising at a very high altitude, the enormous SPY track RADARs mounted on almost every Tyrandisan ship had no trouble illuminating the MTM-12s for their countermeasures. Coordination of defense efforts was led by a distributed computer algorithm that drew on the processing power of every ship in the fleet, marking a set of targets for each vessel to destroy with their Surface to Air Missiles, once they entered 550 kilometer range. The SAMs in question were Macabee-designed P.746.A dual-stage rockets, each of which were fitted with a seventy kilogram CAPMES warhead, intended for maximum area of effect. As calls of "Vampires inbound" echoed through the fleet, each MTM-12 was targeted on a 1.5:1 basis, with three missiles lofted for every two that were tracked. The "Praetorians", as they were known coloquially, rocketed towards their intended targets under inertial guidance for the first phase of flight. Once active guidance came on, in the form of millimetric wave RADAR coupled with a IR LIDAR array, a second RAMjet stage ignited, propelling the P.746s into their victims at a speed of Mach 3.7.

Due to the hideously basic flight path the Kreynorian missiles took, as well as the advantages Tyrandis had in its armaments and surveillance techniques, barely seven hundred and fifty MTM-12s managed to punch through the curtain of SAM coverage afforded by AEGIS. Of these, slightly less than half hit their targets, due to the timely release of countermeasures and Phalanx CIWS mounts equipped with twenty millimeter depleted uranium shells. Unfortunately for the Tyrandisans, however, twenty eight of the escapees were marked on a single Arizona-class BBGN. The resulting blasts shattered the hulking battleship, killing three quarters of the crew and forcing the rest to abandon ship. Another three escort vessels were lost outright, and eight other ships in the fleet damaged in varying degrees.

The Tyrandisans would never forgive this transgression - a declaration of war was duly issued in the aftermath of the attack.

1/2* 10901.985 kg (mass of rod according to their size and wiki density)
*10972.8 m/s^2 (36,000 ft/second) = .66 TJ (less than 1% of energy from an atomic blast)

The problem with that is that it assumes you begin at the acceleration of 0, which you certainly don't.]

OOC: (9.8 * weight of the rod) I believe is the formula. 9.8 being the force exerted on the rod by the earth's gravitational pull. This would yield the approximate speed of the rod upon impact.

Why are we splitting atoms here? It hurts the RP.

Dam, now I just feel stupid, I must have forgot this stuff when I got out of high school.

However, the only definition I have found for a WMD is "A weapon that kills civilians and military personal using nuclear capabilities, chemicals or biological components.

By this definition its not a WMD.

Instead of arguing non-fucking stop and making it a pain to catch the fuck up with this, how about y'all learn to shut it and bring it to the EII thread or to the EII forums. If you have SUCH a problem, don't clutter THIS damn thread! It seems like a BIG problem with EII and some other RPs I've been too.

If I were to employ the rods against a densely populated city as I did on Sparta Dominion, the result would be indiscriminate destruction on the scale of a minor nuclear attack. However, I am targeting your capital ships, which are a single, focused target. The killing caused by the rods will be discriminate (only those ships) and will be exclusively on military personnel.

Again, note the distinction between tacnukes and city-busters. Both are considered WMD, even if the scale is totally different.

[OOC:

Bjornoya, take into consideration that they would be entering the atmosphere at 10,972.8m/sec, not impacting at that velocity. Theoritical acceleration during a 'verticle' drop would be ~9.81m/s². So the velocity the rod would hit the surface of the earth is many times higher than the velocity it would enter the atmosphere.]

OOC: Right, and I missed a pi in calculations: if impact on Earth would be 36,000 ft/sec total KE if completely transferred would be 2.1TJ (still a mere fraction) Reducing the size of the rods or reducing the 'initial' velocity could easily take the weapon off the scale of a WMD.
Regardless, two other questions are the 36,000 ft/sec a complete vertical vector (could easily enter at an angle), and even a Tungsten rod would reach a terminal velocity (calculating is beyond me)
Using PE and adding KE is also out of question due to changing gravitational force and uncertainty of direction of velocity.
Further investigation is required, and what exactly are the "effects of an earth-penetrating nuclear weapon." And what would happen if they hit water?

I'm not trying to be an ass about this, I merely think people are always quick to jump to conclusions and/or do not examine every aspect of the situation. I've never seen or heard of a weapon like this and am suprised I didn't think of it. I'd preffer to see other more scientific articles about these.

KE=1/2*M*V^2
=1/2*34232 kg (mass)* (36,000 ft/s=10972.8m/s (initial) + 2,217m/s (velocity gained from drop from a height of 1,000,000 meters, a LEO) 13190^2= 2.98 TJ

From 8,000 km up = 9.4 TJ

This is even with additional velocity when dropped through atmosphere, assuming 36,000ft/s is completely vertical without a terminal velocity or finding air resistance, and assuming all energy is transferred into destruction upon impact (all highly improbable, true KE would be far less) Not on the scale of a nuclear explosion, even the smallest (80 TJ Atmoic blast) as the article states. Hardly large enough to be a WMD (the debate here).

OOC: The smallest warhead in the Cold War US Nuclear arsenal could detonate with a power of 48GJ (10 tonnes TNT equivalent). This is still classified as a WMD as it causes a hell of alot of damage
Bjornoya
27-05-2006, 18:13
ooc: 10 ton TNT nuke blast would destroy 2 blocks, so could a decent home-made bomb.
KE is notorious for being lost in the surroundings as heat. Considering the precision of these weapons it will not effect nearly as large of an area as a nuke.
Even small differences in mass or initial velocity would drastically change the overall energy. Diffent conditions of the rods could be comparable to the lbs. of explosives in a missile, which with other factors determine withor or not the weapon is a WMD. Trying to say every time these are used would be as oversimplistic as saying every time a missile is fired it is a WMD.

The row of aircraft flew in perfect formation, each fighters right wing painted red, an indicator to there sqaudron.

Crossing the border at 700, maintain formation, targets are up ahead.

The voice came over the radio. The 45th Tactical Squadron was performing a sweep close to the Terron/Tyrandis border preparing for the land assault which was to follow. The attack was carried out at night as the instruments in the cockpits illuminated the eerily yelolw as the pilots withit sudder in excitment, worry, and that special feeling you get when out at night. A few miles behind them, the Marine Division was paradropping into the enemy territory to capture a quick entry routh into the Tyrandis controlled land. There voices came over the radio.

Remember men, if you do not jump you are useless and a faulire to this Division, its times to uphold the honor of our people, our country, and the Royal Marines, remember we are the best.

We are the best! We are the best!

This is AWACS callsign Eagle Eye, AA defenses reported ahead, all units remain on track, 45th, make sure our men hit the ground and continue to provide close air support.

Roger that Eagle Eye........sh*t! We got flak 11:00 clock!

Remember men, this is it, crap! WE LOST THE DOOR! PLATOON MOVE MOVE MOVE!

You heard um, jump jump, when you hit the ground continue to move and regroup, this is it, the first assault of this war.

The dark shrouds of parachutes escaped the large cargo transports, the night encompased the field as all that became visable was the tracer fire and the light from engines and missiles. The moon cast a pale light on the clouds of parachutes as the men began hitting the ground. The AA defenses in the air where met with explosions as UGDB's where fired providing more light to an already chaotic scene. Over one of the moving platoons a fireball erupted as a plane blew to flames and hit the ground, the pilot escaping succesfully and landing close to the men.

Back up in the air, a large sleak black plane known as a "Chaser" was busily preparing to drop its large black payload, not a bomb but a long rod, the pilots voice came over the radio.

Prepared to drop the dummy, is Sky Eye online.

.....Roger! Sky Eye is online, begin test.

The planes payload opened as a large black dummy plane fell from, catching wind under its large wings that flapped out and glided away from the plane, almost instantly a large blue laser came out of nowehere seemingly miles away and hit it as it disinstigrated into flames. The pilots chatter hitter the radio.

What the hell was that!

its, its a Sky Eye, we got a Sky Eye with us, victory is assured.

Amazing, that thing is so accurate from such far distances........

Stop with the theatrics and close that jaw airmen, we gotta keep those men on the ground alive, now lets go.

The date marked a special time as the Terronians officially entered the war...

Beijing

The emergency session of the Supreme Soviet saw full attendance as the senators of the UER gathered to hear Premier Kristan Zhao's 'special motion'; most already knew what it would be, and some were dreading the moment when it was announced. Journalists packed the press gallery, eager to report back about what was rumoured to be taking place. The hustle and bustle came to a halt as Premier Zhao strode in, earning a standing ovation from the assembly. Zhao gazed out at the senators as he began.

"As we are all aware, the nation of Tyrandis is waging an offensive war against the nation of Huahin in a despicable war of aggression; the nations of Kreynoria and Terronian have already committed forces to the defence of Huahin. The three defensive nations all have something in common....they are our allies.

Now, I realise that the idea of war is distasteful; war should only ever be a last resort. Unfortunately, Tyrandis has chosen to use war as a first resort. They see fit to bully other nations into handing over territory; they act like the old Zhonghuan Empire did! Our allies are standing up for Huahin's right to exist, a principle which is both noble and honourable.

Our forces are already preparing for war, in case Tyrandis or their allies choose to strike us first. If our territory is violated, then we will not hesitate to bring destruction to our enemies. If any form of WMDs are used, we will retaliate with massive and lethal force. Do not mistake us for a soft-hearted nation; if we are violated with such weaponry, we will not delay in repaying our attackers a hundredfold. However, I hope that this conflict can be settled peacefully before too many lives are lost. Tyrandis has an opportunity to end this bloodshed before it is too late, and I would like to believe that they will do so.

I have called you all here to place a special emergency motion before you. Do we assist in the defence of our allies, or do we also aim for the dismemberment of the Tyrandisan war machine? Would we be content simply driving them off or would we pursue them and destroy their warmaking capabilities? That is the question we must answer."

Official Squornshelan Government Communique to Tyrandis
For some time, your nation has been at war with our allies in the South Pacific. We have deliberated over the proper course of action, and have decided that we must move to support them in any way possible if your aggression continues. Therefore, we issue to you, the following ultimatum:

If your ground, air and naval forces are not immediately withdrawn from the territory, airspace and territorial waters of any and all Pacifinesian nations they may be intruding on, namely Terronian, we will have no choice but to declare war on Tyrandis.

All along the Squornshelan-Tyrandian border, Military awareness, prescence and readiness was heightened from its already elevated status. Offensive and defensive missile batteries were armed to fire at a moment's notice, and tanks, troops and various other vehicles moved to prepared defensive positions, while others waited in reserve. All available ships of the Squornshelan navy put to sea, if they were not already there. Squornshelan forces also arrayed themselves in a similar manner along the border with Doomingsland, as it was anticipated a strike against Tyrandis would bring reprisals from their allies.

ooc: You have until noon Eastern Time (US) on wednesday to respond to this Tyrandis. If you haven't at least attempted to negotiate by then, I will RP my attack.

Imperial High Command, Capua, Italy

The High Command had only been relocated to Italy for a few months when word came in that Squornshelousians were assembling along the borders of Imperial land. This was precisely what the newly declared Imperator Secundus I had been waiting for: an excuse to dive into Pacific affairs.

Long had the Empire looked to its Siberian borders with envy. Now that someone had been so foolish as to preemptively assemble along Imperial borders, Secundus could now wage his war of conquest against the heathen.

Indeed, the Squornshelousians were smart in assuming attacks against Tyrandis would bring reprisals from their allies. However, they had forgotten one thing: The Doomani loved to land the first blow. So it would be in this instance.

"Now, brothers...what do we know of the defenses of these infidels?" questioned the Imperator to General Marcus Valerius, his top advisor.

"The forces they are moving along our borders appear to be on their highest alert status. They seem to be expecting something...rightly so, I might add,"

Secundus smirked in response. "Like it will do them any good. Now, the bombers are prepared, yes?"

The bombers he spoke of were newly delivered Tyrandisian-designed SB-22 Sariel strategic bombers, known to the Arma Caelum Imperium Doomanum (Imperial Airforce) as the ACI-22 Malleus.

"Of course, m'lord, as per your orders," replied the general casualy.

”Oh, and one more thing…make a note to give their territory a less long and annoying name. Honestly, I can’t even spell Squornshelous without looking in a dictionary!”

Valerius snickered at that. ”Of course, m’lord. To tell you the truth, I don’t think there is a man in this room that can…”

Very well, then. Rain hell fire upon these heathens, they must learn that our vengeance is both swift and terrible. Many must die for this purpose.” he said commandingly.

And so it began.

Imperial Province of Rusium (Amur Oblast and Primorsky Kray), Squornshelousian Border

A good sized force had already been assembled for the initial ground thrust, consisting of a little over half-a-dozen legions along with a very sizable force of Imperial Guard to act as cannon fodder for the coming invasion. These forces had been in place, acting as defensive units for the time being. However, the arrangement of these units allowed for them to immediately be deployed in an offensive role, as the enemy would soon learn.

However, the invasion would not begin in earnest until the enemy’s static defenses and air force had mostly been suppressed. Also on the agenda was annihilating the Pacificnesia alliance’s satellite weaponry as a whole, with the exception of satellites belonging to Pacificnesia nations that had wisely chosen to remain neutral in the conflict.

The attack would commence simultaneously, with enemy space assets being hit at the same time as land, air, and sea-based assets. It was all timed ever so meticulously.

The strike against enemy ground assets was to be absolutely astronomical. Well over two thousand five-hundred bombers would be taking part in the initial attack against border defenses and any naval assets in reach. These included both the older, heavily modified Layarteban-designed ACI-9D Romulus bombers and the newer ACI-22A Malleus, both extremely stealthy aircraft capable of carrying enormous payloads.

Along with these units would be land based surface-to-surface missiles and lighter medium bombers and attack aircraft. These would all be protected by land-based surface-to-air missiles and Aquila air superiority fighters.

The attack kicked off no more than an hour after the Squornshelousians delivered their ultimatum to the Tyrandisians. Twenty ACI-148 AWACS aircraft along with land-based ELINT stations had already been sniffing out the radio signals from the enemy’s RADAR and pinpointing their positions, which were relayed to land-based surface-to-surface missile launchers.

The launch vehicles, modified DM-47 Hellrains, were positioned just two hundred miles back from the border, out of range of enemy tube artillery and most likely their multiple rocket launch systems. At precisely one hour from the delivery of the ultimatum, the attack commenced. Roughly four thousand long-range surface-to-surface anti-radiation missiles were launched, targeting enemy RADAR and SAM sites, especially around areas that were to be targeted by the coming bombers. These missiles would home in on the enemy’s own RADAR waves, releasing cluster munitions over their targets and completely saturating them with hundreds of baseball-sized bomblets.

At the same time, a fleet of five hundred extremely stealthy Aquila air superiority fighters, assisted by friendly AWACS aircraft, released a barrage of well over three-thousand AC-211 medium range air-to-air missiles from a range of one hundred and twenty miles, targeting the enemy’s air assets. These missiles would initially be guided by an AWACS datalink, homing in on enemy aircraft via data from the AWACS as not to rely on the fighters for their RADAR (which would compromise their positions) and not to rely on their own RADAR, which would warn the enemy of the closing missiles.

Once they went terminal at a range of twenty or so miles, they would be relying on internal LIDAR, LADAR, infrared, RADAR, and electro-optical sensors, rendering the use of chaff, flare, and jamming pretty much useless. Any defensive maneuvering would be rendered null by the missiles’ own 3D thrust vectoring systems. After releasing the missiles, the fighters would break formation and head back, most likely preventing any effective retaliation from taking place (it was unlikely the enemy’s RADAR would pick them up in the first place as it was)

In addition to this, the AWACS themselves launched sixty long range AC-157 anti-AWACS missiles, targeting the enemy’s own AWACS craft from ranges as far as eight hundred kilometers, closing in on their targets at mach five, homing in on the enemy aircraft’s own RADAR emissions.

Friendly bombers simultaneously unleashed a total of five hundred ACL-75B Sagittarius cruise missiles equipped with penetrating warheads (targeting hangars, control towers, barracks, ammunition depots, ect.) and cluster munitions (targeting the runways, also included in the warheads are mines). These missiles would fly low to the earth, making use of terrain to conceal their approach, and hit enemy airfields and hangars, hopefully catching what remained of the Squornshelousian air force in that theatre on the ground and helpless.

Also taking part in the initial offensive, dubbed Operation: Crusader, was the Empire’s Fist of God satellite network. Over five hundred tiny satellites, each equipped with ten or so “Brilliant Pebbles”-style kinetic kill projectiles, opened fire on the Pacificnesia’s offensive, defensive, communications, and global positioning satellite systems. These projectiles, roughly the size of a watermelon, would be guided via laser, LADAR, infrared, RADAR, and electro-optical systems, and would hit the enemy’s satellites at extremely high speed, hopefully destroying them. Their velocity and small size would make them extremely difficult to intercept by enemy defensive systems, and their sheer number would make it next to impossible to stop them. However, the satelites of neutral Pacificnesia nations were spared. KAIN had enough enemies as it was.

Hopefully after this, there would be no more godrod attacks on KAIN forces.

As for the attack on the Squornshelousian fleet, no less than two-hundred bombers were commissioned to soften up the enemy’s fleet before the naval war began in earnest. These bombers, older but none the less extremely lethal ACI-9Ds equipped with Quinqereme anti-shipping missiles unleashed a devastating barrage of no less than twelve-hundred missiles from a range of 800 miles. These missiles would cruise at medium altitude for the majority of the trip at mach three or so, and begin their decent at two hundred or so miles distance. They would then hit sea-skimming level, running at mach 1.3 or so. At a range of twenty miles, the missiles would slam on the brakes and release their payloads: supercavitating torpedoes. These torpedoes, upon hitting the water, would immediately begin to supercavitate, reaching a speed of 300 knots, making them impossible to outrun and extremely difficult to outmaneuver, and even more difficult to intercept. They would swarm the enemy’s fleet, concentrating on important vessels such as battleships and aircraft carriers. These torpedoes were designed to take on Super Dreadnaughts, so it would be unlikely the Squornshelousians would be able to take this attack without sustaining heavy casualties.

Finally, the killing blow of the first stage. The main bomber fleet, numbering two thousand brand new ACI-22A Malleus strategic bombers, after the anti-radiation missiles and air-to-air missiles hit their targets; the bombers would cruise towards their targets at high altitude. Their targets: the enemy’s border defenses and ground troops. Cruising at an altitude of 65,000 feet, they would be out of range of enemy AAA, and thanks to their high degree of stealth, would most likely go undetected by any surviving enemy SAM sites.

Their payload: 27,500 kilograms of guided ordnance. These ranged from cluster bombs (both regular fragmenting for softer targets and specialized ones with individually guided tandemn HEAT bomblets for enemy armor), to conventional guided 2000lb regular and bunker buster bombs, 1000lb and 500lb bombs to cause general havoc amongst the enemy’s fixed and mobile defenses, and the enemy’s troops. Fuel air explosives and napalm was also used quite liberally to add to the inferno.

The aircraft would, of course, be escorted by no less than five hundred more Aquilas (different from the ones that first initiated the attack).

All in all, a total of fifty-five million kilos of ordnance would be expended on the border alone. It was unlikely there would be much left of the defenders to speak of after the fact, with a world record amount of precision guided weapons being expended on them.

The Imperial XII Armada based out of Primorsky Kray was also at sea, and moved to engage the enemy fleet.

OOC:ORBAT coming ASAP, I have finals to deal with first.

Official message from Huahin
Following the recent acts by Doomingsland, a state of war now exists between Huahin and Doomingsland. Any Doomani citizens found in Huahin will be rounded up, tortured for information, then shot.

Huahinian forces were put on the highest alert. Bomber crews were on standby ready to bomb the living daylights out of anything with a pulse in Doomingsland. 1,500 high altitude B-1 "Icarus" bombers and 500 hypersonic B-2 "Cyclone" bombers were ready for missions in Doomingsland, whilst hundreds of high altitude F-4 "Osiris" fighters were on their way to defend the skies over Siberia.

In space, all of the Huahinian satellites had been taken out, but they were cheap and replacable and only used to launch the "rods from God", whilst Stratellites did most of the work. High up in the sky, Airborne Carriers moved in to position, carrying tiny unmanned fighter drones, as well as VTOL manned aircraft.

Huahinian missile subs moved out from bases in the Kuriles and launched the first attack on Doomingsland. 500 StormShadow cruise missiles were launched from the submarines and attacked the major military ports and airfields in Doomingsland (the far east bit).

Back in the Huahinian capital, Hucclecote, and many thousands of feet underground, the Huahinian Senate had called an emergency meeting with the Chiefs of the Armed Forces to assess the situation.

[Cabinet meeting, 29th floor, Government House, Oslo]

"Situasjonen i det fjerne østen har blitt enda varmere, bokstavelig talt. Ut fra satelittbildene våre har Doomingsland gått til angrep på Squourn... jeg klarer pokker ikke å uttale det, men dere vet hvilken nasjon jeg snakker om." [The situation in the far east have become ever hotter, litteraly speaking. From what our satellites tell us, Doomingsland have attacked Sqourn... damnit, I can't pronounce it, but you know what nation I'm talking about.]

The twelve men and six women in the room smiled at the remark made by the Defense Minister, seventy-six year old John Alvheim. Alvheim had been the defense minister for close to eight years now, being one of a very few original members of Prime Minister Rothskys cabinet. The elderly giant in Cottish politics was a man that to his friends was a good, trusted and loyal friend who always would be there for you, while he was the worst adversary there was to his enemies. Thomas Rothsky, the Prime Minister nearing the end of his second term as Prime Minister of Cotland smiled and took over.

"Okay John. Hva foreslår du at vi gjør med denne situasjonen?" [OK John. How do you propose we respond to the situation?]

"Enkelt. Vi setter styrkene våre på høyere beredskap. Det er jo en viss sjanse for at dette kan utvikle seg til en større konflikt..." [Easy. We increase the military readyness. There is a certain chance of this escalating to a greater conflict...]

"Men den foregår i det fjerne østen. Det nærmeste vi har til konfliktområdet er Kalmykia, som for tiden har en militær befolkning på nesten hundre prosent. Jeg synes vi burde beholde beredskapen som den er." [But it's happening in the far east. The closest territory we have to the conflict area is Kalmykia, which at present have a military population of nearly one hundred per cent. I believe that we should maintain our current readyness.]

The woman who spoke up was the new Foreign Minister, Siv Jensen. This thirty-eight year old woman was the new chairman of the Progress Party and another powerful figure in Cottish politics. Her position as the Foreign Minister made her one of the ten most important people in Cotland, with the Prime Minister, the Defense Minister, the Finance Minister, the King, the Chief of the Armed Forces and the three Birkebeiner operatives carrying the nuclear suitcases, two of which were outside the meeting room right now. Anyway, her word was not to be considered lightly.

"Det er sant," [True] Alvheim admitted before Rothsky intervened.

"Da foreslår jeg at vi beholder den nåværende beredskapen på BERSTAT fem. Skal vi stemme?" [Then I suggest we maintain the current readyness of BERSTAT five. Shall we vote?]

The cabinet voted and all but three voted to maintain the current readiness level. Smiling, Rothsky checked one thing off the to-do list before he checked the next part.

"Javisst. John, hvordan står det til med operasjon 'Svart Tiger'?" [Of course. John, how is operation 'Black Tiger' coming along?]

"'Svart Tiger' har allerede begynt. Fase en begynte i går ved at de første skipene seilte fra Haakonsvern. De skal være på vei ned Skagerak akkurat nå..." ['Black Tiger' have just begun. Phase one began yesterday with the first ships sailling from Haakonsvern. They're supposed to be on their way own the Skagerak as we speak...]

For clarity's sake, I am of the opinion we should retcon the Melville thing so I'm attacking the area controlled by Terronian.

[Defense of Cape York Peninsula]

The inbound flight of Terronian aircraft was duly picked up as they crossed the southern border, thanks to the immense RADAR surveillance network the country had erected around the territory. Utilizing an overlapping series of ground stations, each of which scanned a different RF band, the system was designed specifically to counter stealth aircraft by pouring radio energy across such a wide spectrum that no measure could be taken to prevent detection. The long-range component, a massive Relocatable OTH RADAR operating in the high frequency band, had no trouble detecting the blundering transports the Terronians used to carry their paratroopers - as a result, an airborne E-767 AWACS was diverted to the area, escorted by five Squadrons of four TSF-620A Xeon Air Superiority Fighters. It was singularly confusing as to why the Terronians decided to so blatantly violate the NAP the Militaristic Federation so generously offered them, and also their poor tactics in an initial incursion, but nonetheless, this bounty was greatly pleasing to the soldiers in the field. Barring the minor loss of a few ill-trained tactical units, local commanders expected to see minimal casualties incurred in the defense of the Cape York Peninsula.

Considering that the Terronians had completely neglected to suppress the Tyrandisan air defense network, it was no surprise that the incoming transport aircraft were swiftly engaged by SAM sites, fixed P.746.F launchers. A derivative of the standard Praetorians that armed most the Imperial Navy's ships, they were an ultra-long range design intended to counter strategic aircraft at maximum engagement range. Illuminated by the ROTHR network which fed the firing data to attached Praetorian batteries, the Terronian paratroopers were doomed to suffer ignomious death, as most of them would not exit their aircraft alive. For every single Terronian transport, two P.746.Fs were fired. Considering that the missiles had a range of over 850 kilometers, and some of the most sophisticated sensor equipment known to man, it was expected that none of the Terronian transports would escape. The ducted-RAMjet powerplants of the P.746.F missiles propelled them at speeds exceeding Mach 4.7 - more than quickly enough to intercept the lumbering transport planes. When the observed flash of their "Sky Eyes" laser system was detected, the warning network poured its resources into finding the firing platform. This was easily done, due to the enormous RCS of the modified airliner, and three P.746.Fs were lobbed in response.

The airmen of the Terronian 45th Tactical Fighter Squadron, however, were engaged by twenty airborne Xeons, each of which were armed with their standard outfit of two ATAIM-5 BVRAAMs, six ATAIM-4 XMRAAMs, and four ATAIM-1 XSRAAMs for close combat. The Terronian AWACS generated an enormous ECM signature - thus the E-767 operators quickly discovered its bearings and ordered its destruction. One squadron of four TSF-620As engaged, their AN/PSI-6 RADARs turned off to ensure maximum low-observability for the strike. About half a minute before the -620s entered range for ATAIM-5 launch, the E-767 activated its own RADAR, blasting several million kilowatts of RF energy down a one degree line of bearing to illuminate the blundering Terronian AWACS for the pilots. The Tyrandisan pilots did as instinct and training taught them and fired off a BVRAAM each from internal bays. Four ATAIM-5s were chasing the AWACS now, inertially guided at a velocity of Mach 3.7. The Terronians would never suspect what would hit them, until it was too late. Perfectly synchronized mere moments after this attack, the E-767 activated its air search mode, discovering the locations of the Terronian fighters for the other fifteen Xeons to engage silently and unseen. As they were flying in "perfect formation", the Tyrandisans would slaughter them en masse, firing two ATAIM-5s for each targeted aircraft. Following this salvo, the Xeons split off and descended on the scattering TADF fighters like hawks slaying a tender dove, supercruising towards their prey with RADARs off.

With the Terronian air support most likely annihilated or at least seriously crippled, it was time for the Tyrandisans to smash what few paratroopers escaped the slaughterhouse in the skies above. This was done by marking the suspected landing zone, as ascertained by modified fire-finding RADAR, with white phosphorous flares launched via scattered 155 millimeter field guns. Twenty five VTA-68R "Lancer" Attack Helicopters silently emerged just above the treetops, their infrared scanning equipment detecting the marked areas and relaying the data to the chopper pilots. Each was armed with sixty four FFAR unguided rockets, four Hellfire-II missiles with heavily modified warheads, and a thirty millimeter chain gun. The Tyrandisan whirlybirds opened with a salvo of rockets on the flat plain, unleashing unspeakable terror on the Terronian infantrymen below, their wrath primarily focused on faint heat signatures that trumpeted the location of a human body. Dancing around the area like Indians circling a wagontrain of settlers, they poured enormous quantities of fire on the embattled position. This gruesome process would not cease until every man on the ground was dead or surrendered.

Aboard several Squornshelan AWACS aircraft, some very interesting things were unfolding on the radar screens. An unusual number of Doomani AWACS aircraft were aloft with radars active. Several reports were sent back along the chain of command and orders were issued that sent numerous patrol aircraft aloft, as well as prepping all aircraft in the area for immediate takeoff.

Shortly later, the AWACS craft picked up a cluster of sketchy radar signatures, and then the launch of thousands of missiles of various types. They continued to plot vectors of missiles and direct friendly aircraft until, as per their orders, they switched off their radars for a period of 120 seconds to throw off incoming missiles.

The Squornshelan combat aircraft had no such defense, and while they knew missiles were coming, they could not track them themselves, and the necessity of switching off the AWACS radars made it difficult for them to evade effectively. Those equipped with ACM jammers quickly switched them on, and many lanched magnesium flares and aluminum chaff as they were infromed of the missiles' approach by flight controllers estimating based off the data from the AWACS. All of the aircraft were ordered to drop to the deck in hopes of confusing the missiles radar with reflections from the ground. These tactics were not very effective, and a large portion of the airborne craft were shot down or damaged.

Suddenly, over land, many of the Squornshelan AWACS aircraft became suddenly aware of incoming missiles. It appeared that the tactic of switching off their radars had not been effective enough. The sets had been switched back on too soon, and many of the incoming missiles had reaquired targets. There was little the lumbering E-3 Sentry's could do to evade, and most of them fell burning into the forests below. There would now be a serious deficiency in airborne ELINT for the Squornshelan forces until new AWACS aircraft could arrive from bases further North and East.

Unfortunately for the Doomani SSM's the few SAM batteries and air stations that had their radars online at the time of launch were warned by the AWACS aircraft and quickly switched them off. After a few minutes, all of the SAM batteries arrayed along the border swtiched their radars back on. The missiles guided by their internal GPS systems, had been able to get very close to their targets, but not quite close enough to cause lethal damage, since the mobile SA-11 and SA-13 batteries had been able to move safely out of their target area.

It was a different story at the big stationary emplacements at Squornshelan airbases. The immobile RADAR sets sat helpless as the ARMs closed in and most were destroyed or damaged. While a few would be reparable, they would be down for a several hours at the least. Only a handful, most of which were powered down for one reason or another at the time the missiles were launched, survived intact. They quickly powered up to try to fill the huge void left by the destruction of the AWACS and other RADAR sets.

Meanwhile, the few remaining AWACS aircraft switched their radars back on and immediately detected more incoming air to surface missiles, most bound for Squornshelan airbases. They relayed their findings back to regional command and a snap descision was made.

Attack.

From every airbase near the border, large or small, all available planes took off. On the ground, assembled tanks, infantry and other vehicles began to move forward. They were supported by hundreds of attack helicopters of various types: 50 AH-1Z Super Cobras, 30 AH-6J Little Birds, 100 AH-64D Apache Longbows, 30 AH-66A Comanches and 200 H-1A/M Firestorms. Ahead of the attack, Predator drone aircraft collected real time intelligence about the terrain ahead, and the locations of enemy radar and SAM locations.

At that moment, the cruise missiles launched by the earlier bomber attack began to strike their targets, most of which were air bases. The results were catastrophic, with most of the Squornshelan air force being caught in the process of scrambling. Only about 200 fighter aircraft were able to launch with the rest being destroyed or severely damaged on the ground. Most of the Fighter/Bombers in the area were also caught grounded, with only around 100 taking off safely. There was also serious damage to the airbase structures themselves, with many control towers and hangars being destroyed or damaged and sever damage to most runways. However, control operations were quickly routed to secondary locations and runways were repaired by bulldozers with gravel and sheet metal.

The most serious damage was to the ammunition depots, several of which were completely destroyed. however, there would still be enough supplies to run the army until more could be brought in.

The only good news was that the missiles aimed at mustering points for the Squornshelan troops fell on empty earth, as the army was already moving forward. Overhead, the surviving aircraft roared overhead, hoping to strike at Doomani installations and aircraft. With most of the Squornshelan AWACS down, the fighter bombers, mostly MiG 27 Floggers and FB-111 Aardvarks were flying practically blind to long range threats. They flew low on the deck with their RADAR off and maintaining strict radio silence. Their objective was to strike at Doomani RADAR facilities and blind them as well. They would use a mixture of TV guided bombs and ARMs fired from close range to knock out the enemy RADAR.

High above the smoking wreckage of their bases, the remaining fighters, almost all of which were F-22A's, patrolled, waiting to be directed toward anything that might be found by the two AWACS birds still up. They would have to be a bit lucky to find the bomber formation coming in.

In the sea of Okhotsk, the Squornshelans were slightly more prepared for their attackers. They were also slightly farther away from their attackers home base, and had a few minutes of warning before the enemy bombers launched their missiles. In this time, the closest task force group to the coast, the only logical target for the Doomani forces, prepared itsself well. The force consisted of the following ships:
2 Improved Kiev class CVN
2 Improved Nimitz class CVA
1 Kirov class CBG
5 Ticonderoga[i] class CG
7 [i]Arleigh Burke class DDG
10 Intruder class DD
4 Invisible class DD
4 Oliver Hazard Perry class FF

There were also 10 SSNs of various types in the general area.

The four aircraft carriers launched their full complement of 96 F-22N naval air superiority fighters. There would be no off switch trickery this time, this was going to be a straight up fight. The F-22N's went to afterburner towards the most logical direction for a Doomani bomber strike to come from. They very nearly made it, but a scant 60 seconds before the fighters would be in acquisition range the bombers loosed their 1200 missiles. However, the fighters could still make them pay. They quickly realized they were heading in the right direction when the ASM's showed up on their scopes. After launching a few snapshot missiles at the ASM's, they tore on towards the now reatreating bombers.

In the frenzy of trigger pulling that followed, the F-22N's launched a total of 192 AIM-9 Sidewinder and 288 AIM-7B Sparrow II missiles at the fleeing bombers. The integral radars added to the AIM-7B's allowed the Raptors to turn and run for home the minute their last missiles were spent, and they hurried back to see if their airbases wer still afloat.

Back at the taskforce, it was time for the 12 AEGIS vessels present to earn their stripes, as it were. The Ticonderoga's and Arleigh Burke's amred their powerful AEGIS radars and readied their launchers. The minute the incoming missiles came into range, missiles began to fly out of launchers. The only problem was this: the incoming missiles outnumbered those in the armories of the AEGIS vessels. Even with improved ammunition carrying capacity that the Squornshelan Naval deparment had insisted on, the five Tico's only carried 128 missiles each, and the seven Arleigh Burke's had 72 each, for a grand total of 1144. Even if each missile lanuched targeted its own unique Quinqereme, there would be 56 missiles left over.

As the AEGIS launchers sat empty a scant 4 minutes and 16 seconds later, there were still 73 missiles coming in at the formation. At this point, evasive action was the only defense the taskforce had, and all ships went to flank speed, and the formation borke up as ships headed out of it in all directions, with the exception of the direction of the incoming missiles. So it ws that some of the supercavitating torpedoes were unalbe to find targets, dropping into the water 20 miles from where the task force had been previously. Due to the nature of supercavitation, the torpedoes were not optimized to pick up new targets far away from their intended course. However, they did find a few slower ships that were not able to clear the target area in time, and all four Oliver Hazard Perry vessels were destroyed, along with one fo the Invisible class destroyers and one Arleigh Burke. On of the Kiev class carriers was severly damaged, but somehow remained afloat.

The remainder of the southern portion of the Squornshelan fleet, consisting of nearly 2000 vessels already spread out through the Sea of Okhotsk began to prepare to launch an attack on Doomani eomplacements and vessels. The enemy navy was vastly outmatched by the number of vessels it faced, but there would be no chances taken by the Squornshelans. The first real retaliation strike came from the SSBNs, mostly located North and Northwest of Sakhalin. The 90 submarines launched a total of 1350 ballistic missiles on shallow trajectory paths. They were targeted at military installations around Doomingsland, but mostly those located near the border and the coast. They were armed with conventional high explosive warheads, but each missile included several MIRV's which would seperate when beginning the final approach to their targets. This would give a total of aroudn 16,000 individual warheads, aiming at everything from ammo and fuel depots to aircraft hangars, concentrations of ground troops and naval stations.

Hundreds of F-22N's were also launched, along with carrier based AWACS aircraft. ASW helicopters buzzed around the perimiter of the larger formations, pinging away with active sonar and dropping a mixture passive and active sonobouys. Many of the aircraft were sent westward, to support the decimated Squornshelan airforce along the Doomani border.

In the sea of Okhotsk, the Squornshelan Wolfpack, or attack submarine fleet was heading quickly to gain strategic locations to ambush Doomani ships heading northward from their base in Primorsky Krai. A deadly net of SSN's would await the Doomani fleet as they tried to make their way North toward the main body of the Squornshelan Navy.

On land, SSM's of various types were being launched against Doomingsland, including MRBM's similar to those being launched from the submarines, and Tomahawk cruise missiles. The Tomahawks especially were targeted using pre-programmed flight paths based on landmarks the missiles would encounter along their path. These missile would strike deep into the heart of Doomingsland, specifically, at power plants, and oil refineries.

Tyrandis, the Air Froce Squadron was miles ahead of the transports plus the drop was on a very smalla rea merely miles north of the Terronian/Ty border. Also the transports flew in range of the Sky Eye a chemical laser that targets and fires a laser that takes down enemy planes and missiles within .3 seconds each. Unless you hurled over a million planes at the transport there would be no chance that you could have destroyed any of them before the Sky Eye eliminated all of your planes, the paradrops are hitting the ground and moving toward my territory to esablish a spearhead.

As for the Terronian Fighter Squadron, as I stated, it was sweeping the area clear of SAMs and other facilitiys. A squadron taking off from an Air Base merely two miles or so away from the borner could not be picked up and have a defense scrambled against it in time to stop them from doing damage.

OOC:You left out the cruise missile strikes on your airbases, I think that would've kept alot of your planes grounded. I'll respond to your counter-offensive once that's addressed, and my missiles’ new actions are addressed (will probably require you to change your counter-offensive).

IC:

The Squornshelousian AWACS' attempt to throw the missiles off, while reasonably well thought-out, was not totally sound. For example, the missiles were quite easily able to reaquire their targets after the 120 seconds had expired and the hostile AWACS' RADAR began transmitting once more. Even while they were turned off, Imperial AWACS aircraft transmitted the locations of the enemy AWACS to the missiles themselves.

They did not crash harmlessly into the ground. Rather, they continued on towards their targets. If they were able to down the AWACS (which was more than likely, now), it would allow the ground launched SSMs to do their jobs with the SAM and RADAR sites, thus allowing for the operation to continue unaffected.

OOC: I seriously doubt your carrier-based escorts could launch and then close 800 miles quick enough to get within engagement range of the bombers (which have the RCS of a B-2, so from that distance (hell, at 500 miles its probably impossible) there is no RADAR in the world that would have been able to pick them up). I'll let it slide, though, just remember for next time.

IC:

Meanwhile, the naval offensive seemed to be going on rather well. The bombers had successfully released their ordnance, and turned and kicked on their afterburners, rocketing to a velocity of mach three and climbing to an altitude of 80,000 feet. This allowed for them to remain out of range of the enemy fighters. Most were able to outrun and out-climb the pursuing enemy fighters without much difficulty, and so many escaped.

However, the enemy fighters were able to catch a few of the bombers still in the process of launching their ordnance, and so they were able to down eleven of them.

The fact the enemy fighters had managed to close nearly 800 miles in a matter of what seemed like minutes and come so close to the bombers seemed miraculous, but it didn’t much matter at this point.

OOC: Do you have MSN or AIM? I have the feeling we may need to talk regarding this war… I’ll respond to the other stuff later.

Huahinian missile subs moved out from bases in the Kuriles and launched the first attack on Doomingsland. 500 StormShadow cruise missiles were launched from the submarines and attacked the major military ports and airfields in Doomingsland (the far east bit).

Doom, you seemed to have missed this part of my post.
Also, its quite easy to detect stealth aircraft. There's a few ways, the main one is using over the horizon radar such as the Australian Jindalee radar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jindalee_over-the-horizon_radar) to detect the wake turbulance. Also, if quite a few different wavelengths are tried out, eventually a wavelength which is twice the length of the plane would be produced, which causes a strong RADAR return.

OOC: You want to explain how you can achieve sufficient cooling for a COIL-type laser to fire shots in .3s intervals? Because you'd need superconductors for that kind of performance (which are non-existent). Also, how the hell are you getting sufficient power output to use it as an offensive weapon? Or enough fuel for "a million" shots?

Not to mention I was tossing P.746.F missiles at your lumbering, slow-ass transports as soon as they crossed the border due to RADAR detection. You completely failed to mention any sort of SEAD move, and my SAMs were hidden via a bi-static RADAR setup - they had receiver sites embedded to the overall surveillance architecture. So basically, you couldn't have known where they were unless you conducted recon flights beforehand.

Squorn, if you read the writeup on the ACI-22 Doom uses, you'd realize that I engineered the thing precisely to counter all of the beyond horizon-line RADAR detection measures. It's covered in long-wavelength absorbing schiff base salts, leaves a very clean wake due to the shaping, and is thus effectively impossible to detect past ~400 kilometers, and still very difficult to do so even after it's gone past that range. OTH systems are extremely bulky, and the bandwidths they use to bounce off the ionosphere possess low energy, meaning that the RF signal can be significantly reduced through absorption.

OOC: The TACL aka "Sky Eye" operation is similar to a rocket engine in which a fuel (ethylene, C2H4) is burned with an oxidizer (nitrogen trifluoride, NF3). Free, excited fluorine atoms are one of the combustion products. Just downstream from the combustor, deuterium and helium are injected into the exhaust. Deuterium combines with the excited fluorine to give excited deuterium fluoride (DF) molecules, while the helium stabilizes the reaction and controls the temperature. The laser's resonator mirrors are wrapped around the excited exhaust gas and optical energy is extracted. The cavity is actively cooled and can be run until the fuel supply is exhausted. The laser's output power can be varied over a wide range by altering the fuel flow rates and mixture. The targeteting consists of a large aperture (1.8 meter) gimbaled telescope and optics to point the TACL or other laser beam onto a target.

The telescope is capable of focusing from a minimum range of 400 meters to infinity. A suite of infrared and visible sensors on the top of the gimbal (off axis from the HEL aperture) is used to acquire and track the target. These sensors look through a 40 cm telescope that can focus over the same range as the SLBD telescope and also correct for parallax between the two lines of sight. Boresight between the SLBD telescope and the sensor is maintained by an automatic laser alignment system. In addition, an aperture sharing element in the high power beam path makes it possible to track a target through the full 1.5 meter telescope aperture even when the high power beam is propagating.

These elements have been combined into an integrated system that can acquire and track targets at extended ranges, accept a very high energy beam, focus and aim the beam on a moving target, and keep this beam at the same position as long as necessary to destroy or disable the target. Its all legit stuff Tyrandis.

Also, as I satted before, Attack aircraft wher ethe first to hit the border thus meaning that they had already performed suffiecient damanage to the SAMS in the area by the time the transports hit the area.

OOC: Ok, so you're using a MIRACL-type system, right? You do realize that the system is designed for ground-based platforms, because the efficiency for power output is too low for operation anywhere else? Also, there is not enough room to mount it in an airliner. Worst of all, the thing only works for less than one minute before needing to be cooled. And you still haven't responded to my points concerning the issue amount of generated heat and fuel load, which would only be exacerbated by using MIRACL. If it were even possible to load it into an airborne platform.

And your aircraft would have had to penetrate over 800 km into my territory in order to take out the SAM sites (which you never RPed detection of anyways).

OOC: I apologize for my lack of activity, but I've been having serious virus and spyware problems with my computer.

First things first, Tyrandis needs to post some losses from my rod attacks.

IC: Once the Doomani attack on Kreynoria's satellites was detected, the response was immediate. The Divine Empire had carefully prepared its large satellite network from attack.

Every Kreynorian satellite was paired with a partner defender satellite, which had the same RCS and ICS. Normally, the defender satellite was switched off. However, once the attack was detected, the defender satellite was switched on and the targeted satellite switched off, simply becoming another rock or piece of space debris.

The defender satellites were equipped with a wide array of detection systems: millimetric radar, LIDAR/LADAR, IR, and electro-optic detection systems. They were also equipped with an arsenal of defensive weaponry.

The first weapon was a COIL laser. The laser could engage up to five targets per second for fifty seconds; thus a total of two hundred fifty of the Doomani projectiles could be destroyed by a single defender satellite.

Each defender also was equipped with two centrifuge guns. The centrifuges could attain a rate of fire of over 2,500 rounds per second at their peak performance.

Finally, each defender was also equipped with four Gatekeeper CIWS. The Gatekeeper was for the most part a standard CIWS, but with one notable difference: its rounds were each equipped with several electronic 'muscles' that could make slight adjustments to the bullet's course. Although not true guidance, this would make the difference between a near miss and a hit.

The defender satellites analyzed the speed of the Doomani weapons, and released countermeasures at 10 seconds to impact. At 3 seconds, the defender would make a sharp roll away from its partner satellite.

Thanks to this well-prepared defense, only seven of the targeted satellites were actually hit: three communications satellites, three SDI satellites, and one GPS satellite. In addition, all 20 of the tungsten rod-firing satellites were destroyed, as they had no defender partners. This, however, mattered little: they had already spent their ammunition and were expendable anyways.

The loss of defender satellites was much higher: 68 defender satellites were destroyed by the Doomani attack. Nevertheless, they had served their purpose well: the actual damage from the Doomani attack was marginal. The attack had also clearly illuminated the Doomani satellite network.

The Kreynorian satellites were reactivated and the defenders shut down once more. The Kreynorian satellites responded with their 'Dragon Breath' laser system. The space lasers would destroy the Doomani satellites nearly instantaneously; range was not a problem as their was no atmosphere to disrupt the laser beams.

In addition, the Kreynorian satellites launched a return missile barrage against their Doomani adversaries. Because of the lack of resistance in space, the missiles did not have to spend much fuel reaching their targets. The large fuel excess was used to allow the missiles to spiral and corkscrew towards their targets, making them harder to destroy.

In the wake of this attack, war has been declared upon Doomingsland.

Amundsen Naval Station, Deception Island, South Shetland Islands

The small and newly established naval station located on Whalers Bay had just been activated after the first of the naval engineering detachment had completed the first stage of construction. The ships still had to anchor inside Port Foster and send people ashore via small boats or helicopters, but at least they were in a Cottish naval facility. The Cots had managed to get it up and running after placing a diesel generator, pre-fabricated structures and a satellite dish ashore to create a temporary base. Within the month, they would have several large transport ships carrying heavy-duty construction equipment and materials at the island, but first they had to do some preperations. Those included securing the island, assessing the geography, blasting away Ravn Rock which posed the greatest threat to the Cottish vessels and establishing a presence, just to mention a few things. Still, they had embodied their claim to the South Shetland Islands by establishing a base and raising the Cottish flag over the islands. Here and on George Island, the Cots would build military bases. Secretly, they would also build a prison complex on Robert Island for housing undesirable elements of the Realm.

Anyway, the radar on the H-86A Merlin helicopter flying far from its home, a Wallace class destroyer currently sailing south-southwest of Deception Island, detected the Dweladelfian fleet at sea. Slightly scared, the pilots contacted their mothership which ordered it to fly closer and find out more. The pilots did as ordered and climbed to 300 meters and flew closer to the fleet. They would stay out of visual range and just observe a little, and hopefully the Dweladelfians would ignore the Cottish helicopter. It wasn't really a threat, being armed with only four Mk.50 Mod 2 Barracuda lightweight ASW torpedoes underneath the fusilage and two 7.62mm general purpose machine guns in the door openings. Flying within 60 nautical miles of the cruising fleet, the Merlin observed while the destroyer alerted the home base of the Dweladelfian fleet movements.

At Amundsen Naval Station, the few ships in port (one Morrigan calss CGN, three Wallace class DDGs, two City class DDGs, two Furtive class FFHs and one Smith class AOE) were alerted and went on increased readiness while sending their own helicopters and UAVs into the air to monitor the area around the island. The few Marines and sailors on shore were also alerted and armed themselves, preparing defensive positions while alerting the nearest real Cottish facility of their status. That place was Caribbean, so there wasn't much help to get there. That was the reason why the Cots established the naval stations here, so that they could have a forward operating base for Pacific and Southern Atlantic aircraft and vessels. They would just have to dig in, hope for the best and continue to send intelligence to the High Command.

Huahin wishes to enquire about the position of Cotland, and TOA in this war.
OOC - Do you have big TOA meetings, because I was thinking of sending an envoy to speak at one on behalf of Huahin.

[OOC: The TOA meets on a regular basis in a secret location. Due to the secrecy of said location, it needs to remain secret. However, I can relay a message from Huahin to the rest of the TOA if you so wish. Please send it to me on e-mail (kulgutt_87@hotmail.com) or via TG and I'll pass it on.

As for the TOA's stance on this conflict, I believe we're pretty much neutral unless one of the member nations fall under attack from either of the sides due to the TOA charter: "If one nation is attacked we are all attacked."]

"Dwelidelfian fleet, this is Djevel one. We are a helicopter belonging to the Royal Cottish Navy. We are in international waters and intend to fly where ever we see fit. We are no threat to your fleet, nor do we intend to fly closer to your fleet. Any attempts of stopping us from continuing along our route will be seen upon as an act of aggression against the Realm of Cotland. Djevel One out."

"No problom. Carry on."

As the 1st fleet got 100 miles away from dweladelfian shore the coast guard cutters and F-205s broke off heading back to the main land. The Fleet passed the cape of good hope and continued into the indian Ocean.

0600 - Huahinian forces leave the naval bases on Banks Island with their destination being the Chukchi Sea.

This was to be the largest Huahinian military operation to date. This would be a first strike mission, followed by an immediate return to Huahin, before an even bigger strike. It involved many sailors, and aircrew, some of which would never return home, and they would be eternally missed.

Once the fleet reached the middile of the Indian Ocean they made a full stop. They waited for orders to move on from the High Command.

Joseph Pershing Bell walked onto the bridge of the DPS-Imperium Lord. "Admiral on the bridge." Cryed out a Helmsmen. Captain Joshua adressed the Admiral. "Sir we have arived at our designated postion in the Indian Ocean." "Very good, any word from high command yet?" "No sir. they've told us to hold postion here until further orders." "Good keep me informed." "Aye Sir."

Admiral Joseph walk to a com point on the bridge. "Cptain Hering. I want you to send out a Scout plane to do a search of whats ahead in a 100 mile perimeter." "Yes Sir."

Aboard on of the Vega Class Super Carriers a EA-6B Prowler was fit to the carrier catapult. A light on the carrier deck turned green and the plane soared up into the sky.

Air Defense Outpost CCVI, Twenty Miles From Squornian-Doomani Border

Cornicen Varus Herius and the rest of the RADAR operators at the command station had been well aware of the strike against Squornshelous in advance. As a result, all air defenses had been on highest alert. Air Defense Outpost CCVI was actualy a sub-surface control station directly linked to numerous systems, including six mobile phased array RADARs, several land-based infrared search and track systems, and a datalink to a nearby AWACS aircraft.

Cornicen Herius had under his command III Sector, the area closest to the border. Within that area were two ACT-220B Apostle surface-to-air missile batteries, twenty or so DM.VIIL.AD Velite low-level air defense vehicles (essentialy armored cars equiped with a single seven-barreled 15.7mm gattling gun and eight ACT-97 MANPADS), and most importantly for the coming engagement, six Triarius VI air defense vehicles, with their quad 37mm chain guns and numerous surface to air missiles.

He would be able to protect all of his individual weapons assets by making use of fiber-optic datalinks to external tracking systems, meaning the Squornians would have one hell of a time trying to locate the SAMs and Tripple-A themselves.

Herius' control station was rather technologically advanced, consisting of numerous LCD monitors, several control panels, and an advanced audio warning system. The RADAR scope was fully digital, and infrared data was also displayed. A composite display took data from all systems, ranging from land based and AWACS RADAR to LIDAR/LADAR systems to IRST systems and created a three-dimensional map of the sector, displaying all friendly and hostile units.

However, his Apostle missiles, because of their extreme range (220 miles), could be requisitioned by the AWACS aircraft to engage enemy aircraft outside of his sector.

This would soon become evident as his Apostle batteries lit up by themselves and began to launch missiles at some distant, unseen target. These targets were the Squornian fighters that had managed to scramble and were now on their way to engage the Imperial Airforce. Within seconds, his entire active supply of Apostles was completely spent, and some poor bastard was now trying to get the hell of of the way of an incoming missile.

Herius was now worried. He wasn't worried about defeat or death. He was worried that the enemy airforce would be wiped out before he got to blow anything up!

That worry was soon quashed when his audio warning system let out an ear-kirdling ping, causing Herius to look towards his composite display. Six red-colored aircraft were attempting to penetrate his airspace at low altitude. He wouldn't have that!

Beneath the enemy aircraft's moving symbol was numerous data in writing: airspeed, altitude, type, possible payloads. If he wanted he could pull up any known specs on the aircraft type, but he didn't need to. Instead he sat back and watched as the nearest battery of Triarii began to open up on the formation.

Before the enemy aircraft even came within sight of the carefully camoflaged vehicles, they began firing off Pilum missiles. The enemy aircraft could have been maneuvering through mountains and canyons, but it would have been to no avail. Imperial sensor coverage was absolute; there was not a single area that was not watched. If the enemy aircraft were on sensors, the missiles would maneuver as nessessary to engage them. They would fly over hills, in between cliff faces. Whatever was nessessary to make a kill.

Some of the fighter-bombers- MiG-27s in this case -were unfortunate enough to fly over a Velite air defense vehicle, which would unload with its smaller ACT-97 missiles and its own 15.7mm gattling gun.

Of course, the best part was yet to come. The enemy aircraft (the ones that were still alive, at this stage, although there were probably a few still trying to evade the ever persistant missiles) began to close to cannon range of the Triarii. An automated firing seqeunce swung into action, bringing each of the vehicles' quad 37mm chain guns to bear against the enemy fighter-bombers. T

The skies were quickly filled with hundreds of 37mm AHEAD rounds, each individual round more than capable of totally destroying the airframe of the enemy MiGs, F-111s, and attack helicopters.

The AHEAD rounds were essentialy massive buckshot rounds designed to detonate at a certain range from the enemy aircraft, flining thousands of tungsten needles towards it. Herius watched on with some degree of amusement, eager to see the results of this little engagement...

All along the border this scene was repeated: as enemy fighter-bombers and helicopters began to penetrate Imperial airspace, they came under heavy fire from SAMs and Tripple-A, all superbly guided by numerous systems, not all that the Squornians would be able to detect.

As mentioned before, with the scrambling of enemy interceptors, hundreds of Apostle missile launchers (actualy, they were sub-surface vertical launch systems, to be precise) arrayed along the border- eight-hundred and fifty individual launchers to be exact - swung into action. The missiles, aided by friendly AWACS aircraft, would be launched at whatever fighters the enemy had been able to scramble.

They were shooting from Doomani soil into Squornian airspace from 220 miles away from the enemy aircraft. The missiles, with a top speed of mach four and their own 3D thrust vectoring systems, would initialy find their targets by making use of the AWACS aircraft. Once they got within terminal range, they would use their own internal IR, electro-optical, RADAR, LIDAR, and LADAR systems to home in on the enemy fighters. It was most likely going to be a repeat of the opening volley. Roughly five hundred missiles were launched, making for two to three missiles for each enemy fighter. More than enough.

As if that wasn't enough, the Aquila air superiority fighters escorting the incoming Malleus bombers swung into action against the enemy's fighters, each launching a single medium range AAM from a range of 120 miles, using the same guidance criteria as before.

Finally, the bombers were in the clear to commence destruction of the Squornian army. They proceeded to dump fifty-five million kilograms of TV-guided, laser-guided, GPS guided (although any bomb could be guided via datalink if it was found to be needed), and unguided ordnance over the next half hour. Bunker busters were used liberally on enemy fortifications, cluster munitions- both anti-armor and personel and soft targets -were dispensed liberally over troop concentrations. 500lb, 1000lb, and 2000lb guided bombs were used for just about everything, including the surviving enemy surface to air missiles. Napalm and fuel air explosives were also dispensed just about everywhere to turn the enemy's line into a raging inferno. Nearby forests were seen as areas capable of harboring enemy resistance, and so those were hit with tons of napalm and FAE simply to get rid of them. The bombers, operating at 80,000 feet, were out of the enemy's SA-11 and SA-13 batteries' range. The fighters, at 65,000 feet, were barely out of the SA-11 missiles' range.

As if that weren't enough, the only RADAR the enemy possesed that was even remotely capable of picking up these extremely stealthy aircraft had been destroyed in the previous missile strike.

In order to totally put the enemy's eyes out, so to speak, six more AC-157 missiles were launched at the two surviving enemy AWACS birds. This took part at roughly the same time at the first Apostle missiles were launched.

Finally, to add insult to injury, another volley of cruise missiles was launched at the airfields that were now in the process of being repaired to catch their construction crews with their pants down and hopefully totally put them out of action. Meanwhile, satelites began scouting out the secondary airfields under construction. Those would be priority targets in the next strike.

Soon the order for the meticulously concealed legions arrayed along the border to advance across would be given, and the ground war would begin in earnest. Meanwhile, twenty legions of the VI, VIII, and XII Armies were being prepared to be shipped to the front to join the forces that were to be going across soon to pick up on their attack.

Finally, XII Armada began to steam out of Doomani waters, heading north. Ahead of them would be a sizable force of submarines, 100-strong. These would act as a picket force against any enemy units that attempted to intercept the Armada. Meanwhile, a substantial mobile ASW perimeter was established around the fleet, consisting of hundreds of SONAR buoys at varrying depths. They would not be caught off-guard.

However, the day was far from won. That was evident from the enemy's effective counter-strike.

The Squornians' initial response, in the form of 1100+ conventional MIRVs, was one that nearly threw the High Command into a frenzy. The missile launched closest to Imperial territory were generally intercepted by long-range Angelus surface-to-air missiles before their MIRVs were even able to detach. However, the missiles launched further away were far more fortunate.

Their MIRVs would have the oppurtunity to detach, but would be met with a barrage of ACT-235 missiles. These weapons would put themselves on a collision course with the incoming MIRVs, and their multiple warheads would detach, allowing them to engage an IRBM's entire payload.

Of course, they, like any weapon system, were far from perfect. As a result, 145 MIRVs were able to penetrate the Imperial missile defense network, thanks mostly to the Squornian's choice of a shallow launch.

In a last-ditch attempt, surface-to-air missiles were launched to intercept the falling MIRVs, but to little avail. Only 37 more were shot down, allowing for over 100 to strike their targets.

The port facilities at Vladiviostock were the hardest hit, with most of its facilities totally destroyed and a good deal of its workers killed and wounded. Missiles hitting along the border were much fewer in number, but none the less, they did destroy twelve bunkers (although the bunkers that the satelites could actualy see were generally decoys).

Multiple airbases were also hit, with surface facilities totally obliterated in some of them. However, fuel, ammunition, and hangar facilities were actualy sub-surface, and so they managed to escape being completely destroyed. Construction workers would immediately swing into action cleaning up the mess and repairing runways in preparation for any returning aircraft.

Meanwhile, Huahinese (sp?) cruise missiles were detected from rather far out by Imperial AWACS aircraft and land-based RADAR. Because the enemy missiles had now been detected and were subsonic, they were sitting ducks. Hundreds of Apostle-C missiles were launched at the missiles once they were 150 miles out. Surviving missiles closing the 80 mile gap were then mopped by Pilum-D missiles. In total, over 1,000 surface-to-air missiles (optimised for engaging sea-skimming and other missile threats) were expended on the enemy's incoming cruise missiles.

It was probably too much, there wasn't anything left for the shore-based CIWS to kill.

Skys over Tyrandis Australia

A SENIOR CROWN SR-71 flew over high in the skys cruising at Mach 3.2. "High Command this is Halo Flight nearing Australian coast, over." "Very good Halo flight proceed with objective." The SR-71 flew over the Auzi coast line taking aireal pictures of any defenses that Tyrandis troops on the ground may have. "Beginning with sector one, over." The large [ASARS-I] servalience cameras began to take pictures of the coastline. The piolit viewed these pictures on his screen and then sent them back to the High Command. "Halo flight we are receiving the first wave of pictures proceed to sector 2."

With the approval of the legislature and growing public support, the Eastasian Armed Forces began building up on the Doomani border.

Almost three-quarters of a million personnel began deploying to the border regions of Manchuria and Mongolia, with airbases throughout the northern states being upgraded to the necessary alert status. Anti-air and anti-missile defences were constantly checked and rechecked, with all data being streamed to Eastasian Central Command in Beijing as well as local command units.

Central Command had carried out a number of possible simulations, taking into consideration the resistance encountered by Pacifinesian forces as well as possible advances by said forces. The fighting would most likely be intense, and there was always the possibility of another front being opened up by other KAIN members.

To this end, the southern UER territories also began preparations. The threatened southern border was almost entirely mountainous, but this did not breed complacency. Special forces were on hand for deployment to chokepoints and passes, while the southern airforce facilities stepped up patrolling flights.

The Eastasian propaganda machine went into overdrive. The populace were told that war was not inevitable, and that there was still a chance for peace if it was desired. However, in the event of war, the UER would be at war with powers that wished the destruction of the great Republic. The populace was told that their enemies would undoubtedly try to divide the UER between themselves in an attempt to further their own imperialism; passing mentions were given to the other Pacifinesian members, but the propaganda focused mainly on the greatness of the Eastasian state and the threat posed to it by aggressive empires.

That being said, the Foreign Ministry sent communiques to their potential foes. The UER called for a ceasefire, one which the UER would enforce within Pacifinesia's membership. The ceasefire would be the precursor to negotiations designed to resolve the situation, as the UER wished to see peace restored to Asia and the Pacific as quickly as possible.

OOC: You cannot claim that you entered my airspace without being attacked. Considering, after all, you'd have to fly several thousand miles from bases in Antarctica in order to get there, without being spotted.

[Interception of Dweladelfian Surveillance Aircraft]

News of the Arctic Imperium's entry into Pacifinesia was met with minor annoyance within the Tyrandisan military command. As a result, TNIA intelligence assets, primarily from SATINT data, kept a consistent watch on the deployment the Dweladelfians were sending into the Pacific theater of war. When the enormous heat signature of the DP Blackbird was detected by routine TEAL RUBY orbital infrared scans, all due preparations were made to eliminate it. To this end, the massive OTH-B network embedded in Tyrandisan Australia illuminated the incoming spy aircraft over 2,400 miles before they entered Tyrandisan airspace. It was not at all that difficult - the ancient SR-71 design was in no way stealthy. As a result, strategic air defense platforms were well prepared to kill the plane before it transmitted any sort of information regarding the Militaristic Federation's force deployments. One Element of two SSF-625 "Condor" Hypersonic Interceptors, based off Perth, was scrambled to engage within minutes of the DP aircraft's initial sighting, one of the innumerable groups flying Combat Air Patrols since the beginning of Pacifinesia-Federation hostilities. The Condor was an interesting aircraft - acquired from Kriegzimmer Corp., it was the only foreign warplane fielded in the Tyrandis Imperial Air Force's inventories. For sheer performance, however, it was utterly unmatched. The wisdom of Tyrandis's investment into the aircraft would be tested this day - it was expected to easily stop the Dweladelfian reconnaissance flight, considering the Condor's outstanding performance in evaluation trials.

Considering that the SR-71 was utterly defenseless, as analysis of the RADAR return indicated, the pair of SSF-625 Condors simply shot towards their prey. Boosted by the immense power of their Lu-67j-N13 ramjet/turbofan hybrid engines to a speed of slightly under five times the speed of sound and an altitude of over one hundred and twenty thousand feet, the Condors screamed at blazing speeds towards the inbound bogey. Marked not only by the Tyrandisan ground-based network, the Condors began tracking the SR-71 via its massive AESA RADAR at a range of three hundred kilometers. Each Condor was armed with only four ATAIM-5 BVRAAMs, but this was more than enough to bring down the spy plane. In the element's first pass over the Dweladelfian aircraft, each SSF-625 ejected one pair of ATAIM-5s, which screamed towards the target at a speed of Mach 3.7. This made for four different missiles launched, all of which were fitted with the latest in sensor and control technology to ensure a kill. Bleeding off speed and fuel, the Condor flight split off again to make a second slashing attack on the Blackbird, in the highly unlikely event that the first set of missiles failed to hit their mark. On the ground, meanwhile, P.746.F launchers were armed from their stand-by positions, should any further Pacifinesian air deployment be observed, although their independent fire control RADARs were turned off to ensure absolute secrecy as to their positions. Simply put, the Dweladelfian aircraft was doomed by any standard.

OOC: Tyrandis, you still haven't posted losses for the rod attack.

IC: The War Council sent a heavily encrypted order to Expeditionary Force Australia, ordering the invasion of Tyrandisan Australia. Expeditionary Force Australia consisted of 350,000 troops and 8,500 vehicles. The expeditionary force would be the initial wave of the northern pincer in Australia.

500 PX-607 Pelican Wing-in-Ground (WIG) transports would be necessary to carry the invasion force to landing sites in Australia. Each Pelican was a massive craft, with a wingspan of 551 meters. This behemoth of the skies could carry 700 troops and 17 MBT-sized vehicles. They could also refuel the other WIG craft of the attack force. Thanks to the wing-in-ground effect, it could travel at speeds of up to 350 mph just a few meters off the ocean's surface.

100 PX-606 Hippocampus WIG craft would protect the fleet from any submarines that tried to interfere with the mission. Each of these craft were loaded with sonar buoys and depth charges, 120 to be precise, and could fly at up to 200 mph just above the ocean surface.

200 PX-602 Tartaros WIG battlecraft also served as escorts to the fleet. Each Tartaros carried four 17-inch guns, sixteen Sea Sparrow missiles, 24 supercavitating torpedoes, and numerous CIWS.

Finally, 400 PX-605 Harpy WIGs rounded out the attack force. The Harpies were small, fast, extremely-low flying units, each equipped with six anti-shipping missiles, making them very useful at harassing shipping.

Dweladelfian Fleet

Admiral Pershing hangs up the phone and with Great Spirit strides up to the bridge of the Imperium Lord. "Capitan, I just got the word to move out." The Capitan turns around to signal to the helms man to move out. "Full ahead full!!" He barks out. The giant ship raised anchor and began to heave forward. A signal was also sent out to the rest of the fleet. In less than a minute the fleet was on its way to war.

After the embark of the fleet Admiral Pershing walk down stares to the War room. The Grant class Command dreadnought was primarily built to command forces of the imperium in the field. It had a Hugh war room and offices for the generals and admirals. "Gentlemen we are on our way." General John Serif was bending over the virtual map on a table. "Are your troops ready general?" "They're a bit sea sick, but ok." "Well we are almost there. Let’s just hope they won’t vomit when there landing."

The Dweladelfian fleet was now 100 miles away from Exmouth Australia. Would the Dweladelfian Forces prevail over the Tyrandis Empire? Only Time will tell.

Terrnorian Australia

The 2nd and 5th Cargo Wing landed on an air strip in the hot and sunny Australian desert. Most of the Dweladlefian Troops were sweating more then they had for there entire life’s being from Antarctica was it is normally cold. Never the less The Dweladelfians were here on a mission. To free tyrandis controlled Australia. The 2nd Army was lead by General 5 Star Hugh Jacob Victor a veteran of Dweladelifas revolution was an experienced leader in the arts of war. The Dweladelfians awaited orders to move out to attack Tyrandis.

The Kreynorian force was carefully staying out of missile range from the Tyrandisan fleet. In any case, they could easily outrun the ships, with the fleet moving at 200 mph. The fleet would stop at Darwin in Terronian-held Australia, and the troops would launch an attack against the northern portion of Queensland, a main target being the city of Broome, second largest in Western Australia to Perth.

Off the Australian Coastline.

On the beach near Port Hebland the Dweladelfian fleet came into view. The first ships to come close were the Knife Class Amphibious Assault Carriers. On the decks of these carriers launched 34 F-35Bs. This first wave was to gain air superiority. They skimmed along the surface of the water and then climed to a height of 500 feet. They patrolled the coastline to make sure everything was clear. Then they signaled back to the carriers. "Knife this is armadillo flight all is clear." Once that was received the AH-64 Apaches began to head for the shore. They patrolled to make sure all was clear on the beach and the dunes. On the carrier the first wave of troops began to board there transport choppers.

Simpson Deasert

The sun was high over head as the 2nd army was given the signal to attack. The Devils Advocate MBTs screamed across the boarder like a rush of wild horses. AH-64 Apaches followed them to give air superiority. HMMVES began also to rush across the boarder carrying troops. Nothing would stop the Dweladelfian army.

The Squornshelan fighter/bomber strike was in trouble. The older aircraft, many of which had been top of the line fighters several decades ago, were now outclassed and relegated to being quick moving ordnance delivery systems. However, the extreme advances in detection technology had just about made them obsolete for this task as well. In the hilly, forested terrain of Siberia, the low flying planes probably could have defeated conventional RADAR. Even against the complex and ultra-modern setup the Doomani had in place, they probably would have penetrated provided there had been some distractions run by other elements of the Squornshelan force. However, 100 planes going in alone with no jamming assistance or diversions was really just a desperation ploy to buy some time for Squornshelous.

The first to begin falling were the older FB-111’s and the small number of positively ancient F-4 Phantoms. They simply weren’t able to perform well enough to evade the incoming Pilum missiles. The first group hit was a flight of two F-4’s. The first took a missile across the left wing and fell to the ground out of control. The second evaded a missile, but banked too hard and crashed into a hillside.

The more modern MiG-27’s had slightly better luck, but the very difficult task of shaking the missiles, near impossible really, was by no means easy for them. Many of the MiG’s were downed by the amazingly persistent missiles, which seemed to come from all directions and make truly ridiculous maneuvers to intercept the planes.

The first bit of positive action taken was when a flight of two MiG 27’s flew directly over a Doomani air defense vehicle. The lead plane took two ACT-97 missiles and erupted in a ball of flames. The second plane, with a split second to react, dropped a 500 lb TV-guided bomb and pulled away at a sharp angle, dropping flares and chaff in its wake.

As the remaining aircraft closed with the air defense stations, they were almost within range of really striking back at their attackers. At that moment, the first AHEAD round detonated less than 10 meters from one of the planes. Surprisingly, the vehicle didn’t explode, but simply seemed to disintegrate, as it lost airframe integrity in several places.

The squadron commander for the six remaining planes coming in at that particular airbase issued an order to begin constant evasive maneuvers to throw off the aim of the projectiles. It was a good idea, but the time it took to give the order cost him his life, as dozens of tungsten needles tore through his aircraft. The remaining planes launched ARM’s at the radar sources they were able to detect as their radio waves washed over the squadron. The missiles were pretty much on their own to home in on the powerful radar signals. Hopefully, the operators would not have enough time to react to the missiles launched from so close.

They continued toward the station, and two more planes went down to the AHEAD rounds, while all of the others took minor damage from the tungsten needles. When it came down to the actual strike, only three planes remained to drop their payloads over the base. Two of those were destroyed shortly after, with only one safely returning to Squornshelan airspace.

This result was typical of the aircraft sent out, with heavier casualties among the older aircraft and higher survival rates among the more modern MiG-27’s. In total, 31 of the 100 aircraft reached their targets, and just 15 returned from the raid.

The Squornshelan fighters were informed by the two AWACS aircraft of incoming missiles that had been detected. The exact number and vectors were unknown because of the lack of RADAR coverage, but the fact that some had been launched suggested that many more were also on the way. A few sketchy RADAR signatures at high altitude were also detected.

The fighters were directed upward toward the incoming Doomani, and soon, they were able to pick out faint signals on their own RADAR sets. Soon after that, they detected the Doomani missile launch. Within a few seconds, they fired their own barrage: 400 R-77M2 AAM’s, improved with LIDAR and IR seeking systems to be less likely to be countered and with a range of over 100 miles; they would be something for the Doomani to think about other than pumping more missiles into Squornshelan forces. The fighters continued on towards the enemy formation. The F-22’s in the formation focused their AN/APG-77 RADAR sets on the incoming missiles, focusing their emissions to overload the missiles sensor systems. This would hopefully get enough of them through to have a shot at disrupting the bomber formation with their before the Apostle missiles arrived.

What SA-13 launch vehicles were in range also opened up on the Doomani fighters.

The AWACS aircraft were not so fortunate. Their RADAR, while much more powerful than that used by the F-22’s, could not be modulated in the same way, and both went down, hit by multiple missiles.

The bomber attack proved most effective where anti-armor cluster munitions were used. The moving Squornshelous forces proved difficult to hit precisely with larger munitions, although considerable damage was done to border fortifications and fixed emplacements. The anti-personnel munitions were effective where they found regular infantry, but the Squornshelan army’s high percentage of mechanized infantry, often with troops still riding in APC’s and other armored vehicles saved it from major destruction of troops. However, the cluster bombs, while often not enough to destroy a tank or APC outright, were powerful enough to immobilize, or handicap the vehicles, weakening them in preparation for the Doomani ground assault. Of course some of the vehicles hit were completely destroyed, and there were hundreds of casualties, debilitating and otherwise. But the Squornshelan army was in no way crippled. Serious damage had been done to its defensive positions, but with troops rolling forward, that was not a huge problem at this time. The loss of the forests was also not a crushing blow, as the great majority of Squornshelan units could not traverse them effectively without leaving their APC’s and vehicles.

At the airbases being repaired, the casualty rate among construction crews was fairly high. Many of the surface structures still standing were leveled, and most of the aircraft that had been undamaged by the previous strike were either destroyed or damaged. There were still a few that could be repaired back to health, but at the moment they had no useable runways to take off from. The airbases would be repaired, but personnel, and more importantly, time had been lost.

Deeper within Squornshelous, Armand Tarnstrom, the theatre commander looked on the satellite views he still had after the initial Doomani strike. Several military satellites had been redirected to target the area with their cameras and, unbeknownst to the rest of the world, commercial Squornshelan satellites had been commandeered for military use. He saw the Doomani legions beginning to roll forward toward his force and began what would be a series of phone calls. The first ordered a mixed strike group of B-1B and Tu-22M3 bombers to be prepared for launch in Northern Squornshelous. His next order prepped three squadrons of B-52H’s based in Kamchatka and four of B-2 Spirits in Nome, Alaska. He also ordered the transfer of several squadrons of fighters and other aircraft across the Bering Strait, including a large group of EF-111 electronic warfare aircraft. Another call sent the southern portion of the Squornshelan Navy on high alert, due to satellite pictures of the Doomani fleet moving northward. The Squornshelan wolfpack, over 200 strong, began moving slowly down past Sakhalin to meet them.

Finally he made one last call. He waited as the phone rang once, and then was picked up. A voice in Anchorage, Alaska spoke one word.
“Yes?”
“This is General Tarnstrom.”
“I’ll put you through to him.”
Tarnstrom waited through one more ring, and another voice asked him.
“What is it?”
“Sir,” began Tarnstrom, “the tactical situation in Siberia is not good. The enemy has achieved air superiority and is beginning their advance. Their forces, while somewhat smaller than ours, are slightly better equipped. If nothing as done about this, we stand to lose a lot of Squornshelan soldiers.”
“What do you want me to do about it.”
“Sir, I request ROE Level One clearance.”
A pause met this statement, and then the voice spoke, quieter this time.
“Has it come to that?”
“I believe it will very soon sir.”
A weary sigh came over the line, followed by one sentence.
“Very well, I declare ROE Level One with respect to the Siberian conflict.”
“Yes sir.”
The man on the other end hung up and Tarnstrom delicately replaced the phone on its receiver.

The fighter bombers that actualy did reach their targets managed to create quite a bit of havoc with the vulnerable Imperial RADAR sites. Because the ARMs were released at such a close range, the RADAR vehicles had literally no time to react. Virtually every one of the ARMs found their target. However, this did not really put a damper in Imperial plans.

Those were only a few out of many RADARs dotting the border on the ground. Not to mention none of the AWACS aircraft had come even close to being shot down.

The Imperium's low altitude air defense network had certainly proved its worth here, shooting down 85% of enemy aircraft, 69% of which didn't even reach their targets. It was more or less a massacre. And there were now infidels on Imperial soil.

The ninety or so surviving Squornshelan airmen that had ejected over Doomani territory were now in some serious trouble. Patrols of Imperial Guardsmen set out in search of them, searching meticulously through the underbrush for their prey. These men were hardened outdoorsmen and hunters, they knew what they were doing here.

With their bayonets fixed to their old DR-78 battle rifles, they proceeded to scour the areas they spotted enemy pilots ejecting in. There would be no escape.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, the air battle went off without a hitch for the Imperial Airforce. The return fire of the enemy fighters provoked the Aquilas to break formation and split off into different directions. This alone was enough to throw off most of the missiles due to the sheer stealthiness of the aircraft. However, a few weren't so lucky.

EDARS, the Aquila's active countermeasure system, went to work, jamming the incoming missiles as nessessary, using its UV laser dazzler to overload their optics. For the most part this was successful. For some it wasn't, and EDARS began to release chaff and flare, but against LADAR and LIDAR this would be of little use.

A total of 38 Aquilas would be splashed by the enemy aircraft. These were seen as acceptable losses by the High Command, especialy since most of the pilots were able to get out alive over friendly territory.

Meanwhile, the missiles tracking the enemy Raptors had slight problems of their own. With the enemy's RADAR attempting to cook the sensors of some, datalink guidance took over for them. However, each Raptor would only be able to jam one missile at a time in this manner, and there were only 200 Raptors. There were a good 650 missiles coming at them at once...

More importantly, the last of the enemy AWACS aircraft had finally been splashed. There were now no enemy RADAR systems in theatre capable of interfering with the High Command's plans very significantly. Air superiority had officialy been attained by the Imperium Doomanum in the Siberian Theatre of Operations, for now...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Legatus Legionis Marcus Herius Quintus was the de facto commander-in-chief of Imperial operations in the Squornshelan theatre. He had under his command a good 200,000+ men on the ground. This included the Imperial Guardsmen assigned to defending the border itself, and so if he subtracted those numbers, he was left with 144,000 Legionaries and a whole crapload of tanks.

He had eight armored and mechanized legions under his command at this point, and more were on their way. Under his command, elements of Legions CCLXII-CCLXX began to move forward under the cover of of their own attack helicopters and airforce fighters.

The lead elements consisted of purely armored units with some mechanized support, the very tip of the spear being the cavalry scout units, the Alae of the Legions. These units consisted mainly of light Velite scout cars with their own infantry units riding within them. These would act as the screening force for the heavy armor, which followed closely behind.

This battle would be the baptism of fire for several new vehicles: The Testudo III infantry fighting vehicle, the MAD.IV Imperator main battle tank, the most important units of an armored or mechanized legion.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Centurion Gaius Vorenus was commander of the IV Mechanized Century, III Cohort, Legio CCLXIII. His orders were to advance on Squorshelan territory and engage any hostile forces along the way. The High Command wasn't taking any chances. They were going make sure everything in the path of its armies was totally destroyed.

He was riding unbuttoned in the commander's position of his MAD.IV Imperator tank, staring at the countryside in front of him while data was updated on his helmet-mountd heads up display.

On this display were terrain features, the position of his units and himself, where they thought the enemy was.

He had under his command eight Testudo III Infantry Fighting Vehicles, three Imperator tanks (not counting the one he was riding in), two Velite scout cars (which were riding ahead of his main force), a battery of tracked 120mm mortars, and a few Velites outfitted in the air defense role.

His force was basicly outfitted to take on any conceivable threat.

He had his unit divided with the mechanized infantry split off into two trenturii riding on his right and left flanks, the heavy armor taking of the center. The vehicles were riding in an echelon formation. His mortar tracks rode behind the main body while his air defense vehicles were intermingled throughout the main formation (behind the echelons as to not expose themselves to enemy fire), watching the skies.

In the immediate area was a pair of Corvus attack helicopters, able to provide quick close air support at a moment's notice.

The terrain was perfect for an armored engagement, mostly wide open, with some foothills to allow for some intense infantry combat. He sensed a battle was coming. How right he was.

The Squornshelan fighter aircraft were caught in the midst of a ridiculous number of missiles. They attempted to use countermeasures of various types, but there were just too many missiles. The RADAR jamming was very effective on the missiles' terminal approach, but they were simply vectored back in on the Squornshelans by AWACS. All of the Squornshelan aircraft were destroyed.

Major Petr Voronev of the Squornshelan Army looked around one last time before pulling the upper hatch of his Black Eagle MBT closed and latching it. Intellgience had come through that the enemy was advancing on his position and he placed his forces carefully to be ready for them. The enemy would be riding brand new tanks and APC's, better than the slightly older models his force was outfitted with, so he would just have to be smarter.

At his disposal were 4 other Black Eagle's, as well as 4 BTR-90's and 4 BMP-3's. He also had 3 ZSU-57-2 mobile AAA systems, one M6-A1 Bradley Linebacker and two M-998 HMMWVs. In addition to this, he had 3 A-3 Bullfrog LAV's, 1 HIMARS short range rocket artillery system and a group of infantry all this hardware was designed to support. 2 M109-A7 Paladin mobile howitzers waited several miles away to provide fire support when directed and 2 H-1A/M Firestorm helicopters were idling in forest clearings behind his position.

Voronev got his tanks hull down behind two different hilltops where they could sweep fire over the lower ground in front of them from two idfferent angles. The BMP-3s, being especially low profile vehicles, were also placed on the hilltops. The other APC's waited in the shelter of treellines and ridges to be ready to flank any force that attacked the position. Infantry was interspersed throughout the entire area. The AA vehicles were spaced along the line, sheltered behind more heavily armored vehicles, and the HIMARS system was in the rear. Two of the three LAV's were in camoflauged positions ahead of the main line, while the other waited in reserve.

"Burn
You will burn
You will burn in hell, yeah you'll burn in hell
For your sins"
0030:Huahinian units based in the Chukchi Sea were assembled, and ready to strike Wrangel Island. Five hundred GR2s (RL - TSR 2) had flown over from Huahin to support this strike.
A thousand kilometres out from Wrangel Island, a flotilla emerged. 20 new Astute class Submarines and 50 older SeaWolf class submarines surfaced. The lead submarine, HNS Astute, issued the first order.
"This is Commander Stiles, fire at will, repeat, fire at will."
The night sky was lit up by the flashes of the StormShadow Naval missiles that flew from the Vertical Launch Systems. In all, 2500 missiles were fired from the SeaWolfs, whilst 760 missiles were fired from the Astutes. Targets were preselected as key military structures from satellite imagery obtained from Pacifinesian allies, and Huahinian Airships. The submarines then dived down deep to rejoin the main fleet.

"During the struggle
They will pull us down
But please, please
Let's use this chance
To turn things around
And tonight
We can truly say
Together we're invincible"
0035:The GR2s arrived over Wrangel Island, and unleashed their deadly cargo. They were to fire four thousand ALARMs at enemy air defences, before accelerating away at speeds just touching Mach 3. Squadron Leader Willis was leading 73 sqn in their attack. Flying in a group of four, in diamond formation, his fellow pilots were all former students of his. He had trained them on this aircraft from day one, and now they were percieved ready to fight. Flying less than ten feet away from him, he was shocked as a Tyrandis missile ripped through the sky in front of him slamming in to his tail aircraft, destroying it instantly.
"Evasive manouvers now! Let's get all these missiles to their targets, and get outta here!"
The three remaining aircraft in the his wing split up, but as they did, he looked in terror as the plane to the left of him burst in to flames from another missile. As they approached the island, they went to fire their missiles. His one remaining wing man fired off his eight missiles, but as Willis pressed the trigger to his dismay, only two missiles were fired. He tried in vain again and again to fire the missiles, but to no avail.
"Sir, let's go."
"You lead off, I'll be right behind you."
But in his mind, there was no doubt, he would finish his job, for if he didn't, further Huahinian pilots could die. He saw the target ever approaching. Using the computer he set the missiles to explode on proximity, even if they couldn't be fired. Full throttle. Mach 2, 2.3, 2.5, 2.7, 3.0, 3.1. All missiles exploded as he smashed in to the target at over 2000mph. He died for his country to save others. In all, 3,200 missiles made it through to their targets, although many more planes were destroyed on their way back.

"Destroy this City of Delusion
Break these walls down
I will fight
Justify my reasons
With your blame"
0045:Overhead, 1,000 B-1 Icarus bombers (look at storefront for info) overflew Wrangel Island, and dropped the latest Huahinian bomb. Essentially this was just a MOAB, but learning from their previous mistakes, it had been fitted with a Turbojet/Ramjet hybrid engine. As the missiles hurtled down from 100,000ft, the engine powered it faster, and as the speed hit Mach 1, the airflow cycle changed, and the ramjet kicked in, powering the missiles towards the earth at speeds approaching Mach 5. The key targets here were the main city on Wrangel Island. All communications were to be destroyed, to leave them in a state of chaos. Flying alongside the bombers were 2,000 drones (RL - D-12). These drones were armed with a 30mm cannon, as well as explosives, with the aim being to intercept any SAM missiles which which flew high enough to catch the bombers. If the cannon failed, then the drone would ram into the missiles forcing an explosion. Flying several thousand feet below the bombers, they gave the crews an added sense of safety in this highly dangerous mission. 2,000 drones took to the sky against Tyrandian forces.

Vorenus did not like his lack of intellegence of the local area one bit. Mounted to his vehicles were short range UAVs, capable of floating above the tanks and IFVs as to allow for targets to be spotted from a greater distance thanks to their inbuilt forward looking infrared an high-powered electro-optical siting systems.

These tiny craft, powered by electric motors, would be able to fly just one hundred feet up and barely be able to keep up with the swift vehicles. However, they were seen as indispensable assets to any unit. And they were small enough to stay off of the RADAR of the enemy anti-aircraft units and would be extremely difficult to spot against the sky thanks to their paintjob.

Vorenus halted his unit and the UAVs were launched, climbing to their proper altitude, and the formation continued.

The scout cars, surprisingly, lacked UAVs of their own, and as a result would lack the intellegence of their comrades. Of course, that could be solved, with all data regarding intellegence being transmitted to all local Imperial units. If the drones saw something, the Velites would to.

From their distance, the drones were able to sniff out the general areas hostile units were concealed in. Of course, due to their distance, they were incapable of seeing any of the howitzers. The forward deployed LAVs, while they had been detected, could not be identified as to vehicle type due to their camoflaging, and so the scout cars broke off and headed back to the main body, taking up position with the IFVs.

Meanwhile, the 120mm mortar tracks began to take up position within range of the enemy formation. The attack would be commencing momentarily, and so a pre-assault barrage would be needed.

The enemy's arrangement of forces would have been the death of a less-equipped force, simply because of the ease they would have been able to encircle them with. However, now that the positions of the enemy APCs had been detected, someone else was about to recieve a brutal flanking attack.

The mechanized Trenturii split off from the one another, one moving away from the two hills and more towards where the enemy had placed their APCs in the flanking position in the treeline, while the MBTs acted as if they were taking the bait and moved towards the two hills, two for each hill. They were expecting a barrage of ATGMs to greet them as soon as they got within firing position, as they knew enemy missiles would most likely be able to reach them. However, the guns on the Imperators outranged the main guns of the enemy tanks...

The IFV Trenturia with the MBTs further split itself in half into two vehicles. These tracks would, in turn, take up positions on some nearby hill and spew out their cargo of infantry while the tanks made initial contact and drew the fire of the other enemy units. The scout cars would also divide themselves up with the IFVs, acting as tank destroyers due to their deadly payload: LOSAT anti-tank missiles.

Then, with the IFVs, scout cars, and infantry in position, they would be able to totally sweep out any enemy infantry presense and take out hostile armor with anti-tank weapons from those hills.

To further their chances of going undetected, the vehicles would have their drones drop altitude so that they would remain out of site until just before they came out of hiding and opened fire.

The execution would be a tad bit more complicated than what was just described due to certain tricks Vorenus had up his sleeve, but those would all soon be known.

The first assault to commence would actualy be against the enemy LAVs by the tanks. If they were lucky, this would prompt the enemy to pull out of their dug in position and assist, or, better yet, reveal the positions of any hidden artillery by firing, thus opening them up for swift retribution.

Only one tank would be taking part in this assault due to the fear of the enemy HIMARS MLRS (which, by the way, isn't a short range MRL, it has the same range as the M-270, it's just on a wheeled chassis rather than a tracked one). With only two LAVs to worry about, the tank's best bet would be to eliminate the two vehicles before they had a chance to call for support.

That would mean a HEAT round from its long-chambered 125mm ETC cannon and a burst from its 23x312mm chaingun in rapid succession. With their intense training, an Imperial tanker was fully capable of destroying two targets in rapid succession in this manner, destroying both in a second's time, and close to contact as quickly as possible while suppresing hostile infantry to prevent enemy artillery from getting a bead on him.

If that went well, and the third LAV was eliminated in a timely manner, the formation would continue and move into position to prepare for their assault on the hill and the APCs. The first assault from there would be against the APCs. If Vorenus was correct, this would prompt a response from the units dug in on the hill. If that happened, the assault would begin as soon as those units began to pull from their positions.

Meanwhile, his mortar tracks would have dropped the hurt right down on top of the enemy HIMARS as soon as they were in range. The presence of enemy attack helicopters and M-109s was as yet unknown, but Vorenus' two helicopters stayed in reserve, moving up with the formation and making sure to keep out of site. They would be employed as nessessary.

Communique to All Pacific Nations

The Empire has recently purchased the island of Nauru from the United Federation of Eastasia. The Empire will be sending a convoy fleet of merchant ships, escorted by destroyers, frigates, and other associated shipping from Hawaii and Easter Island to the small island. We would appreciate knowing what routes are the safest to pass through. We remain neutral in this situation and we will not, under any circumstance, block either side during this war. The Empire wishes that no harm come to its convoy or the island of Nauru during this time.

Open Communique to Tyrandis and Doomingsland

This message is on behalf of the Pacifinesia United Alliance. Various members of our alliance have been in an unfortunate state of war with you. This conflict was instigated by Azimeth and Huahin, neither of which exists as an organized state any longer. The war we are fighting is pointless, and Pacifinesia seeks a return to peace in the Pacific and in the other theaters of war. Let our nations now have an unconditional peace, a peace where no demands are made by either side, a lasting peace. Let us allow all military units operating in enemy territory free and unmolested passage out of said territory; let us allow trade and travel to resume as normal; let all foreign nationals detained or deported as a result of this war be allowed to return to the home of their wishing. Let us forgive, and let us forget, and let us create peace eternal.

Signed,
The Nations of the Pacifinesia United Alliance.

The commander of one of the A-3 LAV's scanned the horizon and treelines along the area he had been assigned to watch. Further down the Squornshelan line, but also out ahead of it. Another LAV did the same thing. The commander lifted his binoculars to peer more closely at a small copse of trees, and then let them rest against his chest again: nothing. The report that satellites had detected enemy units in the area had been vague, and not specific about the exact location or course of those units, so he and his crew had been set out in front of the line to keep watch. Kind of ironic, he though, that the vehicle with the lightest armor gets put out in the front of the line.

He had barely finished the thought when he saw movement at the edge of a line of trees off to his right, toward the center of the line. He moved the binoculars to his face and barely had time to center them on the tank when it's main gun belched fire. He ducked into the turret grasping at the radio.
"Sierra 1 to Tango 1, enemy tank. . ."
He was cut off by the rattle of bullets striking his vehicle. Depending on the angle at which they hit, some richochetted off of the Bullfrog's armor, and some punched through. His radio set went dead, as a bullet passed through it, just missing the commander.
"Get us out of here!"
The vehicle sat, motionless; the driver had been hit by several rounds, and wasn't going to be driving anything anymore. One of the vehicle's two gunners had also been killed. The other had been hit in the leg, and was slowly bleeding to death, but had enough strength for one last action. He swung his BGM-71E TOW missile launcher around to target the enemy tank and pulled the trigger. In one last action, the commander pulled a flaregun out of his belt, and fired it up through the open hatch.

Major Voronev had very little to work with at this point. The quick transmission had alerted him to the prescence of an enemy tank in the area, but he didn't know exactly where it was. He was unable to contact his scouts after that transmission, and he had to assume that they had been destroyed. He radioed his artillery units to make sure they were prepped for immediate firing. Then he gave orders to the squad or two of infantry on the hilltop with his tank.

"Launch 3 UAV's, send them over the left, right and center of the area."
The Predator drones took off and soon, Voronev saw the single Imperator tank along with smoke rising from where his two LAV's had been. The central drone continued to circle in the general area, and discovered on other tank that could be seen from the air. The drone deployed to the right discovered something much more interesting, several of the new APC model the Doomani's had, Voronev couldn't remember the designation, and a few armored cars. Suddenly, he lost the feed from the drone.
"Damn."
Some of those cars must have been AA models.
He got on the radio again, this time to the MLRS.
"Give me a full scale strike on grid squares 21 and 22."
"Roger."
The MLRS aligned it's launch rack and rockets began to fly off, aimed for the area that the enemy APC's had been located in. In under a minute, all 12 of the M26 rockets had been fired and the vehicle folded up the launch rack in order to move to a new area. However, the delay caused by the necessity of a UAV launch had allowed the Doomani track motors to get set up to fire, and as the HIMARS started up to drive away, mortors began falling around it. None of the crew were killed, but shrapnel destroyed the motor, perforating the 5 ton truck's radiator, and the launch rack took a direct hit. The MLRS was out of this fight.

Voronev cursed again as he recieved this news, but was thankfull that he had gotten at least one barrage off. He diverted the one remaining drone (the one circling over the Imperators had been shot down in the meantime) to pinpoint the location of the track mortors and called in an artillery strike from his M-109's on their location.

Hopefully I am not making an error in judgment when I ask that if the two warring factions in this conflict are seeking peace than the Johannesburg Courts are a perfect place to conduct such talks. So far things had gone relatively smoothly for Vorenus. He had eliminated the enemy's screening force without incedent and had caused the enemy's local artillery to reveal itself, which allowed him to neutralize that. Of course, this in turn allowed the enemy to make use of the ace they had up their sleeve: long range M-109 howitzers.

Well, one ace up a sleeve gave way to another. The pair of GRI-37 attack helicopters each unleashed four Cornix missiles from their concealed location, making use of an external datalink to the M-109s' position which had been revealed by counter-battery RADAR.

The Cornix missiles had a range of over twenty-five miles and were more than capable of reaching a cieling that would prevent local enemy air defense vehicles from having any hope of intercepting them (not that you would even bother trying to shoot something like that down...), and would have reached their targets within seconds of their launch.

Upon nearing their targets, their own infrared, MMW, LIDAR/LADAR, and other sensors would allow for them to pinpoint the locations of the enemy howitzers (which would have had little time to get out of their original position, as the counter-strike was launched seconds after the first shells were fired, even if they did manage to move they would be spotted) and come straight down on top of them with the full force of their heavy HEAT warheads.

The helicopters, in the meantime, relocated to another well-hidden position. They still each had six Cornix missiles each and plenty of rocket and cannon ammunition in addition to air-to-air missiles.

Meanwhile, the enemy UAV that had pinpointed the location of the mortars (which had been totally obliterated by the M-109s) was engaged by one of the air defense vehicles. It wouldn't have lasted long against the hail of fire and missiles thrown at it.

The HIMARS strike had been less than spectacular. Rather than being hit by the much-feared ATACMS missiles that HIMARS was designed to carry, older M-26 missiles were used, the vaunted "steel rain". This would have been extremely effective against infantry or thin-skinned vehicles, but the infantry were all nice and safe inside of their Testudo III IFVs, which had more than enough protection to survive a direct hit from one of the many bomblets carried by the rockets.

However, one side effect of the strike was that it did manage to deal out some damage to external sensors. The lead tank that had taken out the scout detachment was hardest hit, losing his CITV, MMW, and LADAR. However, the tank was well protected enough that the gunner's FLIR, electro-optical, and magnification site remained intact due to their location in the turret. That tank's anti-missile countermeasures systems were damaged as well, with the laser dazzler being blown off the roof from a direct hit.

Radio systems remained intact on all of the vehicles thanks to their flat panel design that allowed for them to be well-armored enough to absorb the shrapnel. Other tanks and IFVs suffered sensor damage not quite as extensive as the lead track.

Damage had also been minimized thanks to the rapid movement of the formation.

Vorenus could now execute his plan without fear of reprisal from enemy artillery. The units moved into their proper positions as dictated by the plan and prepared to execute.

The tank unit moved into position between the two hills as the IFVs and scout cars began to move up the back slope. Before the tanks moved into the line of site of the enemy armor, their drones moved out from behind the hill and scanned the enemy's position. They quickly lazed their proper targets, and the tanks lurched forward, their main guns immediately belching fire upon their exiting cover.

Their targets had been acquired milliseconds before they exited cover, allowing for their main guns to be on target before the enemy saw them, which effectively gave them the first shot.

After the first rounds had gone down range, Gladius ATGMs were launched from behind the two hills by the IFVs, arching over the top of the hills and down on top of the enemy vehicles opposite. These missiles had also been aided by the drones in target acquisition. Their targets were the enemy tanks that had avoided being targetted by the first volley and the BMPs.

These missiles would have hit simultaniously with the shells, creating a brutal opening barrage.

The IFVs and scout cars floored it, quickly reaching the crests of the hills and dispensing their infantry squads, who proceeded to move to better positions under the cover of 100mm and 37mm cannon fire from the IFVs, and 15.7mm machinegun fire (which actualy was enough to puncture the armor the BMPs) from the scout cars. The vehicles would have been targetting enemy infantry squads in order to suppress them and any surviving BMPs and AA vehicles. If there were any tanks left, the Imperators would deal with them with their main guns or the IFVs would send another ATGM downrange.

Meanwhile, the helicopters moved quietly behind the formation, staying behind the hill. If there was any enemy air support planning to make a nuisance of itself, it would soon be greeted by a volley of short-range air-to-air missiles.

Finally, as this occured, the flanking maneuver commenced. The enemy APCs within the shelter of the treelines and ridges meant to flank the assaulting armor now had its own problem. Four Testudo IIIs began to move along the ridges containing the enemy APCs, moving rapidly and flinging lead as they moved by the enemy vehicles. Their 37mm cannons would have been more than enough to snuff out the APCs, but they also made use of their 100mm guns.

Before they began the dash, they had unloaded their infantry squads, a total of thirty-six Legionaries, which moved along side the IFVs, securing the areas that the IFVs cleared out. If enemy infantry were encountered, they would be dealt with by both the Imperial infantry and by the nearest IFV.

For now, the infantry's greatest concern was dealing with enemy anti-tank teams.

Voronev was unhappy. His defense was not going as well as he had hoped it would. Admittedly, it could have beena lot worse, but the loss of his artillery to the helicopters strike seconds ago was a serious blow. Russian military doctrine preached that "you cannot fight a battle without artillery."
Well now my artillery is gone, he thought.
He quickly started to issue orders.
All of his APC's disgorged their infantry cargo, and the troops spread out into good defensive positions, setting up machine gun and anti-tank rocket positions, as well as soldiers with SAM's spread out among the available cover. Snipers took positions in front of and behind the main body, and moratr teams moved back a few hundred yards to provide fire support.

No sooner had the infantry completed their deployment than four Imperator tanks burst from cover, firing as they came. Their 125mm HEAT rounds flew out at the five Black Eagle tanks waiting for them. At the same time, ATGM's flew forward aimed at the BMP-3's and the one tank not targeted by an Imperator. The one tank targeted by ATGM's was immediately destroyed, along with three of the BMP's. Of the remaining tanks, one was destroyed by a well placed shot, while the other three were saved by the angle of impact and their advanced ERA.

Now it was their turn to fire. The BMP fired an AT-14 Kornet ATGM, rated at 980 mm of penetration behind ERA, while the Black Eagles fired their enormous 152mm cannon. The muzzle blast was enough to burn away nearby vegitation, and created a pressure wave powerful enough to knock over anyone standing too close to the tank's barrel.

The tanks and BMP then turned their attention to the IFV's and scout cars advancing up the hill. Even the .50 cal machine guns on the Black Eagles, not to mention the BMP's 100mm cannon, should have been enough to penetrate their armor, although the IFV's would have been safe from the machin gun. To use the tanks' main cannon would have been overkill by a wide margin.

Voronev, whose tank was on of those to survive the initial attack, considered calling in his helicopters, but decided to hold onto them in case the enemy pulled out another surprise. We don't need them just yet, better to keep them a secret until absolutely necessary.

However, as enemy infantry began to pour onto the hilltop under cover of machin guns fire, Voronev did order his vehicles and troops to pull back from the hilltop. That would keep his tank from being pulled into a close quarters battle, and also impose the hill between him and the enemy MBTs.

On the flank the four Squornshelan BTR-90's found themselves facing vehicles better armed and armored than themselves. They would have to rely heavily on their infantry support to survive. Their first move was to fire four AT-5 Spandrel ATGM's, which were rated at 600 mm of penetration versus RHA. They had never been sufficiently combat tested against advanced ERA. The infantry nearby also fired on the attacking IFV's with RPG-7VR's and SRAW's, the former rated at 600mm of penetration behind ERA and the latter being a downward firing EFP that would test the thinner roof armor of enemy vehicles. The mortar teams also opened fire on the enemy vehicles and infantry with M224 60mm mortars, firing every two to three seconds.

OOC:Squorn, my Imperators used DU sabot rounds, not HEAT rounds, and the velocities I'd be getting from them would be more than enough to go through both the ERA and the armor behind that on the Black Eagle.

OOC: yes, but my tanks were hull down, and the Black Eagle's turret has an extremely low profile, almost flush with the hull, with no forward surface to hit. Sabot or no, your shots are hitting ERA at very poor angles for penetration.

OOC:Alright, I talked to a three others (including Layarteb) and they all said a Black Eagle's turret would not survive a hit from a 125mm ETC gun, even with ERA (which is where most of the thing's protection is, anyway, Russian tanks use only RHA for actual armor, meaning an Abrams or Leopard 2A6 has a better chance of surviving than the Black Eagle, even with the sloping)

[Statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs]

[Armis Exposcere Bellum]

The Militaristic Federation of Tyrandis graciously accepts Pacifinesia United's offers of a return to normalcy and antebellum status; however, while our state would more than happily accept this unconditional peace, we have certain caveats. Tyrandis, while agreeing wholeheartedly with Kreynoria in overall sentiment, demands the following to occur prior to a formal treaty of peace or non-aggression. Pacifinesia will issue an apology to the Federation for Huahinian and Azimethan aggression. Further, we must request the immediate expulsion of Terronian from the Pacifinesia alliance prior to any treaty of peace, for they have broken pre-existing agreements, even before official hostilities emerged between the Federation and your association. Tyrandis cannot in good faith negotiate knowing the treachery of the Grand Duchy of Terronian in matters past.

Our state eagerly awaits your reply.

As discussed in private channels, a binding treaty of non-aggression was signed between the Militaristic Federation and Grand Duchy. Their blatant violation of this pact during Tyrandis-Pacifinesia hostilities will not be forgiven under any circumstances. How can our state trust their proven record of duplicity?

[Statement of the Pacifinesia United Alliance]

While Terronian did indeed violate an agreement with Tyrandis, its action upheld the Pacifinesian charter, which requires members to come to the aid of one another in the event of war of defense. It must furthermore be noted that if Terronian is ejected from Pacifinesia, who else will they turn to? They might ally themselves with rogue states or terrorist organizations for protection. This may lead to a vendetta against you that could lead to further conflict. Perhaps a compromise can be reached. We will provide our guarantee that Terronian will not violate any more national agreements with your nation, unless such agreements conflict with the charter of the alliance. Should such a violation occur, Terronian would be expelled from the alliance and further punishment could be decided upon at the time of such violation, if one should ever occur.

[Statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs]

As stated previously, the agreement between Tyrandis and Terronian was a non-aggression pact. Not a trade deal to be broken on a whim, but a binding treaty that ensured mutual security. It was implied during the signing of the document that the NAP would supercede any and all other related treaties. Furthermore, the Charter of Pacifinesia United only provided for joint action in defensive war. By your own admission, the states of Azimeth and Huahin provoked this showdown. The Grand Duchy therefore had no obligation under the Charter to interfere with Tyrandisan operations. Thus, Terronian's actions in this past conflict have clearly marked their state as untrustworthy. The Militaristic Federation will not be party to any treaty with Pacifinesia as long as the Duchy remains a member. Their craven betrayal of our trust will never be forgotten.

Japanese Ultimatum

The Imperial House of Japan wishes to warn all parties involved that if a peace can not be worked out in the Australian Region that the Japanese Imperial Armed Forces in the region shall be opted to agress any foreign Military Units with-in classified sectors deemed Strategically Important for Imperial Defense of the Japanese Peoples.

This includes the newly established mock-state of the old Azimethian Holy Empire. We wish for Peace, but the only way to Peace is by War. Please, consider this as not a threat but a warning.
