Camp Lejune, the United States

"You get your ass moving, private!"
"Yes sir!"

Lieutenant Dick Champlain watched the hapless private struggling in drills...he would never make it in the Fightin' First. At least that was what boot camp was for...weeding out the poor individuals, perfection for the United States Army.
Champlain knew the war was inevitably to involve the US, it was merely a matter of time before either Japan or Germany made a move that would somehow draw the States into the Great War that was sweeping the world. And Dick knew that he would be in with the boys of his platoon, fighting for all that was held dear in this world, for freedom and survival. But for now, he was content with kicking around the future soldiers of America.

Pearl Harbour, 7th December 1941; early morning

Lt Ryu Nakamura of the Imperial airforce was flying low over the now blazing harbour in his Zero fighter.

spoting an AA placement he strafes it and silences the guns before turning inland heading for the airbase that he was to attack.

The American planes lined up in rows below him were an easy target but some had made it into the air.

Still the P-40's were no match for his steed...

Dieter Oust was cold. Freezing, really. It was always damned cold in Russia.

He had hardly survived his first week in the eastern front until precious cold-weather gear had been distributed to his unit, the 7th Wehrmacht Jäger Brigade.

Oust had been in Russia since June, when Operation Barbarossa began. He had been there for Minsk, had been in the third boat to cross the River Dnieper in the Ukraine only to have his Brigade transferred to the assault on Kiev.

He had been one of the rugged men, standing in the ashes of Kiev looking out over a city nearly destroyed. It hadn't ended with the buildings..

Soon after, a division from the SS had arrived and over the course of a week gathered more than 33,000 suspected Jews, herded them into the streets and slaughtered them. It had been grim business, it had been almost.. evil? Oust had shook his head at the time, knowing that it was wrong but also knowing that it was probably necessary in the greater scheme, in the future of his nation.

Soon after, it was Operation Typhoon, the advance on Moscow. Oust had watched Odessa bombed to ruin, had fought street-to-street for Sevastopol and had been able to see Moscow one clear day from a hilltop with his binoculars.

The 7th Jäger had been pulled off the line in late November for a long-awaited furlough. A week later, the adavance on Moscow was abandoned.

Now the Russians were fighting back, a huge counter-offensive had begun on December 6th, and there was talk of the 7th Jäger heading back to the eastern front.

However.. December 7th occured. His unit was ordered to stand-by at Kiev, where they were garrisoned in a rare intact building among 2 feet of snow.

What would the Americans do?

Igor Sat Quietly in A brush near a stand of trees. A lone Nazi foolishly walked out of the woods opposite his position. He Fired. The Soldier fell over, coughing up blood as he fell. Igor enjoyed this. It was like a game to him, a hunt. He Smiled as two more Nazi's came yelling out of the woods.

Bang! Bang!

They both were killed. One of them looked glassily towards him, almost directly, and fell other. The other one went Screaming and Crying down.

Another Soldier Snuck up behind Igor. The Nazi fool came quickly, giving away his position. He Picked up the Butt of his Rifle, and went to swing at Igor. Igor Ducked, and Stuck him in the groin with his bayonet. The man slumped against a tree, crying. Igor spat on him, and started to head back to his barracks.

Back at Pearl Harbour Lt Nakamura and the two zero's with him were having a field day against the few American planes that got of the ground.

one remained and Ryu's wingman suddenly went up in flames crashing and burning.

"Ichiro finish him off" he orders over the radio and leaving the lone American to his colleague swings out over the airfield on the way back to his carrier.

The ragged AA fire was no problem and he flew back over the burning harbour and out over the clear water of the pacific on his way home.

It was early afternoon on December 7th at Camp Lejune, Champlain really was up to nothing at all. He had ordered some privates around on menial duties and finished cleaning up Major Tellum's CP. The military radio was on in the CP, though Champlain was barely listening to the news that came over it until one report came through.

"Pearl Harbor has been struck by a Japanese surprise attack raid. Repeat, naval station Pearl Harbor has been attacked by Japanese forces."

Champlain almost breezed over the report until he figured out exactly what the radio was saying, when he froze. Attacked...on home soil. Guess the division would be moving out after all.
