An 'Artful' Entrance (FT)

Admiral Thrawn II

It had been some thirty years since the death of Grand Admiral Thrawn. The Empire forever lost its second chance to rebuild the Empire. No other Grand Admiral was alive or within power, none of the Imperial commanders alive could match Thrawn’s military genius.

It was however Thrawn’s genius that saved him. After the Clone Wars, just before the creation of the Tarkin Doctrine, Thrawn was promoted to Grand Admiral and with that title and rank given insight into many of the Emperor Palpatines secrets; one which was the cloning Spaarti cylinders. Using his clout and newfound power as a Grand Admiral and his reassignment to the Unknown Regions, Thrawn obtained several of the cylinders for his own personal use.

When Grand Moff Tarkin and Vader presented the Emperor with the plans of the Death Star, Thrawn argued against it. Thrawn believed it would simply make the Imperial forces a better target against the Rebellion. The Emperor was not to be dissuaded and Thrawn after this argument saw that he must plan for future events.

Using several of the Spaarti cylinders he had obtained and planting his own tissue into them, he took care in selecting several different planets within the Unknown Regions; Thrawn saw to it that he could have clones of himself ready for use after his own death; should that event occur.

After his untimely death at the battle of Bilbringi the Empire fell apart finally becoming the Imperial Remnant, and then rising again under the re-born Palpatine (Unified Sith) recreated the Galactic Empire and destroyed all vestiges of the Old and New Republic. What was left of the Jedi fell back to their planets (CoreWorlds) and for a long time the Empire was strong and had for the most part returned to its former glory. But then events led up to the 2nd Galactic Civil War, and with that the end of Sith power over the Galactic Empire and the rise of Chronosia to the throne the last vestige of the Old Empire were forgotten.

However, one of the Thrawns clones survived.

“Captain, we’ve reached the Hellion System. CommScan reports no other ships in-system,” reported an ensign from the crew pit. The bridge was bustling with activity as the Star Destroyer came out of hyperspace.

The Imperial Captain nodded. “Very well, launch Tie Fighter scout lines and set up a defense perimeter. I want no surprises. Alert all ships once they arrive.”

“Yes Captain,” said the crewman.

The Star Destroyer Victory hung in hyperspace above a large blue-green globe. Beyond thousands of light years away the local star lit the space from afar. It was a scene of silent special beauty among the stars. The captain savored it for a moment then turned on his heel.

“Alert me should any changes happen. I’ll be back momentarily,” said the Captain. The deck officer on duty saluted and the captain left the bridge.

The officer walked down into what had been the commanding officers quarters, now converted to other uses. The captain walked up to the wall and clacked his heels together.

“Captain Godherdt wishing to speak with-,” Godherdt began, when suddenly the door opened. The door slip apart to reveal a great antechamber where four clone troopers stood at opposite walls facing inwards. Their white armour streaked with red lines designating them as part of the old Curoscant Guard flashed in the light of the room as they came to attention.

Captain Godherdt swallowed and went through the chamber to the far door. He had not yet been in this room but from what rumour held, the Grand Admiral spent a large amount of his time here. Godherdt opened the door-

-and entered what was a literal art show room. The walls were covered in wall paintings or projections of paintings. Various sculptures were scattered around, some freestanding, others on pedestals. In the center of the room was a double circle of repeater displays, the outer ring slightly higher than the inner ring. Both sets of displays, at least from what little Godherdt could see, also seemed decoted to pictures of artwork.

And in the center of the double circle, seated in a duplicate of the Admiral’s Chair on the bridge, was Grand Admiral Thrawn.

He sat motionlessly, his shimmery blue-black hair glinting in the dim light, his pale blue skin looking cool and subdued and very alien on his otherwise human frame. His eyes were nearly closed as he leane dback against the headrest, only a glint of red showing between the lides.

“Come in Captain,” said Thrawn quietly, his modulated voice cutting through the sanctum. “What do you think?”

Godherdt swallowed again. “Its very interesting sir,” was all he could say as he stepped forward and got a better look at the different types of art, some alien and other even more obscure.

“Yes…but time is not to currently waste in viewing art,” Thrawn said. He pressed a series of buttons on his command consul and the art displays disapeared. “You had something to report Captain?”

“Yes Admiral, I thought you might like to know that we have entered the Hellion System. Scouts have been deployed and the rest of the task force is arriving. CommScan has thus far detected no enemy ships coming toward our current position,” Godherdt reported, thankful that questions about art or talking thereof on the subject had been ended.

“Good Captain, once all ships have checked in we will begin operations,” said Thrawn, his voice had a hint of pleasure in it. Godherdt nodded. “A new dawn for the Empire Captain. That is why we are here.”

“Yes sir, and I hope to see it happen,” said Godherdt heartily. Thrawn had a hint of a smile on his face.

“Indeed Captain, you will see it.”

"I want a twenty degree port yaw rotation - bring us flat to the enemy's vector, superstructure pointing at them. As soon as they're within the outer perimeter, the 1st Squadron line is to reform behind them and jam all transmissions," Grand Admiral Thrawn ordered. He sat in his Admiral's Chair on the bridge.

The Victory and four other Star Destroyers along with some support craft were engaging what happened appeared to be a surprising number of enemy ships. A couple were as big as the star destroyers.

Enemy fighter squadrons had launched and were heading strait for them.

"Launch all Tie Fighters, Marg Sabl formations; have the Dauntless concentrate all fire upon the right-side capital ship."

"Yes sir," said a crewmember.

Fighters swirled all around like a great colourful dance. Tie Fighters were having marginal success against the enemy fighters but thus far the enemy had proven their worth.

"All ships to engage as planned."
