Large Military Cuts In Budget
Yesterday, the President of Brazil, Getulio Vargas, declared that the government was to make massive cuts in military funding. Several squadrons of fighters are to be the first to take the hits from the military cut back. Much more distressing is the fact that the prized Brazilian Paratroop brigade is going to be disbanded. This is said to be the most drastic cut to take place within the Brazilian Govt. The President has said that the changes in the spending will be directed towards construction of a international airport in order to cater to the growing tourist industry. Also, a large portion will be directed towards the Presidents "discretionary fund".
Large outcries are heard from the public, as well as larger outcries and even threats are heard from the military. The General Staff is said to be meeting soon to discuss what to do.

January 5th, 1951
Yesterday, the Brazilian Military stormed the "Presidents" home, and many other congressmen's residence. This act was called "The Storming of the House" in many papers and this was a well deserved title due to the fact that it was said to last only 10 minutes. The only resistance were the uninformed gaurds of the house and some personal body gaurds. The gaurds, who were soldiers in the army, joined with their allies right as they saw what was happening. The men captured the president and are holding him in a base near Sao Paulo. The mastermind of this attack was said to the be Minister of War, Pereira da Costa. The fact that almost every single Brazilian soldier was in favor of the coup shows the enormous support that the general has. Moreover, the Brazilian people are partying in the streets because the former dictator is now out of office. Many radio stations featured people talking about the idea of makeing General Pereira da Costa their next president. When word got to the general about this he decided to hold a nation wide radio broadcast to talk to the Brazilian people.
"Children of Brazil, I come before you today to explain the reasons behind overthrow of the government. Yes, the Brazilian army did indeed attack the presidents home and those of many other government officials. However, this would not have been necessary if the "president" had been a truthful and just man. Getulio Vargas was in no way a just man. He was embezzling money not just from the military, but in turn the brazilian people. I have heard the rumors about my fellow brazilians whishing me to become the next president, but let me tell you this. I imedeeatly plan on giving back the power to the people once this issue is resolved. I have no intentions to keep this power. There have been many past military coups that ended up being a military dictatorship. However, I promise you that this is not going to be one of that sort. I thank you for your support and may other nations see this as a fall of a dictator, not the rise of one."

The US military attache covertly and discretely warns the Brazilian military that a coup would be frowned upon.
US Secretary of State,
I, General Pereira da Costa, would like to inform you that there has indeed been a military coup in Brazil. On the other hand, I would hope that you would tell your government that this was for the good of Brazils people. The former "president" was embezzling government funds for his own gain. I hope that the US govenment would help in this endeavor. I understand that this is not the nature of the US government to aid in the overthrow of a govenment, but when one was as corrupt as this one, I believe any measures are necessary. I would also like to inform your government that I have no intention to hold power but to form a civilian Republic government and make a new constitution similar to the US as soon as this is over, which will be very soon.
General Pereira da Costa

We are pleased to see the establishment of a democratic system in Brazil. Syria would like to use this as a chance to build up relations in the Americas. We would like to offer a program together, perhaps exchanging students for language studies, enabling Syrians to learn Portugese and Brazilians to learn Arabic, along with the possiblility of military sales (after Arabia cools down again the Air Force may have some Saab 29's to offer.

The British government is always keen to see the spread of democracy in the world and cautiously applauds the people of Brazil for this move. However they would also like to see what transpires post-coup, and MI6 may well be monitoring the situation to determine whether democracy is introduced.

From: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Hugo Eckener
To: Protector of Brazil, General Pereira da Costa
Minister Eckener applauds the General for handling the situation without the loss of any souls. We hope that the vile ex-"President" will be punished for his crimes against the people of Brazil. We also would like to reestablish ties with our allies of old. Even though we were both under the iron hand of Communism, our people shared a common bond, and the chancellor wishes to reconnect. Thus, we are currently discussing with our financial ministers about the possibility of increasing investment in Brazil.

Syria asks the Brazilian position on the Arab Civil War, and, through very quiet channels, reminds them the Syrian aircraft are not yet in Brazil, and that Baghdad's flag may look nicer on their sides.
Unaware of such offers, the FNS export agency offers the new Me-121 interceptor to the Brazillian Airforce once it becomes available.

Brazilian General Pereira da Costa WINS the 1952 Elections!!!
Brazilian elections took place about 1 month ago and the voter turn out was the highest in Brazilian history with 89% of Brazilians voting. However, this was not the surprise. There were three candidates, but of all of them, one stood out the most. Yes the Protector of Brazil, General Pereira da Costa, had overwhelming support from the Brazilian people. We were able to get an interview with the general after the results were in.
“General, how does it feel to know that Brazil is behind you 100%” asked the reporter.
“Well not 100%, the number was……”
“92%” the reporter jumped in.
“Right, well I can’t say much but that I am eternally grateful for the trust that Brazil has bestowed upon me.”
“Well you are the "Savior" of Brazil according to many of your supporters.”
“I wish they didn’t call me that, the people are the “saviors” as I might say. They could have revolted and threw out the military as easily as the military did to the corrupt government before. However, they trusted that we would deliver them democracy, as we did. I must admit that I never suspected to be in the leadership role once again. I am proud however to continue to lead Brazil into a bright future.”
“Lastly…. Why did you run for office.”
“Well I wasn't planing on running for office, but I was told that I was one of the the conservative candidates just before I left for the Kaiser's funeral. When I came back I found out that the polls were in my favor. Although I didn't want to be involved with Brazilian politics, the people obviously wanted me too. Next thing you know.... I was campaining all over Brazil.”
1956: Three points in Australian Budget to encouraging immigration (to East Timor perhaps, but anywhere works). Here's hoping for some effects... :D

Another point that the President made was directed to the growing issue of Brazil’s population. The current population is very high and Brazils Economy is hard pressed to support all its citizens. A bill has come up to solve the problem. It states that any family to move out of Brazil will be given economic assistance. With East Timor under Australia’s control, Australia is an ideal place to emigrate. Moreover, Australia is fully behind this plan. Brazil hopes that 1 million people will have immigrated to Australia from Brazil within 5 years.

The Australian government quietly points out that Darwin, the capital of North Australia, a booming city near to East Timor with a growing portuguese speaking population, may be a better location. The area is more civilized, less crowded, multi-cultural, enjoys better social services and soon to benefit economically massively from a US/Australian airbase in the area. Families who move to this area would have airfare paid and set up fees paid by the Australian government.

The President agrees and begins emigration incentives to Darwin. The President also informs the people of what the Australian Government has to say.
The President is also holding a special session of congress to discuss what he is to do if he is elected for another 5 years.

Once all the votes were counted up from the 1957 election, it came to no surprise that the current president was re-elected. With a high voter turnout once again he swept polls along with the election. He made a spech informing Brazil that the oil crisis is ending and that to avoid a further crisis such as this one, Brazil, along with Amreica, is researching alternate fuels. He ends once again with thanking the people.
