And so, does Evil prevail?... (Closed FT Attn: No endorse.)

From across the stars, and through the void, thought chatter from countless species, from countless worlds formed a vibrant pallet of life across the canvas of the stars. They formed the stream of thought, and intelligence, that any who was capable could observe, learn from, or even manipulate to their own ends. Some embraced it, and learned to master it; others shunned it, and labeled it heresy.

No matter what the races of the Universe thought, things...were to happen in this enchanted realm, nothing would prepare them for.

A council Shoren lay in silent meditation. She sat in precarious balance, between the realm of the physical, and the realm of the mystic. The gentle flow of life some called the Force, and others classified as mere psionics surged through her as she felt across the stars, and for a brief instant, unraveled the mysteries of the Universe. In that instant, she was one, yet one with all. It was a level of enlightenment few had knew existed, and even fewer had achieved. It was calm, yet it was exciting. She felt herself leaving the lowly physical world, and reaching a higher plane. Around her, lights swirled, and sounds grew muted. She could see the very threads of existence, as she felt her body rise, and melt away. The mass of thoughts she had once heard as chatter slipped away, giving way to clear, distinct voices, and thoughts. The Universe was clearer, and it was as though a fog had lifted from her mind. She was beginning to ascend…

Yet her brief nirvana was cut short. She felt herself falling, her body growing heavier, her mind feeling more restrained as a wave of sadness overcame her. The lights darkened and faded, and the voices transformed into thundering screams, and cries of agony. She gripped her head, and she fell, her restored body striking the ground like a stone. Her mouth opened to scream in pain, but her lungs were empty and she gasped for air. The screams died down, returning to chatter, but her mind was still filled with suffering. She had failed…

Though all knew that achieving true ascension was a challenge more difficult than any to be encountered in the physical realm, few knew the pain of nearly succeeding…and then failing. It was a trauma only the strongest minds could endure, and left the weak forever in madness.

“I…I couldn’t…” She said to herself as she sat up, the pain subsiding.

Suddenly, she fell once more, and this time…She did not revive…

Three days ago…

“So you get that new 'item' yet?” asked a young woman. She smiled as she asked. Behind her, displays flickered, and figures in black clad outfits waved their hands in front of holodisplays, working tirelessly on some as yet unnamed project.

A young man looked up from his display, and smiled as well. “Nooo…I just can’t decide if I want the leather trim, or the synth fabric.

“Oh, please, you’re just too uptight about your image, you’re worried that a new car might send the wrong message. By the Gods, it’s only a car.”

The man frowned, “Wha-…”

Suiki raised up her hands. “Hey, I’m just saying.”

“Right right…” The man said in a skeptical tone, and turned back to his display.

His mind interfaced with the PsiCommu, and displays and outputs flashed before his eyes. His hands rested on the sides of his console as his thoughts controlled the terminal.

“Woah…”

Suiki moved her head over and scanned his display. “What is it?” She asked, her observation hinting at nothing out of the ordinary.

“Look at a these wave patterns. What do they look like to you?”

Suiki looked carefully, taking note of the wave lengths, and energy patterns. Slowly, her eyes widened.

“Huien…”

“Yeah…I know.” The man suddenly became urgent. “I’d better get these results to the boss…”

Suiki only sat in stunned silence. Her eyes scanning back and forth along the readouts as if repetition would make them any easier to bear…
The waveforms slowly undulated, and flowed with a eerie calm.

“…And so, I’d like to congratulate all of you on your hard work, and dedication to this project. None of this would be possible without you…Blah, blah, blah…”

A figure stood under spotlight, the bright light washing out his form, leaving only his voice to echo through the main chamber in which he stood over. From across the quadrant, hundreds of scientists, engineers, physicists, the best and brightest the Sovereignty had to offer were gathered here.

“Boooooo!!!” cried out the crowd before him. The atmosphere was cheerful, and all were basking in the glory of their latest achievement. Despite all that had gone against them, they had accomplished their goal. A truly powerful being. Grander in scale than even the Ascendants of myth and legend, and more important than anything less than Genesis itself.

“Alright, Alright, but seriously, you guys deserve the all the credit…And then some!”

“Yeah!!” rang the gathering. Smiles were spread across all faces, and drinks held high. It was a happy occasion, though none would suspect…

1 Day Earlier…
"Get that containment field up!" Shouted the man who had been so calm just two days before.

Suiki ran to a control panel, desperately slamming the controls. "No effect! ERG ratings 100 and above! Firewalls broken down, PSI-counter measures failed!"

"Activate the auto-destruct sequence, 3-9-1-1!"

"It's already gotten control of the detonator! Auto-destruct inoperable!"

"Damn it!" Screamed the man.

Around him, hurried shouts, and frightened voices formed a backdrop of terror as klaxons sounded throughout their entire facility. Marines scurried about, trying in vain to maintain order. "All personnel to the escape pods!"

The mob of people leaped forward. Bodies were trampled, and the first deaths of a new dark age registered on the lifesigns computer.

Despite all the terror, the man remained controlled. Terrified, but contained.

"Come on!" Shouted Suiki.

"Just one last thing to try!"

"No! The Marines already have everyone evacuated from this level! We got to go now!"

A Marine ran up towards Suiki. "Ma'am! This way!" He shouted as he grabbed her arm, and lead her away.

"No! There's still a ma-" Suiki turned limp as a doctor injected her with a sleep agent. With all the hysteria, the control teams were forced to enact drastic measures. The Marine took a double take around the level, but the man had already hidden himself. The Marine ran off, and he continued his work.

"Have to try this..." he said to himself

The noise had died down as the level of cleared, and only the klaxons gave any indication anything was terribly wrong. He continued to press controls, readouts displayed various wave patterns, and a large display proclaimed "Sentience Nullifier BEDE 1"

He continued to work his console, when he suddenly gripped his head, screaming in pain. "NOOOO!!! NOT YET!!! IT CAN'T BE!!!"

From inside his own mind, came a disturbing reply, from a voice, none had yet heard before... It was a voice... "YES...IT CAN..."

He continued to writhe in pain, eventually falling silent, and slumping over onto the ground. Dead...

Across the entire complex, the same tragic end befell all. Even those who had already ejected in their pods. No one was safe from the Mental torture, the Psionic anguish, the silent death. Cries sounded across the massive facility, a thousand voices of pain, and suffering. Then, silence, as death fell over what was now, a mass graveyard. Suiki lay unconscious inside her pod...

From the complex, tucked deep in the center of the Aphotic Galactic Core, and near the supermassive blackhole that made its center, a rippled fluttered out in all directions. Driving all those in its path, into madness...

An automated distress beacon was sent out, coded to Eshirian Military Vessels only, with commands to destroy the new threat. How inadequate they would be...

From Sapherion Prime, Ki'menoshi dispatched a simple message to the nearby nation of NE. <We...have a little problem...>

(OOC: There's not much anyone will understand if you're reading this for the first time. A lot has to do with a certain national project that hasn't really been popular, but has been followed up on by NE. And as far as I'm concerned, if he gets it, that's all that matters.

NE: Before you respond, I'll contact you first, and we can discuss where I want this to go and such. I'll be getting AIM back. I think. If not, SBC. If you can do that.

ooc: Good timing! :D this will be fun!
IC:

A No Endorse sensor officer on Haven recieved the transmission. It was too vague to send up top, so he sent a reply off to get something concrete for the high forheads to crunch.

What kind of a problem? Are we talking an attic of a problem? It's never a good thing, having a problem-attic, tis quite problematic.

But humor aside, what's the problem? Problematic enough that we'd need to pull a Deep-Strike fleet to help?
The Lady-Protector wouldn't even find out about this first transmission, she was far too busy looking for the Prime Minister in the prison cells of Sanctuary. She'd be informed when there was something to go on.

"Ugh...my head..." Suiki awoke with a jump and a shout. "Oh my Gods, wher-"

Her eyes widened as the memories flooded back into her mind. "Oh my Gods the Auto-Destruct!" "Computer!" She shouted. No response. "Aien?... Huh, the computer must be out..." She whirled about, trying to fix her location, when suddenly, she realized she wasn't in the space port anymore... She ran to a view port, and stared outside at the endless expanse. Stars...Ok, that's a good sign... She thought. "Ow..." she felt her forehead. A nice, large bruise covered most the side of her head. Then, the adrenaline kick, her mind began to race, and she began to stumble. Suiki stopped for a moment, and took a breath. "Ok, there's stars, so the Universe is still here...There's this escape pod, and I still look Eshirian, so the laws of Physics haven't gone to hell..." Maybe it isn't aware of it's own power yet... She looked around, and realized that her escape pod hadn't ejected from the tattered space station. But where are the guards And why isn't this station a pile of dust yet?... Suiki thought as she gingerly opened the hatch.

Meanwhile, in response to the rather silly transmission, Ki made a more detailed reply.

<Humor aside... I need to speak with the Federal leader(s)...immediately.>

Using emergency perrogative, I'm pulling five hundred ships, and patching you through to the Sanctuary Peace Confrence. Gods be with you if it's as bad as you seem to make it out to be.

The signal was immediatly patched through to the Confrence room, and scores of ships were scrambled. They might not be able to field much initially, but it would be ready pretty fast.

============================================

There were scores in the Confrence. Matthew Hunter was finishing his two-day lecture on international politics in relation to the mathmatical simulation of No Endorse, and had just gotten to the really technical areas. Suddenly, his display cut off and the transmission was emergency-override patched through.

Many of the delegates squinted forwards to get a good look at the person on the other end. It was Jennifer Halsey who spoke first. "Hello there, old friend. You look distressed, what can the Inferno do for the Children of Spaherion Prime? I am told that five-hundred ships of our fleet have been emergency scrambled. Will they be necessary?"

<This is a matter great importance. Whatever forces you can bring to bear at this time must be called forth to the Sapherion System. Whatever ground tro-> Ki stopped herself mid sentence in a way almost as if to catch her breath. <Forgive me...Hello old friend. It is good to see that our allies-> in the Inferno are together once again. However shaky the current truce may be...>

Ki's transmission was cut down, and a second display was put forth. This one outlining the Center of the Aphotic Galaxy. <I will waste no time. What you're seeing now is the CCC's "Galaxy Computer Project" Station.>

The display zoomed in. <As you can see it's a massive station, over 2 AU across.>

The display shifted to show the Galactic Core, and the Central Black Hole, which began flashing.

<2 days ago, our Military Outpost Tau-498 received a transmission from the Station.>

The display flickered into another transmission. This time, the signal was garbled, and screams and cries could be heard in the background where nothing but a shower of sparks could be seen amidst a blazing fire. "Aw Gods HELP ME!!! HELP ME!!!" came a disturbingly loud cry. Marines could be seen running amidst the flames as they struggle to keep a mass mob under control. "Come on! This way!! Remember your protocol! Civilians to Sector 3! Escape pods now!"

The transmission abruptly cut, and Ki's face reappeared. <I'm sorry, there isn't much time. You must understand. The Sovereignty could very well fall...>

Ki's face looked down and the sounds of a few controls being operated could be heard. She looked back up. <I'm sending you a Datatburst with what info you'll need. Don't hesitate to ask for anything else. Whatever the Sovereignty can spare, I give you my word, you'll have it.>

Ki looked behind her, and faced the group. <I'm sorry, there isn't much time. The Homeworlds are being evacuated, including the Capitol. We're leaving this place I'm afraid. I will be aboard Eshiria One, please, any transmissions please route there. This will be the last transmission from the Sovereignty Capitol for some time. I will contact you once I am aboard my ship. Ki out.>

The screen flickered off, leaving the spectators to digest the flurry of events which had just occurred...

Meanwhile, as Ki was being escorted onto Eshiria One, the first elements of the Sovereign Space Fleet entered the are around the GCP Station. Seige Guns ready, and two squadrons of fighters deployed...

There was a silence in the room for several moments. Matthew Hunter was the first to speak. "Gods damned... the fools really made one!" The room collapsed into a roar immediatly, everyone trying to get a word in. Suddenly, from the side of the room, a voice roared.

"SILENCE!" The effect was instantaneous. A starship captain stood forth. "Gods be damned if I ever leave this place. My ancestors have inhabited the same worlds since beyond memory. It is our land, we shall fight to protect it." Nikolai Perez cut an odd figure, quite out of suit with the look of the rest of the Terran around him, but his prowess on the battlefield was unmatched in recent times.

"Then it's settled." Cried a voice. "We fight!"

Jennifer Halsey motioned for the floor, and began to speak her piece. "We must follow Miss Deral's economic and public plans in the outlying planets. The main systems must be immediatly shifted to total war economy, I want Mister Holner to get me constant reports on the home front. Miss Tyne, look for anything in history that we might use as leverage to get the population on our side, Mister Archer, I want a complete appraisal of the Soverignty, don't worry about your... feelings for Miss Tsu, professional or otherwise. Same from you Mister Hunter, and don't cover your bias either. Your contrasting views will paint a good picture. Also, Matthew, find James Talon by sundown tomorrow, or you will face the warblade. I hereby re-take the position of Lady Protector, and all of the duties and responsibilities that are entitled to such, I will have M-I find out what's fully going on outside of possible national collapse over there. Objections?"

There were a few murmers, but mostly a flurry of activity to re-gear for war. "Good." She mumbled, noticing the looks sent her way by Hunter. Bah, he'll get over it. The revolution is de-fanged. 'Sides, he'll want to randomly kill Eshirians anyways, and it's looking like we may need to do that. She hooked up to the GovNet and scrambled every remaining capital ship after the sale to SeaQuest. Explorers were recalled, some diplomats were pulled back, and everything was put under maximum alert status.

Captain Perez was back on his ship within the hour, and in contact with Captain Sandra Farsee. Together they raised the five hundred promised ships from sources unimaginable and far-flung. Explorers, defenders, diplomats, traders, civilian sector defense personel, everyone fused into a dazzlingly capable fleet. The group gathered and catapulted off towards Sapherion Prime, prepared for the worst.

We are coming to Sapherion Prime. Show us the way and we will end this menace if it takes the skin and blood of the entire Inferno. There are far more behind us rallying in case of complete emergency.

"Excuse me? Ms. President?"

Ki sat at her desk, a datapadd in one hand, and a coffee in the other. She didn't look up at first, and her posture betrayed her exhaustion. Slowly, she first glanced at her drink, then looked up, and gave a weak smile. "Been drinking one too many of these lately..." she said, with emphasis on "these".

The aid which had walked in only returned her weak smile, and handed Ki another datapadd. "Latest report from the front ma'am..."

Ki accepted it with some contempt, and scanned it. Her face turned even more sour as the news hit her. "Five, Billion?..."

"I-" The aid stuttered, unsure how to break the news lightly. "I'm afraid so ma'am. The first wave hit the civilian centers without warning. No survivors..."

"Good Gods..."

The aid shifted nervously. Ki noticed a twitch. "Alright," She began, knowing whatever was coming next would not be good. "What is it?"

"Latest ACE-REC reports also say that...that..."

"Just come out with it. I didn't put you in my cabinet to stutter all day."

The aids' voice quickened, "Yes ma'am. They say that the out lying systems have been attacked by a new enemy."

"New?"

"Yes Ma'am...But scans indicate that the energy signatures are consistent with another older weapon type... The Phantoms..."

Ki collapsed back into her chair instantly, and took the longest breath of her career.

"Bastards..."

"Ms. President? A message from the 'Inferno'." Another aid walked in.

"Patch it Psi."

Ki reviewed the message and chuckled. "Huh. They're going to need a lot more than that... Send them the Phantom data."

"Yes Ms. President."

Ki slowly sat back up and stared out her porthole.

Gods help us...

The databurst was recieved with much confusion. The Phantoms?! Hadn't they been fought long ago? The robotic A-N-Five-Sixty had fallen to them what seemed to be ages ago. Far more meaningful looks went between Sandra Farsee and Nikolai Perez, two commanders who had been there that day long ago. You could never guess it from their appearance, but they had been commanders since before some Terrans' great-grandfathers had been born.

Sandy, you remember that day, don't you?

Five-Sixty was a good droid, but for all his capabilities he could not save the ship. If I remember, almost all were lost.

Three fourths. If only those Terrans would study the science of the mind...

Listen to the rumors. The Eshirians studied the science, and look now. I'll see you in the mind-net Nikolai.

=====================================

The five-hundred ship fleet jumped into Sapherion Prime. Already, there were dozens of other ships being brought online and organized. Word of Phantom reapperance had sent the nation into overdrive, desperatly trying to activate everything it had. Two thousand more ships would be found and brought online in the second time that the entire Inferno had been mobilized in its lifetime.

OOC: YES, Restarting after a three year hiatus FTW. XD .

IC:

As the NE vessels arrived, The Eshiria One floated lazily about in orbit around Sapherion Prime. A small contingent of Home Guard vessels surrounded it. Considering the power of the returning Phantoms, it was a token gesture at best.

The space around the planet was alight with the flashes of a never ending procession of opening and closing warp portals. While most of the portals lead out of the Sovereignty, a precious few represented whatever was left of the Sovereign Fleet, and their now immortal allies, the Terrans from NE. All here to try and stop the limitless hoard of the the Phantoms.

Ki sat at her desk. Her bloodshot eyes slowly scanning the miniature pantheon of holographic displays of automated intelligence reports from across the Sovereignty. Most of the feeds were awash with static, and a few flickered with raging glow of infernos, and the occasional explosion. None showed any sign of life.

"Just what the hell is going on out there" wondered Ki.

As Ki watched helplessly, an aide walked. "Madam President? Word from our Embassy in NE, they're gearing up for total war. 500 ships have arrived in the Core system already."

It pained Ki to say it, "Good", she said in a faltering voice. She felt like throwing up. War sickened her to the pit of her stomach. Her eyes closed briefly, and her head nodded off slightly. With a gentle sigh, she struggled to regain her composure.

"Ma'am?" The aide's eyes darting up and down Ki's exhausted form.

"It's alright." Ki replied wearily. "Le- Let the Admirals handle it from here. Have them coordinate our defense plans with the Terrans. That'll be all..."

"Yes, Madam President.", responded the aid, and after a slight bow, left with a quick stride out of the room. Outside, she waved over another aid, "Let's get a med scan in there. She doesn't look too good." The aides' worried eyes betrayed her "All business" tone.

...........................

Outside the smoldering hulk of the Galaxy Computer station, Suiki's escape pod drifted among the wreckage.

"Uuuunnnh..." A pool of blood drifted into focus. Her hands, and most of her hair were soaked in it. Was it her own?

"MMMMMF!!" She grabbed her mouth, her eyes wide with terror. Blood loss this great couldn't have come from her. Any normal Eshirian would have been dead already. She looked around her, and her nails dug into her cheeks.

All around her, an unspeakable sight. Her colleagues, her friends, all slumping but still buckled to their seats, with their arms dead at their side. Their heads twisted back, eyes white, mouths gaping, skin dried, and blood flowing from whatever unnatural orifice the body offered. What was this hell?

It's said that in space, no one can hear you scream. However, here, one could swear they could feel the terrible tingle, of a mind gone insane.

NES Harmony tore through space, every facet of her hull shining with the intensity of a new ship. Fresh off the line, this Adjudicator III Dreadnought represented the pinnacle of No Endorse technology, and had a price tag to prove it. Her various systems roared to life as the haphazard fleet hurled towards Sapherion Prime.

Behind her great bulk flew the flags of a dozen clans, from aging Adjudicator Is and Wasp class Frigates to several of the brand new Orion Class Battleships, everything seemed to be represented. Freighters converted into anti-fighter platforms, special operations ships, carriers, destroyers, troopships, any space-worthy vessel at hand had been commandeered for this trip, and more were gathering back home. And every ship's weapon systems were running hot, their capacitors glowing on any sensor that dared to survey this vast array of firepower. The Military Industrial Complex of No Endorse dreamed about these kinds of fleets at night; they'd finally get their chance to see if their toys worked.

In the CC of the Harmony, the tension in the air was nigh palpable. Every crewman had expected to arrive just to late, just in time to witness the Phantoms swarm over Sapherion Prime as they had swarmed over the No Endorse fleet in the distant past. But now they were ready, or so they hoped.

"I want everyone at full battlestations," barked Nikola, striding about the bridge impatiently. "Be prepared for a jump in at any sector! Also, I want sidejumpers running hot at all times, we could need them at any moment."

"SIR! We have contact from the local Defense Net, and got the coordinates of the station!" A radio officer turned to see the Commander staring him down. "What shall I transmit?"

"Gods damn it, get a ship over there!" Nikola was almost beside himself under the stress, marshaling such a fleet was like herding highly destructive cats. "Better yet, send a squadron. Have the Hammer and her supporting ships jump out immediately. We can afford to be down a battleship and a few cruisers. And open a Gods damned line with the Eshirian Battlenet, they will tell us where to go to complement their defenses. We took so long in jump they're probably almost here."

SECURE TRANSMISSION
FROM: Cpn Nikola Perez, NES Harmony
TO: Eshirian General Staff
BODY:
We are, as you can probably see, running wide open. We're willing to take up any positions you desire to support your ships, and I have sent off a battleship and several cruisers to the station to aid any vessels you may have remaining there. From what we know of the Phantoms, we assume that they could be almost upon us. What is the strategic situation?
END TRANSMISSION

NES Hammer and her supporting cruisers broke off from the main formation and disappeared in a brilliant flash. Headed for the station, they would hopefully be able to aid anything still living. They reverted to realspace in another blinding flash of light, and began to scan the local system for any survivors of the disaster.
