" Hello, this is Terry McSherry coming to you from XNN Central in the capitol of Xeraphia with breaking news. The Emperor, Alaric Tan'it, has announced the first major revamping of the Xeraphian military in over twenty-five years.
With the completion of the third and final Artificial Intelligence BioTech plant on the planet NeoGaia, which is in the Typhon Expanse, Tau Ceti Constellation, the Emperor has ordered the manufacture of eight and a half million AI Arakno O/D units, commonly known as "Spiders".
For about twenty years now, the Empire has had approximately 3.5 million of the Spiders, and they have performed well in the field. These original Spiders are to be retro-fitted to current AI standards.
The Spiders have rarely been seen within the Empire. This is due to their deployment in classified areas throughout the Empire and the Empire's most trusted allies.
For the first time, we have a description: each Spider unit stands seven feet, 2 inches tall, four appendages on each side. Six of the appendages are for movement, the remaining two are fitted with a variety of weapons.
Ninety percent of the Spiders are equipped with twin .35mm Gatling guns. Five percent are equipped with Lasers, the balance armed with Pulse Cannons.
The Spiders top speed is 74 mph. When in attack mode, their average speed is 50 mph.
The casing of the AI Arakno O/D unit is of a titanium alloy.
Each unit is programmed for ultimate offence/defense parameters, and each has the ability to respond to individual situations.
In addition to the Spiders, the Empire utilises 200,000 ViZAI Paladins, whose main functions are as Palace Guards, and 200,000 VLAI Sentinels, whose sole function is to guard the Empire's many embassys, both here and abroad.
The manufacture of the new Spiders will be accomplished in three phases.
Phase One will see the manufacture and deployment of 3 million units within the next 120 days.
Phase Two will see the manufacture and deployment of 3 million units 120 days after the completion of Phase One.
Phase Three will complete the current upgrade with the completion of an additional 2.5 million units. These units will be placed on reserve at a classified area within the Empire.
The grand total of all Spider units will then stand at 12 million. These AI units are not meant to replace the present standing army, but to complement them. In a battle situation, these units will be the first to attack, leaving the human troops to follow.
