Tatsvan winter games

Greetings fellow Nations of all shapes, sizes and colours. Tatsvala, a fairly small, newborn nation welcomes all to attend its bi-annual Winter Games held in its newly-appointed capital city, Sentala.

Some history...

Sentala is nestled right underneath Tatsvala's only mountain, a stray from a range a few thousand kilometres east. It has had a long tradition of winter sports competitions: skiing, snowboarding, skating plus some fun games like tobogganning races, snow fort competitions and snowpaintball wars. The Emperor and Empress of Tatsvala were visiting Sentala ten years back and saw this amazing event and started funding it nationally. It has since brought a sense of comradeship to the country as a whole, for medals go out not only for best played but for best sportsmanship, attitude and creative coreography in all the sports - it puts the art back into games that have long been judged of "win or lose". It also give out medals for its recreational games which are judged by a randomly preselected group of locals.

Now every second year the games is held in Sentala. Travel is not a problem for most Tatsvans for the highly efficient train system is governemnt run and reaches all corners of the nation. For other countries interested in attending, Tatsvala has offered to pay for all accomedations upon entering the country, they only need worry about a plane ticket over.

Tatsvala is bracing for the impact of making these games international - though many buildings are already in place big enough to hold all the games, hotel and restaurant contracts are popping up everywhere. We have been preparing finacially since the last games. Depending on the response, we are probably going to limit the amount of representatives to two per sport for single types and one team each for group sports.

We open our arms in invitation and hope to enrich participating nations with Tatsvala's culture and history and learn more about other nations as well.

OOC - Heya, this is my first time on this forum(and actually my first time RPing too tho i have a good concept methinks), I may not be online around the clock but I look forward to some good times with everyone here.

Here's some more info and if there are any miscellaneous questions, please don't hesitate to ask:

The games are dated depending on the current weather. This year March has been only just starting too cool off to normal weather, the games will start on the 26th. The games will be during a 2-week span and all invitations are requested to be in before the 20th.

Opening Cermeonies include traditional snow-ring greeting, all are to attend. That evening a Ball will be held, all atheletes and nation representatives invited, if any musicians wish to perform their requests are due the 20th as well.

All the normal winter games will happen during the two weeks plus tobogganning, snowpaintballing tournaments, snowshoe races and icemelting (where artists have to melt the ice rather than carve it. The tradition was to use salt but that took too long, SMALL blowtorches are distributed but are governemnt regulated and closely watched)

We request that if your nation speaks a foreign language that you understand we cannot teach a language to a nation in mere months - we have some translators but not enough for everyone. We will freely exchange all currencies to Tezos and back again.

Closing ceremonies are very jubilant: various snow-related foods are made and new recipes are always accepted to be tried by the masses. Another Ball is held to finish the week and each member takes home a ring made for them in opening ceremonies.

There shouldn't be any problems, our police force is very valiant and dependable - when they're around, which they will be during the games.

Does Tatsvala have the resources to conduct an international hockey tournament as part of these games?

LA Ice would now like to confirm its place at the Tatsvan Winter games, however, we have a number of questions:

Does the Snowpaintballing take place between teams, or is it for a single athlete from each nation?
Does the Icemelting take place between teams, or is it for a single athlete from each nation?
If so, how large are the teams?

We have assembled a team for ice hockey, and we also have our champion snowboarders prepared to enter, who have won many a national championship.

OOC: Congratulations on a good first RP.
I've Telegrammed you about scoring.

LA Ice wishes for a bit of "special performance" of its national anthem at the Opening Ceremony. Our National Anthem is "O Green World", which is performed by Gorillaz, an animated band.

However, a new technology has been demonstrated at events such as the Grammys and MTV Europe Awards that will allow the animated band to perform on a stage, using a mix of projectors, smoke, and mirrors, similar to Pepper's Ghost. It also allows for human interaction with the animated characters

We shall pay for the technology and any labour required to set it up in the stadium. We will also pay for Damon Albarn, the real singer behind Gorillaz, and his 40-piece rock orchestra, to come to Sentala.

If you would like to see a sample usage of this technology, which includes Madonna performing with the Gorillaz, please follow the following web link:

http://www.devilducky.com/media/37886/

Thank you for reading our proposal.

OOC: I actually have a live recording of our National Anthem, if you'd like to make the Opening Ceromony RP just that tiny bit more real.

OOC: This question is for the bigger nations in the Tatsvan Winter Games.

What are we gonna do about scorination? For ice hockey, we can easily use Leagion or something like it, but for, say, bobsleighing, skeleton, and skiing, what WILL we use?

I'm not exactly a sports RPer, but I tried out Leagion today and it was pretty friendly, better than NSFootySim in my opinion. I've never used Excel, I prefer something with a bit of a user interface rather than just formulas.

Santala is very proud of its Town Square, still used as a monthly meeting place and can hold all of Santala's population - there will take place the opening ceremonies. We decided on a short ceremony of our own to leave enough time for each Nation to at least recite its own national Anthem. Anything goes (as long as it's not too extravagent unless the nation is willing to pay for the supplies and setup themselves) but it shouldn't be longer than 15 - 20 minutes. We have our National choir and our Tatsvan Symphony in Santala and are willing to sing/play for and/or alongside any Nation. As for non-traditional anthems please feel free to bring your own musical group.

Hockey is a national favourite and the rink was rennovated just a few years back to be able to host concerts and shows in the summer - it can seat
5 000 and should meet all international requirements.

Snowpaintballing is a team sport consisting of 7 teammates - 1 recon, 3 offensive and 3 defensive. Normally there are 3 teams in the game and the goal is to eliminate all foes. It is a very strategic game and played normally in a forest. We understand this is a new sport and we are willing to have some preliminary games with our three top teams in the nation to show exactly how it is done. Afterwards we can coach some on how to play and the tournament can be completely for fun. We decided not to give out medals for this sport until it is better known.

Icemelting is individual since artists usually prefer to work alone, though teams of any number are allowed but usually not more than 3 people per are reccommended or else it gets crowded and all's fun and games until somebody burns an eye.

OOC - I'm stumped over the sports scoring... I have dice, but it that were too crude we could play virtual rock, paper, scissors if you want (hehehe). I have excel (or at least I can install it). Will the scores be random? It would be too unfair if they were not, since rating athletes on how wealthy/populous/etc their country is would be completely unfair.

OOC: I think Leagion will work well. Hell, I'll break out NHL on PS2 and play the games.

Rommelia is pleased to supply its winter sports federation for all of the events offered and looks forward to the competition. Thank you to Tatsvala for hosting the games.

OOC: For ice hockey and maybe snowpaintballing we can use Leagion. Pretty good program IMO. The scores are random, but you can set "ranks" on each nation, which must be organized by us. EG: The country that wins this year's games will get a higher ranking, losers will lower their rank, etc. I would make Tatsvala a slightly higher ranking than the other nations, seeing as they're on home ground. Still, we can't exactly use Leagion for skeleton :P

IC:
Our national anthem takes about 3 to 4 minutes to perform in full, and we shall pay for the set-up of the projectors, smoke machines, and computer graphics for our performance. It's not going to be cheap though.

Thank you to Tatsvala for hosting these games.

Here is a list of all sports we have facilities for by the mountain:

Alpine ski
Biatholon
Bobsleighing
Nordic Ski
Curling
Figure skate
Freestlye ski
Hockey
Luge
Nordic Combined
Short Track speed skate
Skeleton
Ski Jump
Snowboarding
Speed skating
Snowpaintballing

Nobody is required to compete in ALL events or any for that matter! On the other hand, please state all sports you ARE participating in so we can make an inventory as soon as possible.

Oh, yes, icemelting is going to take place at town square after the opening ceremonies.

News coverage starting on the 20th will name the Tatsvan altheletes. These sports, on a side note, are for all ages but not for ones already doing the sport as their profession (it would give them an unfair advantage), and are not allowed to make money off of this - though if it gets them into a professional career, all the better. Need I state any other obvious rules? Be polite, be curteous and use common sense. This is only a competition if you make it one. We Tatsvans strive to uphold good sportsmanship at all times - the best way we do it is at the party after the games where bragging will get you a face full of snow.

OOC: For team games we can use the Leagion system. For others, well, I'll just toss dice that's easiest. I'll make a chart and have a few rounds of elimination, etc.

IC: four more days until applications stop and the processing can begin. There are currently 7 countries plus Tatsvala. Findan, if you wanted to join our press is awaiting an interview to see what teams you would like to bring. Remember Tatsvala is hosting and we pay for everything(room & board, transport inside Tatsvala, etc) except extravagant introductions at opening ceremonies.
Our telegram lines are always open for questions.

Preparations are almost finished here in Tatsvala, the rinks and skihills are getting finishing touches and all hotels are reserved during the two weeks for athletes and their managers. We are very lucky to have our mountain which allows world-class quality winter games facilities, our summer sports are not as popular. For countries that didn't give specifics about which sports they have in mind participating in please, we need an actual count of how many bodies will be arriving and competing by the 20th.

Our athlete list has been sent by fax to Tatsvala.

We have conversed with Gorillaz producer Damon Albarn, and recorded our national anthem for the holograph performance. Only the first 2 verses will be performed by the holographic Gorillaz, with a traditional LA Icenese song, Meh See, being performed afterwards by a small brass band.

The cost for our National Anthem is $500,000, including equipment, and has been paid out of the Arts budget.

OOC: Dice is the easiest way.
