All for One

Today would be a momentous day in the history of the solar system. Konseaki and Jaemus, two world bound together were now going to make the next step. They had been close allies ever since radio contact was made eighty years ago. With space flight had come trade, and now today would come exploration. Today was the day the first two hyperdrive ships would be launched. They would make a quick jump to a near by solar system then a quick jump home.

At a space station just outside of the fifth planets orbit, the two ships were being prepped, one ship from each of the planets. They would Jump together, do a quick survey and come home.

In orbit around Konsekai, Location Urij Construction Yard

This is the Marijetta. We are primed for launch and awaiting confirmation of destination, as well as confirmation of the Jaemus vessel.

“Confirmed Marijetta, the Forerunner disengaging from dock. Laying in a course, heading at 402 mark 349 from out current location. Marijetta that is our destination should be no further then ten minutes at stop speed. Let’s go see what we can find.”

The Forerunner disengaged from the dock and activated thrusters. It would take a few minutes for computers to finish calculating the jump, but there was no hurry now.

This is the Marijetta, course and distance acknowladged.
The vessel disengaged from the Urji Constuction Yards as it's intra-system engines kicked in. It slid silently forward to take up a position some ten thousand kilometers distant from the Forerunner, and awaited the compilation of the information required for the jump.

The Marijetta took up position near the Forerunner. It was three minutes before the final calculations were done. When it was done the signal was given to jump, Stars blurred into a single white background as the ship entered hyperspace. The first from its home system to do so.

Some five minutes after the Forerunner exited the system, the Marijetta joined it in travelling throught hyperspace. The delay was not because of a slowness of the computer, but to give the Forerunner a chance to get clear. Even with the five minute time difference, the Marijetta intended to come out some one lightsecond distance, as an additional caution as the scientists who's designed the engine were unsure of how much spatial drift there might be in even so short a jump.

The 200 meter Forerunner came out of hyperspace about ten minutes after leaving. The system they had left was now way behind. They were the furthest anyone from there planet had ever been, it was an eerie feeling, but one the crew would deal with. They would only be here for a week at most.

As per there plans the other ship did not leave until after the Forerunner and now the Forerunner moved away from the spot it exited hyperspace at. It had been a precaution to jump five minutes apart. No sense in wasting it by standing still. The Forerunner’s sensors reported back the first scan. There were two planets near by, and a star about 160 million klicks away. They moved about 500 klicks from there current location in order to wait for the Marijetta.

The Marijetta flickered into existance close, dangerously so, to the Forerunner than expected, at a distance of only some fifty thousand kilometers.

This is the Marijetta, reporting the trip was a success, and you?

I.S.S. Protector - Main Bridge

"Captain, reading two unidentified contacts dropping out of F.T.L. transit in system."

"Interesting. Well, you know this ship's primary mission."

"Yep, 'to explore new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations.' Pretty much the class motto."

"You could say that. Helm, bring us about and head towards those new contacts at Full Impulse*."

"Aye, sir."

Exterior

The curved form of the Protector banked as she moved from an orbit around the system's sun through its corona to a course towards the two ships.

The command deck of the Forerunner became a buzz with activity as the Marijetta came out of hyperspace closer then expected. Quickly all senor data was confirmed and backed up on portable storage devices. No one noticed the anomaly in the Corona detected by the sensors.

The Captain of the Forerunner opened up comms with the Marijetta, “Captain, we have identified two planets in this system, However if I remember correctly you have better sensors then we do. If you could make a quick scan of the area we could then start the survey.”

Acknowlaged, commencing scan. We should have the results in a few minutes.

The Marijetta's powerful sensors reached out to pick up the initial readings on the system.

Captain Glima looked over the results, and sent a message to the Forerunner.
Of the worlds, the one closer to the sun has the greater mass, with a smaller diameter. The farther world is rather close in appearent composition and atmosphere as your own planet. In addition we appear to have a greeting party coming in from sunward. We are arming our defensive systems in case they prove hostile.

“Acknowledged we are going to activate our defense system as well.”

When the message came over the comm. The sensor officer immediately turned his attention in system. It was two minutes until he found the ship coming there way. “Sir I found it.”

“Good, keep an eye on it.” Captain Teancum said.

Glima decided to take a bit of pre-emptive action and sent out a hail to the out-bound and unidentified vessel.

Greetings, this is the Captain Glima of the Marijetta. Requesting information on your nation, your vessel and your purpose.

I.S.S. Protector - Main Bridge

"Sir, we are receiving a transmission from one of the ships."

"Contents."

"The A.I. is working on translating it."

"Understood. In the meantime, stop us at one kilometer from them."

"Aye, sir."

"Send them the standard greeting in all known languages and codes."

"Including binary?"

"Yeah, go ahead and throw that in too."

"Aye, sir."

Messages

Transmitted in all known languages and codes, and binary, to the two ships:

This is the I.S.S. Protector of the SeaQuestian Empire. We are currently on a two year mission to study stars in this section of the galaxy and keep an eye out for any materials we need on any planet we encounter.

And what do you do if a planet that has minerals you are looking for is inhabited?

Glima sent the message out as the weapon systems began tracking the potentially hostile vessel. The systems wouldn't show up as the weapons weren't active.

Responding message:

Depending on the native's level of advancement, we either moniter them until they reach a point where contact with us won't give them an inferiority complex, usually when they develop some form of faster-than-light travel, or negotiate with them for the materials in question.

Glima opened a private channel to the Forerunner to keep them abreast of the situation as well as sending a message back to the Protector.

And what if they do not wish to negotiate or sell what you wish to you?

Then we leave our 'number' and depart. It is a vast universe with many planets. I don't know if you heard the saying, but 'there are plenty more fish in the sea.' Of course, that originally applied to dating situations when one got dumped, but it fits the situation nicely, don't you think?
