ooc: using the beautiful thing of RP time, this RP will go on at the same time as the "Operation Counterpunch" thread.

IC:
Barry French was bored out of his mind. System control at Avalon was one of the worst jobs besides border duty. But it had to be done, and it meant that he got to spend a lot of time planetside. And that meant girls and bars, very much so near the main military bases.

"HEY BARRY!" One of his fellow 'disciplin circuiters' called out to him across the hall. "You want to head to the bar tonight? Ladies' night."

"Sure Greg, when the shift's over."

"Shi-it, we could leave and it wouldn't change a thing.!"

"Meh, that timecard Nazi would catch us and chuck us back in here."

It was true, the C-O did tend to pop up at inopportune moments. He looked at the screen blankly, almost missing the incoming signature. "Hey Greg, got a shadow, looks like a cloaker."

"Vape it and get a medal. I'm bored."

Barry paused with his finger over the Strike button. "Meh, I'll just send some ships." He pressed another button, marked 'Scramble.'

"Well, my shift just went up, relief is coming. Let's go."

==========================================

In space above, several dozen craft of assorted sizes moved towards the phantom sensor reading. As they got closer, the phantom got slightly clearer, but it was obviously cloaked.

Unknown vessel, uncloak, power down all nonessential systems, and prepare for boarding. This is wartime, and your approach has drawn interest. This your last warning, uncloak and power down, REPEAT! Uncloak and power down.

Failure to comply will result in destruction. Stop now!

The ships charged every weapon onboard. If these fools did not comply, there would be little left.

Unknown vessel refuses to respond to hails. Open fire.

You have failed to comply. So be it, this is your own doing.

The ships and defense platforms around Avalon opened fire. They could not get a very effective fix, due to its cloaking system.

However, that didn't matter much. There were at least a hundred converging fields of fire concentrating on this single ship. Hits would definatly be scored, especially due to the continuous nature of No Endorse beam cannon. The ships closed in on their quarry, still firing at insane rates. Nothing would be able to escape such a malestrom of light.

One of the frigates sparked and went dead, its electrical system blown strait out. The hulk was caught by a nearby cruiser, however, and crew were transferred as rapidly as possible. The other frigate was lucky however, it survived the attack. It suffered enough damage to force it to retreat, and it limped away slowly.

Ships began to aim at the EPP weapon on the ship. They redoubled their assault, noting that the ship was going down. Already ground troops were being scrambled to check out this crash. Several drop ships were readied to go to the sight and combat whatever might come out of it.

There was a flurry of communications, but it was clear. This would be an incident of interest.

A ship was down, and the reaction time was swift. A dozen gunships hit the sky, flying over the area to secure the airspace. Military units were movilized as quickly a the local mountanious terrain allowed and began to move into position to quarentine the area.

Six Legionnaires were mobilized, the standard half-squad size for the No Endorse special operations wing. It was only a small crash, so it was assumed that not much would be needed. The men were loaded onto a dropship for insertion.

The dropship, a converted gunship, lifted off and began skimming to a site about three kilometers away from the crash. From there, they would foot it. The half-squad leader was constantly updated with realtime sattelite video of the site, and images from the overhead gunships. The hunt was on.

Kilometers passed quickly. Already the group had divided into two trios, hoping to converge on the target from two sides. This meant, however, that they would be taking a long walk. Finally, one of the trios reached a nearby peak, spotting the crash site. They rapidly set up camp for the night, intent on observing from this position.

The next day, the other trio would proceed down a small valley, then up and over to the crash site, hopefully staying hidden by the mountains' girth. However, they would camp at the head of the valley tonight. Everything would be done as carefully and officially as possible. Until then, the group leader grabbed his rifle, looking at the site through the scope.

"Hey, looks like there may be survivors... Four, get the chatterbox and hook me up with command."

"... and they've got some sort of funeral pyre going here. What are our orders?"

There was a hesitation on the other end of the small hyperwave transmitter, as the men on the other end debated. Finally a message came through.

"Will give orders soon. At present, hold camp and do whatever necessary to prevent detection and keep team alive. Command out."

"Copy. Red Rover, over and out." The group leader switched off the device microphone in disgust. "Bloody useful that lot was. They can't decide, so we get to cool our jets and watch them make a bonfire. Six! Can you make anything else out?"

"Too bright to really see much around that fire, but it looks like there's a priest of some sort... Wait... oh shit, they're armed. I see something now... a chainsword? I don't know really, too bright."

"Good work. Keep an eye, and wake Four when you get tired. I'll take first watch, you keep on that scope."

"Hey One! Fire's out."

"Good eyes Sam, they won't burn down the whole damn woods then. I'll tell the other team, you wake Four and get some sleep."

Six put down her rifle, shaking the sleeping marine. "Up now, your watch."

Four got up quickly, but almost not as fast as Six was asleep. As he got kitted up for watch, he accidently bumped a small camp light. The light, designed for signaling, shone out fiercely against the night, the enemy couldn't miss it. "Oh shit!"

It was quickly extinguished, but the damage was done. One called in the status to Team Two, ensuring that the other three were roused and ready. As he clicked off the radio, he brought his fist down sharply on the back of Four's head, knocking him out. "Ass, you've destroyed our element of surprise! Six, wake up. We're moving. Priority is to engage A-SAP. Orders be damned, I'm not waiting for them to come to us."

One quickly wrote down a note and put it in Four's hand. "He's going home for debriefing as soon as he wakes up, or his head is mine. Grab your rifle, we're going across the valley."

As the two left, Four began to stirr. He glanced at the note in his hand. It read:

You've messed up this one big-time, so here are your new orders: Head home and get debriefed. There will be a gunship waiting at EZ 2. Explain that we were sighted and that I've taken command.

And pray that I get killed out here. They don't give Chain-Swords to normal soldiers, we've got some serious prey here. You've screwed up big time.

The Legionnaires moved quickly and silently through the underbrush, ensuring that they left no followable trail and remained unseen. They crossed a valley at an angle away from the enemy crash site and got up on a high ridge, a location where they were almost completly hidden but able to see both their old camp and the crash site clearly.

"Get out your scope and take a good look Six. I'll set up the screens." Quickly and efficiently, One put up several small camoflaging screens that would absorb body heat, scent, and cover them from prying eyes.

"Now we wait. Wonder what they'll think when they see our camp? Did we leave anything important?"

"No sir. Four appears to have already packed out everything sensative. There is a pile of slag though... oh, that's the radio. He set off the thermite reaction inside it, must've melted clean through."

"Good. Keep a sharp eye, I'm taking a quick sleep."

"Roger."

"One, I see movement!"

The form didn't move a muscle, but was instantly alert. "Enemy forces?"

"Confirmed."

"Take one, preferably lead, leave the others. Don't let them get a fix."

"Roger." Six set down her spotter scope and lifted her high-powered rifle. Years of training and over a hundred confirmed kills focused in on her every nerve ending. Muscles twitched a little, then settled. "One for the money." She squinted through the scope, but hesitated. "Damn, they've got shiney armor." She pressed a button on the scope, and a glare reducer snapped in place. The crosshairs were now set on the head of one who appeared to be in charge She took a breath, let it out half way, and pulled the trigger.

There would be no sound from her position, no noise whatsoever. The target's head would just explode violently, most of the noise originating from the target. The beam had even been tuned to a frequency invisible to the naked eye. Six ducked under the screens again, pulling up her spotter scope to watch the results.

"Score." Six put another notch in her almost full stock. "Gonna need another one soon."

"Heh." One peered through his scope at the crash site. "Cut the chatter Six, they're retreating to their ship. Those sensors might still work, let's get this gear shielded." They worked rapidly, putting the signal absorbant covers over almost everything.

===================================================

Far off, Two, Three, and Five had watched the scene. "Six is as good a shot as ever. No way One made that, and Four's probably being debriefed right now."

"Range to crash site?"

"Far enough."

"Keep up recon and watch."

"Aye."

They would find nothing for a hundred kilometers south of their position, except for a highway about sixty kilometers away, running east-west. The highway lead right into one of Avalon's urban centers, and the small militia base for the county was there.

However, just to the north, they would detect the second team. Two, Three, and Five did not have their gear shielded, and they would stand out like a tank.

"Get out your rifles. We're going to the summit, its about five hundred meters to the East." They climbed up a low rocky outcropping, hiding in a small, natural hollow. Three was sent to make a small spotter position fifty yards to the west. He looked about, a clear view for quite a ways.

"Where are ya phantoms?" Three asked under his breath, checking the crash site again with his scope. "We'll end you today!"

Two and Five thought they heard a loud 'thump,' and began moving slowly to the rim of the small hollow. However, when they got there, Three was gone.

The figure groaned and rolled over, looking up at the large obsidion armor above him. "Ever heard of knocking? You barge in, use that damnable device, and then expect us to not be annoyed?"

=================================

The four remaining troops quickly mustered and prepared to storm the crash zone. They were geared up with enough material to put some infantry companies to shame. They hunkered down, waiting for the signal.

=================================

"Seriously, you're going to regret ever coming here. My life is nothing before the INFERNO!" He twisted a finger oddly, revealing a small, hypersharp cutter. He slit the back of one of the bindings, but still held it in place, hiding the knife back inside the false finger.

=================================

The two groups neared, hidden in small natural depressions. Complete radio silence. Almost time... the protocol was ready.

=================================

"Do you think that you can ever hope to even scratch the Inferno here? You are nothing but generic grunts!" The commando's face showed contempt almost beyond expression, his eyes burned like the sun above, sharp contrast to his dirty face. "Come on, you think you can hurt me with those pathetic suits? As the commander swung, the commando let his arm bindings hang free, ducking just under the massive hand. He felt the fist skip across the top of his head, stunning him for less than a second. However, he immediatly catapulted himself up the side of the suit, twisting the same finger to once again reveal the ultrasharp cutter, and began driving for the neck joint. "I SHALL END YOUR EXISTANCE!"

=================================

"NOW!" Fire opened up on the area from four angles. From the North with a single energy mortar round, the South and East with sniper supression fire, and the West with a blaster repeater. Everyone would fire a few shots and immediatly move to another firing position, making it seem like there were dozens of troops out there.

One and Six both noticed the commander swipe off Three's hand, and opened fire with ultra-high powered sniper rifles, aiming for the helmet and chest. However, just as they opened fire, another energy mortar round flew towards that location, lighting up the 'battlefield' brilliantly, splattering hunks of Three everywhere.

Two re-aimed the energy mortar, trying to land one right at the mouth of the ship's door, and let loose again. Five maneuvered towards Two's position, using his repeater to keep anything's head down that might pop up.

"You doing aight?" he asked breathlessly, switching for a fresh charge.

"Aye, but I can't seem to aim it right."

"Oh well.. FRAG OUT!" Two hurled a grenade towards the crash, aiming for the door. It bounced off the frame and exploded harmlessly outside. "I can't help you there it seems... I'll keep others heads down, you watch the door and sight in good."

"Gotcha!" Two left Five to the mortar, watching him get far too much pleasure from the large explosions.

Two watched the enemy troop run towards him. Cute, but foolish... He fired off a mortar round right at the enemy's feet, hoping to hurl him backwards. As he did so, he immediatly sprinted to the East, leaving the mortar and multiple rounds on the ground. He pulled out a pistol, bringing it to bear on the charging form.

Already One had begun to swing his sniper around, pressing the trigger. The ultra-tight beam of energy shot forth, tracing a line on the ground as it moved to meet this rampaging enemy. The other two troops, however, continued to watch for the remaining two Sephrions. They would be hunted down and killed if possible.
