The Spring of Nations - 19th Century Earth

It is the Spring of Nations. The age old ideals of Mercantilism have been proved false, and the barriers of trade are begining to be knocked down. The order established at Vienna in 1815 holds on, but barely. Unrest simmers in many areas, due to poor conditions and economic down-turns. The absolutist rule of Matternicht in the Hapsburg Empire fuels only revolt in the region, while Guizot's phrase, "Get rich, then you can vote." only causes anger the Kingdom of France, where Louis-Philippe sits upon a shaky throne. Else where, conditions are little better. Germany and Italy are "Geographical Terms" only, and in Ireland, the masses starve due to the government's Corn Laws. Russia, once the strongest power of Europe, is slowly going backwards, its wars with the sick Turks only furthering the extent.

Pax Brittanica is at an all time high. The first age of Imperialism has come to an end, and colonies have become an item held for prestige, not for profit, as shown by the French in Algeria and the British in India. Wearily China attempts to starve off the Europeans at all sides, although her defeat in 1842 has only further weakened her. The rest of Asia clings to tradition and feudalism, closing their borders to outside influence. Will the old ways be able to survive the coming storm, or will the powers of Europe open the doors to this mysterious land?

In America, isolation continues with the United States. The war with Mexico has proved victorious, and so much land has been conquered, "Manifest Destiny" completed. The rest of America continues it's own ways, although somewhat unstable under dictators and corrupt legislative governments.

--

For long I have looked around, for suitable earths. But they all seem centered in one period. Either the 1900s, or 1700s. But what of the 1800s? So much happened! Industrialism boomed, and Pax Brittanica occured, the unification of nation-states happened rapidly. The old order was forever changed, to finally be killed in the Trenches, in 1918. The Spring of Nations is an Earth that begins in 1848, on the eve of the "1848 Revolutions". Why was this year chosen? Because it is the best year for any nation. True, the revolution only engulfs Europe, but it can stun any nation into reforming, and perhaps shaking off ill effects.

The Spring of Nations, is an Earth that I hope will succeed. I wish that many can join so that it can succeed. Many nations are open, but it is not just about being a "large" or "powerful" nation. It's about RPing. It's about exploring this world and having as much fun as possible. Wars will happen of course, but it's just a game. You should have fun, even when losing.

If you are truely interested in joining this RP, the forum link is right here (http://s11.invisionfree.com/Spring_of_Nations/index.php?).

OOC: Just so you know I had dibs on Qing China, look at the board

-As the American Industrialist Strolled through the Forbidden Palace with the Emperor, He Earned many surprised Glances from his Heignesses servants. The Emperor was talking about his Company setting up a major Factories in Beiging, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
-"You Realize of course Mr. Hurly that this will induce great benefits unto my people"
-"Yes" Hurly Replied, "Wonders to their condition, and Wonders to my pockets..."
-"The Emperor ignored the slightly rude comment, and continued discussion.
-"There is still the matter of reward for your part in the Industrialization; It will be handsome, I guess?"
-"I hope so... These Factories would be worth the expense though..."
-"Yes, so how about 1 Million of your American Dollars?"
-"Oh yes... That would be sufficient."
-"So we can expect the Plants to begin construction in less than a month"
-"Of course, Emperor"
-"Then our meeting is closed, you are dismissed, and I will send you your reward upon the beginning of construction"

-The American than left the Room and got into an Waiting Motorcar. At his Hotel, he slept well that night, with visions of Riches and Power.

The Emperor Did not sleep at all.

He was assassinated Minutes after the meeting.

I'd be incredibly tempted to join; however, I'm already involved in three other rps (one political, one military, and one AH rp running from 1930-2006) and don't really think I have time to do so. Good luck with the rp; don't forget about the Sepoy Rebellion (1857-1858), Commodore Perry and Japan (1853-1854), and the colonization of Africa - to which you need to add Ethiopia, Liberia, the Sudan, Kongo, and the Boer states, among other events.

“Famous thrones upheld in wisdom have collapsed, and people have regained their liberty. A noxious mist envelopes us, and from the crypt of the Vienna government blows a wind that destroys our nerves and depresses our souls. The dynasty must choose between its own welfare and the maintenance of a rotten government. Bureaucracies and bayonets are miserable ties, and he will be the saviour of the House of Habsburg who will reform the system of government in a constitutional direction and found the throne of his august house on the liberty of his faithful people.”
