This is the main page for the International Olympic Commitee for the E20 Alternate History Thread...

Offices: Lausanne, Switzerland (main office)

IOC General Secretary: Wilhelm Roemler (Germany)
FIFA General Secretary: Nicholas Minuette (Netherlands)

Next Olympic Games: 1972- Cortina d' Ampezzo, Italy (winter) and Mexico City, Central America (summer). 1976- Calgary, AB, North America (Winter) and Naples, Italy (Summer). Bidding for the 1980 Olympics has begun...

Next FIFA World Cup: France (1974). World Cup Bidding for 1978 is underway.

Any nation can join the IOC without any reservation as long as they are willing to gather in peaceful competition on the athletic field and so on...

The basic rules apply the same way as the real IOC would be arranged, but simpler to understand.

OOC Notes:

I have had to adjust the historical table to allow for the countries that didn't compete historically (Japan and Germany) to be included and have merged Denmark, Norway and Sweden into the SU. Russia apparently didn’t do well at this Olympics. The hosts, Britain didn't actually feature on the top ten list (the first time for a host country ever) but they sneaked on with some of the mega-nations meaning that smaller countries no longer exist.

The USA is, as always, the dominant force at the Olympics but this year the main competition came in the form of the SU whose status as a mega-nation gave them some medals.

The event was officially opened by HM King George VI.

OOC: Brazil will host the World Cup for 1954. The FIFA World Cup would fall every 4 years...(1958, 1962, 1966 and so on).
The Olympics would be in 4 year pattern too, but the years are different...(1960, 1964, 1968 and so on).
Note: I only listed those countries who scored 10 or more medals in Marseille.
Shooting started in the modern Summer Olympics back in 1896 (all Olympic Summer Games from 1896 to now had shooting events excluding 1928...)

India and Pakistan are pretty much the two best teams in cricket, pretty much because A) they like it alot and B) both countries have been training to be better than the other through cricket. Bangladesh isn't that bad, either. A united India team would be unstopable.

What perplexes me deeply is that China didn't get any medals either, you would think with their massive population and the amount of their athletes that would go to the Olympics would Russia and USA, they would at least get something....

Anyway.....

IC: While the Duma debated Russia's attendance at the Oslo games, the head of Russia's Olympic Commission made a statement. The commissioner, Vsevolod Bobrov, was the 3rd higest scorer in the 1956 Olympic games. In his statement he declared

Unless otherwise ordered by the Duma, Russia's Olympic Committee will not attend the 1964 Olympic games, nor any later Olympiads taking place in the Scandic Union or its allies (the CSPS).

The Games were founded in the spirit of international cooperation. However, with the host being a nation that actively defies the UN in its occupation of Karelia and St. Petersburg, this is undermined. We will not attend any games in the occupying nation, nor those that endorse it, until the situation is remedied, and we would call upon the lawful, cooperative nations of the world to follow suit.

The Duma has the ability to overrule this declaration, but chances are not likely (ooc: they're likely glad they didn't have to do it).

The IOC has decided to give the Winter Olympic Games for 1964 to St. Moritz as a neutral site due to the conditions of the World (and to try to stop a Russian boycott)...

The Scandic Union will boycott the St Moritz games and recommends its allies in the CSPS to follow suit(8 more nations). The SU will not be cheated out of its oppurtunity to host games by a nation that has been kidnapping, torturing, and murdering en mass millions in both the Caucases and Siberia. A nation that started a nuclear war and held Stockholm hostage with 10,000 missiles threatening to kill millions of Scandic citizens. Further, the SU and CSPS will look extremely unkindly on any biased decisions in the future about Olympic hosting.(I.E., SU and CSPS cities not being picked as to avoid Russian boycott) If such things are suspected then the SU and CSPS will boycott those Olympic games as well.

The Former General Secretary of the IOC Avery Brundage has resigned due to the 1964 Winter Olympic Scandal and the IOC would ask the Russians and the Scandics not to commit "national suicide" by plunging the IOC into a messy war-like situation...

The members of the Location Board felt that a neutral site would be necessary to insure that everyone had an equal opportunity to compete peacefully which unfortunately Oslo due to unforseen events did not qualify as a proper site. The IOC has made its share of misguided decisions in this matter and wish that the situation can be solved immediately and with due care...

Moving the games away from Oslo is essentially stealing them from the Scandic Union when we have been looking forward and preparing for these games for years. We can not and will not just stand by and le such a thing happen. If the games are stolen from us we will not attend them, nor will the other 8 nations that comprise the CSPS.
